You need to install a custom recovery for it. Use either ChronoKernel or Ace2nuter

You could use either.
If you are not sure, use latest ace2nutzer kernel. It's supposed to be easier.

go to mounts and storage and select "unmount /data" and then try backing it up. If this works then there should be no MD5 error

Use Mad Team's CWM or Skin's. I had the MD5 mismatch error when I was using Galaxy Mini's CWM from Rom Manager.

MaFei D5.0(Made By Chinese)(1.29.708.9)
But I've tried to flash few other ROMs but still have the same problem,
And If I turn off my phone again after reboots, it won't reboot again until I do so.
It's the recovery. When I switched to TWRP on my One X it stopped happening.

No, ROM Manager is an app, while CWM is a recovery.
You can install the app called ROM Manager and within it you'll find the option to flash the latest CWM recovery.

Right, this is for the case when I am soft bricked and can't boot into cwm. I am able to reflash the cwm and bring everything back but now I just need the newer version so that I can install from external SD.

All it takes to install cwm is a simple dd command with root access. This is what ROM manager does for you. Or you can install it manually using terminal editor

That doesn't look like a recovery problem, the recovery was able to start the flashing process but there was a problem with the zip file you are trying to flash that's why it said "(bad)".
Either the zip you are trying to flash is not correctly signed or supported by the recovery, or the zip itself is corrupted or was not made correctly.
There might be a problem with the updater script of the zip.

Install latest version of Philz recovery or if you want to safely format, use stock recovery -- it's the best.
