HTC 10 compatible VR Headset... - HTC 10 Accessories

Had a play with a Samsung Gear VR recently and it was fun with definite potential for the casual user so I was looking to see if something similar (and similarly priced!) might be in the pipeline and compatible with our HTC 10 handsets... (ignoring the Vive of course as that is in a different league!)
Research reveals Google are hopefully working on something for universal android handset use http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...-headset-that-isn-t-made-of-cardboard-1314517 so thought I'd start this thread to discuss people's views on the HTC 10 + VR headset possibilities... [emoji41]

If you want any real VR usage get a Gear VR + Samsung phone. As of right now the only stuff that works with the HTC 10 would be Google Cardboard, which isn't particularly impressive in the same way the dedicated headsets and Gear VR are.

sure you're right. but my point was that it looks like Google will be releasing something similar this year to the Gear which will most likely work with the HTC...
So, as and when we hear more we can update the thread.
Id also be interested once people get their phones to see which google cardboard kits and apps work best...

I am getting the Fiit VR 2N, it will use Cardboard app but the FOV is better, some says it's even better than GearVR
The BoboVR Z4 is the top notch in the budget VR,slightly better than Fiit VR with a FOV of 110 instead of 102 but it's the double in price

Most apps and games don't need a button, you can choose with your head, though you can buy a BT controller for VR for less than 10$ for games that need it, or your xbox360, PS3/4 gamepad
Edit: Just tried my Microsoft wireless mouse on the A9 using OTG and it's working even better than a gamepad, no need for special app or driver it's automatically detected by the phone, BTW you can control all the phone's UI with it

Ordered a Fiit VR 2N today from aliexpress, I should have it between 4 to 6 weeks, I will post my impressions coming from the Cardboard 2.0

I got a VR headset for my S5, it's pretty cool to begin with but I don't think any of the apps currently available are all that. There are certain types of video you can watch on it that are much better than watching on a TV but I don't want to mention it on a family forum.

This thing makes a pretty nice Cardboard phone. The pixel density on this is insanely high and isn't pentile. The pixel response rate is a little low so I wouldn't expect gaming, but video is pretty solid.

I am really interested in the HTC 10. Currently trying out the S7 edge and I must say I love the VR GEAR for watching movies. I don't really care about playing games. On the S7, there is this cool Oculus video app that allows you to watch movies in different settings, e.g theater, home theater, moon, etc. Netflix has a nice app as well for the Gear VR. Is something similar available for google cardboard?

How is below? anyone has used?

Yes, Google is actually building its own Daydream virtual reality headset
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/techcr...l-reality-headset/amp/?client=ms-android-htc#
BUT... not sure if it will work with HTC 10 though... even with Android N update...

Update 3:56pm ET:*A previous version of this article stated that Daydream will work on current-gen phones. That was inaccurate. The platform will only run on next-gen compatible phones.

What's "next-gen" though?
The SD820 is pretty new, and true "next gen" (10nm) Android SOCs are coming anytime soon, I don't think.

I guess HTC might know, but Google is probably the one you should ask since its their standard.
Also, there's this little blurb about the HTC 10 "supporting" the Vive:
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160311PD205.html
Given the ambiguity and lack of a link, the real meaning was probably lost in translation. We'll see, I suppose.

Considering that HTC Vive is going head to head with Oculus and Samsung in the VR market, I am surprise they dont have a goggle for their phone device.

Anyone tried BoboVR z4 with the 10?
Fiit VR 2N is pretty good with the 10, surely better than stock Cardboard 2.0, though with the given filter the view is too narrow and without it you have some empty space for FOV, but all and all it's still very enjoyable.
I recommend to add some foam or rubber tape on the sides so the screen won't touch the (hard) plastic before any use unless you have a thick case that is protruding above the screen, nobody knows if it can scratch the screen without them

So... How was it?

Daydream won't be on the HTC 10. The device has to have an AMOLED screen in order to be qualified. So the best you're going to get is the Bobo Z4 or something else.

Holy cow. That thing is beautiful. Maybe they've been listening to the customers by bringing back the SD slot etc. The choice of colours is pretty nice too. Also, anyone have any clarification on what this "with Google" thing is about, is it something to do with the multi-manufacturer/multi-nexus information we had a while ago, or is it simply going to be placed on all android phones in future?

"With Google" I suspect it is a branding that is gong to be coming to all devices running JB out of the gate going forward.
As nice as this device looks, is this supposed to compete with the Note 2? It seems to have no extra software tailored to use the extra real estate in any meaningful way over the One S even. Likewise 2000mAh battery on a 1080p screen? Unless the sharp screen technology is extremely energy efficient or I'd be surprised to see the device push 3 hours of screen on time at automatic brightness, which given its push as a media consuming / watching device because of its full HD screen is a bit woeful.
To me the device is a bit like 'the emperors new clothes'.... But damn they are sexy clothes.....

I think you're right, it's neither here or there in terms of size. If they were going to go direct with the Samsung they needed a bigger battery (at least 3000mah) and a 5.5 inch screen. I think this is just a "big phone", not a true phablet.
Holy crap!
That is amazing!
I'd trade in my HOX for that bad boy!
It has seriously good looks, has an MicroSD card slot, yes yes yes!
Onboard storage is lacking but I'm guessing that's to conserve space for the MicroSD slot, so meh...
I wonder how thin and light it is!
Its also called the Butterfly not the Butterly.
If you ask me, and you haven't, but I'll put my two cents worth in anyway! It just looks a little taller than the One X. Width and depth seem similar given the "impression" the pics give. Obviously HTC have more to offer than just a bigger screen unlike Apple with their iPhone 5!!!!
Pixel Density of 440ppi as opposed to the iPhone 5's 326ppi, take that retina display!
D: I hope this comes to Europe it looks amazing!

And nagging devs to optimize games for Tegra3!
I'm almost annoyed I'm in a contract for my HOX now as I know I'm going to want that so hard when it's released!
So much for HTC not diluting the market this year!!!
This phone will also be waterproof, the nexus variant will be released when the LG nexus is announced. It says on the back of the device with google because it probably has the hardware specs that meet the standards of the Nexus program.
Their are a lot if people saying that this phone has with google because it runs jelly bean out the box not true. Their are many device being released with jelly bean with no with google on the back if it.
Another reason why I believe this is a nexus phone because surely when they unveiled it they would have talked about the hardware but they didn't, because if they do then what are they going to talk about when they unveil the nexus edition in the coming weeks. They also have sad this phone will be available during December so why announce it now.
This is HTC's way of hinting they will be releasing a nexus phone. It looks best in black because then the finish of it is not shiny. Another thing I have noticed is the charger port has a flap that obviously points to it being water proof. They have only spoken about the display ppi they haven't spoken about the screen tech. This will only be spoken about when the google nexus phones are unveiled.
This is certainly the best nexus phone coming out easily beating the LG nexus. The only thing I want from this now is a good battery life which I think will be the same as the one x U.S variant, but slightly better since it will have android 4.2 running on it

I thought we had moved on from the megapixel myth. Bigger is not always better....
I hope it still has use of the HTC Image Sense chip.
Looks great, but I honestly still like the One X's design better. Also, that new Sense variation looks weird, what with those strange icons on the left.

It's probably customizable, those could be widgets.

It certainly looks a bit more elegant than the normal MHL cables

I pre-ordered mine through Clove (I live in the states) on 10/4/13. It was originally set to be released early November then changed to mid-November. I just emailed them asking for an update and received a response that they still expect it to arrive to them this week.
I think £79 a bit steep. Does chrome cast not do the same thing?

I don't think Chromecast can use WiFiDirect at this time which means you have to have an outside WiFi source. For me, I choose not to pay $160/month for cable and internet. This device will save me greatly because I have unlimited data with T-Mobile and can stream all I want.
Clove in the UK has the Sony IM10 listed for £66.66 but appear to awaiting stock at this time.
That's the ex vat price, it's £79.99 which is the rrp.

Don't expect too much from Miracast. I have it built-in to my TV and while it's great to show off a few photos or a webpage it's absolutely not smooth enough for video. It gets stuck from time to time, framerate is low, and the quality isn't brilliant when displaying video. You can't compare it to MHL.

It's one of the brand new Sony Bravias. Clean WiFi spectrum as I live in the middle of nowhere and the only WiFi network near is my own (which wasn't in use at the time).
You can't expect something that has to be encoded on the fly and transmitted over WiFi to be brilliant quality? It's OK for photos and low-quality video like I said, but it's nowhere near good enough for high quality video. Video looks like 480p on YouTube if you play it through Miracast. Sound is good though.

Ok firstly, HTC probably won't release a smartwatch sometime soon.
Secondly, why do you want a smart watch? What do you use it for?
pebble: monochrome display. most practical I say, with long battery life and does what it's supposed to do. Yet as I say again, the display colour is only black.
Sony: All rounder with colour display, great functionality and easy to set up and use. I personally use this one.
Others: Samsung only works with the galaxy phones, so that's a no go.

Don't buy any of the current smartwatches as they aren't very good.
The HTC on has been announced and then another statement saying by the end of the year, then a mk2 probably next year which if bundled with the new phone is a winner for me, and I want one that can alert me of notifications etc, phones always on silent in my pocket so it will be a bonus.

And you are experienced with the current watches? If you are going to just make blanket statements you might as well try and back them up. Otherwise you look like an idiot.
I actually have a pebble, and it is an absolutely fantastic device.
It shows text message, phone calls, emails, FB notifications, whats app messages, etc, right on the screen.
I can control my music from it and it even displays what song is playing.
Battery lasts 5-7 days
Waterproof.
You can get tons of cool watchfaces, that show information like weather and stuff.
Lots of alarm settings and apps.
You can even get apps that do push notifications for google maps right on your watch, or allow you to call people from the watch.
Honestly I found myself wearing my pebble more than my countless other watches.
i will wait for the moto360

Maybe I should've elaborated more on why.
Yeah the Pebble isn't bad but you need to use two apps and a website to manage Pebble, it sucks the battery of the phone and the connection isn't very stable. At least that is my own experience with it. Maybe I wasn't lucky but I've spoken more people about the Pebble and they had the same issues.
It's great, but not as 'smart' as a smartwatch should be imho

It would honestly depend on your budget. If you have $300 for a tablet, then I would wait for the n7 2016 but if you only want to spend 80-90 then go for the 32gb n7 2013 model. It runs most games ok but still stutters abit. ElementalX performance mode makes things better tho. Don't make the mistake of going 16gb just shell out that extra $10 and get the 32gb one.

I played and finished those games on a Nexus 7 2013. Here are my advises;
first thing, check for the touchscreen problems. As you probably know, some devices come with ghost touches which ruin a gamer's mood
Then, there still might be some ghost touches, fix them with the mod provided here on XDA.
Now you are good to go.
About the games, don't worry they all run. Dead Trigger 2 is not so good on the highest graphic settings and NOVA 3 is only lagging at the last couple chapters of the game. They are not big lags though. You have 2 choices here; either lower the resolution to 720p with root (believe me, there is no difference in a game) or give a slight OC to the GPU. Then there will be no lag. Both work. If you do both at the same time, you will probably survive 2017 games, which is also my plan too..
I am planning to stick with that screen size until Google stops replicating Apple and comes back to widescreens.
Guys i bought nexus 7 2013.. This the device info
I need to know is my tablet support 4g?

Look in the LTE developement section. Make sure any roms or mods you are gonna flash is for deb. flo is the wifi only model. looking at the screenshot it would appear you have the model with sim (deb).

Hmm, I guess there were no announcements and no new rumors from Google i/o regarding a new 7" Google Tablet. A 7" tablet is the optimal size for me. Still very happy with my N7 2013, but I wouldn't mind a speed, storage and screen resolution bump.
If they do come out with a 2016 model, I hope they include a freaking sd card slot!

Not gonna happen. Google considers the need for external storage not to be a necessity for any device with more than 8GB of memory. I'm not one to say never but I won't be holding my breath for any Nexus device with external storage. Even adaptable storage was made for lower tier phones where internal is expensive but external cheap.
All that being said I still use mine a lot and find it to be very snappy. If there's one thing stock Android does its run well on older hardware.

N7 is great even in 2016 with a but. You can play games with great graphics without lag on KitKat only. But if u go with Lollipop and Marshmallow (meaning that you must have the latest and greatest)... Then find a different tablet as those Android versions are not optimised at all for our tablet (Google just doesn't give a damn about it)

Question Which HD audio codecs are confirmed? No adpX HD?

I haven’t been able to find anywhere that confirms which bluetooth HD audio codecs the Pixel 6 Pro will have. The codecs seem to be mysteriously left out of the specs. Look at https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7158570?hl=en and compare the Pixel 6 Pro specs with the 5a (5G) specs in the “Wireless & Location” section.
Does the Pixel 6 Pro have adpX and LDAC codecs? If so, please show me a link to confirmed info. I can’t find it.
I am also curious about that... LDAC is extremely important. All modern Qualcom Android phones have it.
I expect Google to deliver here...

I just chatted with the Google Store support and got an answer:
Both phones will support aptx, aptx hd and LDAC.
I’d certainly hope it’s true that the Pixel 6 devices will support Aptx, Aptx HD and LDAC. Thanks for chatting and finding that out. I’m curious why Google isn’t putting that info seemingly anywhere in their marketing materials. It makes me slightly nervous to just take the word of a support chat rep.
I know there’s an article on XDA pre-release where some leakers said the phone would have the codecs. That makes me feel a little better than the support rep, ha.
My Pixel 3 XL supports aptx and LDAC.
I think these codecs are just assumed to be included now.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, your Pixel 3 XL runs Android on a Qualcomm chip. That's designed to run those codecs/ the licenses are paid.
Take a look at IPhones for example. They have no codecs whatsoever. High quality bluetooth connections... that's impossible with Apple devices. They crap out way before.
Knowing Google and how easily they f*ck up important stuff, it's important to ask those questions.
I know for a fact that LDAC has been part of the Android Open Source Project for many years now and that OEMs can add it to their devices freely, but they still have to add it. It's not going to appear magically out of thin air.
Good point.
Just got my pixel 6 pro today.
Myself I'm really disappointed it doesn't support Dolby Atmos or and kind of spatial audio. I really enjoy this out of the OP8 I have now. Ordered the 6 and will give it a shot but might end up returning it.

Still technically on day one of use but so far it seems as good if not better than my old iphone 12 pro max. For now I am using the same wireless charger I was using for my z fold 3 until I am able to get a google wireless charger. You should start seeing more detailed testing on youtube in another day or so when the embargo is over.

How is it possible that you already got the P6? It's not the Google Store that sent you this, is it? Where did you order your phone?

Noice, would be nice to know what you think of the camera and especially the video quality. Those embargo jugglers don't want people to find out if the phone is truly worth it, before it's sold officially

So far it looks good. I believe it's a 50MP camera on the rear and uses AI machine learning to enhance the images. Video can do 4k and 60fps and 1080p 30fps is default.

So does that mean your headset doesn't support it or the phone doesn't support it?
Never mind, I guess the text would mean that another phone this phone is connected to doesn't support the codec. If it's in the list it's supported...which is awesome!

How do you rate P6P screen brightness compared to IPhone 12 Pro max?

Both seem really close in terms of max brightness. Though I can't see a need to run them at max brightness even in direct sunlight. Adaptive brightness seems to work fine for now.
So if aptx is available then there is some Qualcomm inside. I have the sony headphones with LDAC and that is what I use all the time with my pixel 2. I do a lot of flac and full wav file listening and while it is somewhat lost in the noisy urban world it is nice to have.
