Is it possible to have the shell output variable repeat itself every minute or so to stay up-to-date? Like an auto-refresh? Thanks!

Don't think so, no. Tasker is always in option in such a case though

Never done something like it myself but in my head something like the following task should work:
1. Run Shell action from Script categorie to run the shell command and store it's output into a Tasker variable
1.a(optional) Do some sanitizing of the results if necessary
2. Push content of Tasker variable to Zooper via the Zooper plugin
3. Wait action from Task category with the wanted pause time
4. Goto action also from the Task category to go back to action 1.
Since this Task would run for infinity, you might want to think about some start/stop tasks you can manually trigger to control the execution of it.
Like I said, this is just from the top of my hat. You'd probably have to do some more modifications until it becomes usable
Very awesome! Thanks for the tips!

I'd love to use NFC while I'm playing Pandora, to do one or more of these things:
Skip ahead
Thumbs up
Thumbs down
"I'm tired of this track"
Does anyone have any idea how I could do this? Is it even possible?
Not sure how you could incorporate NFC. But voice with tasker would work fine.

Any hints on how to do this? I am not great with either voice or Tasker. For instance, how to thumb down using tasker?

Screen keypress..
Basically, you get the x,y coordinates for the different buttons on the screen.
You can get these coordinates in developer options on "pointer location" and then you run the shell to emulate these touches.
Search for "tasker emulate enter key" same concept. Enjoy!

I did a tasker to uninstall pandora and to install rhapsody .. really I did just to see if i could ..
It's very easy, like the post a couple spots above me, just set up Tasker (which is complicated I know but start with small things) to push buttons in Pandora, then use any recent nfc app to launch Tasker, and you're set!

Thanks dude, I got as far as being able to set tasks to press buttons on the Pandora screen.
BUT, I don't know how to get Pandora to show up on the screen when it's playing in the background already. Anyone know how to do this?
(I already tried the action of just opening the app of Pandora, but it doesn't do anything if Pandora is already running in the background).
Not the cleanest solution, but maybe put a shortcut on your home screen then set Tasker to use that?

I need recommendation for app that will track my N4 in case I lost it.
I was using androidlost for all my phones, but on N4 it does not work like it should. It will execute command received from web or SMS (ex. start alarm, gps location) only if (or when) screen is turned on. I need app that will do requested command even if screen is turned off.
Any suggestions?
Tnx

I wanted to recommend one that seems to go unnoticed as well. Cerberus.
I really like ceberus but still have problem, just like Android Lost.
If screen is not turned on I get message: Problem communicating with your device.
I want app that will bypass screen that is turned off and execute command that is given from web app/SMS

It is not because your screen is off. That works beautifully. If your data is off you will have to execute a "data on" command. Then you will get communication with your device.
I am using Avira Free Android Security, it is free and works fine. You can find it on play google.

I wonder if it has something to do with 4.2.2 problems with deep sleep.
im looking for an app that can concentrate a number of actions to one button that i will be able to put on my Homescreen as a widget, thus saving time by not forcing me to do each and every one of the actions.
for example - i would like to open "waze", turn on bluetooth, turn on the gps and turn off the wifi with just one click
is that possible?
dose anybody know an app who dose that?
(im using an unrooted Nexus 4 and i am aware of the NFC technology - just looking for a different solution.)
thanks a lot!!
Edi.
I thinks Tasker can do this
Tapalked with a Nexus⁴
+1
If you get Tasker right now I believe its on sale. It can definitely do this. You would create a profile for the application Waze, and add tasks for each thing you want to happen when you open Waze.

What's with the fingerprint sensor? I thought it was to allow you into your phone at will. although many times I use it I still have to enter a pin. thanks

Not always.
Do you use an app or the like to turn your screen off or lock your phone?
Yes. Just tested that. Using app requires pin. Using button or letting go of itself. No pin. No way to get around this?

A little confused by your wording. What do you mean by "using app requires pin"? Using app for what?
For me, the only time it requires me to use my pattern is after a restart and after disconnecting a Bluetooth device that is listed under Smart Lock.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
For example I use a tasker gesture on the screen to lock my phone and at that point I use my fingerprint to turn on the phone but the pin screen appears so I have to enter my pin first and then it unlocks.

For what I know, only if you turn your screen off with the power button the fingerprint scanner will unlock your phone immediatly afterwards.
Then I guess the question would be what app can mimic a power button press so that I can continue using gestures and or background apps to turn off the screen? Or forego using the fingerprint scanner?

If you are rooted this is super simple with tasker...
Create a new task with whatever name you want.
Select the Code Action Category.
Select Run Shell Code Action.
In the Command input type:
Code:
input keyevent 26
Check the Use Root box.
Leave all other options untouched.
Then use that Task for your gesture. Note that at some point Tasker is going to ask for root privileges. You obviously need to grant them to it.
Enjoy...

You're overcomplicating it. See this post. You don't have to use tasker. You can use at least one widget plus launcher gestures as long as you have root, and it works.

Yep, the Tasker Task I wrote is really, really complicated. The op is going to **** a brick when he sees that he would need to use Tasker to do what he is already using Tasker to do but this time it will work.

Again, the Tasker Task is as simple as they come. It would take longer for the op to download that app than make the task. And considering he is using Tasker to turn the phone off with a gesture, he would still have to create a task to run the app. That, sport, is overcomplicating it.

I came across this the other day... Had been missing Automateit back when I was using rooted devices. Works very well for automating simple tasks (ie turn auto-rotate on when I open youtube) .
Worth a try.

Definitely does... And I've used tasker before, but Macrodroid is much easier for basic stuff. Tasker's UI is pretty complicated IMO...it does more and if you are rooted there is no comparison.
