Community development strength - OnePlus X Real Life Review

Reason I bought this to begin with. Its a great device but even I'll admit OnePlus made a few mistakes with Oxygen.
The amount of ROMs and tweaks for this thing is insane. The ease of development is crazy, I think the hardware more than holds its own, we have one of the best kernels there I'd (Boeffla), and a rock solid user base... What more could you ask for??? ...except maybe a removable battery... Or modules like the G5. But you don't get that for $250 now do you

Too many ROMs where to choose from :silly:

Preety poor development. All ROM`s look the same.

Amazing work we have a great team of Developers

Pfff seriously?
If we compare the dev strenght to the device distribution, I thing we have a stratospheric ratio here !!

so why don't you step up and do something different to the community?

I loved my X even without changing the ROM, but after OnePlus couldn't fix the camera I said f*ck it. I started to mess around with ROMs and boy it made this device so much better. I love it and will keep it as long as it lasts

Many major ROMs are here for Onyx. But the thing is they all are stock based ROMs. And almost every ROMs in future will be having stock look. But there are still many users want customized ROMs. There should be an option like stock-based and not-stock-based ROMs. Giving only one option like only stock-based ROMs is a major drawback in the community.
Developers also have to give their users much different ROM than a stock based. Stock look is cool and gorgeous. But we have only stock look.

I'm also happy with the Vanilla desing. For me the Android system is nothing more then the settings app.
I relay hope for a Candy Rom. On the Op5 You hearing me @CertifiedBlyndGuy =D
But every rom im on I miss the Lineage clock App.
Shake to snooze.. These awesome ****ers.

Candy will come to the 5. Helping a friend with it. As for the X, it'll be back soon. Gotta focus on PA one other cool thing first that I think will shock the community

Proud But surprised new gn owner

Hey All! Just got my gn a couple weeks ago and I love it! I must say though I'm a little surprised at how few roms there are out for it. I know it's new and all but still it HAS been out since last fall! Is this how long it normally takes to build a fan base with these phones? I'm not complaining. I just found it curious, coming from the Nexus S to owning the new Android flagship that there would still be such relatively little support by now. Any takers on the topic? I'd Be interested to hear your input!
Oh By the way, I'm in no way bashing the phone or this forum. I think both are outstanding. Just making conversation lol

Why do we need more roms? The current ones provide everything we need.
Same complaints about the epic touch, six months later there's a ridiculous amount of ROMs to flash.
it's better to have a few very good roms than a lot of roms that are not so good.
I just counted 25 ROMs in the dev section. Should our phones be walking to the store for us?
What more do you need??
Sent from the future.
Well take a look at the nexus s forum. there's a rom for everyone! One Can never have too much choice! And again it was just a question. No Need to get all defensive.
less roms equals the nest selection
I think the reason is that a couple of roms got such a headstart in users and features, the devs don't see a demand. Sometimes it seems like over half the GNex owners use aokp, myself included.
For me it's surprising to see so little in flashable mods. I'd love to try some roms, but they don't have a customizable lock screen or notification toggles. To me those are must haves, so I stick with aokp. Maybe when cyanogenmod finally goes stable, devs can use it as a base for great roms.

I can see what you mean. I also came from the Nexus S, and I did notice that there are a lot more ROMS for it. But it seems like there is no low quality roms for the Gnex. It really is a casse of quality over quantity. And we also have some groundbreaking roms here, such as paranoidandroid.
Quality v.s. quantity.
Are you looking for ROMs built from ASOP or ROMS that are just a klang of another with skins?
IMHO, ASOP or CM9 is all that a person needs. Then add what you want and ignore the rest.
I think as far as ROMS go we have hit a plateau. Until the next release (assuming there are new features) nearly everything is available over the ROMS we currently have. I can see a few kernels coming up with new ideas but I think ROMS are as up to speed as we can expect for a while

The fact the Nexus S has been around for a lot longer, that can happen.

Gotta be careful what you say around here. I had opened up a similar thread where I was "complaining" about the Rom Support for the nexus and got flamed big time as effect.
Just watch out around here.. they don't like opinions
But coming from a sgs 2 I also was dissapointed to not find hundreds of different Roms for the nexus as there were for the galaxy s 2. Also every Rom on the nexus looks about the same and has about the same Features while for the galaxy they really differed.
I'm on bamf with bond Kernel and love them. But also waiting for an update from both since weeks....

wait till jelly bean comes out
we have less ROMs coz they're all based on ICS , nexus S has various gingerbread versions too, not to mention it's been there for quite some time. as someone already said, basically we have everything we need with the current ROMs, except ParanoidAndroid, the only new idea could be a port of sense or tw for example, but then there's the same problem with drivers, certain hardware not working and so on.. Some people think for instance, that buying HTC or Samsung devices will give them more options, sense/TW roms and aosp/miui , and it does sound good in theory , but the reality is that u will always end up with a buggy AOSP experience (there's always something that's not working right-been through many devices and it's the same story all over again).
As a conclusion, people should make a little research before getting a device, if u like what sense or TW (or any other custom UI) offers u , then u should consider that device, if u want a real AOSP experience then the nexus is ur best choice. Not to mention that if u have a fetish to change the way ur UI looks u can always get a 3rd party launcher, AOSP handles it best coz sense or TW occupy more RAM and running a market launcher on top of all this just makes it worse.
yeah a lot of you guys make sense. I guess with all the options on the nexus s I had become a bit of a crack flasher. I just enjoyed trying out new and different roms and playing with them. but as someone just said here earlier all the ones here are pretty much the same. I'm using aokp now and I like it. I just also like other stuff too lol
thanks for your opinions everyone! keep em coming! great reading
I agree. I miss my galaxy s2 i9100. That phone has the most development. I wanna give you a reason for more development... it was expensive but it was launched everywhere in the world. Second you can run 4 different (base) types of roms.
1) touchwiz gingerbread
2) cm7 aosp based gingerbread
3) touchwiz ICS
4) cm9 aosp based ics roms
So you can see how there are always roms to flash. I loved flashing early builds as well. So I encourage more devs to build different and unique roms rather than taking features from other roms. Thanks

Consider it a blessing. Towards the dying days of the SE X10, most of the renowned devs had moved on and then we had a million different variations of every kind of rom you could think of. We had heaps of MIUI roms which were all identical but with a different theme. Same story with Cyanogen roms.
There's really no need to have a plethora of roms because they all end up being the same. Its better to have a selection of high quality roms to pick from.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
in my experience most of the roms available are just variations of stock **** by some kid who learned to deodex and root. because what the world really needs is another ****ty rom based on sense.
there are no GB roms, no roms based on some vendor-ruined stock build. just AOSP. there are few bugs, just awesome features. you don't need a ton of roms when you have that.

My thoughts on most roms (GSM) (personal opinion)

Hi all.
I have started this thread for all users. And mainly newbies.
Now when i say newbies i dont mean anything bad, in a way i mran people eho are new to the nexus and are overwhelmed by all these great roms and devs. (Max respect to all you great devs)
If you are hoping that i will say....this rom is the best......or that rom is the best, you will not find that here...
I am what they would say a "crack flasher" and have flash most of the gsm roms (not all, so devs if i dont mention your rom its because ive had no experiance with it) anyone feel free to post there opinions.
Right lets start.
I am splitting these up in to groups.
Customization (obvious customize hell outa it...not as good battery.
Balanced. Fair customization fair battery.
Stock (ish) pretty much stock less customization. Good battery.
Stock. As close to stock as possible great battery.
I set it it out like this as its my opinion.
Right then, lets really begin this time.
From, the top.
Customization
You have aokp, liquid smooth and black ice, i repeat there may be more that i have not tried.
These 3 roms will give you as much customization as the devs can think of and cram them in there. I find that these have the worst battery. (That does not mean terrible, but just compared to others.
Balanced.
Cyanogen mod 9, eagles blood, gummy. These roms give an average user a good bit of customization and pretty good battery.
Stock (ish) only one i have experianced is bugless beast. I hate stock rom for one reason, wich is no wifi toggles etc. Bugless beast will gives me the feel of stock (wich i love) but with those features.
Toggles aren't the only feature but its what stands out to me most. Also offers great battery life.
Stock
Android revolution hd
This is a great rom for the people who want completely stock but better performance than stock.
Offers really great battery life.
There is one section i missed out as i didnt know what to call the section. The rom that belongs in this unknown section is........BAMF
i have had little experiance with this rom but my opinion is....
This is a unique rom. Well thought out. It dosent look like most of the others. Its set out diferant and offers good customization and pretty decent battery life.
And thats all, i know there are other roms i have missed out but i want to list the ones i have experianced personally.
Please no haters as i have put a lot of effort into this post.

[Q] cyanogen mode 11 vs skydragon gpe

Hey guys i wanted to know whic one of these roms offers better experience!
Cause i prefer gpe ui rather than sens and i don't like like pure pure gpe!
So which one whould you choos?
Cyanogen mode11 or skydragon gpe :?
Neither of them offer better performance. These types of thread get closed everyday here on XDA. It all boils down to personal preference. Make a backup and try them out for yourself. Nobody here is you and only you can decide what works best for you.
Should we pick out your next pair of shoes for you? Want me to dress you tomorrow?
I'm sickened by people that can't make an opinion on their own and make posts like this, posts that get locked up quick.

Last I checked all of the GPE ROMs are more stable. AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod and AOKP, which task650 is working hard to build, require more work to support things like WiFi, Bluetooth, Camera, IR sensor, etc. At the moment the CM11 and AOKP builds for the M8 do not have reliable Camera functionality.
Performance wise? Any AOSP or GPE ROM had felt the same to me. Very fluid performance with no lag to speak of.
Battery life? Haven't used both enough to get a grasp but from I've seen this leans more towards gpe based software.
Stability? Crushing victory for GPE here. Their Roms contain all the proprietary stuff from HTC so naturally just about everything hardware wise is going to function just fine. All this has to be worked on heavily with any AOSP ROM due to having to find ways to get around the closed source drivers.
Customizable? I'll have to give an edge to some of the AOSP based Roms. Some such as Paranoid Android having a seemingly endless amount of options. Even GPE with gravitybox can't compare.
All in all its going to boil down to what you prefer.
SD GPE is best
(c'mon i know thats biased but what do people expect with comparison threads)
reported for slaughter
Thread closed,
Rom comparison threads are against forum rules. Best thing to do is to try them for yourself.
Many thanks,

Lg g3 d855 best rom!!

Hello to you all,
i bought recentely a g3 D855, and am having some battery draining issue, is it normal? and by the way witch rom do you suggest me to install
Thnx to you all
Interested if someone made some tests about popular roms
for me, cloudy 2.2 is the best
For me is AN 10.2 but this rom is not available in XDA (but is the best, by far)
Anyway, every user have different demands so, the best rom for me do not necessary mean is the best rom for you.
there's no best rom. all are equal and yet different in their own types. it all depends on the user. try them all pick what you most like.
and threads like this is not allowed here in XDA. no to roms/ bias
In general, you have to choose between AOSP ROMs and stock ROMs. AOSP ROMs are stock-like android versions which have neat tricks up their sleeves. They are super-light on the system(meaning it's lighting fast), you get newer versions faster, the community is bigger and you get to customize it more freely, but the cons are that the camera doesn't have the same quality as the stock ROMs and there are some missing features which are kinda-unique to our phones.
AOSP ROMs best advatage for me is the battery life but although that sounds awesome, I prefer to have all my features and especially the camera. Therefore I am still stuck with Cloudy 2.2 .
After using CM12 for a few months, I finally installed cloudy and I'm very happy. I couldn't stand the annoying bugs of CM anymore (mainly the screen which doesn't respond at random times) and it's nice to have all the native features of the G3 (nice camera, knock code...).

Stable and good camera. Stay on OOS, simple as that
what about aospa?
LOS is stable and if you know what to do even with a good camera quality. But for ppl not able to test around I fully support the OOS suggestion.
Stick to stock OOS. Custom roms can never be as stable as stock. Harsh truth.

I would have to disagree. It all depends on the rom. Builds using los as a base do tend to be a bit unstable. So does PA. Find a rom based on pure aosp that is not a cherry pick kitchen sink rom and it is just as stable or even more so.

Perfect camera, absolutely stable, great battery life

actually most ROMs on development section and cross development section are both stable and has great camera... look for the roms that has the latest Gcam (google camera), the images are as good (if not better) than stock... the camera issue is almost not a factor for sometime now...
also most roms are reasonably stable, i tried almost all of them and all depends on your taste, there are ones with a lot of features and ones with just the basics...
no one can till you what you'll like, list the set of features you require, search both forums and look into roms, read through few pages specially at the end to see the current state of the rom, search if you want to ask about something (because someone asked it before you and was answered)...narrow down your choices and select one and try... if you don't like it, try the next...etc until you like one, you'll learn a lot about what you really require in the process.

A warning. Those that do use the modded Google camera use a camera Hal that breaks other things. Not a worry really for the average user but Important all the same.
Try NucleaR ROM, it will surprise you
if you want real stability in custom roms, there is only one rom you can try, Paranoid Android, most stable custom rom
