Also for the blocking capabilities to work you must download adblock plus from playstore.

Just be careful. No one has stepped up and vouched for that APK being a Samsung official one. Not quite sure what it's origins are.
I installed the apk from the below thread on my VZW S7 and all is good in the world.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3342018
i didn't install the APK bc nobody could confirm where it came from, and there was some line in it people didn't know what it was.
however, as noted, it's available in play store for most of us now
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.android.app.sbrowser&hl=en
try it.

Weird, I've been using the 10-51 apk that was on the xda forum and it was saying device not compatible for a while now. Now the application links and play store recognizes it

Well, verizon can't block it, only Google (as the store managers) or samsung (ad the developer) could block it. Verizon May have asked samsung to block it, but they couldn't do it on their own.
More to the point, verizon removed it from their software, and samsumg didn't update their play store entries to allow the Verizon version, so it's both the companies fails, not just verizon. I'm guessing the ad block or some other component stopped some verizon tracking or ad network from working.

I was using the apk that someone uploaded because I kept getting the "not compatible" message. Yesterday the "not compatible" message went away in the play store and I could download it. I'm guessing that everyone will be able to get it from Play soon.

While they may have blocked it from THEIR firmware, it's not blocked from the MVNO firmware that is usable on the same phone. I have the BQE2 U-firmware (it's a multi-CSC firmware for multiple carriers; among them are VZW and Tracfone, a dual-carrier MVNO - the other carrier is T-Mobile), the Samsung browser showed up as an update). The phone itself is the gold S7 (not S7edge) that is a unique-to-VZW model. The phone is not on ANY network currently - I went with the Tracfone firmware because that is where I will be taking the phone.

Wireless Tether for Root users isn't working
I googled the same thing this morning and the way it sounds, no, they haven't. But a lot of people are working on it.
I assume you must be talking about the gsm version? My vzw nexus worked out of the box. Not rooted yet though.

Using it out of the box the built in app on Verizon you have to pay $20 / month for the service.
GSM version works the same as what Rhyno said above....not sure if OP knew where to look

If you're on the GSM version, just use the built-in version. You can tether USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi Hotspot via settings menu.
If you're on the VZW version, you have to either run a custom ROM that doesn't have Verizon's tracking software on it, or wait for people to figure out what apps need to be tweaked/removed in the stock ROM to make sure you can use 3rd party apps effectively without being "caught" by VZW.
Not up to speed on the gn, I guess. Coming from an aosp rommed thunderbolt.
Could vzw actually charge me 20/ month for something built in without notifying me first? Or just put me on some sort of watch list?

Actually the way it works is a VZW popup comes up when you try to feather and requires that you sign up for a plan before it will connect.
Is everyone else on verizon having this problem? Trying to find the differentiating factors here...
I'm grandfathered in for unlimited data, and have used stock/app tethering on all my Android phones.
The vzw rep at the store couldn't activate my gn in store (using wife's upgrade from separate acct) so I had to activate on the web.
I was never given the message described above, it was just the same old stock tethering menus...
Different software revs possibly? Not sure... I updated to 4.02 yesterday, but I can't remember if I set up wifi tether before that or not.

I imagine this is the same as everyone's, but just in case.

Just check your account. If you're already paying then it won't pop up... I highly doubt they're letting you slide through. There's some kinda explanation as to why you're not getting the notification of the service.
I'll check my acct and confirm again. I've never used the Verizon hotspot (or at least since my 2 free months after buying the tbolt, anyways). Weird.
---------- Post added at 04:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:26 AM ----------
Checked account, same as it has been since forever. Anyways, if I can help at all, or if anyone needs file info, a backup, etc.. just PM me. Otherwise I'll reply back to this thread if I ever do get any notification or charge on my account.
That is weird. I picked up my Galaxy Nexus yesterday from VZW. According to the salesman at the corporate store I picked it up from, VZW has not yet enabled the built in tethering on their side. He claims they are currently reimbursing customers that have tethering plans and have upgraded to the GN. It sounds as though, if you're paying for tethering it won't work.
He also said there is much confusion within the company's sales staff regarding the GN. At the time I picked up mine, he said they hadn't really received training on the device yet; or for that matter much info at all. So, this could all be wrong.
Just to clarify I was talking about the LTE Verizon Galaxy Nexus with a free tethering plan as an alternative to the one from Verizon for anyone who was wondering

I checked the device to find it rooted running an older version of EGB and Franco's kernel! Surprise surprise I thought to myself~

Lol thats pretty funny most phones on display when i walk into a rogers store I find, (here in Canada) are either off or have like a fake screen taped on the screen.
Question though what was the process of rooting the G1 if you were able to do it without a computer and in the store?

I'm going to activate it on Sprint. Airwatch is a BYOD administration application. It detects among other things, whether the device is rooted. Then it invalidates your device. There doesn't seem to be a workaround. They fix every exploit as soon as it's implemented.

With AT&T I'm more afraid of their updates and automated downloads/flashes than malware... lol, still on Pie.
Best to keep updates blocked, let it roll out and see how many get rolled over by it.
Give it a couple weeks and then decide.
With Q I'm still not satisfied enough to load it and as such the backlog of security updates remain pending.
Whatever.

Thank you for your reply but mine is specific to the Note 10+ 5G, so what you suggest is like comparing Apples to Oranges. I have noticed also as you can see by the photos originally supplied, although it tells me the update failed, the software version has changed and that may be why it also says there is no update available. I may actually be running the later version or not, there is no way to really tell, either way it was handled very sloppily by Verizon and is concerning.
However, I have also heard, Google will be discontinuing the Pixel line of phones so as they say, every company is screwed up, they are just screwed up different ways...!

The August update is a battery hog and it's also caused Bluetooth issues. If I didn't have to wipe the phone, I'd go back to the July update. Maybe enough people complained and they quietly pulled it.

Once I get a stable load that's running well, I leave it alone. Been running both Windows and Android like this for many years with very little trouble. As you are keenly aware of tracking down an update issue can be very time consuming*. Many times a hard reset due to malware be easier. Malware on Android has caused me only one hard reset in over 6 years.
I herd dinosaurs, lol, I take a conservative approach to updates because many times the cure is worse than the disease. A bare bones updated Windows or Android machine runs faster... I hate waiting.
Carriers are partnered with Samsung and jam their own crapware and app graphics "updates" in their too on OS upgrades.
These can make it usable... I remember the horror of Lollipop on my S4+, destroyed it... thanks AT&T. Not.
That's one reason I'm still running on Pie... with no issues.
*may be a settings issue. My Pie load runs best with all power management turned off especially 3rd party including Samsung. A new update means a Google search won't yield many solutions for it.
The first app I block is AT&T updates... no joke.
