Hello all!
Here's some back story. I busted the screen on my trusty VM SPH-L710 the day before I had to go travel for work. I hastily ran into the nearest wallmart and bought what I thought was a replacement not knowing it was a tri-band model or that the Data Done Right junk was any different. Two hours of phone calls with VM later I have a working stock, bloatware filled, janky phone...I immediately rooted it and installed an OctOS rom on it....again not knowing the Data Done Right phones are any different than any other SPH-L710 phones.
So this is the state I'm in now:
I have a beautifully running phone with both the OctOS 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 builds.
The 6.0.1 build I have working cell and mms. No data at all.
The 5.1.1 build I have working cell, mms, and 3G. No LTE at all and the 3G is a little flakey if you don't have it set to 3G for the network type.
My stock backup restores and the phone appears to have LTE....but it also seems to be missing all of the apps, constantly says random things have stopped, eventually locks up and wont boot a second time. Basically my backup isn't any good.
I've spent the last few days searching around and I can't seem to find any good info on the Data Done Right S3. I haven't even really found anyone else posting anything about doing the same thing I've done and ending up in this state. So this is kind of a shot in the dark looking for any info or help.
What would be super awesome is a stock VM DDR rom that I can restore to at least get back to that...then I'll just give the phone to my sister or something (yes I think the stock phone is that bad).
What would be even better is some knowledge on how to get one of the other SPH-L710T roms to work with the DDR plan.
What would be sad is if I have to tear the screen off this phone to get my old SPH-L710 working again (I'm just assuming the screens are the same) and see if I can move my account back to a regular VM plan.
Thanks for any help.
Me too!
I have the exact same issue. As of 6.0.1 it's no longer possible to use OctOS (data is down completely).
I am on 5.1.1 for the forseeable. The data is a little slower but that's not a big deal for me since I can rarely get 4G anyway, and the phone is soooo much better without bloat. I tried applying the Universal 4G APN fix (AndroidForums has it), but no love there either.
If you find anything out please share! I would love to have data/LTE working on a newer OctOS.
Ive used 6.0.1 on refresh on vm, freedom pop and my datas fine

Have you tried changing the APN to DDR's Vm's APN?
While I might not have the Samsung Galsxy S3 Data Done Right as you do, I have a Moto G3 and for me to have perfect service (LTE, and 3G fallback) on a custom CDMA ROM its only a matter of me adding the correct APN to the APN settings.

Hey guys. I just rooted my E4GT and didn't install the kies application first. My phone is rooted and everything seems to be functioning except for the wi-fi. Whenever I go to turn on the wi-fi, it turns on, scans for a network and then the wi-fi turns off again. Am I boned? PLEASE HELP!
epic 4g wifi broke
Same for me, after Rooting with oden the wifi searches and then turns off, any help?
I'm sorry you're having the same issue. I haven't found any solutions yet. Would you please keep me in the loop if you find one? Isn't there an IRC channel where some of these guys go and help answer questions?
Something went wrong with your flash. No worries tho you just got to go back to stock and root again. Are you familiar with Titanium Backup? If you are back up all your user apps + data. Then ODIN back to factory restore. Then auto-root with this method. Lastly restore all your apps with titanium
this happened to me but i fixed it easily
forget your wifi
connect again with password and repeat it again until it works maybe 3 times

This is good advice. Do what Kogama recommends and you should be up and running. If not, hit the "HowTo's" link in my signature and follow the steps for a Hands Free Reset. Fast. Simple. Effective. Probably a good idea to do one anyway when you make major changes such as rooting or ROM hopping.
after i rebooted the wifi stopped working and i cant get it work again actually..where is this hands free reset i cant find it only the activation which I also did again
Just_s and Kogama - That method did not work for me. By time I had typed in the WPA key, the wi-fi antennae had already shut itself off.
BUT
KelvCast - your method totally worked. Is it me or does this antennae get piss poor signal strength? But I thank you VERY much for helping me. I'm all good to go. Now on to trying to figure out my write permissions on my Kindle Fire =/
for kelvcast's way you have to completely change your modem back too right? ....damn
im running a completely different rom btw...

"Hands free"is the same as "activation". Sorry that didn't work for you. The only time I had an issue with WiFi, "forgetting" the connection and then logging in fresh was what worked for me. Any other data/ connection issues I've had have been resolved via the hands free reset.
As far as your other question, you don't need to change modems, but it won't hurt if you do.

I have the same problem as OP. Rooted using the Zerg exploit, running stock ROM. When you turn the Wifi on, it only gives you like 5-10s before it turns itself back off, also the MAC address field shows unavailable.
Assuming it's an issue with the root process. The odd thing is mine worked fine for over a week, and just randomly died today while trying to connect to wifi at school. Was going to reflash stock kernel with ODIN, and see if it effects it at all.

How do you forget your wifi?
Hated to do it, but had to flash stock ROM, just the kernel didn't do it.
I was having the same problems... flashing rogue kernel 1.3 fixed it perfectly for me. Hope it helps

My WiFi is working fine with the method I used. Rooted phone and everything.
Not sure if I will be keeping Sprint anyway.
Did a speed test on my moms old LG Verizon phone running at 600mhz. Compared it to my Sprint SGSII running at 1.2ghz dual core. On the LG, I get a little more that 1/2 a meg per second (which is decent in this area) as compared to .01 - .1 meg per second on my SGSII. So there is a BIG difference in speed. I know its not the phone, but the network. Going to do my due diligence and keep the sprint phone for at least another day. But if it goes as it is now, I will be going to a Verizon store Sunday and switching carriers again. Sprint doesnt seem to be better that TMO. Sunday is my 3rd day so if I return everything to sprint, I get a full refund.

Yeah it's hit or miss. In my neighborhood, my buddies with Verizon pull down 1/3-1/2 more bandwidth, but my phone works in any basement in the area and theirs doesn't, go figure. In the mid-town/downtown areas both carriers perform about the same around here (Omaha, NE).
Now if you're talking WiMax and LTE thats a different story altogether.
As for the Thread topic: I think I know what broke mine- I restored a bunch of apps using Appextractor, and think restoring the "Settings.apk" in the system section toasted it. I tried flashing a few different kernels to no avail (Did not try the rogue kernel, however).
Lost WiFi after rooting Epic 4G Touch
I have been fighting this problem for a week now, finally I installed clockwork mod following a youtube video titled (How to Install Clockworkmod on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch - Latest) sorry cant post link new user arent allowed to post links. my phone was already rooted. I now have my WiFi Back.
Hope This Helps
I have tried every method I have been able to find.....Still no wifi. I rooted via this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265429). After following that guide my wifi did not work. Just scans and then turns off. Does not even see any networks. I flashed the stock kernal. Still no wifi. I don't know what else to do. I am going to try a factory restore. If that doesn't work I might need to send my phone in.....This blows.

Factory data reset brought it back
Need some help here. I never usually need help, been modding everything possible on Android for years now. But can't figure this one out, getting worried.
Had my LTE Nexus since launch day. No issues like this before.
Been on all Team Kang AOKP toro ROM updates since release, always on the latest. Stock kernel. Was on build 20 since it came out.
Yesterday at work, had a few bugs from probably not data wiping from build 19, so I wiped it all and re-flashed 20 again. Restored Titanium and started re-setting things up, I believe these are the only things I did. I was at work where I would normally have minimal, but some, service.
Ever since around there, I have not once had a bit of 3G or 4G service. I have not seen the 3G logo for even an instant, only few, gray bars. Wifi works fine of course. It's possible I even lost service before wiping and re-flashing, but I can't recall or didn't notice.
I tried all the usual stuff, wiping everything again, re-flashed AOKP 20, re-flashed other/older ROMs, re-flashed latest radio, restored old Nandroid backups, pulled battery and sim card and put back/rebooted...NOTHING IS WORKING. Also, I have driven through several towns since yesterday so I know it's not a local outage. Also, other people with Verizon phones here have service fine.
I have basically torn the phone down software-wise and nothing has fixed the issue. I still have no service. Each time I re-flash a ROM, it always makes me go on Wifi when it wants me to sign into Google...it never picks up mobile service then or after.
The About>Status screen says:
Network: Verizon Wireless
Signal Strength: shows an actual number reading that changes
Service State: In Service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Please suggest things I can try, but I guaranteed I have already tried them. Can't understand or imagine what is causing this, because I did nothing different than I normally do.
Also, I posted this on Rootz as well, and many replies so far. Still no luck though.
If you have an idea I can try, maybe post there instead at this point for me?
Thanks guys in advance.

Well I did go back to many random earlier, more stock custom ROMs in hopes of a fix, but nothing so far. I am currently back on the stock 4.0.2 ROM that is rooted and deodexed by Bigxie, but I guess I can go all the way back to stock 4.0.1 or 0.2. Will try now.
Went to Verizon and it looks like the sim card swap did it. The girl there was nice and did it without hesitation for me.
She showed me in her computer how under my family account, it wasn't even fully showing my device or something like that. Not sure if it wasn't there at all or if it just didn't show that I had a 4g phone activated on the account...but I'm sure it was related.
Sucks to have to get a swap and still don't know what caused it or if its related to flashing roms, but at least it works! No issues since...
It is possible, but unlikely and no reasonable explanation, that your sim somehow got affected doing all the flashing and stuff.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
Let me begin by saying that I've looked far and wide for answers, and solutions, but haven't found any that work yet. So I'd like to go through the process of what happened, and what my fix is really going to be.
- ATT GSIII Stock 4.1.2, was rooted using the CF Auto-Root Method.
- We installed CWM Touch recovery, and flashed the rooted stock image.
- This is immediately where we started seeing issues with LTE, etc. in a known-good LTE area. We were getting "G" and "E" from that point on.
- From here, I noticed that we had lost the IMEI (was set to 0), so I followed the process to get that restored using QPST.
- After the IMEI was back to normal, nothing got better. LTE wouldn't show up, etc.
- I checked into the APNs, and there were several, so I removed the ones not needed, and kept only the one that was correct. STILL no LTE.
- At this point, since we were going to AOSP anyway, we decided to flash Slim 4.2.2 Build 8. Had the same issues, so I verified APN, Network Modes, IMEI, etc. Everything is there that needs to be.
- Once in a WHILE, we get LTE in a known-good area for a few minutes, but most of the time it's "G" or "E". Calls drop, sound is bad, etc. We tried several of the baseband modems with no desired results.
What part of this process causes this to happen to the ATT GSIII? Is it the root method? Because we had this issues so early in the rooting/flashing process, I would think whatever happened there is still an issue with the phone.
The IMEI is correct, so I don't think that can be it.. or can it? Would calls, texts, data work with an IMEI that isn't correct?
Network Mode is correct: LTE/GSM/WCDMA
CDMA Subscription is set for NV (I know this is RUIM/SIM in VZW GSIIIs). Is NV Correct? I've seen some posts about fixing NV Data.. might this be the issue?
I really have nothing else I can think of. I've been a rooted-flasher for a few years now, and root a lot of phones. I had issues with my d2vzw along the lines of the issue I'm having with the d2att phone, but I was able to fix those fairly easily.
Now I've been reading an I know these issues occur when you flash a 4.2 AOSP build.. so maybe that's when it got really bad for us? But agian, I've gone through all of the check points, and it looks as if everything is in order.
I'm flat out of ideas..
Help? I'm willing to donate, compensate, etc. And if you happen to be in NYC, could even pay someone to help fix.
Many many thanks and internets ahead of time.
I am having the same problem as yours. Been a flashaholic since the beginning of this year. Tried various custom ROMs (CM, AOKP, PA, Rootbox, Revolt, PACman, JellyBAM, Carbon, Slimbean, LiquidSmooth; you name it). Currently I'm using (and happy with) Dirty Unicorn, however earlier last month I noticed that I have not been receiving LTE. Even worse, I can't get a better data speed than EDGE. I have to mention though that I have unlocked my phone and switched to T-Mobile. I'm not sure when I started experiencing this problem since I am very sure that I had LTE on my phone two months earlier. Like you, I also had to restore my IMEI after it turned to 0. I've tried going back to stock and unrooted but that also did not help. I really hope we can find what's wrong with our phones.
Look i normally dont ask for to much help ive been around a bit know more then the average bear. I also fix hardware.
My problem is my data radio will not switch on from any attempt:
Attempted solutions:
Dialed
*#*#4636#*#*
Will not switch on from that screen
Did the obvious and switched on and off airplane mode
Replaced the entire build.prop file with a very stock build.prop after flashing stock jelly bean
Repeated steps for all stock firmware
Newest attempt wiped the entire system partition through recovery forcefully bricking the phone. I have now flashed the original stock e980 stock 10p tot file still no luck
My phone is completely unlocked fully rooted.
I've replaced the data permission files.
And I know its not the SIM card because the SIM card is in the phone I'm using right now which is an LG g2 unlocked which is for sale by the way.
And if it is a hardware problem I have not found any related video or thread to help me find an exchange where the radio is on this thing
Help me please if anybody has any idea?
Cool no help, hey moderator can u move this to thread that may get more help that would be awesome
i came looking around here because my g pros radio stopped working sometime last night while i was asleep and was about to make a thread asking for help, but seeing as how you haven't got much i doubt i would either. but ill give you a little info on mine, will it help you out at all? not sure. but i know it might make me feel a little better.
I flashed Vanir 4.4.4 last week coming from Beanstalk 4.4.4 cause beanstalk was getting buggy from all the ugly mods i subjected it to. so all was well with Vanir till i woke up this morning and had no service, no calls, no network, AND even if i connected to a wifi network it seemed that i couldn't get any data from it. I tried flashing madmacks modem cause who knows, maybe thatll help, but it diddnt. So then i flashed a different kernel and changed TCP protocols cause who ****ing knows, but it did nothing. THEN i restored my older Beanstalk 4.4.4 backup sure that it would work flawlessly but guess what, same problem. Now that im back on Beanstalk i went to the "Network Operators" option under "Mobile network settings" and selected ATT, which is my service provider, i can now make calls and texts but still no data, when i did this on Vanir it did not help. So i started messing with my "preferred network type" and realized i have data on 2G, but not 3G or LTE. Im gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe if you flash your phone back to 100% stock your radio should start working again, as much as i dont want to, i might end up doing that as well.
tl:dr
similar problem, i dont really know ****, easiest option = go back to stock, hope it works.
@Fant0m3 @alb-o
Have you guys checked if your rom shows your imei?
I have had this problem twice. My IMEI disappeared and I don't know how.
Your symptoms match.
If that's the case you could take it to a repair shop and they'll fix it in a minute or two. Or, you can check around xda.
thats a good point, when i was looking around XDA earlier i saw a few mentions of it but diddnt see anything very specific and was late for class so diddnt have time to look for too long. strangely enough mine actually started working normally again after i kept switching from 2G to 3G to LTE, which is great. but if i would've known that info earlier i could have checked if my IMEI disappeared while my radio still wasn't working, i assume it probably did.
after searching around more i found this thread that talks about it and how to prevent it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857054
thanks for the help g0at1, hopefully this helps out the OP if he hasn't already fixed the problem, or anyone else that comes across this.
nope
I've flashed back stock numerous times even flashed other versions such as e988 and back again if u dint know how to do that just change your build number in your build prop file...I've tried everything I am downt to antenna cable SIM reader or cell radio.. If radio I might as well just give up cause I can't find one for sell anywhere...I'm not so pressed as I'm using the LG g2 and it's so fast stable and a bit slimmer I think I'm gonna keep it but I would like to fix it and sell it though...... My symptoms are mentioned and all tried fixes are there. Imei is read carrier is not WiFi is received but there is an X above the data bars phone is fully unlocked as well
This may help also but it does not read my imei when the SIM is not in hmm maybe I will rework the imei code and get back if that works. I will keep updated when fixed and with solution
Long story short, I have 2 LG G7's that I got from eBay as "fake" PM's and were flashed to ULM (20.f). Both were activated on Twigby (native Sprint coverage plus voice roaming through both Verizon and it's roaming partners and Sprint's roaming partners; no data roaming available) and have worked flawlessly over past 6 months. Android 9.
Then suddenly, couple days ago, one of the G7's has lost roaming capabilities. Tried network reset and factory reset, but it didn't fix it. I know it can see the Verizon towers but it never connects to them.
The other G7 is still working fine. Twigby support is good (I spent couple hours with them troubleshooting) but they don't sell these phones and their best educated answer was that there is some kind of hardware damage or the system files are corrupted (especially that factory reset didn't fix anything)
The only roaming setting I can find is the data roaming, which is off. I am 100% convinced that I have seen a more complex set of options that included voice/call roaming too, but I cannot locate it right now. Maybe it was under Android 8 (that's how it was shipped to me)
Questions to you, and trying to save some time.
- obviously, what could be wrong? (especially if you had a similar experience)
- should I try to re-flash the same version? (I think it's 20.f)
- or should I roll it back to newest Android 8 version? (hoping to be able to use the call/voice roaming setting)
- what about Lineage?
Thanks.
FYI, I first reflashed it with Android 8 file and the roaming worked right away. Reflashed it again with 20f file and it's still working.
No idea what caused it but re-flash is the fix.
