What's with the fingerprint sensor? I thought it was to allow you into your phone at will. although many times I use it I still have to enter a pin. thanks

Not always.
Do you use an app or the like to turn your screen off or lock your phone?
Yes. Just tested that. Using app requires pin. Using button or letting go of itself. No pin. No way to get around this?

A little confused by your wording. What do you mean by "using app requires pin"? Using app for what?
For me, the only time it requires me to use my pattern is after a restart and after disconnecting a Bluetooth device that is listed under Smart Lock.

For example I use a tasker gesture on the screen to lock my phone and at that point I use my fingerprint to turn on the phone but the pin screen appears so I have to enter my pin first and then it unlocks.

For what I know, only if you turn your screen off with the power button the fingerprint scanner will unlock your phone immediatly afterwards.
Then I guess the question would be what app can mimic a power button press so that I can continue using gestures and or background apps to turn off the screen? Or forego using the fingerprint scanner?

If you are rooted this is super simple with tasker...
Create a new task with whatever name you want.
Select the Code Action Category.
Select Run Shell Code Action.
In the Command input type:
Code:
input keyevent 26
Check the Use Root box.
Leave all other options untouched.
Then use that Task for your gesture. Note that at some point Tasker is going to ask for root privileges. You obviously need to grant them to it.
Enjoy...

You're overcomplicating it. See this post. You don't have to use tasker. You can use at least one widget plus launcher gestures as long as you have root, and it works.

Again, the Tasker Task is as simple as they come. It would take longer for the op to download that app than make the task. And considering he is using Tasker to turn the phone off with a gesture, he would still have to create a task to run the app. That, sport, is overcomplicating it.

it's a bug in ICS that displays the menu buttons when on the lockscreen. it's not suppose to happen. most likely they'll fix it in an update eventually.
If u use ADW EX home launcher that 3 dot menu on lockscreen unlocks the phone by just pressing on it.

If I don't go back to home screen before I lock. I have the 3 buttons displayed. These seem to override the slide to unlock. This is not really an issue tho I suppose as slide to unlock isn't secure anyway
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I assumed it was a feature. It only pops up on slide to unlock setting and I always use that instead of sliding when I have apps open.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
But isn't slide to unlock supposed to be a more secure lock over a none lock to prevent accidental phone unlock in your pocket? That's the whole point of "sliding" to unlock, not "pressing".
If that really is a feature they should give us an option to disable it. But I still think its a bug.
How often is something in your pocket going to find those three little dots and hit that specific part of your phone to unlock it..?
Better yet.. how often is your phone screen even on when in your pocket?
This always happens when locking when you are in an app
Or in browser....sort off shortcut feature tap it and you are right back in the app that is open at the moment

I think u missed my point.
It defeats the purpose of "sliding".
Why not just have ONE unlock button instead of sliding and 3dots?, since both have the same function.
Isn't Android about choices? Couldn't I chose to tap the 3 dots vs sliding all the time?

I know this bug might not bother many, but I really want stock Android to be more polished and not half baked.

This is why:
1) Faster camera launch.
2) You don't have to enter a password every time you want to take a picture yet your phone its still locked/secured.
3) If you want someone else to take a pic, you have to stop and unlock the phone first or give them your password.
4) When the shortcut is on the lock screen, you have to enter the password before allowing you to take the pic. You'll miss the moment.
5) With Windows 7 and Crapple you don't have to unlock and could quickly launch the camera. Also, all the pictures you take at the moment are visible w/o unlocking.
It would be a good feature to have on the GS3.
Would be a great add on

Yes it does but I didnt have to use the button to do it. You pushed the unlock button, then slid the lock ring onto the camera icon (assuming you had it on your lock screen) and you could take a picture. You would see the 3 sec preview of it, and then take more pics. If you tapped the small pic of the last image, and it would take you to the pattern/number lock. That way someone couldn't see your pics without the pass.

Smart Lock V1.2.4
----------------------------------------
DOWNLOAD http://db.tt/kBtgcx6N
- PIN unlock automatic now. (No longer need to tap the tic)
-Delay timer Seconds slider
- 1.2.2 bigger PIN keypad
- improved screen state detection should use less ram and cause less battery drain.
----------------------------------------
Welcome to Smart Lock... The Security of a PIN lock and convenience of swipe combined
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
>>> #1 FEATURES & QUICK START GUIDE
----------------------------------------
The App UI is VERY simple to use:
#1 Set your PIN, screen off delay & global state.
#2 Thats it! if you turn your screen on before the set delay you get normal Android lock screen. After you get Smart Lock PIN guard immediately after.
if you forget your PIN at any time simply wipe Smart Lock app data to reset to the default PIN '0000' and chose a new one next time you launch the app.
Since the min delay is 1min, you will always be able to do this after a reboot. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to use thie app in combination with a sim PIN lock to block entry upon reboot and you are secure.
The rest is so easy i wont bother insulting your intelligence explaining it.
The lock screen this app uses is independent from Android and will appear after you unlock with any Android lock method.
----------------------------------------
>>> #2 THE CONCEPT:
----------------------------------------
The idea behind Smart Lock is to combine the convenience of the Android swipe Lock screen with the security of a protected lock screen (either pattern or PIN).
This is achieved by using a secondary independent PIN guard blocking overlay which will block access to the Android UI without a successful PIN entry.
This PIN activated system guard can be set to block access to the touch screen. A user selectable delay once the screen switches off will activate it.
Combined this with a sim lock on boot, together they will protect your phone from theft or prying eyes while AT THE SAME TIME saving you from needing to enter your PIN every time you check your phone during instant message sessions or any other sort of frequent use.
The app can easily be reverted to a default PIN by wiping the app data ANY TIME. Since the min PIN activation delay is 1 minute from Screen off there is no danger of locking yourself out of your phone since a simple reboot and app data wipe will clear a forgotten or unknown PIN...
So how can this possibly be secure I hear you ask?
Well its quite simple: With a SIM PIN in place a user will need to know this to get into Andriod after a reboot. without this Smart Lock app data can't be wiped to reset the PIN...
So you have day a 15 minute delay on Smart Lock. Your phone gets stolen and likely the Smart Lock PIN has activated by the time someone tries to use it. They then reboot the phone and your SIM block PIN prevents them getting in!! Meanwhile you are enjoying the convenience of a simple swipe lock screen most of the time not to mention Android 4.2.2 lock screen widgets!
----------------------------------------
thanks, work for 4.1.2??

Hi rlorange,
Same as you, sometimes v1.1 got bypassed and i've to clear app settings to get it working again.
Maybe you can try to do the same thing Go Locker do ; it takes the launcher place, and then runs the original or custom launcher, that way it get automatically called anytime the phone gets unlocked.

I think there are a few others who have complained about this as well. I don't have a texting plan (I use Google Voice), so I haven't ever experienced this. However, if there aren't any options in the phone settings, there may be another way.
I seem to be on this Tasker kick lately, so when someone has a problem that is related to the phone sensors or events, I tend to think "how can I fix this with Tasker?!" . As a result, I have made an app really quick using Tasker and have even included the project XML if you want to fiddle with it on your own. It does NOT require root. However, it will need you to install another free app called "Secure Settings" and give it administrator rights in your phone settings. All that the app does is wait for an incoming message and checks to see if the proximity sensor detects something in front of it. If it does, it turns the screen off. However, like I said, I don't have a texting plan, so I haven't had a chance to really test it. The app interface is just an "ON/OFF" button and a "Close" button. If it doesn't work, just turn it off or uninstall it. It is set to "OFF" when it is first installed.
Alternatively, you can play around with it if you get Tasker. I think there is still a trial period you can get if you aren't sure if you want to buy it. Let me know if it works or if you have any other questions.
I named the xml file as a .zip just to upload to xda. Just rename the file without the ".zip" at the end and then you can edit and/or import to Tasker.

Never done something like it myself but in my head something like the following task should work:
1. Run Shell action from Script categorie to run the shell command and store it's output into a Tasker variable
1.a(optional) Do some sanitizing of the results if necessary
2. Push content of Tasker variable to Zooper via the Zooper plugin
3. Wait action from Task category with the wanted pause time
4. Goto action also from the Task category to go back to action 1.
Since this Task would run for infinity, you might want to think about some start/stop tasks you can manually trigger to control the execution of it.
Like I said, this is just from the top of my hat. You'd probably have to do some more modifications until it becomes usable
Very awesome! Thanks for the tips!
