Just got mine! :) - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got C today. 64 GB. Doing the update as I type this.
So what next? With all the working bugs I'm seeing about N, and multi screen not being that HUUUGE of priority right now (maybe it will be once I dive into the thing.) I probably wont do the OS change to N until it it pushed.
With that said, what are some cool tips, tricks, apps, gadgets, and goodies you guys are using and find freaking awesome for this thing?!? I will be getting the C's metal keyboard eventually, but I just wanted to know some suggestions and things to try that you love.
Also, can you use the "debloater" tool to disable apps you don't want running like I do on my LG G4?
Thanks guys!

Nobody would like to chime in? :/

Congratulations! I just got mine last week, and I get another one today because the one from last week had some issues.
Hmm well you can buy a stylus for it, so that you can write or draw on the thing. Or a smartcover a la ipad.
I'm still thorn about screen protector tough. Hate them.
Did you use the Dev discount?

Thanks for responding.
I did use the Dev discount. :good:
And the couple of days I've had it; absolutely zero issues that anyone mentioned in the past I've read about.
I do have a basic stylus (a dumb one with a rubber end I used for my G4.) I don't think I'm gonna be doing any drawing on it, but if a smart stylus would add some functionally to it then I might consider.
A smartCOVER you say? Whats the benefits of one? Also, any cool Apps you can recommend?

BlackBerry Theme?

hey whats up peeps.
ive been dying over the last few days. I do currently have a dash, and my contract will be up in about 2 months. ive been going to a bunch of cellphone stores, to kinda research what i want next, and im pretty much thinking about waiting unit either the touch pro 2 comes out or the snap. the real reason im writing tho, is because i have recently fallen in love with the visuals from the newest blackberrys. however i personally thing the blackberry os is useless and not as smart as wimo. so dose anyone know of a skin/theme that can emulate something like the blackberry bold?
i have googled and came across this: http://blackberrysync.com/2009/02/blackberry-application-suite-for-windows-mobile-hands-on/
however not really not what i wanted.
any help. plz i love the look of the bold.... not enough to buy a blackberry tho.

I don't think anybody else wants to make their Dash look like a Blackberry but you, good luck on that.
Yah I wouldn't want to make my dash look like a BB, I mean thats why I got a dash not a BB... haha

Sorry but it looks like nobody else is interested on making their dash look like a BB.
This is the only thing that I would consider to use that's pretty sweet, if I wasn't addicted to the sliding panels. You might like it.

Is there a custom wp7 rom for the Nexus One? I ask this because I just upgraded to an Atrix and would like to have a wp7 for my wife to try out. I'm really trying to get her into smartphones. Any help and/or direction would be great.

Nope since WP7 is the property of Microsoft and such. The closest would be trying Metro UI Launcher in the market. I used to use that but after getting a Focus I can say that even though it's an amazing launcher, it's a farcry from the real experience of WP7.
Thanks for the response. One more question. You said it was a far cry from wp7. Do you think Metro UI offers enough of an experience somewhat similar to the real thing so it would satisfy her curiosity? She has 0 experience with smartphones, so I was wondering if I could just kind of toss that at her and say "Try this out, if you like it I'll get you a wp7?"

I would say it does. It's one of the better WP7 UIs around. But just stick with the main pages and don't get into customizing the appearance. It can get complicated.

Its pretty nice. It was $119 at Costco with a bunch of cheap accessories included. I do miss the trackball on the N1. I was running cyanogen mod on my N1 and going to Motoblur isn't all that bad, but I'll probably get rid of it eventually and go back to Launcher Pro. The phone is more than powerful enough to handle blur. The screen is really nice. The back cover is weird though, it snaps on, is super thin, and really flexible. Overall, I think it is well made. I've been a moto fan though since the E1, so I'm just excited to see they are doing well again.

I was in a similar situation. Wife didn't want a new phone, especially not one of my huge hard-to-use smartphones (I had an HD2 previously). But I went ahead and ordered her a Omnia 7 anyway (I really wanted to have one car mount etc). When the phones arrived I just gave her the box and left it up to her what to do with it - and the next day she finally opened it and had a look. Turns out she absolutely loves it and would never go back. Must have been real easy to get going with also as she didn't ask any questions during setup - after she only asked how to get FB chat, Messenger and a few other functions.
So I'd say, just get her one. Chances she won't like it are slim.

[Q] HTC Desktop Cradle

I've seen a number of websites describing the desktop cradle for the Incredible S but I can't find anyone who sells it. The model number appears to be HTC CR S460.
I'd love to get my hands on one of these. Has anyone seen them for sale?
Attached a pic for reference.
I've seen rumors of it "coming soon" but no actual product. There are a couple of third party cradles available if you search around.
i would get one of these if the display rotated, no point of looking at a sideways home page.

If it's not enabled by default, it will be somewhere in the settings. I know it's there because I was rather surprised to see it work when past versions of Sense that I'd used did not support it.

ya..I can't seem to find out how. I looked all over my settings and can't find anything.
Interestingly, I can't find it either Maybe I'm crazy.
I'm about 98% sure that the rotation worked in Sense because I remember being surprised to see it long before I loaded up LauncherPro.
Now I'm concerned about my sanity!
I'll keep digging around. If I can't find it by tomorrow, I'll concede defeat and institutionalize myself.

Works on the Incredible S, but there is no visible option in settings for us.
I remember having the feature out of the box. Maybe the guy at the verizon store did something to enable it. I definitely can't find it now.
Of course, I've been fiddling in secret menus as well.
Who knows. I'll jack with it tomorrow. If I find it, I'll post it. Otherwise, I'm switching back to LP.

Thanks man, appreciate it. Its the only thing that's been really bothering me about this phone at the moment.
Well, I have to admit I couldn't find the option, but I did confirm with a friend that I showed him the fact it was working before. I'm not sure how it was working, but it is a feature of Sense and for some reason it's disabled.
On the bright side, if you really must stick with Sense, there have been hacks for quite some time to enable this feature on rooted devices. Once the unlock is released and you can root your device, you can then enable this once someone releases support for it in a ROM.
On the other hand, if you are not married to using Sense, you can also use another launcher. I'm pretty partial to LauncherPro.

For those looking for the official cradle for the Dinc 2 I have good news and bad news. The good news is that it is finally listed on Verizon's website:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...ryDetails&archetypeId=12661&accessoryId=47607
The bad news is that it is out of stock and listed for $50 making in ridiculously expensive compared to cradles for other phones.
Hopefully when it finally gets into their system the price will drop.
If you don't need the official HTC cradle I found that most of the cradles my store sells for the thunderbolt work perfectly with the Inc2. I tested the one we have with mine and there isn't any wiggle room in the back when its in the dock, just a slight gap in the front of the cradle.

If it's cheaper, that might be useful.
Believe it or not, I'm actually using a business card holder. I have to put it on the side with the data port up instead of down, which complicates things if I want to play video files, but it works otherwise. Unfortunately the only camera I have right now is on my phone so I can't really take a pic of the setup
Edit: This is kinda like what I'm using:
I can find it online for about thirty bucks. It's seidos version of the cradle for the tbolt. Works well and has a good quality feel to it.

I have a couple of questions. Does it fit the phone with a case? And does it switch the rotation? Last question, it doesnt switch to the car dock mode right? Sorry i just got an android phone and am still figuring it out.

+1. and if so what size case will fit in it? im guessing the otterbox defendor wont come close but maybe the seidio surface case could work, or and amazon tpu case possibly? Not saying you would know the answer for sure but what would be your guess?
The cradle has an insert with it. When I took that off I was able to use it with my body glove case on and have a perfect fit. Anything larger would have issues but the feather cases, surface cases, and other slim designed cases will work.

[Q] should i buy this phone now?

so i brok my note 4 screen ytd, and it cost me too much to repair it again (i already broke once). I decided to switch from samsung as its built quality is terrible (also, i hate the ugly home button). i m actually looking forward to get this phone. is it still worth to get it now? as i am quite busy lately, i dont plan to root it anymore.. can i still freeze some built in apps i dont need?
thanks

Hey, man. I'm having the same dilemma. I'm looking for a 300-350 $ smartphone and I think this is the best available, but don't know if this phone is worth it after a year from it's release. Can anybody advice us?
I got the phone less than a month ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's still right up their with the top of the line phones spec wise. Nothing wrong with getting this phone now. 3GB of RAM, a fast processor, updated to Lollipop. Not sure what else anyone needs in a smartphone. Plus a 5.5" screen with a great display and LG's UX is much better than Samsung's TW if you ask me.
To the OP, you won't be able to freeze apps without root, but you can uninstall updates/disable any app that you don't want to use or see anymore. You can't completely uninstall them, but they won't be running or seen. Any Lollipop phone can do this.

Ive just done exactly what you folks are asking today. Returnred my Note 4 as I really hate TW with a passion and that horrible screen touch "pop pop" everytime you press something. I bought the N4 a few days ago, hoping that Sammy had done something with TW in 501 update, albeit they havent.. and I found I had no use for the S-Pen, but I do think the N4 QHD screen is stunning. I returned the N4 and bought a G3 and got money back... .. amazing phone, loving it so far.. and the audio is awesome, with the QuadBeat Headphones and 1Amp speaker.

I agree ... The G3 is a great phone and apart from the G4, theres nothing on the market that touches it.. the S6 still has TW, The One M9 is just an M8 with a new camera. theres no new Nokia/MS flagships yet, the NExus 6 is an alternative if you want pure Android, so ATM... the G3 is one of the best phones out there until the G4 comes down in price (which I cant wait for), but at the moment the G4 is too pricey.
Go for it, buy the G3, you can pick up a Brand New unlocked/Unbranded G3 for about £350/$400 .. so yeah... I recommend it
Good luck
Thank you guys, I'll follow your advices and my gut. Soon I'll be part of the G3 family.
I got mine from amazon Wednesday to replace my z2. The phone is amazing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...ords=lg+g3&dpPl=1&dpID=41uvCd6+PVL&ref=plSrch this is where i got mine
I'm a phone-a-holic lol and rarely keep one for more than 6 months before moving onto something else newer and better. Over the years this is by far the best phone I've owned. It almost seems impossible to brick. It can be but simple to get out of a soft brick. Go for the g3 you won't be disappointed.

Still using?

Hey anyone still using this bad boy? My screens got some cracks. Anywhere in Australia can get it fixed? Awesome tablet.
I still have it but do not use it too often, just keeping it updated and sometimes play some retro games on it.
Still use it everyday. Bought a Brand New Google Keyboard Cover on eBay a few months ago for real cheap (like $45 lol) and now it's even better. Typing this message on it now.
Thinking of doing a factor reset and starting fresh, but not sure what that would gain me.
I just picked one up used with a keyboard so I will be using it for the foreseeable future. What's the best ROM and kernel?
Use it every day, all day. It's my main Android device. Love it and don't see anything else I'd rather have.
I use it every day. Sometimes a lot. As it ages I have become annoyed that my system decided my battery is ruined and so it throttles the SOC pretty badly below ~80% charge and replacement parts are not really available but other than that it's been pretty good to me. I went through 2 magnetic keyboards and both had terrible key repeating problems but I happened to find the folio keyboard at a thrift store and it's been solid ever since. Wish it had GPS, haptics, better touch screen, and exposed more of its hardware to the /sys folder so I could tweak more things with root but that's the ChromeOS blood showing.
Next time I'll go for max storage though. 32gig was a mistake.

Hey I have the same problem. Been using it for 2-3 years and screen cracks have appeared - don't know how actually. Not found anywhere you can find to repair, regrettably. :crying:
i used mine mostly daily for basic stuff. I have a pixel slate and honestly prefer this. I personally have out I dislike ChromeOS and prefer android. I think its way more versatile.
Use mine all the time. Almost don't use my laptop anymore. Even do word processing on it, Microsoft Word for Android, great program. Very lightweight, comfortable to put on lap, and easily transportable. Not an expert, but as far as I can tell best device that I've noticed even today. Not sure what I'll do when these get too old. Still getting updates from Google. Don't understand how this device didn't get popular. The Google colored line probably should have been in the shape of a G. Hard to tell what brand it is so losing advertising at coffee shops. Search key on keyboard not necessary. Should have been another key, like caps lock. Delete button would have been nice. Has some problems, but overall very nice device and should have been developed. No demand for it I guess for whatever reasons.
I also use mine all the time. Most of the time for basic things like Netflix, reading/annotating pdfs, reading ect. But sometimes also for multitasking, like code reviews and stuff. The best tablet I ever used!
Of course. Nearly every day.
I still use it, bought it as soon as released.

So far as I know a new battery is the only way out of this problem.* Apparently they are out there on the internet to buy. But it looks like the repair is pretty challenging to pull off without breaking the screen.
*Maybe a root solution could be cooked up but the Pixel C does not conform to most other Android systems so pre existing solutions don't often work well.
