So I normally just close the case cover and it causes the tab to go to sleep. A couple of times when I pull it off the charger, it wont respond to touches at all. And I am forced to hold the power button down until it turns off and then I can turn it back on and it works fine after that.
Has anyone seen this type of issue before.
I have similar issue but during use, without go to sleep. Pixel freezes sometimes and i am forced to do a hard reboot.
Is there a way to get the advanced menu for restarting it vs just powering off?

Yes, if you are rooted, install Xposed then the module gravity box.

I've got a little problem that is draining my battery.
When i press the power button, my screen turns off, but two second later it turns on into the lockscreen.
Already tried a full wipe to look if some app is causing the problem, but nop. it still had the problem.
However the weird thing is that when i use the phone it never turns the screen off. it does sometimes pop up the power menu, but that does not happen often.
I hope someone can help me, because it annoys the heck of off me that i can't even get 7 hours out of my phone w/ minimal use.
Hey guys,

i just tap it, nothing happens...
Do any of you know why it occour? Havent done anything unusual...
Clearly the button works, because I can enter the Power meny...

are you trying to turn the screen off on lock screen? if so just double tap the screen
Is the phone stock or modded (rooted, custom ROM, etc.)?
Did you try to reboot device already?
Sent from HTC One m8, or maybe not anymore

Yes, the first thing I tried.
I'm not completely clear on the issue. If you just tap the power button while the screen is on, it should turn off the screen (which in turn also locks it). If holding the power button until you get the power menu, the choices should just be Power Off, Restart, and Airplane Mode. I don't think there is an option to lock screen on that menu on a stock ROM (and actually no custom ROMs that I know of).
Sorry for the delay on the answers.
It's not that i can't access the power menu, that works fine.
But if you want to lock your screen, you just tap the power buttom and that dosent work.
And I just found out that the screen NEVER shouts down!? It's always on.
When I reeboot the phone, the screen darkens, but all the icons on the desktop is visible and when i try
to tap the screen it acts like its off!?
Can't even think of whats wrong with this now.
The power buttom clearly works, but i can't lock or shout down the screen.
It's like its always on!?
I'm having this exact same issue.
My solution
Obviously this is much too late for the OP, but for anyone who might still stumble on this thread (it is still one of the top hits on Google for this issue), I got mine working again by rebooting the phone, after first disabling fast boot in the settings. (Settings > Power > Fast boot - I should note my phone is the HTC One Mini 2, but I assume the M8 isn't too different in this regard).
I had previously attempted rebooting from the power options (both restart and power off), but this hadn't fixed the problem.

The Fast boot option in Settings was removed from the M8 as of Lollipop.
Even when the M8 had this option, it did not effect "Restart" in power options. At least on the M8, restart is always a try restart; and Fast boot only affected the "power off" condition.
I just did a reboot of my tab and it got stuck at what I call "Black Sceen Crash".
Looks like being switched off - but isn't.
It does react on screen touches with a very brief vibration.
And it gets a litte warm.
Does not react on long pressing power button - so no reboot, no download mode, whatsoever.
Guess I have to let it run out of battery - which might take couple of days with screen off. We'll see.
Any idea what to do or what could have caused that behavior? Any similar experience?
Before trying to reboot there was no mobile connection, and I wanted to reboot to get it reconnected. Otherwise no problem.
I am running stock Samsung ROM, rooted, Skyhigh Kernel, OC/UV.

Yeah, I also discovered long pressing power button alone does not force-reset the device. I managed to reset it though by press-hold Power + Home + Either Vol Up/Down. Give that a try.
I can't remember whether it was the Vol Up or Down, try one then the other if it didn't work first time. Good luck.
After a while (30 min probably) it did not any more react on screen touches and was cold. Off maybe? Still no reaction on long pressed Power Button. Tried Volume Down+Home+Power Button - and fortunately it revived the tablet. Strange. Thanks for the hint!
I face the Black screen of death and the device (T805) was not responding to any reboot, recovery or download mode actions, sent it back to Samsung support and they claim an internal piece of HW need to be replaced, I refused that and asked for refund or new device... After a week I got a replacement device...
I guess the tablet isn't actually powering down, it's just going into sleep mode, or whatever it's called when the screen shuts off. Anyway, is there a way to keep this from happening when the tablet is plugged into the wall charger? It isn't a major deal but it is sort of annoying when I have something large downloading or have the tablet otherwise doing something on its own, but I'm not actively using it. I like to walk by occasionally and check in on things, but will often find that the tablet has shut off. Then I have to turn it back on, swipe the screen, or login if I have security on. Anyway, it would be much nicer if it would just stay on when plugged in. I've looked through the settings and can't seem to find anything related. If it's there, I'm missing it.
Thanks.
There are different between shut off and standby (sleep mode):
1- Shut off: Your tablet is shutdown, the only way to turn it on is power button.
2- Standby: the screen is off, you just need to press power or home button to turn the screen on in 2 seconds. In order to prevent the screen turn off so quickly, you only need to change the screen timeout to 10 or 30 minutes. If it turns off by itself, your tablet has a problem.
Mine can standby a whole week and it only loses a little charge when waking up.

There is no 30 minute screen timeout on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The most I can set it to is 10 minutes, and that's where it's at.
Thanks anyway.

we call that a screen time out... you can activate the stay awake while charging feature in developer option... how to activate developer option.... go to setting -> about device -> and press the Build Number 7 times. you will see something like developer option activate. then find the stay awake while charging option. that's all. :victory:

Super, that's exactly what I was hoping for...
...once I get my completely screwed up tablet running again...
I'm starting another thread.
Thanks!
So the power button of my Pixel 2 XL is unfortunately dying. Sometimes it works a few times and then a button press does nothing. It also triggers easily a double press (noticeable because that starts the camera) when tapping it only once. Gets really annoying when you think you have powered it off but it is still powered on in your pocket...
Are there any ideas how to fix the issue without opening the device? I don't want to open the device by myself after I ****ed up my Nexus 6 after a battery swap.
Any workarounds for the problem? Currently I use Novas remapping of the home button for power off but that is not really comfortable because you have to leave the current app for that.
Different roms have different options that may partly help. Often they are at settings/system/gestures.
For wake, use fingerprint. For sleep, set a very short timeout, or see if you can find a rom with double-tap to sleep option. If camera starts at the wrong time, disable the camera quick start.
But none of this will help you if the phone is really turned off. Can you really live with not knowing whether you can start the phone if it runs out of power?
I will look into some of the options. I'd like to stay with the stock rom though (but I have root if that helps).
The button is not that broken. If I press really hard I can always get it to work again, so I have no fear it won't power on again.
