I bought a One X locked to the Orange network and purchased an unlock code for it. I put my T-Mobile SIM in and entered the code and it worked fine. A signal appeared. I tried to dial and the call failed, tried to send an SMS and it failed. Internet worked fine once the APN settings were entered.
My initial response was that the phone MUST be blocked; however I paid for a CheckMend report and the phone is NOT blocked.
I tried my girlfriend's SIM on the Three network and it worked fine - no problem making calls or sending texts.
The only difference is that hers is on a different network and is a micro SIM, whereas mine is a genuine T-Mobile nano SIM in an adaptor that I got from an O2 SIM pack. Truth be told, it isn't the best fit in the world but it has worked in every single other phone I've used over the past few months.
I also tried my T-Mobile data SIM (which is also NANO) and that also wouldn't let me make any calls or send a text.
Another strange thing is that it won't let me switch to T-Mobile-Orange in network settings. It says the SIM won't allow it, yet I'm able to do it with any other phone.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks in advance.

I'm currently using a Three nano sim (From iphone 5) in my one x. Been working fine for me for the last couple of months. Mine was also locked to Orange before purchasing an unlock code.
Also using a nano sim from iphone5 in my HOX now, working perfectly
Hmm I wonder what it could be then. Are either of you on T-Mobile? I wonder if perhaps the pins are a lot smaller onT-Mobile SIMs and something just doesn't quite line up right. As I said, it works fine with my girlfriend's micro SIM on Three.
Odp: Does the One X dislike Nano SIMs?
I'm on t-mobile, but using micro SIM, so just to make you sure, it's not a carrier issue.
Sent from my HTC One X.
POLSKAAAAAA BIAAAALOOOO CZEEEERWONIIIII!!!!!!!!!
Got my SIM swapped by T-Mobile for a micro SIM and it still didn't work so it must have been a faulty SIM slot. I've received a refund. Weird how it worked with a Three SIM though. Must be a broken or misaligned pin in the SIM slot that somehow wasn't affected with certain SIM cards.

Hey, I have my One v for about half a year now, and it worked perfectly with one sim, few weeks ago I changed to a different service provider, and the sim worked fine too.
Few days ago, I look at my phone and the bars just start to disappear, until it got to a state where I couldn't receive calls, SMS, surf the 3g web and so on. This morning (and yesterday's evening) I had bars fro few minutes, then it simply showed the name of the provider in the notification area, now there's just "no service". I tried swapping Sim's with my sister, which has the same phone - my sim worked on her phone, her sim didn't work on mine.
So my lucky guess is that the sim slot is dead, I wanted to know if there's any solution I should try before sending it to a store to find out wat is happen, or I should just do that and forget about it. Also, if the sim slot if dead, how much will it cost approximately to fix it?
Slot may not connect - maybe it's time to use "toilet paper solution" (as originally named for Nokia N900)? You should make piece of paper the same size as sim card and insert it with SIM card to slot to hold it with connectors and disallow separation. If not working experiment with paper with other thickness or size. Try this one and say about any changes.
And try with prepaid / old card
it may seem obvious, but have you already tried cleaning the sim slot by blowing all the dust out of it? that used to fix this sort of problems in my dumbphone.
Which nmforu
I owe my life to trees everywhere. Thank you dskowronski! it worked! tried doing what you told me, second time it worked - then I tried without the paper and voila!
Hello people,
I just bought a LG G3 855 phone, from a person who bought it sim free from carphone warehouse. It works with all other sim cards including virgin, tesco, and lyca but will not work with my 3 sim.
What can I do?
This is a UK phone LG G3 855 model, works with other sim cards but will not recognise 3 sim card, it says insert sim the signal has a cross and a sim card symbol is displayed with a cross signifying no sim car in the phone although it is definitely in there and the sim works in other phones perfectly. even tried a new 3 sim card only to experience the same.

I have a D855 which I bought at Carphone Warehouse and the SIM works fine with Three (though the f'ing voicemail notification never goes away). I do remember they sent a bunch of SMS's when I first joined to automatically configure my phone to work on their network, though I suspect this was for the data rather than voice.
In any event, I'd change the apn settings manually and maybe you'll have some luck. Google the settings for 3, I wasn't allowed to include a link in my post as I'm a new member.

Thank you very much
I will try to get three APN settings
I'm on Verizon, my SIM was a microSIM originally, it came with my Galaxy S3. I cut it down with a SIM cutter a while back to use it with a Moto X (original version), it worked fine for a long time in that phone. I just moved it over to my N5X this morning, and a few hours later the phone has twice told me that no SIM is installed. I had to remove the SIM tray and re-insert it to make it work. Anyone else having this problem?
I cut my microSIM myself freehand and haven't had any issues with it at all. Is it possible that your SIM is dirty/corroded or something? I'd be surprised if the slot on the phone was having issues already.

I actually polished the contacts a bit before putting it in the 5X. It gave me a No SIM error twice in about 3 hours, but hasn't done it in the last 6 hours or so, we'll see if it comes back. I know MicroSIMs are a little thicker than NanoSIMs, I wonder if the extra thickness caused/causes it. If it comes back maybe I'll try sanding the SIM down a bit.

I have been having this happen a couple time a week. I'm in the exact same situation being on Verizon, coming from a Galaxy S3, and I cut my micro SIM down to a nano. Did you sand your cut SIM down or get a new one? If so, did this fix the issue?

I'm still using the same SIM, the problem hasn't recurred so I haven't done anything about it. If it happens again, I plan to sand the SIM down.
Are you talking about a pop-up error, or just it saying "no sim" in the upper right hand side of the screen? I have it take a little bit to recognize after some reboots, but it always recognizes it after 5-10 seconds. I have a brand new sim from t-mobile that I have been using, so it would not be related to a cut sim or anything like that.

Yes!
I had a microSIM cut down and got the issue. Went and got a new nanoSIM still having the issue.
Annoying.

This happened to me again, so I finally just asked Verizon for a new nanoSIM and now it's been a week or so with no problems.
I to am on Verizon. And had my sim cut since I am coming from the g4. And have it pop up saying no sim twice. And I removed the sim and reinstalled it and rebooted the device and usually works. But i hope its just something that will work itself out
Yes it's been doing this for a week since I've had my Nexus 5X, I just had to reboot it to have the sim recognized again. And this morning it says "no sim card" no matter what I do. If i remove the sim and plug it back in, sometimes it will work and last for a minute and then again "no sim card". I'm really pissed. I'll try the sim in another phone to see whether or not the problem comes from there.
So question for Verizon ownwers. I got a nano sim card but need to activate it. Can I activate it with a Verizon phone even if it uses a micro sim? Only ask because I came from the g4 and I cut it but I'm trying to get this nano activated to try and eliminate the no sim.

I just called customer service to activate the sim card and then popped it into my phone. They didn't give me any trouble.
They don't need to activate the sim card to a phone or need an imei?

I called Customer Service and got them to send me one by telling them that I was going to by a Verizon HTC One M9 from a friend. Then when I got the SIM, I just called them again and they activated it for me no problem. I don't remember them asking me for which phone again.
I have seen in other threads on here where people have said that Verizon will activate the SIM card in store even if you tell them its for the Nexus 5X; so, activating over phone or in store should be no problem.
I've been using the fire as a secondary phone with a payg sim. My other phone is now broke so I've got a contract sim in the fire. It's constantly saying no sim or searching. It'll pop up as if it has a signal and display lte or 3g for a while but quickly revert to no signal. I've restarted, reinserted many times. Don't really want to factory reset. Can't remember if previous sim had same error as I didn't use it enough back then. Don't suppose Amazon have stocks to replace if it turns out to be hardware issue. Anybody else had similar issues?

I've found the sim slot is very unforgiving to cut sim cards. I had a micro sim that I trimmed to nano. While it worked fine in other phones, it gave me nothing but grief in my fire phone. I eventually gave in and bought a proper nano sim and haven't had any trouble since.
Try a sim from a friend to be sure it is the phone and not the sim card.
Always power the phone down before installing a new sim, because it needs to setup the provider settings.
The sim is nano not cut down. Yeah, I'll try another sim before getting onto Amazon.
Thanks.
Hello,
I was wondering if I would be able to use a data-only sim card from T-Mobile in my 2nd SIM slot on my OP3. I have not received the phone yet but I was curious as to whether or not T-Mobile will recognize the device as a phone and not tablet. If anyone's done this before, please let me know.
The SIM card is coming from my Galaxy Tab A LTE and is activated.
Of course you can, it's like a super known use of dual-sim.. At least where I am from, Germany, data-sims are relatively cheap, compared to "full" sims (and if you go for like 6gb+ a month, you will only find like 50-60€ flats with sms+phone flat which I don't need).
I myself have got a 6GB Vodafone Data Card (says for tablet as well, xd) for 10€/month and a prepaid sim with 9ct/sms or 9ct/minute (I almost never call people, but when something important is up, I still am fully available with that card) on the t-mobile network.
edit: but I think there was something with 4g only being available on SIM1 ?? Well I use my data-sim in simslot1 and my phone-sim in simslot 2 and that way, it definitely works fine.
Should work.
One caveat from experience. Some time ago I bought a prepaid data SIM from Vodafone in Portugal. On the box it said only for tablet/mifi/pc or something like that. The vendor warned me also. I thought, bullsht, why would it make a difference, just going to pop it into my phone.
Long story short: it didn't work in my phone, until I manually changed the apn.
It would automatically set the apn reserved for data-only devices, and then it would apparently figure out I was using a phone and not allow me to log on. Once I changed the apn to the one reserved for phones, all was ok. Had to look up the apn online.
