Well this is absolutely doing my head in.
Okay. I have 2 phones, 2 different sim Cards.
Phone 1: HTC one m8, on Three
phone 2: HTC desire eye, on BT mobile.
The BT mobile sim won't work in the HTC Desire eye. It will not detecT it.
It works in the HTC one m8 fine with no issue, i can hot swap it in all day long.
Here's the puzzle - the Three sim WORKS in the HTC desire eye. I tried it with another foreign sim card and THAT works fine too!
SO it's not the case that the Desire is not unlocked or something - as it detects and works immediately with 2 random networks.
But for some bizarre reason, it will not detect the BT mobile sim! What the HELL is going on? This is the most annoying thing ever. :crying::crying:
WEll it turns out that for whatever reason, the BT sim card must be about 0.05mm too thin, and the desire eye must be hyper sensitive to it.
I put a piece of paper folded, put that in the simcard tray first, before placing the sim in, then inserted - and its fine.
THat piece of paper is pushing the simcard against the contacts, i assume.
It's now not dropping out or losing connection.
Still its strange as to why have to do that - as in the one m8 it worked fine.
Different sim tray designs?

Just wanted to know if anyone knows how android would handle a dual sim setup on the desire and if any adapters have been tested by anyone here?

I can't believe they stopped allowing two numbers on one sim..... my orange nokia phone back in 1991 had the possibility for two numbers on one sim... was brilliant for one for work and one for personal all through the same phone....
Takes 20 years to bring it back - LOL!

haha didnt even know they had mobile back in 91
how do dual sim cards work?
It is hard to get much info on dual sim cards from googling. Anyone know if you can use both cards where they switch automatically and you receive calls from either phone number. Can you use the data service from one card while being open to receiving calls on the other card. Or do you manually switch between the cards without having to physically change cards.
Tmobile android is great in most of PDX but useless in some of the outlying burbs. It would help to have prepaid att as a backup number
From prior experience you had to reboot the phone to change SIM card
There are some here but they list them as being untested with the Desire yet.

They do have a video on there if you dig around showing it in use in a Hero and seems pretty good. No need to reboot phone.

Using these dual sim thingies can I receive a call on either line and pickup or will I only be able to pickup the active line?

You cannot use two sim cards simultaneously on the Desire. It has to be only one and to switch by rebooting the phone, because Desire has only one active GSM radio. The phones that operate two sim cards simultaneously have two GSM radios which operate independently from each other.
Has anyone else had a recurring issue where the One V won't recognise their SIM card until they restart it a few times? I'm not sure if it's a ROM problem or if I should get a replacement unit.
Any way to debug and pin it down to software or hardware?
Solved my problem. If anyone experiences this, your SIM is a bit old. I went to my provider and got a new 128k SIM. It looks very different to my old one and works every time with the One V.
Just seems the phone isn't as compatible with older SIMs.
Yeah this happened to me too.
Got an error message too that the sim was not recognized and the phone had to be rebooted.
Just started working on its own after a few days...
We have that issue with all our One V at my store. All we do is a reboot and it will read the sim.
Had that with my past 4 pieces of one V (all returned to shop) because of this issue. I've replaced my old (~3 years sim) with a new one from 2012 but apparently, Orange doesn't know what 128k sim is xD. So I was forced to drop my 5th model and get my money back. Oddly is that my first One V (that had factory problems - light leakage, sensor problems) had no problem with my old sim card.
Got a weird problem with a HTC Desire HD that I sold on Ebay, it was running Gingerbread fine, and T-Mobile/Virgin/GiffGaff in UK, so sold it as unlocked, bidder wins auction, tested working with GiffGaff ok at collection time, buyer contacts me later, saying it does not recognise Vodafone or 3 SIM, He did try and install a micro SIM card, but says it was working after that was taken out with a T-Mobile SIM, brings the phone back to me saying that only T-Mobile work, I try it and nothing works just says "no sim card in phone" no SIM at all works, reset to factory default on bootloader. The IMEI is the same, and is the same phone, would flashing gingerbread back in cure the problem, or could the SIM card reader be damaged?, the SIMS are ok, as work fine in my other phones, any thoughts????
Make sure that that the back cover is well set. Take into consideration that not all Sim cards work with unlocked phones. Some Sims are carrier locked and you need to get a new one from the carrier to work

Fixed!!
It seems that the SIM card holder has enlarged slightly, as a sliver of paper enables better contact and all of the SIMS work fine now

Hi,
Can you tell me how you did this exactly (pictures or an explanation or so)? I'm having an issue with a desire hd that dropped in a pond. *everything* is working fine, gps, compass, sensors, wifi, bluetooth, screen (touch sensitivity et al), lights, camera not blurred or so, no diminished battery life or whatever... but the devicesays SIM card not detected.
It would surprise me that everything (as in all radios, etc) but the 'phone' stuff would be working...
Maybe this is also caused by something like you have faced.
Kind regards,
sstm
Hey, I have my One v for about half a year now, and it worked perfectly with one sim, few weeks ago I changed to a different service provider, and the sim worked fine too.
Few days ago, I look at my phone and the bars just start to disappear, until it got to a state where I couldn't receive calls, SMS, surf the 3g web and so on. This morning (and yesterday's evening) I had bars fro few minutes, then it simply showed the name of the provider in the notification area, now there's just "no service". I tried swapping Sim's with my sister, which has the same phone - my sim worked on her phone, her sim didn't work on mine.
So my lucky guess is that the sim slot is dead, I wanted to know if there's any solution I should try before sending it to a store to find out wat is happen, or I should just do that and forget about it. Also, if the sim slot if dead, how much will it cost approximately to fix it?
Slot may not connect - maybe it's time to use "toilet paper solution" (as originally named for Nokia N900)? You should make piece of paper the same size as sim card and insert it with SIM card to slot to hold it with connectors and disallow separation. If not working experiment with paper with other thickness or size. Try this one and say about any changes.
And try with prepaid / old card
it may seem obvious, but have you already tried cleaning the sim slot by blowing all the dust out of it? that used to fix this sort of problems in my dumbphone.
Which nmforu
I owe my life to trees everywhere. Thank you dskowronski! it worked! tried doing what you told me, second time it worked - then I tried without the paper and voila!
I bought a One X locked to the Orange network and purchased an unlock code for it. I put my T-Mobile SIM in and entered the code and it worked fine. A signal appeared. I tried to dial and the call failed, tried to send an SMS and it failed. Internet worked fine once the APN settings were entered.
My initial response was that the phone MUST be blocked; however I paid for a CheckMend report and the phone is NOT blocked.
I tried my girlfriend's SIM on the Three network and it worked fine - no problem making calls or sending texts.
The only difference is that hers is on a different network and is a micro SIM, whereas mine is a genuine T-Mobile nano SIM in an adaptor that I got from an O2 SIM pack. Truth be told, it isn't the best fit in the world but it has worked in every single other phone I've used over the past few months.
I also tried my T-Mobile data SIM (which is also NANO) and that also wouldn't let me make any calls or send a text.
Another strange thing is that it won't let me switch to T-Mobile-Orange in network settings. It says the SIM won't allow it, yet I'm able to do it with any other phone.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks in advance.

I'm currently using a Three nano sim (From iphone 5) in my one x. Been working fine for me for the last couple of months. Mine was also locked to Orange before purchasing an unlock code.
Also using a nano sim from iphone5 in my HOX now, working perfectly
Hmm I wonder what it could be then. Are either of you on T-Mobile? I wonder if perhaps the pins are a lot smaller onT-Mobile SIMs and something just doesn't quite line up right. As I said, it works fine with my girlfriend's micro SIM on Three.
Odp: Does the One X dislike Nano SIMs?
I'm on t-mobile, but using micro SIM, so just to make you sure, it's not a carrier issue.

POLSKAAAAAA BIAAAALOOOO CZEEEERWONIIIII!!!!!!!!!
Got my SIM swapped by T-Mobile for a micro SIM and it still didn't work so it must have been a faulty SIM slot. I've received a refund. Weird how it worked with a Three SIM though. Must be a broken or misaligned pin in the SIM slot that somehow wasn't affected with certain SIM cards.
