New Pixel C but quality issues - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I received my Pixel C this past Thursday and have been using it. I have noticed some quality issues though now with a weekend of use. I have a gap in the corner by the power button and the screen. Not big enough to fit a finger nail but it will fit 3 posted notes thick in the gap. It runs about 3in down starting at that corner. Another one I ended up noticing just this morning while using it without the keyboard is that when holding it land scape and touching the screen about 3in from the left and 3in up from the bottom the screen makes a clicking noise every time. Just in that one spot. If I move a even a 1/4in any direction but that spot it doesn't happen. I don't even have to push that hard to cause it.
I love everything about this tablet so far but these two things really bug me. What has been the success rate at getting an RMA for things like this? Will they send me a new tablet first and then I can send mine back or do I have to send mine back and be without it for a few days?

IMO the click is a design flaw, every Pixel C I've had (I RMAd mine once) and basically read about has this click.

I'm on my second with the gap between the screen and case below the power button. Not great

Theses complaints of the tiny gap are pretty nit-picky, IMO.
I work on tons of devices as a part of my day job and you come to accept that there is a certain level of variation in literally everything. Nobody will notice that tiny gap but you and it literally does not affect the function of the device. I've seen plenty of apple products with the same kinds of inconsistencies.
Yes, these devices aren't cheap... but they're not a to be taken for granted either. My Pixel C has these gaps, and I still am enjoying the hell out of it. We are privileged to have such easy access to such awesome things nowadays.

@Yadao, it's still a wonderful device, but there's no reason to accept poor build quality where one section does not fit with another. It should be às flush as it is around the rest of the screen. Anything less is faulty.

Hmmm if other have this gap even after RMA maybe it is not even worth trying then and is just an issue with the power button area.

I don't think it's a design flaw, as noone would plan for such an issue and mine does not have it at all! What I do have, however, is a nasty yellow splotch in the corner where the charging port is located. Got the RMA confirmation today and while I find Google's customer support in Germany is admirable, I'm not so impressed with the quality control of the Pixel C.

Not sure if this is the best thread to post this in but I didn't really feel it appropriate to start a thread on this.
Based on what I've read everything seems to be working well with the Pixel. I'm considering buying one but I've got one reservation: It uses an Nvidia SoC. I've struck out on multiple tablets using Nvidia chips - TF201 (Tegra 3), TF701 (Tegra 4), Nexus 7 (Tegra 3?) and most recently Nexus 9 (Tegra K1). Each tablet performed extremely well out of the box. I was very pleased for the first few months but eventually the "jank" came in. With the Asus tablets it was blamed on NAND flash speeds and other issues. I don't know what the excuse is for either Nexus' but my 9 stutters harder than my Snapdragon Nexus 7 2013. So far the only tablet to stand the test of time is my 2013 Nexus. The common theme here is Nvidia chips.
I'm looking for some level of assurance or confidence that this tablet won't go the route of my previous tablets with Nvidia chips. Obviously user experience right now doesn't tell me a lot because my tablets ran great for a while. Does anyone have any technical knowledge to clarify the issues with my previous tablets and explain what will keep this one from degrading the same way?

Mine has started to reboot randomly since there last MM update :-\ will RMA potentially refund if it doesn't go away.
I'm feeling a bit meh about this tablet seems a lack of development going on...might just refund and grab a surface 3 pro.

You don't seem to be the only one suffering from that problem. To be fair, the Surface 3 Pro costs more than twice as much as the Pixel C. Same here, running today Android N preview 3, never had any hardware or quality issues

I have the exact same clicking screen issue on the Pixel C that I received, sounds like it is in the exact same place as well. I contacted Google and they sent out a replacement without any questions and guess what, the replacement has the same problem only even louder, certainly seems like a design flaw and don't know whether I should bother trying for a 3rd unit.
On a side not my first replacement was lost in transit and Google customer service was terrible in dealing with that so hope nobody else gets faced with the same problem

My experience has been similar to most in this thread. I ordered the 64 GB version.
Device 1 - Worked fine initially, and then I noticed the clicking noise/tactile sensation on the left hand side of the device. I contacted Nexus support through chat and was sent a replacement unit no questions asked. When Device 2 arrived I began evaluating the two to decide which to keep. However, suddenly Device 1 began having severe display issues. Namely, the right hand side of the screen started showing a smeared jumble of pixels during boot up. Once booted up if I tapped the right hand side a few times the display would update to the current display then freeze again. This rendered the device unusable. Therefore for better or worse I had to use Device 2.
Device 2 - Out of the box I found Device 2 to have a loud clicking noise near the power led strip. I could actually feel the case flexing/clicking as well. Thankfully after a full charge that noise went away. Of course the left hand side of the device had the same clicking noise as Device 1. I contacted Nexus support over chat, and found them to be much less accommodating this time. I was told that the clicking noise was a part of the design and that it had no affect on the performance/quality of the device. I explained that I had a hard time accepting that considering the first device's touchscreen/display failed me shortly after I noticed the clicking noise. I requested a supervisor/manager contact. Initially the manager towed the same line and refused to do anything for me. I reiterated time after time that a 600$ device should not have case flex/popping noises. Finally I was offered a third replacement with the caveat that it could very well have the same clicking noise. This lead me to believe that the issue is widespread and google doesn't care much to fix it. I accepted the offer for a third device as long as I was assured the device would be NEW and not a REFURB/RETURN.
I'm currently awaiting the arrival of Device 3. I also have a Lenovo Miix 700 (Core m7, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) I picked up from Costco for 799.99 which I am considering. If the third Pixel C has issues I may just stick with the Lenovo.
I also tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro S, but I found the keyboard/case's two positions to be unacceptable. Neither was comfortable for me, and the 4GB of ram with a core m3 was just not enough power for Windows 10 IMO. A shame considering the fit/finish was exceptional and the display was awesome.
In the end I may end up waiting for a new Surface model which features Type C, or a better Android tablet.
To those of you who have Pixel C units without clicking I an envious because other then that I really like the device. Though I am still puzzled by the lack of GPS/NFC functionality.

HTC OneV -2 month experience (The good, bad and ugly)

This is my first post. HTC one V is the first smartphone that I owned. I got it through a relative from Malaysia in April and to tell the truth I was hooked.
The Good: Excellent looks and finish and a brilliant display was things that are a bargain at this price range. Combine that with a fluid interface, excellent battery life for a smartphone (i got about 36hrs once) and tethering support it was real good.
The Bad: But as everything else out there there are the lows. First is the camera- everything is good except for the image quality. Looking at the images on the phone screen can be deceiving (display is that good). On a larger computer screen or print the images look just average. The colors look artificial and may often look over softened (clear once you zoom the image). Samsung galaxy ace and sony xperia mini series (both have 5MP cameras) are miles ahead in image quality. Sound quality is good but not the best. Placement of charger port was also odd. Except for the camera other things can be forgiven including the non-existent Compass !
Ugly: Now to the hardest part - complaints. First time i switched on the phone I noticed yellow patches on display on the left side bottom and top corners. Clearly visible on startup screen, browser, documents, ebooks etc., (white and grey backrounds). I was thinking whether to send it back to malaysia to claim guarantee and then decided against it for two reasons -
1. patches is not an issue in other screens (except for the plain backround) and can be ignored as it is in the corners (it did not go away even after a months use as some claimed).
2. I was in absolute love with the phone and just could not think of not having it for more than a month if it has to go to malaysia and then come back :silly:
Then last week I was traveling. watched a video clip, listened to some songs attended two calls and then put the mobile in my pocket (more than 40% charge remaining). After about 45mins when I took it out and the phone was simply dead. Nothing could make it switch on. Now I have sent it back to Malaysia with my relative. I really don't know whether they will repair it or replace and when I am going to get it.
So that's the story. I hope I get a good unit back

camera is awesome, and very clear pictures when i transfer to pc.
have friends with differents htc's ranging from the one to sensation and they all envy my new phone.

Loving the phone doesn't make the image better and yes I am talking about the same phone. I agree that the image is very clear, unfortunately there is a difference between clarity and quality.
I never said camera is bad but the quality of image definitely is not up to the mark and may be due to optimizations by the camera software. Look at bright portraits with contrasting colors and you will see colors getting a washed-out look. It just could have been better. You may not see this in landscapes. Or may be I got a bad piece of camera in my set.
But I do agree on one count. The phone is awesome
ive used a spectromitor to calibrate monitor colours to match my phone colour. the real test would be to print one picture and see.
my previous phone is nokia x6,,also 5mp,,i compared camera picture of these 2 phones and i must say my x6's camera is far better than one v
and im facing problems of heating..gaming makes this phone really hot..and i got one time experience of after gaming for 15 mins,, phone got hot,, i leave it for 2 hours,, when i picked it up its still hot,, i put it in the floor to absorb cold and then it cools..
but overall im satisfied with my 1st android phone..the price,, looks and performance

Nokia traditionally is good with camera (hardware). Remember the N-series, and now the N8 and pureview, something that HTC will take a long time to achieve. Check out the blind test on gsmarena comparing pureview to a number of phone cameras and even olympus. It is not a surprise for me that HTC One X came last (actually zero votes!!!).
One V is not much of a gamer, I believe, but a good all-rounder. i am sure you must have admired the display when playing some of those (Temple Run, Angry Birds, Raging thunder). Things just look so ONEderful. I checked out a colleague's galaxy SII. Though AMOLED, it had a heavy bluish tinge, almost like looking through a blue filter. Comparing both these side by side, One V was better in clarity and SII better with the contrast (Not bad for a phone in this range!!) Heating must be due to the aluminium body which conducts heat better than the plastics out there. May be its good for the phone internals (i am guessing here!!).
I am just wondering when I will get my phone back -whether it will be a replacement or repair. just itching to get it back

I like my One V. Is small, handy, has crisp and good sound, also screen is visible in direct sunlight (now we have african temperatures over 30 C, here in Poland). And the phone is much lighter than Evo 3D, which I had earlier.
I love this phone. Very good first android/starter phone for anyone thinking about that.

I have compared my One V to Galaxy Note and i'm so amazed how my One V is look more awesome than that bluish semi-giant screen G-Note
Maybe your pocket got you into the power+vol. up brick - - sounds plausible by your description of pocket brick

I did consider that angle. The position was not suitable for that to happen. I put the phone in my front left jeans pocket, the chin was down and screen facing away from me. In that position both keys (volume and power) comes towards my left with power key to the open part of jeans and volume key away from outside thigh. So, that's pretty much a far stretched possibility. But then as one Mr. Holmes said "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".
And now the replacement unit is too good. No trace of anything yellow. And boy I am happy..except that I have to buy a screenguard again

How long did it take to get your phone back from HTC?
I have a problem with my camera where yellow specs/dots show up on pictures on white backgrounds. I have only seen one other post about this issue on another forum.
I contacted HTC and they said to perform a soft reset and if that didn't work, a factory reset. Both did nothing. My next option is to contact their warranty and repair specialists. Just wondering if its worth it.

Well, it actually took quite a long time, almost 2+ months, but then again it may depend on the country/region you are in. But do read my previous post - I did not give the phone for repair just because it had yellow spots, but it was DEAD. So I did not have a choice.
Next is your second point. HTC is bluffing. The yellow spot is a "manufacturing defect on the LCD screen" which will not go away with any soft or hard reset. Don't waste your time on this, but do make backups. If you purchased the phone recently, DEMAND a replacement immediately from HTC. Check the phone on the spot for any spots before accepting the new piece.
I believe that it is worth to get a replacement even if it takes a month than to live with the thought that what you purchased with your hard earned money which is supposed to be 'quality-checked' before delivery is a defective piece. You certainly did not get it from a factory-seconds store or discount sale. Why should you carry a defective piece?

hey bezbeV, i am malaysian and i am very interested in the one V, but one thing, how do i identify if the phone screen has yellow spot or not..? i heard that those manufactured after april has no such problem ..? is it true...? and where do you think i can get the best price in KL..?

Hi, am actually from India and I got the phone through a relative in Malaysia. I am sorry but cannot help you with the best price place. But as far as yellow spots go, i too heard that phones after april has come rectified. So prefer a set which is manufactured after april by checking serial number on the pack.it will be in the format AANNAAANNNN (N-number, A-alphabet). Prefer something that starts with SH over HT and 'N' at 4th place supposedly give you the manufacturing month (look for a value 5 and above here!). Once you have purchased it, open the set in front of them and check for any yellow spots (visible on white and grey backgrounds). If so return the piece immediately. You are eligible for a replacement then.

HTC One X build quality is abysmal.

I have no idea how any of you guys have a flawless HTC One X. Seriously.
I have had 10 phones. TEN!
How HTC can send this pile of rubbish out is just beyond me. Sure, the screen is lovely. If it's not covered with yellow splodges, or a faulty digitizer. Or the case surrounding it doesn't creak or flex.
I updated my latest and unfortunately not the greatest 10th phone to sense 4.1. And it's great they have got rid of the three dots.
But whatever they doing at their factories, they are not doing much quality checking. Or perhaps they are sticking the screens down with chewing gum.
If anyone asks me "should I buy a HTC One X". Guess what my answer is going to be?
Sure, if you want to spend the next 2.5 months sending your phone back for replacements, spending over £160 in doing so in line rental, telephone calls to your supplier and postage to send it back. Go for it. It's really fun.
So how did you do it guys? Seriously? Or am I thinking that some of you have actually got slight flaws, but are living with them.
I honestly feel like I could get a crate of HTC One X's and there would be 5 or 6 in it that were without any kind of flaws.
I don't need to put on a flame proof suit. I'm sure I'll get jumped on for this post. However, I genuinely do not believe for one moment that there is such thing as a flawless HTC One X.
People can't seem to understand why Samsung is charging ahead with such success with badly designed phones compared to HTC.
Well, now you know why. Because as much as the design of the Samsung is pants, I imagine their build quality is light years ahead of HTC's.
So it depends if you want your phone to look good, or to actually be without build quality issues.
I know which I would rather have. And let me tell you, it's lesson hard learned.
What a pile of crap.
The reason why you're getting so many bad ones is probably because, unless you are going to a store and personally picking your phone out of the new ones, it's probably a refurb. HTC likely doesn't do much QA for refurbs, so you're sorting through phones that have been returned for the same reasons why you returned your phone. In all likelihood, the defective Samsung phones never even leave the factory.
It sucks, but what can you do?
Sorry to say the obvious, but you've had some really really awful luck with your devices if you've managed to go through 10, and all of them with faults that are worthy of a replacement.
If my device has any issues, it's that there is a slight gap around the screen bezel, enough for 1 tiny spec of dust to get stuck in, and tbh, that's the sort of issue I expect from any phone I purchase, I know Samsung don't do any better with gaps between joins in their design, Apple definitely don't. Guess I have a godly HOX or something?
My HOX has one slight issue as far as im aware, and yes im LIVING with it. Its the fault where if I hold it with my Left hand (WHICH I USUALLY DO) I completely or mostly lose WiFi, I can't be bothered doing the squeeze test etc, as this makes it worse. And I know I have the issue, but 10 phones worthy of replacement? Sounds like your more unlucky than the devils *****.

WHAT IS THESE 3 DOTS EVERYONE IS ON ABOUT?!
I know those issues with a big german service contractor of O2. Not HTCs fault directly but very annoying.
They replace broken phones with refurbished ones and save the QC.
First One X had a faulty digitizer after 3 month -> Swap
Returned one had a gap at the bottom where the light shone through, the black plastic around the screen stood up a bit, a rattling vibrator and a bright 2 cm strech where the bottom backlight is situated. -> Swap
Third one now seems technically ok. I can push the glass out if I like to, because it does not really sit tight which is ok as I am a tinkerer anyway and the SIM card holder looks like somebody chewed on it.
They don't want to swap the card holder alone and want the whole phone returned.
I think I will keep it as I guess it can only get worse with a new one. Chewed holder is nothing compared to most complaints here

The 3 dots are a big bar for the menu at the bottom on the screen that show up with some applications that are not yet optimized for Android 4. It's annoying and takes space, but nothing else.
HTC said they solved all the quirks in PRODUCTION. You're getting replacements from your carrier, and you're getting the phones which have been manufactured long time ago (before june or july), because they always hand over the older devices first. They know that some people aren't so aware of the problems and device will eventually find an owner which does not care or know about problem. What you got caught into is the cruel business model.
And that's the reason everyone should insist on picking your phone in the store. I always tell them to show me 5 devices out of the stock and I will inspect them personally (that's a costumer right) for any faults. HOX is not the first device with QC problems, and two owners and friends of mine have zero problems. and if you think samsung is any better, my friend got one in June and chrome plastic around screen started peeling already with his phone always in protective case! plus he cannot get it replaced on warranty because "he himself damaged the device by dropping it".

I understand your frustration though. I went through a very similar thing and only yesterday is it sorted. Unless the wifi issue comes back. I bought the phone on release.

when you say build quality is abysmal it means all the one Xs they make are from the same kind of quality, for example very cheap plastic being etc or they all have a broken screen
this is not true, in fact a flawless One X is very fancy in terms of build and sturdiness
the issue you talk about is not build quality, its quality control, meaning some defected phones are being let out of factory
when you keep getting defected phones (like my luck when i first went to buy it) it means you should change your source
I have bought one x about 2-4 weeks after being released and had no problems with it so far. Probably some series of phone have been faulty or had low quality control .
I'm with the OP.
I don't think it's easy to quantify what the problems are with this phone - or is it indeed the manufacturer?
Here's my story.
First phone - yellow patch problem - wasn't sure about the wifi issue - but the yellow spots sucked.
Within the 28 day period, so got a straight swap with retailer - in my case Tesco mobile partner (2020mobile I think they're called).
In this time I really baby'd the phone - no drops, no hard knocks, no nothing. No screen protector admittedly - but - within this initial 3 week period, the Gorilla glass 2 (ROFL) still picked up fine scratches.
Replacement phone arrived - this one - less yellowing patches - but still enough for me to notice and not want on a phone which is meant to do me for 2 years. Also at this point I noticed the phone had the infamous wifi problem.
Again, really fine scratching appearing on screen.
So - sent back - outside 28 days, so had to be through HTC repair.
After 1st repair - looks like they'd replaced the screen, but not fixed the wifi - plus they'd managed to scratch the camera lense and body when it was in, so, back it went for repair.
It came back with new housing (ie no camera lense scratch or body scratches), but now I'm finding the wifi issue has clearly not been resolved.
This is just completely nuts.
And the fine scratches on my new screen are now starting to show, after about 3 or 4 weeks use - again with me babying it.
Seriously - this phone if it it didn't have these flaws would be great.
But in reality it seriously sucks.
End of my tether.
I also agree with OP
.. to many different and possible defects:
- GPS
- Sensors
- dead pixel
- dust under Display
- yellow spots
- WIFI issues
- Heating issue (differs from model)
- case and display - Quality (not instantly visible after unpacking)
- Bluetooth
... many more
i changed my phone also 9 times, important part:
- different shops
- different serial 23 to 27
and the best of allnce i sent my phone for repair and received a much worse model with two defects on the case
it defect rate is much better in SH /HT 27 but still a lack of quality...
Well, i think some of the defects are not visible to everyone because they don´t use/need the features !!
SGS3 was no option for me - i stick to the HOX - just want a model without lets call it "build" defects or lack of quality control.. the result is always the same for the customer. I messed around with all the problems and still love the phone ... i think for many "ex" HTC customers it was the last HTC phone for a long time ...

Clearly you have grit or something in your pocket then.
Remember - scratches are caused by a harder object, rubbing against the screen. This isn't a manufacturing fault. The screen is not anymore susceptible to scratches than any previous gorilla glass, nor any other standard glass screens.
Either get a screen protector, or find the source of your scratches, ie grit in your pocket and get rid of it. If you have a pouch, could be there is grit in that embedded in the inside fabric layer

This is a fact that has been established. But still refreshing to see it pop up again . But I agree with the OP. When I said goodbye to the HTC sensation XL, the One X was on my priority list, for all the obvious reasons. But then I asked myself: do I really want to go through it again, given that everyone is going through with the One X. The answer is no. Half my "thanks" came from defending HTC in the early launch, but now when I see the complaining posts, I cant be bothered to defend anyone anymore.
Now I feel extremely lucky, having a phone with none of these defects. SH23.
One X to rule them all.

Yeah, I think the OP meant 'quality control' or 'reliability'. Not 'build quality' - I'd say if anything, the quality feel of hTCs higher end devices in the hand is second only to Apple. It's my big issue with Samsungs, really - they charge £450 for a device that is made of exactly the same materials, and has had exactly the same amount of thought into the design as a £90 ZTE Blade. Incidentally, my HOX is 'perfect', at least for now - they do exist.
However, for the bootloader unlocking/warranty invalidation nonsense hTC have been preaching, even if I hadn't heard so many bad things about the One X, I'm never going to buy another device from them or advise others to. Kind of a shame when devices like the Desire and Desire Z were so damn good.
I bought my hoz, from singapure, using eBay. Its perfect, but I will choose all my entery life a broken hoz than a good sg3. A lot of my friend from my country got 20 time their sg3 back, and still changed it, broken glass inside the Box, no light bottons, others dont turn on and so on. As they dont speak english, and as they use sg3 app phone, no modding at all. I will start writing for then in sg3 Forum talking about Samsung sg3 broken glasses and defect software quality.
So that will be a lovely Forum. It will be a good action, cause a love my friends and to help them. I think every hoz uswrs with friends with sg3 problems should do the same.

After playing with the Note 7 for about a week, just came to the conclusion that it's not for me at the present time. Reasons below :
1: Size. I do not like the size. Was hoping it was a little bigger. At least the size on the Note 4 or Nexus SP.
2: Battery sucks for me. Constantly charging.
3: Speaker. Cannot hear it some time if I am in another room.
4: Still no IR Blaster
5: This should maybe be #1 PRICE POINT. $879.00 + high taxes just not worth it. No phone is perfect but "Them Prices way to high Samsung need to CUT IT"!
6: The screen scratches too easily. Fingerprints!
7: Fingerprint Sensor. You have to press the button. Plus, I have gotten use to it being on the back.
8: Touchwiz still lags.
Great phone in every other way. But the "wow" factor is missing for me at this price. The Note is really the best built phone out right now. This is a really hard decision. Some valid points but some are just nonsense....
You purchased the phone knowing the price and that it has no IR blaster so why does it now affect your purchase?
The finger print sensor has nothing wrong with it. Due to your preferences and what you are used to, you are creating this problem.

in a way that when you pay almost 1000 EUR for a device, you expect much more.
and the test period has demonstrated that the device is not up to the expectations.
in other words, the device is overpriced; the price is grossly inflated.
that is evident to most users of previous Note models, even without purchasing it.

The speaker works great for things like giving easily-heard directions while driving in a noisy car. I've never tried listening to a phone from another room. I find they're easy to take with me--fit right in my pocket! For music, I use BT headphones.

I agree with the apprentice. This is exactly what I am saying about this thread as half of the things mentions are already known before purchasing or just common sense....it isn't a valid reason to then say the phone is a flop and you will be returning it.
Its fair enough to say that the battery is a let down or that the phone is scratching badly because we don't know this prior to having the handset. But to say that the glass gets fingerprints? I'm sure all glass gets finger prints unless it specifically says oleo-phobic and that its finger print proof then you don't have a case. Also to say the phone is expensive? yes it is we all know that but for some like myself i managed to get a very cheap sim only tariff and bought the phone outright. Over the course of 2 years it works out at around £35 per month which is the average for a decent handset and tariff.
It's just really number 5 - buyers remorse.

Isn't the screen smaller due to 0,1" going AWOL at the edges? So you have 5,5" flat estate and the rest is in the curves? It makes the phone smaller, but there are many 5,5" flat phones out there.
Advising a case to hide your glorious new phone in, is bad imo. It is just Samsung chose one of the worst materials to build a phone. A fragile front is more than enough. Having a backside that is slippery and accident prone is another.

I agree it would be nice to have 0.2" more of usable screen but that would make the phone much wider and harder to handle.
We all know full well that Samsung were pushed into making their phones better looking and innovative. Journalists, bloggers and even guys like us moaned like hell about plastic or faux leather materials and boring designs. They were losing market shares and they needed to act. So they introduce glass and aluminium, they slim down the whole phone and do an amazing and well received job of making the phone look very sexy, and very different to all the other flat slabs out there. We all say yes! Good job! Samsung is now back on the ball, they sell very well and everyone is happy.... But as is always the case of impossible to please everyone... we get those complaining that they lost the removable batteries and the phone is all slippery and fragile and "I will never buy Samsung again... yada yada" But curved screens, glass and aluminium are here to stay for now because they sell and that is what Samsung is in this game for.
If you want to buy into all that and a lot of us do, then yes, a case is pretty much necessary. And to be fair the cases that Samsung offer really do ensure the phone still looks amazing. And if you need to have better protection there are alternatives.
Im returning mine due to some pink spots on the right side of the screen but not for a refund but for 1 to 1 exchange
Returning mine because its much slower then my note 5. Installs literally take twice as long. It makes no sense.

Oh, yes I do agree Samsung was led astray when all the reviewers were whining about plastic phones and the Hansaplast S5 wasn't the best design they could make. Yet plastic is one of the best materials for a phone. It is light, scratch resistant, doesn't block signals or wireless charging and can be made in all colors and shapes. They got it wrong with the yucky feeling S3/S4/Note 2. After the S4 slipped out of my hand again, I got the Note 3 almost as soon as it was available. The faux leather stitching on it is bad, but the back cover gets the job done. After almost three years of use it has zero scratches and it is very grippy. Same as the N4. It survives my wifes handbag for almost two years now, which is no small feat for a phone. I was waiting for the N5, but if I wanted it, it needed parallel importing. That was too much hassle for a slippery phone with no SD-card, small, non-replaceble battery and glass everywhere.
The N7 is better than the N5, but I'll need to think long and hard if and when I'm going to buy it.

This is a Major No No for me, I swap SD card regularly,
in older models it was as easy as 1, 2, 3. (Pop the real case open, eject SD card, insert SD card, done)
I'm not happy at all with the Note 7 mainly due the lack of root, I could have overlooked some of the transgression listed above, but not having root, makes the phone useless to me.

Hi, Learn, if you listen to the naysayers on any forum you would never leave the house and certainly never make another purchase, not even have a hair cut. The Note 7 is a bloody good mobile. Buy it, experience it, if you don't like it you have 14 days to return it so someone else waiting for it can enjoy it. :highfive:

I have to disagree with a lot of things you have listed here. Especially as you claim fast charging is fake! Even if it wasn't as fast as you liked you can't simply dismiss it as fake. Before buying the phone you must have known about the SD card slot - where else could it go and still retain good water resistance?
But the whole thing about rooting is premature. How many new high end devices are rootable in the first couple of weeks of release? We have hit dead ends before regarding rooting but then someone finds a way through. But if you want it rooted today then I guess that's your reason for dismissing this phone. It makes me wonder why you bought it before looking into this particular issue.
May seem strange to most of you guys but the lack of IR blaster kills it for me. I use it on my note 3 all day everyday. Air-conditioning at work and at home. My TV and set top box. My fan. It's such a small piece of tech with so much use. Kind of annoys me that they took it away.

I bought into the hype after watching the live unveil in New York.
I was actually checking out the Nexus 6p, as I wanted a new phone with Root.
in the past Samsung phones used to be a safe bet to get root, but seems like since the S7 the game has changed.
Fast charging is as you said not fast enough, 1 hour charge to only get 60% to 70% is not much improvement over the Note 3 / Note 4 charging, somehow the way I use my phones they can drain the battery faster than it can recharge itself.
So battery packs has always been my friend, as I keep several charged battery packs ready to swap in/out.
Reason why I skipped Note 5, due the lack of battery swap. I decided to give Note 7 a try thinking it should have improved, but nope it's just exactly as I guestimated it would perform, and the educated guess was spot on.
I was not really surprised by the charge speed lack of performance, just the Advertisements, and the Unveil event made it such a huge deal that is was like WOW... but in reality it does not really deliver as advertised.
The charge speed performance is no different than previous generation, phone batteries like Note 3 and Note 4, using a normal 2A charger and a battery charger, my batteries pack are full in about 2 hours aprox same time it takes for the Note 7 using the "fast charge" to reach 100%
The so called fast charge to 50% in 30 min is bogus, I was clocking it, it was more like 45min to an Hour depending if the phone was Off or On... which is pretty much the same rate why it takes aprox 2 hours for 100% charge.
The old Notes 3/4, charges at about the same rate as Note 7, so they are just advertising the same old as new, I don't really see any real improvement over previous model.
With the removal of the option to swap battery packs since Note 5, it makes it even less appealing knowing you'll be stuck without battery until you find a plug.
In Note 3 and Note 4, you simply pop out the drained battery and pop in the 100% charged battery, downtime 60 sec at most to open back cover swap the battery and replace the back cover.
The Note 5 and Note 7 downtime ranges until you find a plug, or you carry one of those external battery top up dongles, not very appealing. I know those are very common with Apple users, and I don't like carrying those bulky USB dongles with me.
Battery life If I'm being conservative and turn off GPS, turn off Bluetooth, and turn off WiFi, I can get aprox 3 hours with Note 7, which is again about the same time I get with previous Note 3 and Note 4.
So the claim for an improved battery life is also bogus advertisement.
I still have about 7 days to keep it, if nothing changes by then, it's going back to the store.
The only nice feature I like on the Note 7 is the Iris scanner, and the 4x MIMO, actually that's the only reason the Note 7 picked my interest, I wanted to see if the 4x MIMO would improve signal quality, in poor reception areas, and it did.
so, of all the hyped propagandas during the live unveil and Ads, only the Iris scanner and 4x mimo actually performs as advertised, everything else, not so much, like the "free" game pack that is not available to people in North America >.< ...like really, advertised live during a new york event, and then they said, or sorry that's not for you.

Screen Crease

Prior to the release of the Galaxy Fold I held a high interest in the device, it looked to be the next evolution in smartphones and in some ways it is on the cutting edge. On an International flight the guy sitting next to me allowed to examine his Fold Device. My first impression was this is pretty slick until I unfolded it. I had suspicions the display wasn't going to be the seamless beauty seen in the promotional videos Samsung distributed prior to it's release. I didn't ask the user how long he had the device but it had only been released a few months earlier. Maybe it's just me but the crease running down the middle of the display is very pronounced and tough to ignore. Here's Samsung's official statement regarding the crease.
"You may notice the crease at the center of the main screen due to characteristic of new Polymer material but it is a normal characteristic of device designed for the Infinity Flex Display. It will not affect the display’s quality"
"You may notice the crease" You'd be blind if you didn't notice it and I'm curious about their definition of the quality of the display.
I held off on acquiring a Fold and happy I did based feedback I've read. Also I was surprised to read Samsung is releasing the Fold Special Edition which is identical to the current Fold for $1,090 USD. That's close to half the price of it at release! A big price reduction is concerning but understandable since the device had a number of quality issues, hopefully Samsung has addressed most of these.
My biggest deal killer is the crease so my question is how bad is it for people using it as their daily driver? Any word the soon to arrive Fold 2 has improved on this obvious blemish? I know if I dropped two stacks on a smartphone I might be hesitant to throw shade on it but seriously, how bad is the crease?

I you have the money and you are fine with the small front display, it will easily be your daily phone.
For me, it's also a perfect desktop replacement, too.
Samsung shipped my Fold 5G with free buds and an assurance for a display replacement with worldwide premium concierge service.

samsung unpacked is coming at the beginning of august. the z fold 2 should be announced there.
you'll have yet another year to think about if you want to drop two stacks or not.

Thanks for the helpful input. With respect to the Display Replacement, any information as to whether or not Samsung would offer warranty replacement for a visible crease? It would seem they won't, implying it's a known defect they can't yet address. That's my biggest issue. Font Size can be increased, in doing so does it alter the symmetry of the entire display composition? Also, which model are you using? I'm leaning towards a Fold 2 variant of the SMF9070.
From my point of view of owning the phone, the crease does not bother me in the slightest, I literally don't even notice it any more. Everyone has mentioned the crease in all reviews and most also say within a day of using it you don't even notice that it is there
I've also added a screen protector to the front screen and the folding screen which keeps it clean and fresh (can be peeled off it needed), I also have the free screen replacement within the first 12 months.
In terms of the quality of the display I can't fault it, colour accuracy is very good as well as low light, it's very easy to view in sunlight as well. The hinge is very solid and I don't feel like I have to baby the device when using it.
You seem more hung up on the crease so just to say again, I literally forget it is there when I am using the device, it doesn't impact the phone at all. A visible crease is not a defect, it's there by design for the folding screen, don't forget this is new technology, it's likely the next few versions will have this crease, maybe it will get slightly better as they go forward.
In terms of font size, I have changed the dpi to 712 in developer setting and that works well for me, that's my sweet spot for using the phone.
With the larger front screen on the Fold 2, I would highly recommend picking that up when it's released. However if you are hung up on a crease on the screen, you might be best just getting say the new Note 20 and sticking with a normal form factor. For new technology, there has to be a small compromise for early generation products.

This is great input, thanks for sharing your experience. As mentioned I did have an opportunity to demo the Fold but it's the only one I've used to date. On this particular device the crease wasn't subtle, it would be difficult for most to ignore. Not sure what the owner's usage patterns are or other measures he may have employed. It's possible he used a screen protector which enhanced the crease, I didn't ask. When the Fold 2 is released I'll spend some time with it. I don't expect a virtually creaseless display but I would be very disappointed if it was similar to the one I've used.
I'm thinking it should look more like the flip which is less pronounced in video; I've not had a personal fondling of either so my view's here are strictly vicarious. I'm pretty sure I'm in though, I talked myself into it for round one but eventually bailed out with the delays. This time I'm hopeful the launch wont give me enough time to get antsy and I'm make it to pay dirt. Just got to find out about root...
I have had the fold for months, there is a crease, doesn't bother me at all, your mileage may vary!
I have the Fold and I never see the crease when used in front of me, you only see it when you're about to close it looking at it on an angle. It's not a problem at all, and trust me I'm very fussy with smartphones. It's not a deal breaker.

Question Upgrading to Fold 5.

Might be early, but whom will be doing that?
I will first have a look at the new Pixel Fold, compare it with the Fold 5 and decide then.
Fold 5 could be the choice, if the pen is integrated in the device and battery capacity is improved.
There's no hurry ...
Only reading the rumours (and I totally appreciate they are only rumours) that it is going to be a be a very similar device to the fold 4 with only a hinge change I'm not going to bother. To me, it's not worth paying the premium again.
I'm still really enjoying my fold 3 and it serves me very well. I've not noticed any slow down or battery drop off.
The pixel fold was tempting but I occasionally use the s pen, which I think I would miss. And given Samsung haven't failed the Fold3 with software or security updates I'm not too bothered.
I will miss their camera though!

Yeah, the Fold 5 is gonna have a similar footprint as the Fold 4. However the crease on the Fold 5 will be less noticable and it will have no gap when closed.

To be honest Samsung has put me off of folding anything, as well as Samsung Products. I waited to get a folder until I thought the tech was mature enough, as someone else said , I'm not buying a gen 1 device. I had the S21 Ultra and it was rad. We switched Carriers and I thought the ZFold 3 would be neat, and it was for the first couple of weeks. After showing it off to everyone that wanted to see it and settling in to normal use, I quickly figured out that I had downgraded while spending way more on the device. The folding quickly became a rarely used gimmick, I would say I used it once or twice a week, that's not Samsung's fault, I should have thought more about my own needs and habits. As a bar phone it fell short of the older s21 ultra in every metric that I cared about, that is on Samsung and Me, I should have done more due diligence. What Put me off of Samsung though is how they handled the Warranty. 3 days before my warranty expired the seam in the fold went and the inner screen was done for. Samsung told me to take it to the Asurion repair shop and they informed me that no mater what it was going to be considered external damage, even though I had never dropped it or over used the fold. I had to replace it, even though it was known issue. I have been with Samsung since the Behold 2, I have had so many of their phones and products over the years and its just a bummer. I almost sold our bespoke fridge over it, but its just so pretty. So nah, I dont think Im gonna buy it. Sorry, that rant came out of no where.
I have been put off folding phones because of how I have to really take care when the phone is opened. I had the bubbling issue with the factory screen protector and after visiting a samsung store to see if I could get it replaced they declined, I like my fold 3 and will use it a little longer but think my next phone will be the s24 ultra when that comes out.
That is not always the case. I had the issue with my inner screen protector and Samsung Repair Center in Zurich replaced it at no charge.
They mentioned, it's done for free only once, the next time, I have to pay 50 bucks to get it replaced.

Wow, how do you NOT use the inner screen on this phone?! I very rarely use the outer screen, and am on the inner one all day. Only times I use the outer one is in the car (it is in a wireless charging arm that comes down from the dashboard next to my Android car unit screen), for the stopwatch while using mouthwash (takes up less counter space folded), and if I'm doing something quick (like turning on a Vibe on my Apollo Neuro device) while it is folded for being in my purse or on a wireless charger. I'm glad the outer screen is there, especially for the Always-On screen to see the time, calendar, and notifications, but the inner one is so much better and more useful for everything. A lot easier to type on, too.
I replaced the inner screen protector with the White-whatever one once (there was a bubble creeping along the fold and it no longer had the anti-fingerprint feature) and it was pretty easy to do. Have had this since a few days before launch day. Another year and some months to finish paying it off, so we'll see what's out then for folding phones, but I usually don't upgrade often.

Especially when it has older hardware, like the Pixel Fold. I might forgo the Pixel 8P and go straight for the Fold 2. That's the only way I can justify spending for two phones.
Rather upgrade to Fold 5 versus pixel fold 1.

Im actually considering to upgrade. I soo far love the Fold 3 as it is and its been a wonderful experience soo far. And seeing news and leaked images of the Fold 5 is making me want to upgrade. There is also the Pixel Fold being launched soon to the market and I also heard that Oneplus is working on one already. I thought Ill wait until all these releases and then opt the best out of the lot!
How good are the Fold devices from Samsung? Do you recommend me getting once cause Im really intrigued by them and I want them to be performing well enough too. Are they optimized enough and do they get slow over time? How is the battery performance? Ive also heard about multiple applications not being well optimized to the Aspect Ratio of the phone since the Main has a big screen, how does this affect the UX and what about the gaming compatibilities?
I would love to know about the requested queries!

The best thing for you to do is go into a store and play around with a demo unit to see if it is good for you. As everybodys opinon of the device is different and it is all based on user preference

They are pretty good in my opinion. Ive been using the Fold 3 for a while now and there is no major complaints as such. Like @iceepyon mentioned, its always good to check it hands-on for a better understanding of the device and your liking towards it.

Okay I get that! Nothing beats a hands-on experience on the device itself so yes, I think I will check the device out in real to truly understand if its for me or not.
But since ya'll have been using the Fold on a daily basis for a while, I wanted to know how good it is on a long term and as a daily driver for daily usage and stuff.
