I'm not sure how much people have tried this out yet, but has anyone managed to successfully play videos via dlna (connected media tab in galleries)
eg. i can play an avi file perfectly locally on the device.
but everytime i try to stream it via windows media server/orb media server, i get the message 'Sorry this video cannot be played'
anyone else?
maybe something htc needs to fix?
Tried resetting your router? Maybe thats it.
I tried this and had mixed results: Tversity on win 7 would serve up the videos but none would play. Normal shared folder would let me play .mp4 but not .avi
Ooer!

I am trying to figure out how to enable a 2nd player in the unit, on first run it pops up and asks me which player to use, but only the supplied mplayer is available, if i could get it to see say rockplayer, then these issues would go away

I agree, I'm feeling this is another bug, mainly because the local video playback using htc video player (or whatever its called) is intermittently useless. sometimes it works, sometimes it plays the first five seconds and stops, sometimes not at all. All on the same video at different times.
vplayer works fine though..
also it seems unlikely that resetting the router will help, as airvideo via my iphone works fine, but i will try later on when at home again.
Haven't tried this yet, but have you checked that you have all the right codecs installed on your pc? I know windows media player has a hard time with certain codec's and file types where as vlc player doesn't, yet i don't know how this would sit when streaming video.

I think this is an issue with playback of videos on the phone, not on the computer...
If the file plays back fine on the computer, then it's not gonna be a codec problem (from the computer's side anyway).
Having this problem too. Is someone going to contact HTC?

I have very similar results. Using Windows 7's Media Player Streamer I can browse all my videos , music and photos , but none of these can be played (the server works ok,'coz I still can play videos and other media from other PC). I've some better results with XBMC's media stream (UPNP server) the photos works fine, but still can't play other media.
I can't manage to open the DHD's video, audio or images using DLNA connection.
At the beginning I think that the problem is with codecs, but since this media is opened with no problem once it copied on the phone I'm sure there is a problem with the player playing content over UPNP connection.
I had that kind of issues with an old ubuntu install, but all was fixed when installed VLC Player, so I hope someone can make a good port of VLC to android.
I've managed to playback mp3s and looked at pictures stored on my computer via my phone, so that part is OK, but videos are a no-go, which is a shame.
Very simple answer to this people.
The Desire HD and Z does not support "Play To" Receiver
Because of this AVI wont work.
Just check DLNA's website.
Compare it to bluetooth,
Both are very sensitive to compatibility and such
Never mind...

Well that's just stopped me buying the HTC Media Link, like htcsense.com they big this up in their adverts and then can't deliver.
Avi seems not to work, but I've managed to stream to my phone .mp4 files.

some avi files have actually started playing. most stop within a few seconds though.. if it can do this, why not the whole video?
Also i did check DLNAs website, and they've actually certified the Desire HD as a M-DMP device. I know they've only tested it with images (according to the certificate) however the description of a M-DMP device is:
These wireless devices find and play content on a digital media server (DMS) or mobile digital media server (M-DMS).
Examples: mobile phones and mobile media tablets designed for viewing multimedia content.
So it must be a HTC bug? (based on the fact that it DOES play the start of some files and that it is M-DMP certified..)
EDIT: well it must be a codec thing.. rockplayer plays all these files fine.. even locally the 'Videos/gallery' app can't play them all. Maybe HTC should use ffmpeg like rockplayer.. then it might just work
I spend many hours trying to figure this out , all but streaming video don't work ..any suggestions ?
Me too, but if only

Me too, but if only there was a way of making vplayer (since that plays everything so far) the default player when a video is clicked on from the connected media view
Same problem here.
1. Connected Home on Samsung Omnia 2(Win6.1/6.5) works
2. Doest work on Samsumg Galaxy Tab (froyo 2.2)
3. Doesnt work on Desire HD (pic, music, video)
So can I assume its something to do with Android?
same problems here with the HTC Media Link. far too many video files play ok on my htc desire from win7 pc using Skifta.
i've been attempting to find successful filetype/bitrate settings through freemake video converter (which allows hard-coding of subtitles) with little success when pushing to the media link.
Q. does anyone know a guaranteed filetype, bitrate, size which works through media link?
Q. are there any XDA devs working on a rom to fix this thing? excellent hardware in need of a little homebrew tweak if ever there was
It works fine on my DHD with Sabsa Prime V16 no issues at all. (Audio /Video/ Photos)

Great Room amazing smooth. However:
- no bluetooth pairing with car
- not able to watch a movie with VLC app
Any suggestion, help?

But you are authorized to open new ones asking support for _beta_ roms? It is supposed to be broken.

Tried MX video player and did not work. maybe is because does not read all the formats like VLC
using astro to locate the file in the SD. The file being .avi and not playing with MX Video
sorted. I just needed to activate the decoder. stupid me

I had no problems bluetooth pairing with my Audi A4 car kit.
Just searched for car bluetooth device from my HTC Desire, then connected. Was asked for PIN Number, just entered 0000, same with my car. Finished!
Have a more stable connection than with an earlier LeeDroid Version.
In MX Player I also selected software driver (fast).
While trying to use hardware acceleration. had only black screen.
try to install the decoder package aswell. on market too

If I'm not mistaken, player downloads necessary codecs after first launch.
I just got a nice deal on the Galaxy Nexus which included the Samsung Multimedia Dock which has HDMI output.
I connected my HDMI cable and docked my phone but while playing XviD files only the audio comes through and not the video. The TV just shows a blue Android guy and thats it.
Anyone know of a work around for this problem?
I tried different player apps and nothing worked yet.
I can play videos from the Play store through HDMI just fine, it's my own video files that I have trouble with.
Appreciate the help! :good:
So far encoding the file to a compatible format with HandBrake has made it work. This is a pain though. Must be that the Dock doesn't support some encoding profiles/formats.
I really hope I am not the only one with this issue. I recently purchased the official Samsung MHL 2.0 cable and noticed that when streaming YouTube or any other video through the regular web browser the audio cuts out and back in every few minutes. Although it is something I can live with it is rather annoying. Is this a known issue with this tablet?
Doesn't happen with my generic eBay cable, so no.
Get yourself a chromecast and do away with silly wires.
Thanks for the quick reply!
My Wifi kinda sucks so unfortunately Chromecast won't do me much good. I'm going to try a factory reset and if that doesn't work I'll have to return the tablet.
Maybe try a different browser or use semper vidlinks or vget to stream online videos through a media player, highly recommend mxplayer for this. As for you tube I would use the app not the browser.
Yea I think the YouTube app works, but I don't want to deal with ads (also don't want to root while under warranty)
I tried both Dolphin (adblock plugin) and NoChromo which blocks ads by default, audio still cuts out for about a second every so often.
Give vget and mxplayer a go. You can also use web video caster to do the same thing. Between the 2 almost any online video is playable via mxplayer.
So couldn't get vget to open up any videos in mxplayer or vlc, it keeps saying video unsupported, any advice?

You need to make sure that you are on the page where the playable video that you want is. Semper vidlinks is good for extracting links from web pages.
Try the page below it contains several different types that should all play with vget or web video caster.
http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html
Open the page then select share from the menu options in your browser, select vget, you should see the orange download arrow for each video link. Click any then select mxplayer.
For web video caster, do the same but when clicking the video link, select options then open with.
I managed to route the video through VLC but the issue still persists. I ended up returning the Tab only to find that I am having the exact same issue on my second one! At this point I am going to say it may be a compatibility issue between the tablet and my crappy comcast modem/router. Are you by any chance able to recommend a good router to go with this Tablet?
BTW I really appreciate all the help you have provided thus far!

Your router? Does that mean you are streaming media to your device and then to your TV via mhl? Have you tried playing a media file direct from your device to the TV?
No just streaming media on the tablet and hooking it up to the TV using the MHL cable. I don't know what else to do, I tested my Galaxy S5 and it plays fine, so I know it's not the cables.
EDIT: Yes videos stored locally on the tablet play fine on the TV, the problem only occurs when streaming anything.
How is the tablet connecting to your router, 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
Doesn't your TV support dlna? Most modern tv's do.
I am not sure about the tablet connection, is that something I should look into?
Our TV is almost 5 years old, we got it right before smart TV's really became a thing

Sometimes it helps to switch bands and/or Wi-Fi channels as interference can affect the connection.
Look at your tablet Wi-Fi settings it will tell you which band it is connected to.
Yea I changed channels a while ago and I also changed both DNS' to google's
How are you streaming to your tablet, which app are you using? Does the streamed media play OK on your tablet?
All streamed media be it via the browser, XBMC or VLC has the audio cutting out for about a second roughly every 5 minutes or so.

So it's the same playing on your tablet even without mhl?
Sorry had to do a quick test, videos play fine when not connected to the TV. Could it be an incompatibility issue between the TV and/or Soundbar? I know the cables are good because I tested my phone.
So the issue is tab to TV? Have you tried any lower definition movies?
Also does music play OK on its own or still stutter?
Hello All,
Apologies for asking it here but it is in a way related to OP3 as well. So i will buy a new LCD TV next week probably. And chromecast seems like a great gadget to have. So, my queries are to people who already own chromecast and OP3/Laptop.
1. Would i need internet connection to stream offline content like my videos and tv shows downloaded or it can't stream those?
2. Will it stream just the video or both Audio/Video to the LCD? I am asking this cause i would want to listen the audio through the headphones but the video via chromecast streaming. Is it possible? (You know why i need these "private" moments sometimes, lol)
3. Does it only work with specific applications + Chrome Browser or can i stream a file playing on VLC player to the LCD as well?
