WiFi turns off during sleep - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I work in an office thats underground, Cell reception is almost non-existent. So I depend on WiFi to keep my phone in touch with the 'net. Otherwise, my battery just drains before lunch time.
Because of this, I have to make sure that my phone DOES NOT turn off wifi while it's asleep. Otherwise, while its sleeping, it will just eat up the battery as my phone tries to report my every action to Google, and check my email.
I had this working perfectly, and then I decided to try out Android N developer preview, used it for a few days, and then factory reset the phone to go back to M. No big deal, I've done this sort of thing a thousand times with my various phones, and this is part of why I bought a Nexus this time around.
After the reset, I cant seem to convince my phone to keep it's wifi on during sleep. The option is set in the advanced wifi settings to keep wifi on during sleep always. Yet every time i turn off the screen and set my phone down, it goes silent, until I pick it up and unlock it. If it sits long enough, when I unlock it, I actually see the wifi icon missing from my status bar, and it comes on after a few second,s and then the notifications come flooding in. It's obviously doing something that disables wifi when the screen is not active.
This is killing my battery, because even though wifi is off, it's still doing its thing, trying to keep in touch with its various sync services. Its attempting to depend on cell service, which most of the time is flat out non-existent at my desk.
So what can I do to fix this? Is it possible something didnt get cleanly wiped when I reinstalled the stock rom after my foray into N? I've tried doing things like wiping dalvik, but that hasnt helped. I've also received the April OTA since then, and nothing regarding th WiFi problem has changed.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The only thing I can think to try is removing your known WiFi networks and adding it back.
In the mean time as a work around, you can disable mobile data so when WiFi does drop out it switches over to a voice only signal.

Thanks.
I have tried clearing out the saved wifi network for work, and re-joining it. Didnt help. I even went so far as to have the network guys de-authorize my phone, so when i rejoined it would be like it was never there before. Also didnt help.

What were the steps you took to return to stock?

Signal/Data Issue

Hey guys ready for a weird one? So the other day I turned on WiFi on my SIII to use the university's WiFi instead of my data like i usually do, and when it was time to turn off WiFi, I lost complete signal for data and cell reception. It was weird, so did the usual trouble shooting stuff (checking if data is on, roaming off, wifi off, correct APN)and everything there was fine. So i turned off data and turned it back on, still nothing, i turned on airplane mode, then turned it off, then it would fix the problem....for a little. After a little while the same problem would occure. So I decide to reboot the phone. That too temporarly fixes the problem. So when I got home, I did a factory reset. again, temporary fix. So then I decide to install a new rom, so I install the latest build of CM10. Fixes problem, then problem occurs again. Its extremely annoying, everything was working perfectly fine until the other day. I was on official ICS Stock Rom btw when the problem occured. My phone has been rooted this whole time, but that never was a problem the 3 months I've owned the phone. The problem is now occuring in CM10 as well. Anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Oh side note, when I installed CM10, I wiped everything chache data everything to make it as clean as possible. The issues are random disconnect from 4G data or rather any data reception, no SMS/MMS income or able to send,no calls. WiFi would work. Could this be a hardware problem? I've never dropped my phone or anything. This literally just randomly happened.
Yup
I am having this problem as well. Seems I loose reception. If I call my voicemail, reception returns for a bit and then turns off again and I repeat the process...my IMEI is fine, my APN seems fine, I don't understand what the problem is. I have tried multiple roms and continue to have this issue?

I have the same exact problem!
Similar things happened to me out of the blue about 3 weeks back. Dropping data, no connection to network, calls take 4 or 5 tries to go through sometimes, sms is flakey. I went back to stock 4.1.1 and still happened.
Went to phone store (Telus) and got a new sim. Didn't really help. Now phone is in the shop under warranty and I have a loaner HTC One S :-\
When I was around a strong cell signal it seemed better. My thoughts are that one of the power amplifiers is not working properly or at all. I will probably never really know.

Wifi connecting/slow issues

Ok in my house hold, I have a note 4 and a note 3, both phones drop wifi connections, and has very slow internet, sometimes its fine, but more often its not. Wifi is full bars.
I know its the phones, and not the wifi, At work my note 4 also does the same thing on my companys wifi, and the note 3 as well.
What the heck is wrong, Ive tried everything on both phones to fix it. Factory reset being the biggest thing that should have solved the issues.
Whats going on?
Yeah have you seen the massive thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-att/help/wifi-performance-horrible-t2921653/page4
About 1/3rd are having WiFi issues, the 2/3rd like to say its not their problem go buy another phone.
No answers in that thread. Just a bunch of blah blah blah lol.
I'm also having this issue. Seems random but its causing me to use alot of extra data.
Seems like when the phone locks or sleeps that is when it disconnects. I have went into the settings and changed to to stay connect in sleep but that didn't fix it. I have also factory reset.

Don't have that "smart Switch" option checked, do you? I had this problem when that was selected. unchecked it and it went away.

Verizon Marshmallow Location Bug

Anyone noticing the location GPS is funky? I typically turn my GPS off when not in use and I am finding that when using the PullDown toggle, the annoying Location Icon/Notification gets stuck on, and other times won't come on after its been off.
The only way to fix it is to turn it off and reboot, or turn it on and reboot. But after it gets toggles, it gets screwy again.
I haven't done much testing yet to see if it is just the icon or actually the GPS failing to toggle. Also I am wondering if going through settings to toggle is a work around.
I am out of town for work but wanted to quickly throw it out there to see if anyone others experience this weird behavior. I don't have time this week to really sit down and play with it, so a quick fix (if available) is known.
+1 on this. Just noticed the other day when I had to navigate to a party. I arrived and turned off location and it was still stuck in notification tray. Think it went away eventually, but I didn't have time to reboot so not sure what happened. Will keep an eye on it next time though.
Also, noticed the phone has trouble switching from 1x back to 4g. Has to use airplane mode to cycle the radio.
Yea I noticed that too. Again I am traveling and normally have GPS off and only turn it on when I actually launch Google Maps.
I was listening to Pandora mostly with no issues on my 8hr drive but twice, I think, I had to toggle airplane mode to get back data.
The Location notification is ridiculous. I mean its stupidly annoying already but now its getting stuck.

Just chiming in. I haven't noticed these problems. Then again I've only been on MM for 5 days now.
I get the location icon stuck in the tray as well. Reboot is the only cure.
New Wifi lag is the biggest problem for me on MM.

You really only notice it if you turn off Location, the little PIN notification gets stuck and doesn't go away on the status bar and notification that says Location on or something.
Pretty annoying.
Also my wifi just randomly stops working. I have to disconnect, reconnect and it starts again. Different topic though.

Ah ok, I hadn't had that problem. As of last night I downgraded and then rooted and removed bloatware. So doubt I'll see them problems. Though I am facing a few minor ones mainly with the all apps dual window mod. But like you said that's a different topic. Main reasons I downgraded was of course because I like full control over something I own. But wanted the 60fps video recording which I'm pretty sure we can all agree should have been included with the G4. I also finally found a nice work around for enabling silent mode with the actual volume button since the xposed module with true silent didn't work for the G4. Sorry I'm getting off topic here. But hope you find a fix.
Yea I was good with lollipop. Marshmallow hasn't included anything except bugs. I resisted the upgrade for a while but I was not rooted and the System Update popping up constantly was drivingme crazy.
A6 fixed a few annoying bugs for me but brought others.
The location notification getting stuck can happen even with location on, I never turn mine off.
Biggest problem for me WiFi disconnecting at 15%, and needing a reboot to reconnect.
Yea the location notification does get stuck regardless if turned off or not.
I ended up getting rid of the G4 because of the problems. (Qi Charging, wifi disconnects, etc).

Wifi problems after mm update

I've checked around and have seen other phones with the issue, but I've tried the fixes like forgetting network and resetting network settings. Ever since mm, every time my phone screen shuts off, it disconnects from wifi, kind of. I will still be connected jn settings, but it says no Internet available. I have to reconnect every time, and then it will work until my screen goes off again. I feel like this is killing my data since I don't always notice it. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? I'm completely stock, no root or anything. Just did a factory reset a week ago and hoping I don't have to do it again since I'm finally set back up.
Have this issue with both wifi and mobile data. Mine doesnt matter whether the screens been off or not. Its like it goes to sleep periodically no matter what. Never had the issue until the latest update. Its not tied to a specific app, so its either the radio or a bug in the phone.

Verizon S8+ Bugs and Issues

Hi everyone,
I have 2 Galaxy S8+ from Verizon and here are my issues:
Past issues:
One of them did not come with the Galaxy Apps store (Not the plays store), and that phone also experienced the DQA issue
Current issues:
If I turn on Fingerprint gestures, the fingerprint sensor will stop working, this was an issue I had from the day I got the phone and has continued even through the updates. Here's a thread I made about it a while ago : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/fingerprint-sensor-t3595614
My internal speaker has detached, or at least I think that is the issue, as sometimes when I am in a phone call and shake the phone just a little bit, it will either start making a weird buzz sound or completely cut off the sound. Shaking it again will fix it, that's why I think it's a physical issue. I haven't dropped my phone and just in case I ever do, I have a case and a screen protector on it, and neither of them (phone, case, screen protector) have any damage marks on them.
The Biggest Issue: Currently this is the most annoying bug I am experiencing is that whenever I go to lock screen and security in the setting app, it crashes the settings app. I also can't use the search function in the settings app, as it crashes the app withing a few seconds. The lock screen and security is the only menu in which I experience this, I am 99% sure this is due to me turning on Secure startup. I had it turned on a few days after I got the phone and it worked great, I had to turn it off once, about a month ago in order to get a quicker boot. After that I was experiencing issues turning it back on (meaning I turned it on, rebooted the phone and it would not work) , after some persistence, I was able to get it to work and it has worked and still works.
One thing to mention is that I had done the most recent system update, I am not sure this issue was caused by at, since the inability so search in the setting menu has happened prior to the latest update.
I have tried everything other than a full factory reset (wiping all cache, wiping apps cache, reset setting, reset network settings), which I refuse to do, It is absolutely unacceptable for me to pay this much for this phone and have so many issues with it, I have factory resetted my phone (Samsung's recommendation) in order to fix the first issue listed above, multiple times and it did not work.
At this point I really don't know what to do, Samsung support has been useless in this, I don't wish to replace my phone right now as I need it to much to even give up for one day, If anyone has any advice/fix other than factory resetting, I'll happily try it.
Thank you,
GGgamer16
Sounds like a factory reset is needed. I just tried all you mentioned with zero problems on the newest update w/ navbar options and experienced none of that. Speaker problem is most likely hardware related.
Anyone had any luck getting rid of the wifi disconnect? The issue where wifi disconnects showing a ! next to the wifi symbol on the status bar?

You try changing your WiFi channel? Using 5ghz or 2.5ghz? I use Wifi 100% of the time I'm home and never have any issues with disconnects.

Yeah I have tried changing channels. It didn't matter. I'm on 2.4 GHz.
I found a possible fix from another forum. I changed my wifi encryption from wpa2 AES/tkip to wpa2 tkip only last night and was rock solid after that point. I didn't have any more wifi issues... Just wanted to mention this change for other people. I usually got 5+disconnects every night. I'm gonna try just the AES option tonight and see how it acts.
