problems with Cyanogenmod 13 update and gapps - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

My tablet (Nexus 7, 2013 flo) just updated to Cyanogenmod 13 (snapshot, I was previously using the latest snapshot version of 12). it was an automatic update, where it let me know that there was snapshot version for download, then let me download it and install automatically.
When I re-started the tab my google apps were fussy so I realised I needed to update gapps. I downloaded (from opengapps) the pico version for Android 6.0 and flashed it (using twrp 2.8.7). After that I rebooted. Now as soon as I boot up, it pops up the notification "unfortunately setupwizard has stopped" and a variety of "Google play services/youtube/gmail/etc have stopped" notifications. As soon as I click OK the notification returns so I am unable to interact with the system at all.
What have I done wrong? How do I fix it? help please.

Perhaps it is also broken on N7?

Maybe it was that. Impatience got the better of me and I ended up getting the latest TWRP, downloading CM13 from their site and reinstalling everything (I had hoped to avoid that because of reinstalling everything but I'm not good at waiting). Something in he mix worked anyway and it's all fine now. (Except Neko Atsume which does not store anywhere and has to start over LOL).

[Q] Problem with YouTube and Play Music (CM 10.1)

I just installed the CM10.1 Nightly from 1/13/13 and installed it over the last stable build (10.0). Now, when I boot my phone I get messages from time to time (a few an hour) about Youtube not working and Google Play Music not working. These are probably some of my most used apps and its really sucking not having them working. I upgraded Gapps to a 4.2 version and I still have the same issue. Any ideas?

Did you install the new "Gapps" package?
Edit: didn't see you installed the latest gapps.
Did you try going into settings>apps>all apps and hitting "clear data" for the affected apps? Also, make sure there are no google play updates for those apps.
If all else fails, I would first try reflashing the Gapps package and maybe CM 10.1 as well, and if reflashing doesn't work, then do a factory reset.
BTW, I flashed 10.1 and 4.2 Gapps over 10.0 and had no problems. There were some updates that needed dling though

My Gapps never said 121212 however it did say it was compatible with 4.2. Downloading the 121212 one now, gonna flash and try that. Also, I cleared data and checked for updates to no avail.
Thank you for the speedy reply!
Alright, so that didn't work. Still greeted with "Youtube has stopped working" and "Google Play Music has stopped working" upon booting. Is there no other things I can try? I feel like factory reset is unsafe and will probably make me lose data. haha.
Fixed it! Just uninstalled both apps and reinstalled them fresh from the Play Store. Thank you for the help either way!

T311 - Cyano 12.1 and Facebook

Hello all,
i'm having some fun installing roms on my T311 tablet, but it seems to me that the most "stable" and "usable" one is the cyano 12.1.
Now, the problem. I can't get the facebook app installed (i always get and "error -504"), and i really don't know why.
Obviously i've googled for a while, but i've tried:
- clearing cache of google apps
- wiping cache from recovery
- new install of cyano+gapps
and nothing worked.
I've also tried to install a different gapps than "open gapps" i have, but i got an error flashing (clean cyano install), so i turned back to open gapps.
The strange thing is that with cyano13 (with the same open gapps..) it works. With other roms, it works. It's only cyano 12.1..
What can i try?
thanks
(last twrp installed, if you need it..)

Got some strange behavior on 03.23 nightly. When somebody calls me - gui is restarting until call ends and caller hears usual beeps. On 21 or 20 ( forgot) nightly all was working.
Update. Flashed back 21 nightly, incoming call is working again, after flash got android.process.acore is stopped error. To fix it all you need is go to apps find Contacts Storage and clear data.

I'm also on the 23 nightly with the incoming call issue. Have you tried any of the later nightlies?
Also seem to have a problem with gapps. Whenever I flash it, I get an error: "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped".
Apart from these, cm13 runs just fine
Just want to report that on the 25 nightly, bluetooth audio still doesn't work. Guess I have to go back to stone-age tech - wired earbuds.

One of matrix's latest unofficial build has bluetooth audio (14th).
I'm hoping the nightlies will get the fix (or revert?) soon.

Iirc, some people couldn't get Bluetooth calls to work on the 3/14 unofficial, but media was working, and it's the reverse on the 3/13 build. Could be wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am.
No you're correct, I use more my phone for bluetooth media than bluetooth calls these days and forgot.
Has anyone tried the latest nightly? (26)
Heads up to anyone who's just about to flash cm13 for the first time..flash gapps immediately after cm13 before you reboot so you don't have to go through what I went through.
If per adventure you do flash gapps after rebooting and you run into some glitches, just calm down and follow these steps:
1. Go to settings>apps and grant setup wizard all permissions
2. Delete data/system/users/0/runtime-permissions.xml
That should resolve all Google play error popups
Coming from lollipop 5.1.1 did you guys factory reset installing 6.0 Marshmallow? If so any problems restoring TB backups?

I went cm 11 -> 12 -> 13 . only thing I did moving between major versions was wipe dalvik, cache, and system and then flash ROM and then gapps and reboot.
Latest nightly is running pretty solid. Only issues I've come across is a few Front Facing Camera hiccups. Also, whenever I send or receive a MMS my data symbol has an exclamation point and stops working. The only workaround I've come across is to toggle airplane mode but, this becomes rather bothersome as I am in numerous group chats and constantly toggling airplane mode is rather annoying. This issue isn't present when on wifi.

I have issues with constant Google Services and Google Play Store stopped working messages.
These are the ways I tried to install CM13, I used TWRP 3 and I did a full format (wipe cache dalvik data and repart).
1) Flashed CM13-latest, Flashed GAPPS-6-latest, rebooted.
2) Flashed CM13-latest, rebooted, flashed GAPPS-6-latest, rebooted.
Method #1 makes the phone loop on "Checking software updates" during the setup wizard.
Method #2 makes the phone constantly pop-up messages about google stuff stopped working.
I tried your method but it did not work. Setup Wizard had already all of its permissions, I removed the xml file and my phone rebooted and it did the usual "optimizing app x of x".
I don't know what to do... The phone is not really usable.

google play not responding after CM13 install

today i installed cyanogenmod CM13 and gapps on my asus zenfone 2, the install went fine, but when i booted my phone, i selected the language, then when it went to look for updates, a system message appeared "google play services has stopped", which has caused the phone to hang at the update page, and to top it off i forgot to install TWRP, so i think im going to have an issue installing a fresh install.
does anybody have any ideas as to what i can do please?
+1 same problem
https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/issues/200
This is a CM bug (not relating to our device), showing up on a lot of devices since 3/26 builds. Chances are it will be fixed soon.

Use GApps Pico/Nano package. I am facing this issue if I use Stock GApps Package. But it goes fine with Pico/Nano Pacage...

Just got ze551 and updated CM. Now can't install google play services/play store

I'm not sure what to do here. I just got my Zenfone 2 (ze551ml/z00a) and noticed I had a notification for a system update and foolishly thought it would be no big deal to proceed to install it. I think it was on CM 12.1 previously and the update was for CM 13 but not sure but after it updated it axed pretty much all the apps that were on it including any Google services. Wouldn't be a big deal since the update was literally the first thing I've done with the phone after porting #/service---haven't imported contacts or anything---but I can't just download an APK of the Play store or Google services. I've tried this through APK downloads and through the Google installer app (which is in Chinese regardless of whether I got it off the xiaomi market or not). The results weren't much different with each attempt. I get either "There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later" when trying to sign in when launching play store or""Google Play services won't run unless you update Google Play services.", which I cannot do.
So I can't really do much of anything right now with the phone and really regret installing the CM update. I got Open Gapps but (x86, 6.0, full I think?) but I'm not sure what to do with it. I have experience rooting phones and have rooted my last two phones but I'm no expert when it comes to smartphones. I just want this phone to be usable again, I don't care whether I am using stock or cyanogenmod. How can I get Google services and alike to run is open gapps the solution or do I need to find some recovery rom to try to flash to? I've seen so many completely different solutions to this that I don't know where to go from here. I did a factory reset but that had no effect and the solutions I tried here thus far haven't worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you leave a bitcoin wallet address and your solution helps I'll gladly send you a tip for your efforts. Thanks!!
Have you tried reformatting, and flashing gapps and rom? The phone settings was likely tinkered.
What recovery have you got loaded ? If twrp which it should be , being on cm ? Cm 13.1 gets updates and notifications for updates , so download gapps for android 6 x86 ..boot into recovery and flash latest gapps .
What build number date etc ?

Not sure which recovery, it had like 6 grey square-ish buttons when I entered it last time. But when you say 'download gapps' you mean get Open Gapps right? I booted into recovery mode with the zip of it but didn't have a guide handy so I didn't mess with it. So I was on the right track it sounds like, I'll give that a shot with a guide and reply here with the results.

Don't have youtube or any google apps unfortunately, the update to CM 13 removed most of the apps.
Yes just head over to cm 13 for z00a if your device in " original android development section"? , and follow cm flashing instructions ,
What build number and date of build installed ?

I guess I got ahead of myself. I tried installing open gapps from recovery, looked like it worked so I wiped cache and after the phone started I just get a barrage of "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" and 'play store has stopped" over and over again. So now I can't check what version I have but I know it was CM 13 and one of the latest three available nightly builds with android 6.0.1, I did try installing the 'official' google apps first but I got an error like "unable to update file" or something---guessing I should have tried unlocking the bootloader first? The official unlocker tool is an .apk so now thats off the table. But if this phone has TWRP on it then doesn't that mean the previous owner already unlocked it (I bought it used)? Should I try unlocking first or go straight to flashing CM13?
I'm assuming you are saying to get the CM 13 ROM for z00A from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen.../rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightly-builds-t3264492
I'll download that and give it a shot.
edit:
Do I want the .zip for CM13 (CM Build) or the recovery (.img) or both? screenshot. the guide isn't really clear. I'm going into recovery/TWRP to see if I can find out my version # of CM---I think its the version from 5/23 but I'm not sure
Well the guide is straight forward , you will have download new twrp and flash that for future updates to flash correctly , there are tonnes of threads to get you back up and running around here , take your time ..enjoy .
You say you cannot boot into system so put all files on SD card and select storage in twrp ..flash ROM ..gapps .. and latest twrp ..so you can back up at earliest instance
If any probs , try YouTube ..there's a few vids for flashing cm13 on zen 2

Updated TWRP to v3 first then flashed CM13 from the thread I linked above (the zip, not the img). along with the x86-nano version of opengapps. Worked perfectly. Wish I would have done that from the start instead of messing around with trying to get opengapps to work without the flashed CM and whatnot. Seems to be running perfect, got bunch of apps off play store already with no problem getting my contacts and other Google stuff.
Thanks for the pushes in the right direction!:good::good::good::good:
Now the ZF2 is starting to grow on me, got it instead of waiting for the HTC One A9 price to drop and I'm feeling like I made the right call.
Great news , better that you sorted it yourself .
Now save a back up on PC and keep forever lol just in case
