UPDATE:
Also after updated to latest rbox prerooted rom i could install settings.apk.
/system/priv-app/Settings/Settings.apk chmod 644
Other things installed were busybox / xposed / daydream/Deskclock for changing picture screensaver to normal clock.
Due to the fact it is not in recent apps u might start it via firestarter or es file explorer.
please reply to this post if someone else has managed to get this also working.
--------------------------------------------------
For all that want to use the native Settings.apk.
just install this one:
put settings.apk somewhere on your sdcard. use any desired filemanager (i prefer es file manager) just klick on it and then on the button install.
it should work and visible in my apps and firestarter.

I'm also working in getting the old Wallpaper back like on old ftv.
Stay tuned.
Greetings
schybiorz
So how do you get this working then? Or have you just put this up randomly without testing or explaining the process? Cause I've tried pushing to all sorts of places & even resigned the apk but still as per usual nothing happening or even showing in the appsame section?
just copied it with es filemanager from sd card to System/priv-app changed permission and open it via firestarter.
also i tried about 8 different ones till i got the working one from custom nvidia shield 5.1 rom working.
only audio/language and developer menue wont open.
but i installed basic dreams and got rid off the wallpaper screensaver and replaced by clock.

I can't even see the settings app In firestarter? I've tried signing the apk, not signing it? Putting it in various different locations, & even putting it in a folder? Can you not give us more info?
I'm rooted on rboxs prerooted 5.0.5 r4 & have xposed & have googleplay running too if any of that makes any difference?

u can also just go onto your sdcard and install as normal app. should work.
it should be visible in firestarter as settings. even visible in app library.
See screenshots
Also i'm on latest rbox prerooted 5.0.5 r4 & have xposed & have googleplay running too.
If you don't mind could you tell me if its in a folder & the name of the folder & what's the name of the settings app & what are the permissions set at? Cause this is bugging me now?

that's really strange.
i also installed some other standard rom stuff, but i can't imagine that someof them might be needed before installing settings.apk
but these things from stock i also installed:
Basic dream
deskclock
livewallpaper
livewallpaperpicker
launcher2
i'm also trying to get normal systemui.apk working, cause amazon has build their own AFTVSystemUI.apk as i see.

Still no go, I also made the jump to 5.0.5.1 this morning, reinstalled xposed too, & busybox, I made a folder called Settings in /system/priv-app/ then changed The permissions of the folder to rw-r-r & put the settings apk in there & made that rw-r-r too & rebooted, settings does not show up in firestarter? & even looked in hidden via firestarter but not in there? When I click on the apk it says install failed

i went thru the same thing of trying all different versions of settings.apk with no luck. I needed to enable location settings so watchtnt could work on my firetv. I ended up installing AnyLocation on both my ftv1 and ftv2 and it works great. Ftv1 unrooted had to enable mock location settings thru adb, and the ftv2 rooted I could enable Advanced version in the app and it would enable mock settings for me.
Has anyone version for aftv 1? Thx!

so i removed friendstream.apk because of forcecloses and htcfacebook for sense i got the apks from a stock rom and used root explorer to mount and paste the files into the /system/app folder so theyre there, but i dont see the apps or widgets but when i try to install them using the app manager on android it says its already installed, any ideas? thanks!
im using damage control 3.2.3 with a custom kernel for damage control 3.7.1, thanks!
Leave them on your sd card and then try installing them using your file explorer.

when pusing them to /system/app with root explorer you have to change the permissions of each app you copy over (hold select the app and choose change permissions) i just check off all of the permissions thingys
when pushing through adb it does that automatically
hope that helps
the default ones are all can read and user can write plus read
Thread moved to Q&A.
yea i checked all the permissions and used adb before and still not showing up, lol really frustrating
any ideas guys, really miss friendstream lol
An easy way to fix permissions is through ROM manager.
Download it in the market and select fix apk permissions.
That might do the trick..
Don't forget to reboot.
yea tried that doesnt work, really weird
Very strange, did you try an adb install? Rather than push..
Could someone post the allshare app that comes with the galaxy s2 on here? I just flashed a miui rom but no longer have allshare.
Thanks in advance
Hope this helps

you need to put it in your system/App folder using root explorer and set permissions, it can't be installed using a package installer
I've tried this method on my GS2 with the provided file and I just can't get it to work. It did work with the MicrobesGl live wallpaper though.

I deleted the DigitalClock widget by accident. I know there's plenty in market, but I liked the stock one. Anyway, I have the .apk, moved the .apk to /system/app with Root Explorer and changed the permissions (now it's rw-r--r--). But still, when trying to install, the message "Application not installed" appears.

when the app is moved into the system/app folder it is then installed, no need running the .apk through a package installer because youll just get the "Application not installed" error, this is because your trying to install a system app which is what the apk is and not a standard installable app.
once moved into the system/app folder and permissions set, check your widgets if not there do a reboot then check again, if its still not there then your doing something wrong or setting the wrong permissions.
If it's not installing, could it be because it's a Samsung app? For example the stock camera, phone and messaging apps just won't install when I'm on CM7. So I'm assuming the same is true for Allshare, though I may be wrong.

Samsung apps will only work on Samsung ROMs unless modded to work on ALL Android devices just like any other app specific to any other ROM
The app in this thread is odexed and for thus wont work with most ROMs as these are deodexed.

Hey guys,
This is my first time using an Android device so I am not experienced with the Android Market but this seems messed up.
I am using the Android Market on a rooted Kindle Fire. When I try to download any app (free or otherwise), it shows at 'Downloading'. The app will not actually download until I go online with my PC to the Android Market and choose to download the same app. Once that happens, the app shows up on my Kindle Fire.
Is this normal or is there some sort of setting that I need to tweak? Thanks
Also .. is there any way to make the Android Market the default market rather than the Amazon market?
For example, when I go to install a Dolphin HD plugin, it looks for it in the Amazon Kindle Market which doesn't work because I'm in Canada.
Use a different market app. Vending.apk gave me same problem, com.amarket.apk didnt.
Should say version 3.3.1.1 I believe.
And no,c ant changed default market yet.

You cannot directly side-load the market apk because it will go to Data/App and not System/App. Go to the the Tools > Applications setting on your KF and then select 'Show All Applications'. Go to Market and click clear data. See if you can deinstall. If not, You'll need to use Root Explorer (or similar), delete the old apk from Data/App. Using Root Explorer, copy the market 3.3.1.1 apk from your SDCARD location and then navigate to System/App. Set the mount to R/W. Paste the 3.3.1.1 apk to the system/app folder. Long press on the newly pasted market apk and change permissions to match other system/app or just give it all permissions for now. Reboot the Kindle and you should be fine.

I followed someones ( sorry don't recall who to give credit to) advise on this. Using root explorer, navigate to /system/app and add .bak to the MarketIntentProxy.apk worked to automatically take market links to market instead of amazon appstore.

Long time lurker first time poster here.
I recently bought a Zeki 7" TBD753B. I would like to obtain root and install google play however I can only find firmware for other model numbers. Does anyone know if it exists? The only thing I can find on this tablet is a warning not to buy, however I have not experienced the wakeup bug stated in the only other thread mentioning this model and the device seems to work quiet well for the cheap price.
Im mostly looking to get adfree working being as ads do slow this device down.

That is the million dollar question. So far my answer is, you can't. First you'll need root access, I described that above. Put crystal zip on SD card, do not unzip file. Shut tablet down. Boot by holding volume down and power buttons. Should enter recovery, select update from EXT, select crystal file, then reboot now, you will see android updating message and then have superuser and busy box installed. That gets you about 50% there. I have tried to flash gapps without luck using the correct files. I believe the problem with this device to be the firmware. It's for ICS. I am thinking about rolling back OS to 4.0.3 and trying from there. The TBD782 is almost identical, thinking of trying a modded ROM I found in XDA forums. Basically that gets you to where I am. I believe the device is actually a momo9 variant/clone with allwinner a10 compatible chip. The manual I downloaded from above manufacturer (I can't post links yet) is identical to the TBD753B. You can also get a working version of livesuit from them. Hope any of that helps. I will report back when I have a working method.
Thanks for the replies. Please let me know when you figue something out.

I tried a search for crystal root zip and could not find on the xda site but did find a link using google but am not sure it is legitimate. Where on the forum can I find the link so I know it is the correct file? Also I was able to install Google Play on the TB782B without using a custom Rom. I used Links2SD. I installed a copy of the play store apk and then converted it to system app using Links2SD, rebooted and then it worked fine. Without converting it to system app it would not work properly but once converted it worked fine. Maybe this will work with the newer model.

TBDB763B (with bluetooth)
I recieved the root from Zeki tech support
Build no 4.1.1 20121204
Root Flash with recovery Vol- and Power button
Copy the update zip into sd card
Insert the card into the tablet.
Hold vol - and press power button to go to recovery.
Release the vol- button once you enter recovery
navigate with vol button , and power to select
select apply update from ext
Select the update zip you copy earlier
once its done reboot
Vending for Google play store
the tablet is google ready you can install the vending.apk (aka google play store) just by simply tapping it without root. (wont survive factory reset)
Manual way to install google play with root (this will survive factory reset)
use file explorer/manager ie.. ES file explorer, Root file explorer etc
You can use any file manager that you want and
ITS A BASIC ANDROID KNOWLEDGE you need to mount the system folder into writable before copying or change permission
copy the vending apk into system/app and change permission into RW R R
and important REBOOT.
UPDATE
Due too many emails
let me try to explain as basic as possible
ZEKI tablet already has Google Services Framework installed you dont need to re-install it again.
If you install Google Play store by flashing Gapps zip make sure it doesnt include Google Services Framework APK on the zip files.
Otherwise you will encounter too many FC later on. Dont ask me about GApps.zip since i dont use those methods.
In order for you to access, copy or modify into/on system folder
you need to enable or mount the system folder as writable and your phone/tablet need to be rooted
You can use any file manager apps you want
ie.. ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, Astro File Manager or etc
Below is example for ES file explorer
Tap options
tap settings
Scroll down and select Root Settings
Put a Check mark for Root explorer and mount file system
You have to figure out with the file manager apps you use how to mount the File System as writtable
I dont know every single apps there
Try to GOOGLE it.
proper procedure
Thanks so much for the help! As for the update.zip can I do what I usually do and just go into settings/about tablet/system updates and update from there with the update file on the root of my sd card? And for the google apps I just copy it over to my tablet and just install after doing the update? Thanks again for your time.

Limit your posting to one forum only,
Posting in multiple forums for the same question are confusing.
From the pictures it looks like you have corrupted files.
re-download it again the vending apk MD5 is 14BEBEC455594BD71C47B6F57164CA91.
and again I ask you What is your firmware.

No need to get all headstrong. I posted in two places because theres two threads. I didnt create the threads. And i know all about this stuff man, my download isnt corrupt, i tried copying over a different vending.apk, and it looks the exact same. So, thats not the problem.
The firmware just says (Build number) ZEKI 4.1.1 20121213, I dont see any other firmware number anywhere?
I appreciate you uploading the files needed for this. I dont appreciate u telling me to limit my posts though. Lol. Theres 2 threads. :what: And i didnt ask the same question, or say the same thing in both threads.
Anyway, ill figure it out. Thanks again for the root, and google play.

Attach here are
Root for the Jelly bean zeki
TBD753B

This worked great, if your having problems with the permissions, see how another file in system/apps has it's permissions set, using root explorer click on another file name, then permissions..it will show you how to properly set it for the vending.apk.

Its es file explorer that was giving me problems. Ive never used it in the past, so.....i got rid of it, and used 4shared to swoop up rom toolbox. Got it on the first shot with rom toolbox.
My suggestion........use rom toolbox. It sets proper permissions for the user automatically.

just install via cwm. for sure do a backup before.
i'm not responsible if something went wrong, with this installation.
ALSO Do A BACKUP of your original Framework-res.apk!!!
Also don't forget to install Gallery.apk or livewallpaperpicker, else it is not possible to select any wallpaper.
so after a factory reset i wanted to try it again.
sems that i might have installed some other parts from another rom, like systemui.apk-

What is the difference between the two downloads? I downloaded the first one, but have to wait an hour before I can download the second one. Should I install the second one and not the first?
I'm having trouble installing this with CWM. I have my system and data mounted to an external drive and CWM doesn't access it. It keeps saying folder not found, then it reverts to what I assume is the original internal data folder on the FTV itself. I'm not sure how to access this internal folder now using a file explorer. Any thoughts that don't involve messing with unmounting my external drive?
**Edit** I manual replaced the framework-res.apk using root explorer, then realized I needed to install your second files as well and now it works prefectly! No more black background for me. I've got a spinning galaxy and stars!
Thanks for the work on this!
That are good news,
thanks for reply....
now i also got rid, of some amazon apps. now have around 127mb /system free storage.
removed ftvlauncher, whisperplay, gamecircle, demomode and a few other things with titanium backup.
also stock launcher switcher worked now when press homebutton. Can someone pm me a few aosp 4.2.2 stock files from settings app and from tablet? i get crashes in settings.apk maybe i have to install a few more stock apks, that don't come with aftv in stock.
btw. Tabletui is working with adb shell am display-density 240
settings.apk is in splitscreen (crashes in different accesses). played around with some themed xposed modules and lolipop theme.
will try the next weeks, till i got my setup finished ^-^

That is cool that you're testing the limits. Tonight I plan to make a video about my setup. I've used a lot of the various mods/tweaks available for the ATV and have a kick ass setup.
Manually?

so just push the framework-res.apk to sdcard and replace it w/ the one in the system folder? because I did the install via cwm to no avail and I installed the 3 apks in the background.zip manually
be sure mount /system in cwm manual. should work, or replace it manually via fileexplorer and to be sure
chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
and don't forget to have a backup via cwm to be safe...

I am curious what Amazon apps you've removed and what other mods you've done. Can you update what you've been up to with the FTV?
I only made a backup of all amazon apps, i might to remove, with titanium backup before i uninstalled them.
f.eg. amazon app store, circle, movie, mp3, photo (installed gallery2.apk from a 10.1 cm stock rom) installed clock.apk from rom to exchange amazon screensaver and replaced it with a clock. but i messed to much around, so i had to go back to my backup i generated with cw recovery
also deodexed apps and framework files to get a little more space on sys. also deleted files under vendor/amazon (here are the overlay-files stored.
sadly i'm out of time for this week to extend my tsteing in getting a full settings.apk working wich i had before i messed up while replacing all system apks from a cm 4.2.2 rom

That screenshot looks awesome! I want to try it when I have time. But I also noticed you have ROM manager installed. I never even thought about using it, probably because I have twrp on my other devices. How's it working for you? Are you able to use the stock remote?
That's a much better option than plugging in a USB keyboard every time you want to do something in recovery.
Took me a while to get it straight, but below are my simple instructions for us that aren't fluent in all things Android...
Download schybiorz's files from this thread.
http://uploaded.net/file/8awolkyk
http://ul.to/oqs87yb6
Extract "framework-res.apk" from the zip file in the first download above. Copy the "framework-res.apk" file to your FireTV. I used AGKFire.
Extract and install the apk's from the second download above. You can just click on them from ES File Explorer if you've pushed them, or use AGKFire or whichever method you use to sideload apps.
I also installed the "Gallery.apk" file, downloaded from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953999
Backup your FireTV "framework-res.apk" file. I used Root Explorer from the Play Store. Navigate to the /system/framework/ directory and copy "framework-res.apk" to your sdcard somewhere to save as a backup.
Connect to your FireTV using adb from your computer and type the following commands:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb connect [FireTV IP Address]
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/AGKFire/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
exit
exit
Then, just reboot your FireTV. Take note, in the cp (copy) command above, the copy-from location (where I have AGKFire) needs to be where you have the apk file on your FireTV. So if you have it in the root of the sdcard, the command will be as follows:
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
I tried to flash schybiorz's zip file using cwm, but for some reason, it didn't replace the "framework-res.apk" file, which is why I did it manually as indicated above. I also didn't do a cwm backup, so proceed at your own risk.
I use Nova Launcher, so I have to use a mouse to pick wallpapers from LiveWallpaperPicker or the Gallery, but live and static wallpapers work wonderfully now though!

Needed this!!! Thanks for the detailed instructions, because I tried before using a mouse I copied the original framework-res.apk and put it in another folder, then pushed the downloaded framework-res.apk to sdcard...but got an error when copying the downloaded one. so now I guess I can just go ahead and run the command cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk and it will copy it?

You will have to enter the commands as I listed them...well, as far as I know. I did quite a bit of Googling. You must make the system directory writeable, which is the reason for the "mount -o rw,remount /system" command. Then, the chmod command sets the permissions once you have copie the modified framework over.
But I did just notice that someone made a xposed wallpaper enabler module in the 'FireTV Themes and Apps' forum. Which may be the better way to go...easier anyway.

Important is the fact, that the wallpaper service is enabled in framework-res, wich is now easy done via xposed-module ^-^
