Does anyone know which of these two has the most or strongest coverage areas with 4G / 4G LTE in the USA? I'm asking because I'm currently using AT&T and their services cover just about every area I have been to. The 4G is awesome. But StraightTalk gives you 5 GB of high-speed data for just $45.00 /mo. while AT&T only offers 2 GB. Is StraightTalk's services as good as or better than AT&T's?
Straight talk uses 3 different networks for byop. Sprint,at&t, and T-Mobile networks. If youre using an at&t modeled phone on straight talk youre still using at&t network. If you brought a tmobile phone to them it would use t mobiles network. And same thing for sprint phones. But why not go to cricket? Im using my unlocked d851 on cricket which is also at&ts network. But i get 10gb LTE for 60 a month. Im definitely happy with it. I havent gone over my high speed limit yet. Ive been with cricket for 5 months now

I see. It's good to know that 10 GB is good for a whole month. Did you know that StraightTalk also offers 10 GB / mo. for $55.00 /mo.? BTW, I decided to go with StraightTalk AT&T's services! I love AT&T!
No i didnt know that. Well maybe ill switch to them next month. I had a sprint phone i used with them a couple years ago. Do they still have a processing fee on bill payments? Because cricket is 60 dollars even. Ill def go for 55/ month straight talk. I just hope they dont give me a sim that uses t mobile network. Att is so much better in chicago area than tmo

Thats super legit. I just checked straight talk .com i can just order a sim card thats att compatible since my phone is unlocked. Have you began your service yet?

Thanks for the info. Ill be saving 60 dollars a year beginning next month. The reason i asked if youve activated, im wondering does straight talk use a att.net based apn or if they use an aiowireless.net apn like cricket does. No big deal either way i guess. I can testify the aio apn works just fine but i just imagine an apn with "att" in the address to be faster lol.. This is based on nothing

No. I have not begun my service yet. I just ordered a StraightTalk-AT&T Micro-SIM Card Kit off of eBay. It's coming form North Carolina. I live in South Carolina so I'm hoping to have it by Saturday. I'm switching when I get it. I've already used up my 2 GB of High-Speed Data from AT&T GoPhone. 2 GB is no where near enough data for me. I can't wait to switch!

Hi,
Currently I have a droid DNA on Verizon with unlimited data, text and calls. I was grandfathered in. I really want to lower my bill monthly and want a new phone as well. I was thinking of getting either a Verizon Galaxy S4 or HTC One and trying out straight talk for a month. IF all works well, I may port my main number over. Otherwise, I would just keep the One/S4 on Verizon.
Has anyone used the HTC One from Verizon on an MVNO? I hear that all the 4G LTE phones are Unlocked out the box. Just wanted to make sure before I buy.
unless something has changed in the last couple of months you can only use old 3g only verizon devices on straight talk. you cannot use 4g devices. plus you have to pay them something like 50 bucks to unlock it and move it to straight talk, which usually doesn't justify the cost of buying an old VZW 3g phone. maybe, if you have one laying around then you can justify the cost.
straight talk is kind of a pain too, if you miss your payment date by 7 days then they close your account. possibly losing your number. it's not like virgin mobile where you can shut the phone off for 90-120 days before they close the account and you lose your number. not to mention straight talks unlimited data is no where close to unlimited. they will close your account after 1.5gb i believe.
if you have decent sprint service in your area i would suggest looking at virgin mobile or boost. either of those have way better phones than straight talk and you can get 4g with them if available in your area.

The ST website says you can get an AT&T compatible 4GLTE Sim for GSM phones and plug it in, activate, then activate your airtime card. I've seen people do this with the Droid DNA so I was wondering if the One would do this also.
You don't have to pay anyone to unlock anything. All verizon 4GLTE phones are unlocked out the box. The Htc one and s4 have GSM radios in them, which means ATT or Tmobile should pick up.
i don't believe the program for ATT phones on straight talk is the same as verizon phones on straight talk.
from what i understand from researching this a few months ago was that only verizon 3g phones could be ported to ST. if it was a 4g phone then ST would not allow you to use on their network (more likely verizon won't let ST on their 4g network and are just leasing them the less used 3g network). The only way to use a verizon 3g phone was to pay for ST to unlock it.
i highly doubt you can take a 4g verizon phone and use it on ST, if you can't find the information you need on the web then call/email ST and ask them. the few times i had to email them they got back to me within a few hours.
---------- Post added at 01:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 PM ----------
i see you are wanting to use a ST ATT sim in the verizon one, to use on the ST network which would use ATT towers.
i'm not sure if this is possible. i would ask ST and see what they say. it could be that they say NO just because the person you get doesn't understand what you are trying to do. Perhaps the other way would be to simply try it and see what happens... but if you are currently using the phone on Verizon, then this would probably end your contract and unlimited data.
however, i still stand by my conviction that you cannot use verizon 4g devices on ST where ST uses Verizon towers.

Yeah I don't care about ST service where ST is using Verizon towers. I was wondering if the ST ATT Sim that you can buy would work in an HTC One from Verizon. I have the DNA on Verizon now and my One will be arriving soon. I figured I will keep the DNA on Verizon so I don't loose Unlimited Data. But before I blow $51+ tax on a ST Sim card and data plan card, I wanted to know if anyone had it working on their phone?
ATT has good coverage where I live.
Just as an update. The phone works with straight talk just only get edge data and I can't send mms probably because just the data is slow.

I know this is an old post, but can you tell me how you got yours to activate. I have a Droid DNA and it keeps telling me that it is not compatible. I have not switched the SIM cards yet. Will it work once I buy an AT&T SIM Card? I do not know much about how the SIM cards work. Right now the old verizon SIM is still in there and it says the IMEI number is not compatible. Will that change once I switch the SIM cards?
Just pop in the straight talk SIM it will recognize it after you buy a plan and put in the apn settings from their site.

So I am currently on simple and I have been on 4.3 for a while. I regret not being in t mobiles good graces because I would love to have lte. But tonight I did a factory reset. When it booted back up I notices that the 4G icon now says 4G lte. It never said that before. Now I usually get between 5 and 10 mbps down and 1 to 5 up. About the same as.tmobile. which makes sense because simple uses tmo towers. But after I noticed the new icon I did a test and I am now getting average 35mbps down and 14 up. And it is snowing here usually when it snows my data speeds go way down not up. Does anyone know ow if simple launched an lte network? I dont. See anything about it anywhere.
Newer mind I just found an article that confirmed it 5 hey did start lte on the 50 and 60$ plans. Yay.

Can you link me that article please? I've been thinking about going to Simple Mobile
I Google "news about simple mobile and lte" and it came up I think the second one. But it seems that anywhere tmo has lte so does simple now. Keep in mind it is only on their $50 and $60 plans. But if you are like me you will need the 60 plan after coming from tmo unlimited data 5 gigs just socks but hey. Also when simple throttles you they pull all the way back on that throttle. In the article it says after data cap you will be throttled.to 256k I was hopping that we would go to at least hspa speeds but I guess not.

Oh i already know about the throttles and i can get by on the $50 3 gig plan. Every MVNO throttles after you reach a certain amount. Straight Talk only gives 2.5 gigs and then throttle to 120 kbps, so the 256kbps is the fastest speed throttle you'll find on any prepaid. 256k is still fast enough to check FB, Twitter, email ect. Just not for streaming, which i never do unless on wifi. I have wifi access just about everywhere i go, so i think i should be fine.
MetroPCS would be good
Another thing i wanna add. You said you're on the $60 Simple Mobile plan? You should switch to MetroPCS. They just went nationwide with their LTE. They use T-mobile as well, and their unlimited LTE plan is $60 a month.
So wait metro is like simple. You can use tmo towers or sprint or verison? I wish I knew that. I might have to switch. Thanks for the info.

Metro is only T-Mobile towers. T-Mobile bought out Metro for their spectrum, but instead of getting rid of Metro they decided to keep it as another MVNO, except Metro gets everything T-Mobile customers get. You just save $10/month on the bill. Only difference.
Thanks - been a Simple Mobile User for awhile, but Metro PCS is worth looking into
I thought MetroPCS was on CDMA so I never looked at them, but they just opened a store here so I think I will check them out if the. Back in the day Simple was truly unlimited---not so much these days.
Update: I just looked at their phone FAQ and it doesn't look like you can BYOP with MetroPCS. (does anybody know differently?) All of their phones are locked down with Secure Lock so if you flash unauthorized firmware the phone won't work. This doesn't look so attractive to me now.
As soon as I saw that I could use metro I checked it out. They do have byop and it says pretty much any unlocked gsm phone. I want to go to a metro store to look further. But if they have true unlimited data. Or 5 gigs of lte and then trotted back to hspa or hspa+ I could live with that.
You cna bring any gsm phone

It's truly unlimited man. No throttles. I have a friend on metro that uses around 20 gigs a month, all LTE, no throttles. He streams Netflix with his phone.
The only time his phone is ever on HSPA or HSPA+ is if he's in an area where that's all that's available. Because where we live the entire area is covered in HSPA+, but only about 90% is covered in LTE.
Hello everyone so I just have to ask. I am strongly considering moving to T-Mobile from Verizon considering T's new promotions. Gonna go to the Note 3 if I do. So what I want to know is how is the development? Is anyone from the central Kentucky area or East Tennessee area (I travel between the two a lot.) How is the coverage, 4g coverage, 4g speed? Just doing some research before I make the jump. Any opinions is appreciated.

I think newer Verizon phones have SIM cards, not sure of details, but maybe you could get 1 month prepaid SIM from T-Mo and possibly test it? The problem with asking others is that a person on one side of town could have totally different coverage from the person across. In some less populated areas T-mo may have less coverage, but you can use WiFi calling and alleviate some problems that way.

As Verizon is charging $700 compared to the 800+ at&t is charging for an off contract note 4 I was wondering if its possible to use the off contract verizon Note 4 on AT&T. I have a mobile share plan with AT&T with other lines still in contract so I can't easily switch to verizon or I would. Does anyone know?

How would one use a CDMA device on a GSM network??
It was my understanding that all Verizon phones now had a SIM slot for LTE Compatibility? I assumed if the Sim slot was unlocked you'd be able to put an AT&T sim card in and configure carrier settings and get access but wanted to confirm?

Most modern Verizon phones have GSM radios in it, and it's unlocked.
The problem with using Verizon's Note 4 on AT&T is LTE. They don't have the same radio, so you'd be stuck on AT&T's 3G.
This was the conversation I had with an AT&T rep today. She was convinced I could just buy the Note 4 from VZW at $699 and bring it over to AT&T... she didn't mention, nor did she seem to be aware that LTE would not work.
Yes well, it all depends on the ATT LTE Band that's in use in your area. I have a VZW S5 that's on ATT prepaid pulling LTE all day. Band 7 I believe.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
VZW phones generally have radios with some overlapping LTE band coverage with both ATT and TMO. AWS Band 4 I believe is used by all 3 carriers but not in all areas of the US.
Unfortunately VZW mainly uses Band 13 and ATT band 17 although supposedly Samsung devices have this enabled in the Hidden Menus but I have never gotten band 17 on ATT.
My 2 cents
Verizon's website says their model supports bands 4 and 13. The AT&T website says their model supports bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, and 29. From what I remember, AT&T's primary LTE bands are 4 and 17 so if Verizon is being completely truthful and it doesn't support any other bands other than 4 and 13, your LTE coverage may be spotty or even completely non existent.
Verizon Note 4 is out now...
Anyone have a report yet?
I can confirm verizon note 4 is working on at&t & tmobile.
I just got my verizon note 4 today and i put my tmobile sim in it and i had to do apn settings and it worked fine the only problem is lte is not working it worked on hspa and my speeds were 6mb down and 2.5 mb up. Which is good for me.
But if u want to use lte u have to enable band 4 which is locked on verizon model. To enanble it u neef to root ur phone with chainfire root (it's the only method to root right now) but it will trip knox sensor and void ur warranty .
And same applies for at&t. No lte but 6mb on hsps looks good to me.

U just need to enter the right apn settings. I'm getting mms just fine on straight talk. My problem is that our phones support air view with pen and finger, and yet they buried the setting so deep we need root to access it and make it stick. I used nova launcher to access the setting but it turns back off once the phone is put to sleep. Stupid! Just let us decide If we want it or not!!!

I have a POS s3 mini as a work phone (att) I've put that Sim in my Verizon s4 and all was good. Traveling internationally put the att Sim in my vzw note 4 I get voice but not data connections.

Just ported my work number (verizon) to my personal account (ATT) and they let me keep my note 4. I used the APN settings for the ATT S5 and am getting around 10mbps/down and 2-5mbps/up. I'm not rooted yet but will be working on that to see if I can get LTE functional.
I use Hangouts for SMS so that was already working.

So the Note 4 requires root to enable the service menus in order to enable the various bands available on the phone. Verizon has chosen to restrict this access. You need to modify the build.prop and the efs\carrier\hiddenMenu file. So until a root procedure is available the retail version is stuck with HSPA+, which isn't too bad I guess.
Working on my s5 I have made the changes but I am still figuring out how to exactly turn on the disabled bands. I am also hoping these modifications will apply to the Note 4 once root is available.

You have to modify the APN settings after you put the ATT sim in the VZW phone.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried flashing the phone with ATT's firmware. Perhaps this is a more benign method which, as a plus, would show ATT logos throughout the interface. I'm having a verizon note 4 given to me; I'm considering my options.
Hi guys,
I am looking into getting this device. However I am not sure if I can use it with verizon. I had a little chat today with a verizon rep after shipping my note 7 back and I got told that I could now use any phone with verizon as long as it has a sim-card slot and one of the regular sim sizes (microSIM and nanoSIM).
Anyone tried it with verizon?
I belive its gsm networks

According to Verizon I can use any unlocked phone which accepts a SIM card....
Its a lot of money to be stuck with as paper weight
I also would like to know this.
Voice and SMS Only so far for me.
No LTE as VZW requires Band 13 for BYOD phones and this phone does not have 13.
It does have EV-DO so 3g should work but I can't get it to.
Ah to bad. Such an amazing phone. Just crazy that the world can't unite and standardize frequency bands and protocols. We were able to have shipping containers and the cigarette lighter plugs standardized . Too bad that we can't do it here.
