Achieving Root Help! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I have a s6 edge plus SM-G928T
Android Version 5.1.1
Baseband version G928TUVS2COKC
Build number LMY47X.G928TUVS2COKC
Android security patch level 2015-12-01
Now all that is listed I am trying to achieve root on my phone but I am confused on which is the best method. I dont care about knox or samsung pay. I do care about finger print scanner though so if anybody can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated
Thank you very much

Not sure if there is a best method or not. Just what works or not based on not caring about knox.
Have you looked at autoroot from chainfire?
https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
Used that on my S6 edge and worked great.

Considering that root is achieved at the kernel level, you should look in the specific threads for your phone and not ours. This thread is for 925t, not 928t. Edge, not edge+

S4 T-Mobile Root Help!

Hey there folks! I'm looking to root my S4 but I'm having trouble locating the files I need to download so I can be rooted & if I can still root my S4.
My S4 Info
Model #: SGH-M919
Android Version: 4.4.4
Baseband Version: M919UVUFNK2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-2437203 [email protected] #1 Mon Nov 17 19:20 KST 2014
Build Number: KTU84P.M919UVUFNK2
SE for Android Status: Enforcing SEPF_SGH-M919_4.4.4_0032 Wed Oct 15 17:16:50
Secure Boot Status: Samsung
Security Software Version:
MDF v1.0 Release 3
VPN v1.4 Release 2
So with all of this info, can someone please direct me (preferably via a link to the proper thread) to ALL the files I need in order to root. I've been browsing through some of the How-To threads already but nothing is really set-in-stone if the FNK2 4.4.4 Firmware is rootable? I've also been out of the Root Game for a long while (over a year) since I last rooted anything and I totally forgot how to root. So can someone remind me how to root? For my build# S4, do I use the drag-and-drop file loading OR Odin 3.6 program on a computer to do it?? Also, keep-in-mind.... I want to keep root as close as possible to stock 4.4.4.
Thank you for any detailed info.
I second this, I have the same build and all that but the only thing I can really find on it is to downgrade to 4.4.2 and do towel root. Not sure if this is the only way or not currently.
Google Chainfire's S4 root.
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu
Pp.
So this is the closest thing I found on the www.autoroot.chainfire.eu site:
samsung SGH-M919 jfltetmo jfltetmo MSM8960 msm8960 KTU84P.M919UVUFNH7 4.4.4 24 067 069 Download b354bc04aa16351305edfd33e85a58bf 212 032
Ummm.... I'm gonna say what I found above ^ is not the same as the Build# FNK2 that I have? Sooooo what happens now, because that still does not rectify the issue at-hand? Now correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't I brick my S4 if it tries to flash the FNH7 over my FNK2? Yeah, I don't want to do that because it would be a compatibility issue right? So like it was mentioned before, can rooting be accomplished for the FNK2 Build?
- Is it just not possible,
- is it not possible at this time because it has yet to be worked on,
OR
- do I just "test" this overwrite method of flashing FNH7 over my FNK2 and most likely end up screwing myself over with a bricked S4 because I'm going off someone's "it will/should work" (untested) hypothesis??
Note: Details about what someone did to get an FNK2 Build S4 rooted would be really nice.
Thank you.
It still works lol. Do it the same way as you would with nh7. You're not flashing firmware, just rooting. Use chainfires autoroot in odin then odin twrp or whichever recovery you prefer and you're in business. I'm running nk2 rooted right now.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Relax Spicy, Mr big is correct your not flashing firmware, it's just a temporary recovery that allows a root exploit to take place.
You then flash the corresponding recovery for your phone and now you enter the *bricking* zone, if you don't read that is.
I recommend CWM over twrp.

Thanks for the extra information. Please standby while we have your thread/question moved to the appropriate sub-forum for your device.
For future reference you can find your device forum here (bookmark/subscribe this):
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4
Within that section you will find a dedicated q&a sub-forum (this is where your thread is going to be moved to):
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!

Bacon taste good, but it's not that helpful. Lol.
You probably tried towelroot and don't work with kitkat, you may have to flash stock firmware and then use Chainfire's auto root in general section to get root.
Then you can start over.

XDA Assist (where this thread originated) isn't a general technical assistance section, the purpose of our small team is to direct the questions to the appropriate device sub-forums so that people like yourself (who are familiar with the devices) can take over and lend a helping hand to those who need it.
I'm familiar with your guidance in these matters, just adding a little humor to the thread.
No harm meant.
Besides I'm a BIG fan of BACON.

Cool, thanks for lending some assistance to these people in need.

hey pp i admit i did try towelroot but as soon as i tried it it said your device cannot be rooted at this time ( or to that effect) lol il be honest i cant remember what i used but it was a server bassed application thats all i remember my main concern is i wont be able to get it sim unlocked as desperatly need to get off t-mobile lmao many thanks mad
Well metro Sim card will work with t-mobile without unlocking sim, so that's an option.
But flashing stock firmware will fix whatever is borked so you have a working phone to start fresh.
Chainfire's Cf autoroot is foolproof with Odin, at that stage you can simply unlock.

New note 4 Owner: Whats next?

Hi all,
Just got my new Note 4. Have not taken any OTA updates so I am on 4.4.4 Android.
Whats next to root, debloat, and install a custom rom? Who's got the best minimalist type rom out right now? From what I've read it doesn't seem like there is much out there for 5.0 - just didn't know what the process was for this earlier version still, and how to make the update nag screen go away, or if there were any distinct advantages/disadvantages to upgrading.
Do you have the retail or developer edition?
Currently the retail edition only has temporary root which goes away after reboot. The devs are currently working on permanent root.
The developer edition has permanent root and has the ability to have custom Roms
I bought a retail version from the Verizon store, I didn't know there were differences actually? This makes me kind of sad now.
No known root method even for the older un OTA updated setup? Thats very unfortunate...
There is is a root method for the 4.4.4 kitkat. It's just temporary at the moment.
Like I mentioned, the developers are working on making it permanent right now.

Thanks - looks like I'm just sitting tight for now then, I'll check back in a few days.
You can still try the temp heres the link kingroot.net/root

Safestrap and root?

Is safestrap a viable option since everything is so locked down on this device? I remember when I bought the s4 for Verizon, safestrap was my only saving grace. Will delete if this question has been answered. I can't find it anywhere though. Also, what are the chances of root actually being obtained because everything seems pretty grim to me. I can't even find any discussion on anyone even attempting to get root for 928a. Thanks much!:good:
Root, as for this phone, G928A, is slim to none. With the updates that fixed the Stagefright exploit, it's very doubtful. Safestrap will only work if there's Stable root (not temp root - like on Note 4, for example).

My only question left then is how did the at&t and verzion galaxy s6 variants obtain root? Stagefright exploit is still unfixed or did someone discover a new exploit?
They were on kitkat and able to get an exploit to work to have root. For further details, go to the forum and take a look

AT&T S6 and S6 edge both were shipped with Lollipop 5.0.1 and I have root for mine and my wife phone.

5.0.1 root available?

Hi everyone, hope you're having an amazing day!
I was wondering if there is a root available for the SM-N910V running 5.0.1. I've looked on google, and there are lots of yes, and no answers. Could someone help clear this up for me?
Thanks!
There is not a root available for the retail edition of the Verizon note 4 on 5.0.1.

Dont search for root, root method is already there for developers edition, so the fact that ROOT IS ALREADY THERE is 100% true.
What you need to search for is either "unlock bootloader" or "rooted firmware" or "rooted kernel" or something else.
Not much so far.
Just make sure when u search google, click search tools and select more recent results. That way u dont end up finding most popular pages that are many many months old.

Actually, requesting root for 5.0.1 in this forum is quite appropriate and very different from unlocked bootloaders, rooted firmware or rooted kernel. In fact, installing a new kernel or rom usually requires an unlocked bootloader and getting that done usually requires a root method first so there's some chance of writing a new recovery. With root, methods such as what is now known as SafeStrap (the result of a technique discovered by Birdman, matured by myself and then claimed by another person who's made a habit of claiming others' work as his own) can allow for quite a bit of customization, but typically not so much as a new kernel, let alone different ROMs.
Right now, the state of the Note 4 is that only the Dev Edition (DE) has much of anything going on. You'll find all sorts of frustrating and unclear information about KingRoot, but it's of almost no use unless you think you can abuse it to search for a more complete and permanent root method, but if you knew how to do such a thing, I doubt you'd be here asking for root If you see ROMs or anything else advanced in this forum that doesn't specify it's only for the DE, assume it is.
I've been around since the days of CupCake (and built WiMo roms previously, along with some of the earliest ROMs and rooting) and based on experience, I'd say that the only chance left seeing root on the retail Note 4 is if another root method (new as of today/2015-12-28) is discovered elsewhere that applies to 5.x/5.0.1 OR the Note 4 sees another OTA and we get really lucky (unlikely).
exactly why am returning it and getting S5. But even with S5 its unclear if towelroot will work or not.
I assume it will if S5 was not updated to 5.0+ but runs older 4.4.4. Is this correct assumption ?
Thanks for informative reply.

Yes but I would do some reading in the Verizon s5 forum because there is a build cutoff for root on the s5. If you're getting a new s5 from Verizon the chances are low you will get one without the latest build at this point

Seller said its still on 4.4.4 which is good news.
I just now need to find a thread on how to root 4.4.4 S5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880

Whatever you do don't take any OTA updates, some are forced so get it rooted asap and then use the pre-rooted lollipop images
