avoiding buying an N7 with the Touchscreen problem? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I'm considering purchasing a nexus 7 2013 for my wife. How can I avoid purchasing one with the Touchscreen problem that is present in a number of them? (I already have one of those!)
Is there a serial number or other marker of the defective ones to avoid?

Get 2015 unit...
I received another Nexus 7 (2013) (32Gb model this time) very recently, purchased from Argos in the UK (it does have December 2015 as the production date) and I have absolutely zero touchscreen issues with this hardware variant

I didn't know they still made them in 2015. Good to know. Thanks.

Dubai note 7 recall?? HELP

Alright... So basically... I was on holidays in Dubai over the last few weeks. And, over there, I was lucky enough to buy a note 7 SM-N930FD, from an official Samsung store. I had bought the phone on the 28th of august.. before the recall. Now I'm back home, in the UK, reading about the note 7 recall and have absolutely no idea how to proceed. I don't want to send my note 7 back to Dubai because I'll have no phone in the meantime and it just seems like a lengthy process. Is there a way that I can maybe get my device exchanged here in the UK? Or what are my other options?

Samsung UK are being pressed to replace the handsets with local variants. If you don't mind a UK variant you should have no problems. (Initially Samsung refused to swap at all!)
A few have said that Samsung service providers are exploring swapping out for the same model but I can't see that working. Most companies of the world only swap out a device for the local variant available in the country you're doing the exchange.
contact Samsung is your best bet......
accept the local variant, thats all
The fastest way is to directly contact a Samsung
Its easy tho, I purchased note 7 from Kuwait now I am in India (my home country). Here, Samsung delayed sale of note 7 that means till now no official launch of note 7 nor they have started any recall (obvious, they haven't sell single note 7 here). Now my question is how should I go for replacement? Help

Thanks, fortunately one of my friend went Kuwait today so I send my phone with him. :victory:
Got a call from Samsung UK. Basically stated they can swap the dual sim phone for the one sold in europe so single sim - coral blue or black.
Asked about getting the dual sim as replacement and they said I would have to sort it out with the region the phone is bought from - so Qatar in my case.
Might just get the UK version with its two year warranty

HTC 10 missing thw "2200" from CE on the back side

Hello folks, friend of mine bought a grey HTC from Europe last week, what strike me is that it doesnt have the "CE 2200" marking on the backside, mine has it. His phone CID is 034, same as mine. I have seen a couple of 10's and all of them had this marking. The phone in question has only the CE marking. I am wondering if its a fake? production date is July 2017 btw if that helps anyone...
Off ebay? Lots of used phones being sold as new even though theyre used on ebay. Use imei.info to verify its a new phone
no , regular retailer .

Android 8.1?

Anyone have any idea or hear any news of when Android 8.1 will be pushed to UK Nokia 6.1? News online 4-5 days ago that it started rolling out OTA in India?

Is yours a European spec model or from Asia?

Good to hear it is being pushed in Europe. Hopefully get it this week!
I got it from Carphone Warehouse here in the UK, they got exclusive rights to sell it. Model TA-1050.

Its annoying. Hopefully get it rolled out ASAP.
Mine is from Carphone Warehouse too. I've tried using a VPN to spoof that I'm in India and France but nothing is coming through.
I'm hoping that 8.1 will allow me to use the more recent Google Pixel camera APKs as I'm currently having to use an ancient one in order for HDR processing to work.

No joys?
My only criticism of the phone is the camera, like you say, hopefully the update will allow us to use the updated camera apps.

It's a european model
What's your model number? Mine says TA-1050
I've tried using a VPN to spoof being in France with no luck. I wonder if it's tied to my IMEI.
Any suggestions as to something else that might work would be good.

Mine is also TA-1043 version 5
According to https://nokiapoweruser.com/variants-nokia-7-plus-8-sirocco-6-plus-1-emerge-various-certifications/ there are 5 Nokia 6.1 variants : TA-1050, TA-1043, TA-1045, TA-1016, TA-1054
I bought a TA-1043 from amazon.de (shipped to ireland) and i have not gotten the 8.1 upgrade either....
Does anyone know what the difference between the various models (1043 / 1050) is?
I just got the TA-1043 in Hungary from Germany (Amazon) and got 8.1 on first boot.
Anyone with the TA-1050 model got this update yet? I'm not very impressed given my security patch is from the 1st Feb... It's nearly May.
Anyone know what model lauched in USA the other day? Be interesting to see if they also got the update out the box.
Carphone Warehouse have exclusivity in the UK - not sure if my model is 'their' brand and therefore has slowed updates. Bit annoying that the brand new Nokia 6 is behind the old Nokia 6 with updates though - kind of makes me wonder what the real point of Android One is.

Yeah I don't think that makes a difference. They are sim free/unlocked devices.
As an android one phone, the updates are pushed directly from Google OTA (supposedly). Just find it strange that it's still not pushed in the UK.

You don't happen to be with EE do you? I seen someone complaining about Nokia phones not receiving update due to EE... On an unlocked phone... I don't have another sim to try.

Considering i have a TA-1043 (same as a user above who also ordered off Amazon Germany but is based in hungary and received the update on first boot), i'm guessing the updates are just country limited. UK/Ireland seem to be down the pecking order.
Has anyone tried connecting over a VPN to do the update (or at least download it)?
I’ve tried. No luck.

i am trying to buy a used or refurb pixel 2 xl off amazon. how to determine if vzw?

like the title says i am trying to get this phone
i am trying to find one on amazon which has a lot of them very reasonably priced but obviously i dont want a vzw version.
from my google searching there are only 2 model numbers for pixel 2 xl and neither denote if it is verizon branded or not.
how can i determine i am buying the right phone before i buy it?
amazon has one called an international version that does not work with cdma eg verizon and sprint. will that give me what i want? I must have root and xposed framework or the phone is useless to me lol
any help is appreciated thank you

They should provide you with an IMEI to show it's not blacklisted. Plug in that IMEI HERE
IMEI: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (never post this online after it becomes yours) :good:
Brand: LG
Phone model: Pixel 2 XL G011C
Serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Product model: G011C
Manufacture date: October 20, 2017
Shipped from factory: October 21, 2017
Estimated phone age: 2 year(s) 3 month(s) 2 week(s) 1 day(s)
Buyer code: USX
Buyer name: GOOGLE_OPEN_64G
CSN number: LG0000903306500
Blacklist status*: CLEAN
If the buyer name or code comes up VERIZON, you have your answer
Make sure you get the right phone. My GF ordered a unlocked phone from Amazon an they gave her the VZW version.
