Is it possible to replace the motherboard from a different model - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently my G4 h815 was water damage. Is it possible to replace the motherboard with a different version such as a G4 from AT&T or something like that?
Basically will the motherboard of a H810 or HXXX will work properly on a H815?

i think so, in the G2 if its the same we see refurbished phones that says its a d802 with imei, then after they update frimware and notice funny things . then after reading mother board the phone is a d800/ls980 so he must use those firmwares as thats hes variant.. not d802, so swapping MB's may work.

I dropped my H811 and the display no longer works. I have AirDroid installed, so I can remote access the phone. I did a TiBu backup so not all is lost. I have an ATT variant (H810) and I am wondering if I can swap main boards with that.

I think you would easily be able to swap screen s between models

I can confirm that the MoBo from an H811 will work in an H810. My H811 had already been acting up (doubletap to wake wasn't working, display would occasionally come on very very dim, display occasionally didn't come on - would take 4 or 5 power button presses to wake it). I had an extra H810 and put my H811 MoBo in it and it works! Doubletap to wake works again too!

Which way to follow

I bought a LG Optimus G phone. The software reads as F180L. But on the back side of the phone model is written as :LG-LS970 (which is i guess sprint). I am not understanding which forum I should follow to use custom ROMS and rooting. This one or of LG optimus G sprint?

Looks like someone flashed an F180 ROM on your LS970 phone (unless the back cover was changed at some point, but the possibility of that is way less, IMO)... While it might work just fine, I would still suggest referring to a Sprint forum for proper info. Flashing another model's ROM on you phone doesn't mean it becomes that model; it's the hardware that dictates requirements and limitations of what you can and can't do... Just for the heck of it, try looking up your IMEI at imei.info -- it should give you the correct model of you phone (but still, sometimes it's not quite accurate).

imei.info shows F180. It means back cover was changed.

Well... I though of that as a possibility, but frankly, I am surprised. In that case, looks like you are in the right place.

OK, the most foolproof way, IMO, would be to check if your phone has a telescopic TV antenna at the top left -- only Korean models have it. Entertaining a crazy idea that someone may have put an LS970 cover on F180 and removed an antenna, or cut a plastic tip off of it (because LS970 cover just doesn't have a cutout for it), there will still be a channel for the antenna at the top left side of the phone under the back cover (you'll have to take it off to confirm).
In my experience, imei.info is usually pretty accurate within a model line -- for example, it showed LG G2 D803 as D800, which is reasonable. But I just checked a IMEI I know for E975, and it was listed as "LG Optimus G", without specific model. My phone is identified as "Swift F180", which is correct. Well... I dunno...

There is no antenna.
I just flashed E975 kdz on it and it works.
At imei.info I put IMEI of my LG-F350L (G pro 2) and it gave me a very model phone of LG. K200. :s

BTW on xda LG original software download tool I put model as F180 and serial number as IMEI. It gave me F180L30c_00.kdz.

Swap motherboards?

I have a D850 with a cracked screen, if I bought a different make of the LG G3 would my motherboard fit in it?
Also is the "ESN" on my motherboard? Could I buy a phone with a bad ESN and put in my motherboard (with a clean ESN) and be good to go?
Thanks in advance
Yes, you will be good to go if you bought a phone with a bad ESN and swapped it with your motherboard. As far as a different model of G3, I'm not sure. I would say stick with the T-Mobile version. I know on the Galaxy S3, the Verizon version is different than the AT&T version as far as the frame goes. The LCD and screens are the same. Good luck.

LG G3 imei says g2 ??

I recently got a LG G3 I believe that is what it is I read that you can not remove the battery from G2 and I can from mine. anyway when I run my imei it comes up as a G2. Only thing I can think of is that the imei has been altered somehow any other ideals on why it comes up as G2. besides it coming up as G2 when imei is ran all comes up clean, but AT&T it says IMEI is not recognized in AT&T. which when booting I see at&t. I was told it is unlocked verizon says Clean (GSM or Activated by other User).
The korean version of the g2 has a removable battery and sd card can post a pic of your phone
Here is photos I have of my phone last one shows model from settings (not sure how to get them to show in post if bbccode will work or not)

This looks to be lg g3 100%.but the imei CAN be changed and looks like its been done to your device and the imei used looks like is from lg g2 but dont worry i dont thing you will have problems with it.
I believe the imei is changed just wanted to see what others thought. I need to put new back camera in it front works but wanted to double check what I was thinking on the imei. I was also wondering unrelated to this, someone told me all 4glte are unlocked is that true?
Is there a way I can get it back to a G3 IMEI? and why would someone change it?

LG G4 buying: how and what variant

Hi guys,
I'm interested to G4 even if it's no longer the top of market.
However I have some question before consider to buy it
1) The 505 hw revision is suffering bootloop: when Ill receive device, where can I check for the hw revision (in what body part)?
Sending me a photo would be easier.
2) What pro and cons of bootloader unlocking?
Is it needed for modding?
3) Having the dual SIM variant (H818P) would be obviously better.
But... is the second SIM slot separated from microSD one? Or it replace microSD like happens in many asiatic devices?
Then... CM-based roms and kernels developed for H815 will be compatible with H818P too?

1. even new 6xx suffer from it. in a lower sacel though.. you better of getting a unlockable phone close to your country.. like if you in EU dont get h811 USA phone.. if bootloop youll have to snet it to USA.. so get a phone that is unlockable and clsoe to your country... and before you buy ask for the first 2 digits of serial numer.. once you know the serial number and feel confident then buy it... i wouldnt buy it if it isnt from 601 and up... dont get lower then that.. you can find it in box or remove battery and youll see serial number..
2..pros runs way better cons... unlocking will void warranty
3. no dual sim phone can be bootloader unlocked...
no i think h818P cant be unlocked .. do a search and type lg g4 list of bootloader unlock phones.. seee wich ones can be unlocked..
I had this phone for almost a year now, had the lg g2 before, loved it, but the G4 is a piece of ****, the first Android phone I had that I really hate. Don't buy one
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Stay away from G4. And (a part from Nexus devices) stay away from LG.

Can I use motherboard of any other LG G3(D855) to solve the BSOD Issue

Hi All,
I am getting blue screen issue on my LG G3 from last few days.
While researching on XDA,I came to know that issue will be temporarily fix by baking G3's motherboard in oven .
But this fix lasts for 2-3 weeks for most of user.I will try to use this fix to recover the data and use the phone for 1-2 week.
Is there any permanent solution for this?
Also,Is it possible if I can replace this motherboard with other LG G3 motherboard( of broken or not functioning screen),as It will be cheap solution.
Any specific procedure or things to remember for this?
Note - As BSOD issue affects most of the LG G3s,replacing the motherboard with other old one might not be the final solution.
Thanks for all the help.Always.
Regards,
Guru
Yes
I had the same problem
I had a 16 GB d855 and replaced the motherboard with a 32gb d855 one
There wouldn't be any problem with using a different model motherboard, except for the bands (e.g: a Korean board might not have the 4g bands that Sprint uses, and so wouldn't be able to connect to them)
There are some pages that check the compatibility of phones and carriers
Search for frequency checker

Thanks Mate!!
I will mostly get motherboard of same model.
I just need to replace motherboard, right?
Is there any software changes I need to do?
Thanks
You should try reflowing the emmc chip before buying the new motherboard.
Done that today...Working fine now...Let's see how many days it survives.
Thanks,
Guru
Great haha. In caase it returns, do it again but now with pressure on both emmc and ram chips (use some pliers or whatever, be creative )
i did the reflowing thing too and it's only a temporary fix
phone stops working after 1-4 weeks
you can reflow it again, but after a couple times it doesn't work anymore
