Is this considered a good smartphone vs. the Samsung S4 ? - Sprint LG G2

i have just baught a used LS980 from ebay because the screen size looked exactly what i wanted and the processing power seamed strong enough for my use.
the price of this item has droped soo much the last few months that now i am starting to have second thoughts maybe this particular LG is not made durable.
anyone can share experiance with this device ?
is there any real differance between the variants D800,D802, VS980 and LS980 (exept from the korean f320)?
regards

I got an LG G2 from Freedompop for $70. It was a used device but in good condition. In addition, Freedompop offers free service from Sprint network. I am very pleased about this purchase.

Here's a comparison of Galaxy S4 vs LG G2.
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g2_vs_samsung_galaxy_s4-review-984.php
I also got mine from Freedompop for $70 with $15 cashback. The G2 is an excellent phone and I really like its minimal bezels. One big drawback of an S4 is AMOLED is prone to burn-in and a used device might already have noticeable burn-in. The blue subpixels also wear out much faster so over time, it might have some noticeable color degradation. The G2 being IPS LCD, the screen should look perfect for as long as you have it.

Just my opinion here..
S4 has a better screen that's easier on battery life;
G2 has a better processor and a bigger battery.
I prefer the side rockers of the S4, but I have a G2 and overall think it's a better phone.

Optimus G recommended or not?

Hi all,
I have a Desire HD at the moment and it remains strong, bar the slow CPU strains a bit.
I was thinking of the HTC One and S4 but really these are too pricey.
So in pops this phone. I've read it has glass breakage issues / slippery / drops, but how does it compare as a handset overall minus these issues?
They are on special for $379 AU for the 32GB version which seems great. But worthless if the phones is a dog.
Cheers.
I love this phone. It's very fast (even using stock rom) with no lag, and stable. The screen is very nice. The battery life is great (I get 3-4 days on light use). I read the same thing about the glass breakage, but that can be helped with a good case. Before the LGOG, I've used a Moto Atrix, Samsung S2 HD LTE, and LG Optimus 4G. Here in Canada, the LGOG can be purchase used/mint for $200-$250 (in the low end) so it was a no-brainer for me to upgrade from the other phones.
hmm. i came from an HTC one X, i could say that this phone is definitely more zippy and has better battery life. and i really appreciate the LTE capability.
it's definitely a good buy for the price tag. sure you could get a phone with better internals and bigger battery life, but it would cost you more. best bang for the buck at this price point.
one of the biggest drawbacks would be expandable storage, this doesn't have a memory card slot, which limits you to the on board 32gb (~25gb user accessible).

E975 Optimus G India version
I'm thinking of buying this phone in India. There are a few issues that I came across. I like this better than the Nexus 4 for the storage, and I hope the custom ROMs here take care of the timely software updates that N4 will receive.
- Glass crack - What I could gather is that, most frequent cause for the back glass to crack is sudden temperature change. That would make me think, it is not so frequent in my city, given that there are no rapid temperature changes. Indoor and outdoor vary by max 10 degree Celsius, through the year.
A related question would be about the best case to prevent this.
- LTE support - In some places I see that LTE is not supported on this version, but few forums suggest otherwise.

Just snagged a used G2

I bricked my OGP and after too many hours failing to flash stock on it I sent it to get the $50 MobileTechVideos.com treatment (they provide great service). In the meantime I bought a G2 on fleabay with broken glass for $115, also got a $60 LCD assembly. The G2 is a really easy phone to work on so screen replacement is quick and painless.
I have been using the G2 for a few days and couldn't help sharing battery life. My OGP had set a new standard for battery life but I could never get much over 3hrs screen on and still have 24hrs of use. Below is what the G2 can do in a stockish state (plenty of xposed tweaking on stock kk).
OK another useless thread ... Mod please close

Before you close the thread, my two cents:
I had a G2 for a couple of weeks but couldn't afford to keep it. My opinion: It rocks! I mean, the battery life on that thing is just out of this world sick!
I'm just left wondering what the secret is to that technology? How did they do it?
Not only that, but the screen is so bright in the sunlight as well! And its a good feel in the hands. I wish my OGP were as bright in the sun. But I gotta say, my OGP is a bit brighter than the Note2 I just sold for $118.
Just read tyhe anandtech G2 review..there is a big section on battery life, with details on how a combo of the snapdragon 800 and power saving during static display leads to such good battery life on the g2

[Q] Quad HD display : deal breaker or buying factor?

I am interested to know if the quad HD display was a buying factor for you guys or instead it was a deal breaker? ; Personally for me I find the Lg G3 great (I wanted to buy the G2 last year but there's no sd-card slot and removable battery) but the quadHD display is a deal breaker for me : it eats battery, increase temperature, reduced brightness and performance and you can hardly notice a diff between 1080p and 2k.
Vote guys thx
At first it was a huge factor since it was a rare upgrade to 1080p. The 1440p screen was only seemingly noticeable when first viewing it but in hindsight I realize there was no added detail in things like web viewing. Even the extra pixel detail in 2k videos is a bit too squashed to fully realize its clarity. I also bought it for what I thought would be speed, performance and battery life. It really hasn't lived up to anything except its design aesthetic. To me its just my smartphone now and not my top of the line smartphone. I can only hope future Android updates will improve the performance of this phone since it really has some amazing specs and is more than capable of delivering a good user experience.

I love the design too but performance looks pretty poor and I don't think updates will fix it... it is limited because of that 2k display, which tbh is just a gimmick.
Note 4 is rumoured to be a 2k display which will use the snapdragon 804 which lead to believe snapdragon 801 is not really meant for 2k display in the first place.
So what phone are you looking to buy? S3 S4 Sony SP G2 or G3
Your recent posts are very interesting!
For me the QHD display wasn't a selling point or a deal breaker for me when considering the G3. The other device I was considering was the Xperia Z2 but I was ultimately put off the Z2 by how insistent Sony was in releasing a replacement every 6 months (and lo and behold, its being announced in a week or so). What I liked the look of about the G3 was the fact it was pretty much the only Android phone left with OIS (something I really appreciated on my HTC One and was crestfallen when they removed it from the M8) and that it had a removable battery in a body that actually looked and felt (surprisingly) premium while having a larger display in a similar sized body to other flagships.
Concerning the display, I don't feel that the 1440p resolution is a bad idea. Whether we like it or not, this is where all mobile devices (flagships atleast) will be heading towards very soon, so to be an early adopter will always have teething problems. I think that the Snapdragon 801 is not the problem here that the performance "issues" people are experiencing are down to the software and restrictions put in place to control heat (which can be disabled but frankly, LG should try and focus on improving in this area and build their phones to a slightly higher standard, I guess this is probably the reason why you can find LG's flagships for 2/3 the price of competitors after a few months, there is evidently some cost cutting going on somewhere). Also coming from the One M7, while its display was fantastic (brilliant whites, spot on colours, great viewing angles), the G3's display is really not that much worse, my observations picking up that its not as bright (but still usable outside) and the whites do look a faint greyer. But the tiny bezels on the G3 are a worth it over those small niggles for me.
As much as I have enjoyed my G3 over the last month and a half, my biggest issue with the G3 is the locked bootloader and LG's reluctance to embrace third party developer practises. Many other OEMs such as Sony, HTC and Motorola now offer bootloader unlock processes for their devices, while LG is being far from transparent regarding the issue with mixed messages coming from various channels of communication. Hopefully with the G3 being a sales success for them, this may get them to reconsider.

still not sure... but it seems most probably i will break the bank and get a s5 although i like the g3 but too many issues

[Q] LG G3 is will worth it?

yes or no? i have iphone 5s
i was thiking about buying galaxy 6.. but then i understood i don't care about benchmarks/heavy games
i want a phone that smooth and great camera..
In my country samsung 6 will cost 907, and LG G3 costs 480 dollars.
IF i will buy LG G3, i will buy LG G4 only if it's worth upgrade
Pondering the same... Samsung galaxy s 6 would've been great if it included a removable battery. I like to know whether I can use a phone long term without fear of the battery dying.
This is my experience with the phone so far. I've been using it for about 3 weeks and I don't have many negatives to complain about.
I came from a Nexus 5 and I was quite reluctant to buy a phone with a heavy skin on top of the android OS.
First of all, you will really appreciate how LG was able to fit a 5.5" screen into a phone that is not as large as other 5.5" phones. It is still a fairly large phone, but not to the point where it's difficult to use.
Secondly, the lollipop update has been pretty great. It feels snappier and smoother than it did on kitkat. I don't think the phone is as snappy as the S6 since it has an older processor, but I don't personally feel the quad HD screen affects the processor and graphics whatsoever. On top of that, the G3 still has one of the most pixel dense displays on the market, even being almost a year old.
If you are concerned about not being able to replace the battery, the G3 is still a great option as most manufacturers seem to be going with sealed-in batteries, unless you go with the Note series.
As mentioned earlier, I don't have many negatives to complain about other than the screen being dimmer than other displays, but that's just me nitpicking because honestly it isn't a big deal to me.
I've had the opposite experience from Yaminashi. I've had the G3 since it first came out. I have not had a smooth experience. It was livable, but barely. I just moved to something else. The thing I miss the most about the g3 are the buttons on the back.
I would say no this phone is one of the worst I have owned, it heats up so much and performance is so slow compared to other phones. They should have made the screen 1080p and it would have been great.

Lg g5 vs htc 10... Evidently no contest

I admit that initially I was expecting the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge to be the best phone out there. However when we ran into the bootloader issue and more news about the LG G5 came out I was definitely attracted to the possibility of having the LG G5 and a better product possibly than made by Samsung. The rumors and upcoming details about the HTC 10 phone were also in the back of my mind. However after reading the below article I think that we have all made a very wise decision.
http://www.cnet.com/products/htc-10-review/
Going to end up like M9
They just can't get over the hurdle
I'd take the 10 over the G5 any day, but to each his own.

What issues are you having with your G5?
After reading the review I am glad I bought the G5 as there is really very little difference between the phones in the review. I have had HTC in the past as well as Motorola and will buy neither again. My last 4 phones have been LG and I loved them all.
have to say, having both the S7 Edge (exynos) and the LG G5, i actually prefer the LG. It's just as fast and the headphone quality much better.
Other than the fact that I love a Super AMOLED screen such as on the S7 Edge I will have to say that between the three top phones out today the G5 to me is the best. However I must admit that the LCD screen on the G5 is quite excellent for what it represents in LCD technology. It's definitely the best LCD screen on a phone that I've seen. However like I said before tell me the perfect G5 would have been if it came with a Super AMOLED screen.
IMHO, most of it's subjective..
Especially sicne G5 still has no root, and the 10 looks like it will almost out of the starting gate. For me, root's more important than friggin' benchmarks, or camera quality, etc.
Removable battery, on screen buttons, solid camera (as good as or better than my s6e), and the potential for AOSP ROMs: I'm happy with my choice. Looking forward to the 360 cam and my extra battery and charging cradle!
I am not at all excited for the HTC 10 or any other HTC product for that matter. To me they are very close to being irrelevant at all.
Right now I dont anticipate finding anything to replace my G5 until maybe the Fall LG release (whatever comes after the LG V10). The phone has its flaws in the build quality, but there is nothing horrible & the phone has a ton going for it. Overall I am happy with it, much more so then I was with my S7 (though the s7 form factor was better in my opinion).
HTC will always have a place in my heart and I hope they do well with the 10, for the markets sake. However, the lg g5, in my opinion is excellent. The quality of the screen, build(I don't have any problems that others might have) the ability to easily replace a battery, the modular design with actual modular items that are functional, and the camera(as a parent fast reliable cameras are a must) and lastly, lg sticking with a micro sd to go along with the great camera. The HTC 10 will have superior sound production and might have better antennas which the HTC m9 gave me the best reception of any phone I've ever owned. The lg g5 has faired excellent in that department. Unfortunately for htc, I will be sticking with the lg g5(for now)?
Not impressed with the G5
I am definitely not impressed with the G5 and if the HTC 10 was out a bit earlier I would have gotten it over the G5. I have light bleed along the bottom of my screen over to the bottom right, poor audio quality (since I won't be getting the DAC since I live in the states), the battery dies quickly, I can look right through the gap between the module and the phone, and the bump for the camera is also hideous. With all that being said it was definitely a better buy over the Galaxy S7. The S7 sounds worse through headphones according to some(I can't believe that's actually possible), No removable battery, and a crappy loud speaker. If only the V10 had shipped with the 810...
My G5 is flawless. Sound is great. Display is great. Perfect construction.
Other people have different opinions it would seem:

I'm still more than happy with my G5. Feels light years better than my s6e.

Glad to hear it. I just ordered one and currently have an S6 I'll be trading in coming from ATT.

The on screen buttons HTC has adopted is a deal breaker for me. Also, I'm a huge fan of the camera features on the G5 along with the added super wide lens, and the ir blaster, the list goes on.. It's more of the full package for me.. Can you tell I love this phone
A good read for those all in with the G5.
http://m.androidcentral.com/love-letter-lg-g5s-wide-angle-camera
I had issues with my first G5, when I put in an SD card, it wouldn't recognize the SIM card OR the SD card, when I got my second one it had a small burn in with the bottom right corner in the LCD, so on the third one I like it, I've got my spare battery and charger on the way and so far... so good. I got it for the modularity as I'm a HUGE fan of Project Ara and Puzzlephone and if a manufacturer is going to support modularity (even in a micro fashion) I want to support them. Plus since the LG Thrill (Last LG phone I've had), they've come SO far with their software... it's not even funny there.
So far with the 10d update all is perfect on my 2 G5s. Very happy with them.
