Xperia M C1904 goes into Sleep of Death - Sony Xperia M

After flashing CM 12 on Xperia M, I have encountered this problem. After using the phone without locking down the phone, it works fine, as soon as I lock the phone, within 5-10 minutes the phone doesn't wake up on pressing power button. It will only turn on when I remove the battery and insert it again but that is just temporary solution. What is the reason for this? Is the battery faulty, or the processor is underclocked or kernel related problem? Please tell me the cause of this problem and way to fix it.
Recently I re-flashed the phone with CM 13 but same thing continues

It sounds like a hardware fault. Are you using a custom kernal or stock?

I don't have much idea about kernel, all I can say is that I am using Custom ROM (CM 13) and I have not tweaked with kernels

Hmm... So you haven't played around with your processor or anything thing like that? Also this could be an Xposed Module interfering with your device?

I have not tweaked the processor, neither used Xposed modules. Apparently IMEI number is missing after flashing custom ROM.

as your IMEI missing, i will suggest you to Flash Stock ROM and then move to custom ROM....
but first open your battery cover and check is there anything, which may blocks you from pressing power key.., clean button area with Dry cloth...

I am facing a similar issue with c2004. The power button works..... but it can be used only to switch on from the off state....... after the phone is in switched [ON mode] power button does not work (waking and switching off the device's display) or powering off the device...
The device had Sony stock JB4.3........ I thought it was a software issue.... then I unlocked and updated to CM13 but the problem persisted...
It seems to be a hardware issue.... may be related to power button(may be power switch struck in ON mode)... One more issue is there..... I cannot charge the phone or connect to PC when the phone is [ON mode]....... first I have to properly shut it down (power off).... then I switch it on with power button and in a few seconds I have to connect charger or connect to a PC... only than it will charge or connect to PC.
For using switching the display on/ off and powering off the device....... I have swapped the camera and power button.....
So.... can anyone shed light..... to what could be wrong and the solution....
Thanks....

Thanks, I flashed the device with Stock ROM and everything is working fine (didn't flash CM 13 later though). Latest flashtool refused to detect the device (Xperia M) with CM13 installed but then I used the older version of flashtool 0.9.18.6 and it worked like a charm!

In my case, flashing the device with stock rom resolved the issue, try flashing your device with appropriate firmware, with an old flashtool to Stock ROM, that might solve your problem

Softbrick? [Loose power button]

So a friend of mine was updating ClockWorkMod and within about two reboots his phone would only flash the Samsung logo that pops up when the phone first turns on then nothing would happen (black screen). He reflashed the last version of CM stable (CM 10.1.2 for d2att) and nothing changed.
So I figure, we can just flash back to stock via ODIN but the device will only enter Download Mode for about a split second; it shows the green Android then flashes away to a black screen just like bootup. There was a video taken of the text in the corner, the flash counter was incremented and it said something like "QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLED"
To be clear, we can enter CWM recovery just fine with no hiccups but we can't enter Download Mode or boot the device. I've tried booting into each mode with the device plugged into a computer and ADB will only recognize it in recovery mode, not in Download or normal bootup.
Is this a hardware failure? I can't tell and I'm not sure how to proceed. Would a Jig help?
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: It has now been discovered and confirmed that a loose power button is the culprit here.
Do you have access to a USB jig to force the phone into download mode?

We don't but we're skeptical of it working; we fear that once it's in Download Mode and we unplug the Jig so we can plug the phone into the computer, it will turn off.
It does seem like our only option however; do you think we should go ahead and order one?

Since you can get into recovery mode, can you try flashing a stock file via recovery? You can use another device (another phone, SD card reader/writer, card adapter, camera etc) to copy the flashable zip to an SD card, then place the card in your phone and install via recovery. I'll suggest you use the MJ2 (modified 4.3 stock ROM) so you don't lock yourself into the 4.3 bootloader yet. Please check the instructions to see if you'll require the kernel and modem zips as well. If this doesn't work, then you have a hardware problem and not firmware.

When I attempt to flash the ROM on CWM, it says something about "script aborted: status 7 (expected 5 arguments, got 3)". Sounds like the way CWM is formatting and mounting the partitions differently than stock recovery.

You should load an updated version of CWM. The status 7 error can occur if the ROM is too new for the recovery.
A jig may work but try updating recovery and flashing first.

CWM was already updated to its latest; so a TWRP 2.7.0 flashable zip for d2att was executed to see if that would fix the flashing issue but now it won't enter recovery at all
Starting to think the power button is stuck

You could try and see what happens when you remove and replace the battery. Usually, with stuck power button, the phone tries to power on immediately the battery is inserted even when you don't press the power button. Unless, of course, something is broken or dislodged inside. It could indeed be you have a combo hardware/firmware problem. The firmware problem can be easily fixed by flashing a correct and working ROM but you need to be able to get the device into recovery/download first.

The insertion of the battery definitely turns on the phone; it's the only way we've been turning the device on and off.
Tapping the front/back of the phone near the power button also seems to randomly wake the device and frankly would explain a lot.
Thanks for the help guys

Sounds like a stuck power button then. Thankfully, this can be routinely fixed at a tech shop or by yourself if you have the right tools and skills for this. Sometimes it doesn't even require replacement of the power button which can be bought cheaply on places like that online auction site.

Can confirm that it's a stuck power button; tapping it continuously with an end of a chapstick tube while the phone booted got us all the way into Cyanogenmod; we confirmed that TWRP flashed successfully as well. However, we as soon as we stop tapping it, it goes back to the previous behavior.
We're now looking for some guides online to fix it, seems mechanical if tapping it continuously will keep it unstuck for short amount of time.
Thanks again guys

[Q] boot loop phenomen

hi!
suddenly my n7100 does reboots again, and again.
on start with the n7100 logo - while charging, the bat icon, it reboots - i can not go even into download mode.
if i disconnect the bat power, and leave it for 1 or 2 days it is working again, a few seconds.
i flashed new rom, wiped cache, and new recovery. sadly: no success. still in a boot loop.
i have looked in the internet and of course in this forum - does anyone know what to do, to get it alive again (well it is, but it is rebooting(((?
is the board broke? or the switch ( it is working as far as i see) - or some ram?
any help would make me glad
tia,
rasp
I guess it's not working when charger is connected ? So I understand from your post.?
Also which bootloader are you on? And which rom you flashed?
If you using kitkat notice that the bootloader is better to be the one from the kitkat rom.
Or do you used rom with Ultra saving mode the first time you got those bootloops.

So you're saying your phone reboots by itself as soon as you put the battery inside? Can you get into download mode without pressing the power button just press volume down + home button if download mode opens up that means your power button is messed up (either it's pressed all the time or you need a new power button)

[Q] S3 (I747) Powering off During Boot

Started two days ago. Phone would randomly power off and boot back up. Finally it shut off and would not power back on. I had Cm11 installed with CWM 4.0.4.6. The phone powers on after inserting the battery. The Samsung logo flashes and then it shows the "Galaxy S3" logo with the CM logo below it. The phone the powers off. I have done a factory reset, cleared both caches, formatted the system folder, flashed SlimKat from recovery and tried another known good battery. At this point I figured I would reflash CWM but if I put the phone into download mode, it powers off after just a few seconds as well.
If I boot the phone into CWM, the phone stays on as long as I want it to so it makes me think this might be fixable. Just need some help.
Except for recovery working, it sounds like the power button sticking. If you remove/replace the battery does it power on automatically? If so its definitely the power button.
Otherwise, let us know what firmware you are currently running on. Maybe reflashing in recovery could help.

It does power on automatically. Makes perfect sense that it is the power button. Is this repairable or replaceable? I start Googling around for power button issues.
Im currently running CWM 6.0.4.6 and SlimKat. SlimKat was only installed cause I thought CM 11 was the issue. At this point I would just like to get the phone to a point where I could sell it.

It can be replaced fairly easily, just look it up on youtube.
You can buy the part off Ebay (or any other site you might prefer) for fairly cheap.

Phone Reboots after holding power button

Hi I've been using a custom rom for nearly a month now (Archidroid 2.5.3) and I only recently noticed whenever i hold the power button my phone instantly reboots itself! I can still lock my phone but not get the power menu up.
I have Xposed framework with modules: Flat style module, App Settings and Play Store Fixes. I tried disabling flat style and rebooting but that didn't make a difference. Also I tried the uninstall option but that also didn't do anything. Xposed is the only thing that I could think of that might of caused this problem but I guess not. Any suggestions?

have you read something bug about your custom rom? if don't have any bug maybe this custom rom isn't compatible for your devices maybe? or your power button may be have a problem? like brick on IC Power or anything? i think try to revert to stock os again (flash .ftf file) but i recommended to flah with pc companion first and full format your devices, after that try to hold your power button and see what happen? are still reboot like this or not? if still like that maybe brick on IC Power , but if don't happen like that, may be your custom rom have a bug maybe?

Hmm ok, the rom devs haven't listed any bugs or issues but I'll try that when I get the chance. Thanks.

How do I recover my bricked phone?

I attempted flashing a custom rom that needs oneui 3 system files but I flashed it on oneui 2.5 . Twrp has successfully flashed it and the custom rom booted into the home screen, but then crashed and the screen is off. It booted again and then crashed, but afterwards it was just dead, and will not respond to power button or being plugged into wall outlet. The phone does get hot when plugged into computer, but shows nothing on the display. I hope someone can help solve this problem, and I would thank you in advance.

If you can boot to TWRP you should restore (in case you have some backup) or flash some custom ROM.

You won't see your device as usual when transfer files is activated.
I wonder why you don't have enabled USB debugging while you're in custom ROM.
You have to put your device in download mode, open Odin and see if it detects it.
Sorry if I did not explain clearly, but the device shows no signs of life, no vibrations and nothing shown on the display. I cannot make it boot into anything, and I just hope to see I can still save it. I am considering a motherboard swap. Sorry for the annoyance

Did you try all the combination keys? Recovery and download mode? If device is in kernel panic then try to switch it off pressing the three buttons for about 30 seconds (it's different than the normal shutdown) from then try again the boot modes methods.
It turns out it was a hardware issue. I took the phone apart and saw that a connector on the motherboard was damaged. I will get a new motherboard and swap. Thanks for all the help you provided
