I'm having some issues getting Viper to work on my N5X running 0409 CM13 nightly.
I have busybox (the recommended one from the material Viper thread), SELinux is Permissive (set through SELinuxModeChanger) and the app has root access (just CM root though, not SuperSU, as installing that got me in a bootloop).
Whenever I try to install it takes a long while and the app stops responding but after ~2 minutes I get the "instalation successful" message and prompted to reboot. Upon reboot I get the initial prompt to install/update driver, as if it wasn't installed.
What's going on? Thanks!
standard installation of v4a doesnt work anymore with nexus 6p/5x bec of the vendor file so dirty flash your rom + gapps + whatever mod you have except for any audio mods then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/viper4android-t2952137
and flash ViPERAtmos 4.8 Sony Beats Edition.zip then follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/viper4android-t2952137/post66295480#post66295480 to make soundcloud and other apps get processed with viper/pulse (if your rom has pulse)

Thanks! Does CM13 have pulse? And what is it?

I have tried installing V4A, but after installing drivers it hangs upon opening, eventually causing the phone to reboot.
I have tried both backing up and renaming the htc_audio_effects.conf file, as well as editing it to include the V4A info. Nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?
First of all you need root. You have to set Android to permissive, then install V4A using TWRP and ZIP. Install drivbers and it will work AFTER you set V4A driver mode to "compatible". Just tested using latest Leedroid custom rom (nightly R34) on HTC 10 (s-off).

Flash in recovery. Spent all afternoon looking for proper install instructions and found nothing until that nice fellow posted those.
Viper4android did not work 100% using Leedroid: systemsound got crippled
Viper4android is working 100% with ViperROM. Just flash the above ZIP and all is working fine.

I'm on Leedroid 1.2 stable and works perfectly.
I did experience the crippled audio you're referring to during a failed installation. Make sure the /system/etc/htc_audio_effects.conf exists and wasn't deleted.

Do you have any idea whether it would work on stock rom or not? Of course I'm rooted and s-off.

Check your selinux status it needs to be permissive for V4A to work.
Actually I installed it and it works. Kinda. And yes I used a script to get permissive selinux. It only works with music, (spotify, google music). Youtube has no sound whatsoever ar audible is crackling and fussing all over. "Fixed" it by changing the htcaudioeffect file back to normal, which disables viper4android. I just wish it worked with all sound.
First off I will say I am on Stock Rooted ROM and it works perfectly, I have confirmed its 100% compatible, You DO NOT have to use permissive, I have an Enforcing Patch in my thread along with more info on what you need to do to get it working, also for HTC 10 there is a specific file to flash that I also made, without it V4A will not work, and keep asking to install drivers!
My Thread
V4A HTC 10 Fix
After this, if you can't get it working either there is something you still haven't done or your ROM developer has messed up a certain system file associated with Audio, I have seen this before.
One last thing I should note, S-ON can cause issues, you should either have S-OFF or System Write Protection Disabled via a kernel module, S-ON can prevent a script from making changes to /System.
About V4A
On the A9 it will work but it will put Boomsound to Off all the time, is it the same on the 10 or you can use both without problem?

I use both no problem, personal Profile and V4A works great, Dolby Headphone effect works perfectly as well.
I installed the 2 zips a couple of days ago and the sound is pretty great for me. I see people mentioning different profiles, enabling speaker and other modes, etc., but how can you do that without installing the APK (as advised not to)? I don't know of any other UI to control those types of things?

how do i change my selinux status to permissive?? i want to try viper4android and make sure i install it correct. i dont know this step.
So I'm running lineage 14.1 as they finally released a copy for the A5(2017) and I can't seem to install SU, it said binary is full. I would use magisk but alot of stuff still does not support it. How would I hide root from apps with SU? I have tried a few ways and it failed. Second the audio tweak lenage has is terrible, how would I remove it and go to a better one? And finally what are some good custom kernels that are compatable with Lineage and the Samsung galaxy A5(2017)
LOS come with pre installed root. U have to flash a zip to enable it.
https://download.lineageos.org/extras
Flash appropriate zip from above link (arm64)
Use ViperForAndroid for better audio
Use alphabet kernel for more tweeks
Pls do some research before posting.

I have done research and flashed it but I absolutely hate the built in root. Viper last time I tried won't work and I can't set SE Linux to permissive and alphabet kernel does not specify what OS's it supports and have had it where it kept rebooting my phone on stock kernel settings.
So alphabet kernel caused lineage OS to go into an infinite boot loop and viper needs permissive SElinux which I have not been able to do. Can anyone help me? I know alphabet you can set it to permissive but caused lineage to infinitely boot
Hi , i'm a little lost about installing a custom . I know i have to root my phone and install TWRP to flash the custom ROM but what about the custom kernel ?
Thanks
well u must know that if u just backed up drm keys and unlocked bootloader, after installing twrp and reading the log u can see that it says "Kernel does not have support for reading SELinux context" this means that kernel does not support selinux so u must change the kernel i recommend to get the kernel from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/development/safetynet-stock-kernel-twrp-magisk-t3621404
then u must choose the google drive link then depending on ur model choose single or dual then flash the kernel via fastboot then boot into recovery and install the ROM and Open GApps (ARM64) u like in my case i installed Mokee because it is the only one with official support and always updated with latest security patches the only problem is that it include xposed and u wont be able to bypass SafetyNet and if u open online games the phone crashes and reboots
if u want to install mokee go this link (even if it says dual it supports all Z5P models): https://download.mokeedev.com/?device=satsuki

well u can install sony apps with a Magisk module called "Sony Apps Enabler" install the module, reboot phone and delete Playstore data
about the DRM functionality u can flash Zach's kernel but its only available for Unlocked Stock 32.3.A.0.376 even tho in the post it says the dev is making this kernel to work with custom ROMS comming soon: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...ernel-zachs-kernel-playground-z5-wip-t3340725
but u can recover good audio functions by installing this mod: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1jwsked0y4853td/Z5-6.0.1-ALL+In+One+Mod+V3.0.zip
and Viper4Android: http://www.mediafire.com/file/xonl4jha2e4vez1/ViPER4Android_FX_v2505.zip
flash the mod via recovery then reboot phone and install Viper4Android apk once u open it a window of installing the driver will appear, press Yes, the app will freeze but dont close it beacuse the installation is in progress, once driver is installed reboot phone and configure in the app, i recommend to enable everything except reverberation and speaker optimization (this one is bc if u enable speaker optimization audio loses some volume power)

Hello again!
I'm here to present you my latest work in audio mods.
This solution requires only to have Magisk and root installed.
So,let's get started:
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
This is the official procedure to install Viper4Android for both Pie and Q, and it's recommended to use in conjunction with my other mod (You'll find the thread in this section of the XDA Forum)
INSTALLATION (for both custom rom and MIUI)
- Download the APK of Viper4Android from here: https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.pittvandewitt.viperfx
- Install it but DON'T OPEN IT YET.
- Install the zip via magisk and reboot again
- Open Viper4Android app
- Install Drivers
- Reboot
- Enjoy
Thanks to @Team_DeWitt for the audio mod and to all of the testers that helped me write all of the DDC's, Kernels and presets.
Enjoy!
I got loop, is not opening and every time it asks for driver installation, i am doing everything properly.

So as the title says, need collective experience to make the move, and be preemptive along the way of the possible pitfalls and limitations.
Havent experimented much with my XL 128GB lying circa 2018 when i bought it and it still runs fine. As of now it is :
1. Google model (not any carrier branded unit).
2. Android V 8.0.0
3. Bootloader Unlocked (OEM Unlocking enabled int he Developer Options)
4. Rooted.
5. Custom recovery TWRP 3.2.0.-0 installed.
My primary intended use was to make it my music player with AptX-HD and LDAC enabled via the Developer Options, for my wireless hifi headphones and it has been doing so.
As an semi-audioholic I have Viper4Android and Dolby ATMOS working fine on it, with Sony Walkman App, these were only found to work correctly on 8.0.0 as i did spent a great deal of time to make them work with 8.1.1 back in the day.
So I am looking for the most safest route to upgrade to 10.0.0 with the possibility of knowing if the below would remain applicable.
1. Should I go for OTA update as-is OR Do i need to relock bootloader or Un-root before the OTA update. (Any sequence or specific steps to be followed).
2. Will the OTA update lock the bootloader and will remove the root privileges.
3. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and re-root the device on v.10.0.0 (any guide link appreciated).
4. Will the OTA overwrite the TWRP recovery, is there any newer/better recovery + kernel available with V.10.0.0 (any guide link appreciated).
5. Will ARISE audio (Viper + Dolby + Sony Music Apps) work on the latest android version.
6. Is all the hassle recommended, if the experience is significantly better on v.10.0.0. Any known issues with the latest android, which I should be aware of.
7. Any alternate way and/or newer/better DSP recommended to work with v.10.0.0 for sound enhancements.
8. Is Magisk framework and module working with v.10.0.0.
Thanks for reading and replying , as it would chalk out a path not only for me but for community at large for someone on a similar quest as mine.
Appreciate your input.
1. Download a pixel factory image from Google(latest is Dec 2019) and flashed it using fastboot( u will find guide on xda or YT)
2 Do not relock botloader if you want to root or install custom rom
3. Dolby Atmos will not work,if you flash Dolby Atmos mod zip in magisk it may cause bootloop .viper fx may work never tried
4. Android 10 is much better in user experience it is smooth
5. You can root your phone using latest magisk in twrp
6. There are some good kernel available for android 10 for pixel like Elemental x 5.6, king kernel v6.1, etc.
7. There is no sound enhancement mod for android 10, viper may work
8. U can't do some system modification like changing boot animation, system sound, font by yourself. If u want customization u can install custom rom though
My english is bad
hope this will help u

1. Will pixel factory image also overwrite the recovery.
2. Can I install a custom recovery after v10.0.0.
3. Do i install custom recovery first after V10.0.0. or should I root first. Sorry I am outta practice for some time
4. Any issues in v10.0.0 which I should be aware of. (Battery Drain, Lags or anything else).
5. Any guide for installing Magisk on V10.0.0
Thanks for your response

1 Yes pixel factory image will overwrite custom recovery
2. You can install a custom recovery as well as custom rom after 10
3. You don't need custom recovery permanently installed to root your phone. ( Temporary boot into twrp using fastboot and twrp.img and install magisk)
4. If you pixel is old consider a Battery drain as battery life decreases with age

TWRP is Optional. It's written over there in the OP of each Rom
I always did USB debugging option enabled in developer option and give my PC Authorization. So if something goes wrong I can always flash a factory image. In Android 10 I can't make a nandroid backup of the stock rom before flashing any custom rom. so there no point to install TWRP permanently because if something goes wrong u can't restore a backup. If I want in flash any zip in TWRP I always temporary boot into it using fastboot and flash.
TWRP will be permanently needed when you want to install ota updates for the ROM.
I am not an expert though
Please follow the OP :good:
