You might want to check with the tech department at your school. If they can't help you then you're probably out of luck. Stick with the iPhone 6 if it works for you on wireless and use your N5x for everything else. Or return it. Good luck.

PEAP GTC.
On my Nexus 5X, the eduroam network at my school worked perfect out of the box, but I remember my Nexus 5 having some issues with it, due to the newer DCHP client (using TLS 1.2).
You could try hit up the Developer Settings (Tap Build Number 7 times) and set the DCHP client to the old version, which worked for my Nexus 5 (not sure if the Nexus 5X has this option available though).

Perhaps you should specify your issue first. Is it a problem caused by failed authentification? Are you able to connect, but no IP using DHCP, look at advanced settings, whether IP is 0.0.0.0 or 192.168.xx.yyy. Is IP correct and just no internet connection?

Thx u so much. The old DHCP works well. But it has been removed in N.
My 5x works perfectly fine on eduroam running Android N beta 4. Certificate authentication.

It seems my wifi on the Note 8 has issues. It is much slower than my N3 accessing the same data on G+ and even here. It makes me think I'm on dialup sometimes. Not as bad using the browser but still slow compared to my other devices. I have a TP-Link router. I also see a message "Connected to Playground" which is my SSID, never see this on the N3. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Probably a conflict with other access points in the area.
If you want to see the conflicts and tune your WiFi network in general WiFi Analyzer is a great app.

Alright guys, haven't been on here for awhile. My work has a public wifi network, one of those ones you have sign into through an internet portal. I had a nexus 7 2012 wifi only tablet, and it worked with my wifi at work. My HTC one also works with my wifi at work. There isn't any "real" login (ie username and password) it's only a "hey thanks for using this press continue to gain internet access"
I bought a nexus 7 2013 lte tablet last night. Took it to work today and it will not connect to my works wifi. There wifi provider is wandering wifi. The error i get is "Unable to connect to the internet, there were technical difficulties directing you to the wifi login page. we are working quickly to address any issues. please try again in a few minutes"
I can turn right around and log into the wifi with my htc one and my nexus 7 2012.
things i have tried:
-disabled mobile data
-removed tmobile sim
-restart tablet
-factory reset tablet
-used a different browser to complete login
-logged into my home wifi network (works)
things you should know about my situation
-not rooted on any of the three devices
-not unlocked on any of the devices
-no software modifications at all
-EVERYTHING IS STOCK on all three devices, but up to date.
Suggestions and tips would be great.
Thanks
Nick
the first thing i thought of when reading about this sort of access points like the one you have described is that i always have to activate cookies in order to log onto the wifi. but it seems that it may not be your issue since you already have tried with another browser...

Thanks for the reply, i did mean to add the fact that i cleared the cookies.. but i figured most would realized that comes with factory resetting and new browser lol
If the 2012 one is on 4.3 or less, and the 2013 is on kitkat, perhaps the wifi gateway requires flash, which is no longer supported on kitkat (unless one uses dolphin with the flash workaround).
In short, try it with dolphin with the flash apk enabled.
Both nexus 7s are on kit Kat. Logging into the WiFi web portal inside of Google chrome

I'm not a newb and I'm pretty sure aosp roms wont have the problem. I think its pretty disgraceful for such a great phone to have these wifi disconnects. No its not the router, I have a note 2 and s2 running flawlessly and I don't want to do a store return for the same phone. Any insight would be appreciated and voiding a warranty is the least of my concerns.
Anyone out there lol
I am interested with this also. Free bump.
Btw, I got authentication error on the wifi, not sure with yours.
Tested with 4 different routers, no go. Meanwhile, my iPhone and Nexus 5 are working fine, so are all my other devices like TV, laptops, IP camera etc.

What router and router firmware do you have. Are you using kk or 4.3. Is their heavy traffic on your router channel? Also can you show a screenshot of your WiFi settings.

I have Asus RT-N66U - stock firmware because DD-WRT have issues. I also tried D-Link, Netgear and Buffalo.. all bought JUST to test this damn Wi-Fi issue. All connection to 802.11n 5Ghz and I tried every single channel out there.
I am using JB 4.3, stock, rooted. Wifi setting is:
- Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Only when pluggen in
- Always allow scanning: no
- Auto network switch: no
No heavy traffic most of the time. Issue happens whether I play Netflix or not.

You just solved all your issues. Go on the 2.5 GHz. Forget 5ghz. Test that out I bet you it works. 5ghz has less people on it it also is unstable. Very unstable. I shut mine off on my router cause of all the headaches it was causing.

Hmm.. that's bizarre. I have used 5Ghz for a long time and all my other devices (Nexus 5, Nexus 7, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S) works great with the 802.11n 5Ghz radio. No authentication error. My place is also "crowded" with all the neighbors' Wi-Fi, all 2.4 Ghz.
I will test it out, but I found 2.4Ghz is slower when say, streaming netflix. Slightly more buffering.

Ok say I went ahead and rooted and installed Jedi and still had an unstable connection issue so I tried pac-rom and confirmed no issued with wifi, went back to Jedi and was still getting wifi disconnects. After a lot of hair pulling and google search I found a xda user post in a thread (I can't remember where) were an owner of the note3 and s4 said he fixed his wifi disconnects on both phones by changing his routers band settings to g or b and not mixed g/b like it had been set on. I decided to give it a try so I switched mine from what was a b/n band to just a b band and low and behold I was able to stream a whole movie via allshare without a disconnect where as before it was about 8 minutes before a disconnect. I hope this thread helps somebody. I will report back with an update In a day or so.

I'm having trouble connecting to my work wifi since doing the upgrade to 7.0.
I know Google has gotten rid of the legacy dhcp setting in developer options. This option enabled me to connect to the work wifi on MM.
Has anyone run into this issue and or found a decent solution?
No experience with it. Just wondering what does your work use to force legacy DHCP?

It has something to do with verification protocols. Basically everyone (mostly enterprise networks) uses a faulty version, but Google decided to implement a correct version since MM.
But try convincing the IT department their implementation is wrong......
Hi all, I need some help with my VPN. I have TMobile and when I connect to VPN I can't load any pages. It works on all of my other devices except my OG pixel, and now my pixel 2 XL. It's only when I'm on my mobile network if I'm connected to WiFi everything works fine. I have searched and can't find anything.
It's kind of weird that this is only happening on my pixel devices?

I have a paid VPN on my Nexus 5X, running Android 8.0. It is set to autoconnect and it disconnects when I go on the cell network. Seems to stay connected on wifi 90%+ of the time without intervening. I've never messed with it when it disconnects when the cell network. But I just tried and the VPN turned on and websites didn't load. So it seems to be acting the same way. I'm on Fi, but connected through the Tmobile network. I also have Fi's Wi-Fi Assistant on, but I've never seen it connect to any wifi hostpot so I don't think it is coming into play. I also tried Opera VPN on the cell network and websites were also blocked using that.
I wonder if it is something to do with stock Google Android. I personally think Google messes around too much with things that are working fine.
So I guess all I've added is I am having the same thing happen on my stock Google Nexus 5X when using cell data.

What paid VPN do you use? After googling for hours I found some info but nothing that fixed my issue.
I host my own VPN on my unifi security gateway and and kept seeing that the default MTU and MMS is set to 1452 on the the unifi security gateway and needs to be set to 1500... Some people had this work for them, others not.
This sucks I was excited about this phone coming from my OG pixel XL mainly for this reason. I thought my old pixel was just messed up.

I use VPN Unlimited. It is on the cheap end of the scale, so may not be the most reliable or up to date app. Works for wifi connections though. I'm also not trying to access a protected network. Just getting around geographic restrictions when I travel and for when I use public wifi.

By no means a VPN power user, but I was trying to use the built-in VPN on my asus AC-68U. I have always used the PPTP and it worked flawlessly on my 6P over Sprint. Switched to the Pixel 2 XL and nadda. I tried to research as well to no avail. I simply switched to OpenVPN on the router and downloaded the app (Play Store: OpenVPN for Android). It has been working perfectly ever since. Even has a quick toggle button you can add. Just my $0.02.

Awesome thank you for the heads up. I was trying not to setup an openvpn server since my security gateway had an L2TP VPN server built in. But it looks like I'll be setting up a VM openVPN server tonight. Thank you wish me luck!
I will report back to let you guys know of that works or not. Still sucks that every device I have connected to my VPN worked except the one I use most! Pixel 2 FtW
OpenVPN server worked perfectly! Kinda sucks cause it's not tied into my Ubiquiti GUI but it works perfectly! So I'm happy thanks all.
I use Private Internet Access. It is a paid sub ($50+ on slickdeals for 2 years) they have an app and quick toggle as well. Works on all my Android devices and PC so far. Pretty happy with them. Claims of no logging either if that is something of importance to you.

Yeah I have a PIA account also from SD but I dont use it anymore. The main reason for the VPN for me was to access my home network from outside safely. But since I have my own VPN server setup now no need to go bacck and forth to PIA and openVPN.
I am going to be putting my openVPN to the test today and see if I can hold a connection all day long. So far im 3 hours in no drops or disconnects yet... Im loving it.

Right, nlua, I am also using PIA which is very cheap VPN on the list of best VPNs services. My biggest reason to use PIA is that torrent-friendly VPN with no logs and Unlimited bandwidth and VPN speed.
