I have 7.6Gb of system data according to Disk Usage (app). What the heck is this and how do I shrink it?
I've seen up to 2Gb before on other droids but this is the first time I've seen it this huge.
EDIT read something re: that these were the system files but I don't think so, I'm scanning the /sdcard or /storage/emulated/0 partition which is only 54Gb or so (hence the system files are already excluded as they are on a different partition?)

the size of /system? 3.4GB with 1.6GB free or 1.8BGused
do you have root and installed app to /system?
if you are looking a /storagre/emulated/0 i see 3040MB system data
yeah, Titanium Backup says system is 3.61GB with 1.28GB Free, but either way it's a big waste of space

So...I am running AuraxTSense 8.0 on my phone and have made an ext4 about 600Mb partition for Apps2SD.Recently I installed Pocket Legends on my phone along with some other games and all was ok.However,yesterday I tried to update Pocket Legends from the Market and it said that there is limited space on my phone and it cannot update.I then checked in my settings and I had 23 Mb free on my phone.I tried moving all apps to SD with Titanium Backup(excluding Launchers and widgets) and it persists that I only have that much space.What is going on?
Also,when choosing to install apps on external storage in Spare Parts,does it mean Apps2SD+ partition or froyo Apps2SD?

i dont have this problem anymore, i have lots of apps installed and still have 1.6GB of internal storage lol

I've been having much the same problem.
It would seem that no matter how many apps I move to the SD card, I don't actually get all that more free space on the phone.
A 'df' in the terminal shows me that I've got plenty of space in /system, but /data is nearly full. Nearly half of that is in /data/dalvik-cache.
So I wiped the dalvik cache from recovery and now it's okay again.. for the time being.
Maybe PocketLegends requires a lot of space in /data? Or something was wrong with the update?
ok guys heres the deal, when you use apps2sd what is does is create a symlink between /data/app/, the dalvik-cache and the ext partition on your sd card. the downside of this method is, /data/data/ remains on your phone, /data/data. holds all your settings, app data and other things, and this is where your space is going, one great way for s-off users to improve there situations, is to change the MTD Partitions on there device, basically taking space from /system and /cache and adding this to /data, you can reclaim and extra 50mb+ using this method

Right now, I have it set with 250 MB /system, 147 MB /data and 40 MB /cache.
I suppose if I'm running out of space on /data but not on /system, then I could repartition again.

if your really stingy with /system and remove all the htc apps and widgets you dont use, you can get /system down to 170-180mb that would give you 70-80mb of space back, heres another good tip, there is no point having flash player in /system as its always going to be updated, if you remove installflashplayer.apk from /system/app/ and the associated libflashplayer.so in /system/lib/, that gives you and extra 15mb straight away

You should refrain from making a partition bigger than 2GB for DATA2SD. Issues have been reported, specially with market.
Read thoroughly the DATA2SD thread to gather all informations
Forgive me if this has been asked/answered before. I found similar threads related to the /system partition, but nothing related to the /data partition.
I'm running a custom ROM with A2SD (sd:ext)-- specifically, an ample 1GB partition on /system/sd. As you're probably aware, /data/app symlinks to /system/sd/app. Currently, I have 52MB free on /data, and 355MB free on /system/sd.
Here is my situation:
I have a large app (74MB) installed in .android_secure. Since I don't want apps in .android_secure (for my own personal irrelevant reasons), I would typically go into Settings->Applications (or TitaniumBackup) and actually move the app to the phone (which puts it into /data/app, hence /system/sd/app). The problem is that the system's move program that moves the app calculates the free space on the /data partition (52MB) instead of the free space in the finer destination, which is /system/sd/app (355MB), and ultimately rejects the move because it doesn't think there is enough free space (when there really is).
I was thinking of resizing the /data partition to "trick" the move program. But the only thing I can really steal space from is the /system partition, which isn't such a great idea. Seeing as my dalvik cache and app data takes up 350MB (or about 85%) of the /data partition, I'm further concerned I might eat up my /data partition, even without apps installed directly on it!!!
How have others dealt with this problem? I've seen some stuff about moving the dalvik cache to the sd card, though there are much better arguments AGAINST doing that.
Any help is much appreciated!

df -k - Shows the storage allocation and usage by partition
du -hs <path> - Calculates the free space (recursively) for given path. Note: it will not include any data within any symlinks.
Need some reassurance...The Internal MB free is the space I need to worry about as the phone uses this as its memory. I have a few apps installed already, but was curious if I need to worry about the system Rom size.
Mine Reads:
System Rom: 367MB (9.94 MB free) (Kingsrom R 6.1)
Internal : 448 (323 MB free)
SD Card: 15.9 GB (10.2 GB Free)
Your running kings from it takes up slot of space if you want space flash another rom hehe

The Internal space is what the Apps are installed to anyway correct?
Do a search for APS2SD.
It's very simple to partition your SDCard so you can run that.

Unless you're adjusting your partition sizes (which I believe most people don't do), it really doesn't matter how big or small the ROM itself is, as long as it fits. It goes on a separate partition (/system), which is a fixed size. With few if any exceptions, files don't get written to /system during daily use of the ROM. Your apps and data get installed to /data, which is also a fixed size partition. Having space free in one doesn't help you with the other. So the extra data in /system just sits there unused.
There are ways you can adjust the partition size, but I think there are some downsides to doing that -- I don't know off the top of my head what, but there must be a reason it hasn't broadly caught on. You can also manually move apps into /system, but if they get updated you have to remember to move the updates back again.
I've read on here that people are able to install lots of apps without clogging their memory on their phone, placing all their info on their sd cards. can someone help me do that? I've already have app2card and other apps to clear up memory but things still start to take up the phone memory.
I've done the search and can't figure this one out. i'm using the atomic rom and I believe my phone is rooted. thank you.

Well, even if apps is moved to sd, their odex files will still occupy space in dalvik-cache. If you have many apps, internal space will surely be low.
I'm using DiskUsage app to see what is taking space in internal memory.
Here is some hints from me that can help you with internal memory problems:
-clear your apps cashe and data from time to time (obviously, you can do that for not so important apps, but not for games, because you will loose your progress)
-Most GB roms are not big in term of size, so there are lot of space left in /system (sometimes even more then 100MB). You can install some of your apps to system (move them from /data/app to /system/app).
-Reodex your rom. You'll get 30MB+ if you reodex just framework folder, even more if you reodex all system apps. (so all odex files will be in system partition, not in dalvik-cache (data partition)
-Finaly, you can unlock your bootloader and flash custom kernels (lupus or turbo kernel) that can increase you data partition to 610MB

thanks! i'm really happy with my atomic 7 gb rom so I don't think I will flash a new one (at the moment). I have abou 120mb left in my internal memory....is that pretty good? will reodexing your rom slow down the system?

120MB is OK. Actually, it's all ok untill first thing you want to install fail due low space. Then you can think of things posted above.
No, reodexing rom won't slow your phone.
I think your referring to Link2sd. I have about 300 games/apps installed and still have loads of space. Look up link2sd in the market and follow the instructions. You need to format your sdcard and use minitool partition to make am ext2 or ext3 or ext4. I use ext2 foe the partition. Make it around 1-2gb in size. I made mine 3gb. The rest is fat32 format for your sdcard. When you install links it will ask what ext type it is. 2,3,4 etc. Select the format and it will install the script them reboot from that point all installed apps will be linked to that partition. Freeing up a lot of space. Like instead of a few megabytes of storage its more like a couple kilobytes as its just a file telling your phone where to look foe the application or game on your ext partition.

First, make a backup of your sd card to PC.

As far as I know it is not possible because system partition size is fixed in source of the ROM. Theoretically it could be done but I am not sure if custom recovery also needs to be customised like ROM? I think best solution would be to buy large sdcard (64GB) ?

It is somewhat possible to resize partitions by adjusting the parameters in the pit file.
However how risky this is for the sake of what, 1.5gb, I don't know?
The better option, if you don't want to waste that space, is to use it.
Move your apps from user to system apps.
Its easy enough to do and can be accomplished with little effort using apps already available and with the bonus of gaining the extra space on the data partition.
