Okay here we go,
Thanks @pikeylfc for testing. :good:
Rootable Permissive Verity/RIC disabled.
Marvelous Super-Huge Thanks to
@AndroPlus for his kernel source
and helping me out with the kernel.elf situation.
This is in line with AndroPlus's sources at the time I cloned and compiled originally 9th March 2016 for the Z5 premium.
The kernel souce is the same for this device, the kernel was compiled last night.
Download
sxz3plus_ivy_MM_Rootable_Permissive_boot.img
It seems the dsds model may not be unlockable at least in one instance so far.
I'm going to leave this image in place however.
sxz3plus_ivy_dsds_MM_Rootable_Permissive_boot.img
This is for Marshsmellow, it's not rocket-science.
flash by normal means
This image is setup with the bootrec scenario. That information is covered in AndroPlus work and threads.
My defconfigs are attached.
Use @Chainfire 's latest SuperSU, this version will apply root to the boot.img (system-less root).
I do not intend any further effort outside of this.
ATTENTION: I don't have a recovery build for ivy. I don't own the device. The only reason i sorted the kernel for root is because the kernel source is the same from the z3+/z4 to the z5.
Someone who owns the device will have to start picking up proper development. Sorry.
I am still looking for confirmation as to whether or not the bootloader for the dsds model is unlockable, or if there is
some sort of country restriction that applies.

The size is like almost 50% of the previous boot-251. Is it correct, wondering why size shrink so much.

k,
hi, instead of the "usual" kernel binary + dtb image
this package uses a compressed and concatenated kernel-dtb.
So where the "usual" setup results in a 20+mb kernel binary and a 700+kb - 2mb dt.img [depending]
the resulting image-dtb.gz generated during kernel compilation comes down to roughly 8.3mb total.
And since the ramdisk itself is largely text files with few small compiled binaries in sbin, the ramdisk itself
can be compressed from 13.1mb, uncompressed in this case, down to 6.9mb with gzip compression.
With lzma compression the ramdisk would be 2.8mb

Super. Install went perfect. Works as expected. Also flashed -arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160211.zip
Gravity works fine. I only tried few mods I used regularly.
Thanks for getting is available. I've been keep searching for past few days since upgrade.

Hi, I'm a noob regarding root on the Z3+ so I would be very grateful if someone could explain a bit more detailed who this installation should be carried out?
I never rooted my device on lollipop, but I guess that in order to be able to flash this kernel, the bootloader must first be unlocked?
I assume that the procedure has not changed because of the update to MM, so i guess I could find the steps somewhere here in the Z3+/Z4 forum (of course if you want to explain those steps as well I wont protest )
Thanks in advance,
Andreas
Thank you so much! Now I finally got the iOS emojis ♥
Install was easy, boot time was same as normal!

Andreas,
provided your device is single sim, just flash the img as normal using fastboot. As per OP this is for the MM firmware release.
If your device is dual sim [dsds] let me know and i will post a dsds version AFTER you post the kernel.sin image from the ftf firmware archive for your device.
NO MEGA! DIE CLOUD DIE !!
m
Its not that complicated, but yes, your bootloader must be unlocked. Once you have that sorted, just use flashtool to flash the firmware (you can download the one you want from within flashtool using xperifirm) by installing fastboot and flashmode drivers (those are in the folder you installed flashtool; on anything above Win8 youll need to turn off driver verification to install these drivers, just google that if you dont know how it works), then choosing flashmode, selecting the firmware and falshing it. If you want to do a clean install, just check all the Wipe settings. Two questions will come up while flashing, just click yes on both.
Then you put the phone into fastboot mode (oh and have supersu on the SD card helps) and once again using flashtool, flash the img file from this thread. Then hotboot into the bootable TWRP, found in some other thread here. The phone will restart into TWRP and there you choose install and install the superSU.zip you copied to your SD card before.
If you dont understand parts of what I said, reconsider if youre really so much into gaining root OR ask
Oh gosh. Do I need to unlock my phone first? Mine is dual sim, I'll post the kernel tomorrow, it's 2 a m here, sorry.

Ok guys, so as I promised, as soon as I received my Robin I started to work on this to finish it, and after some days of working and testing, here you have a toolkit for the cute Robin:
- Unlock/Lock the Robin (You should unlock your Robin the first time you use this tool. If not, as most of the tools below need the bootloader to be unlocked, you will lose your data when running any of them for the first time. In that case, creating a backup would be really unuseful. Unlock once, unlock forever)
- Backup/Restore
- Root
- Install TWRP
- Wipe Cache/Data (with and without TWRP installed)
- Install factory images (System, Boot and/or recovery, up to you - Not the last version, I have to update it)
- Install non-forced-encryption patched boot by @d3xt3r (Thanks bud!) [Possibly adding the @deadman96385 version too in a near future!]
Root, Install TWRP and Backup/Restore work 100% sure. Other like install factory images or the non-encryption mod I haven't tested them (I have zero time, literally), but they should work (95% sure).
Thanks also to @deadman96385, @d3xt3r, and @Baymax, who helped me testing and giving me their knowdledge!
Any suggestions and bug reporting are welcome!
Changelog
v1.2
No more using C:\ to store all the necessary files
Now using temp files, they're deleted when the Toolkit window is closed
No need to install adb anymore, it's installed the first time you run the .exe file
Update check added. You will get a message to download the new .exe everytime an update is available
Backup fixed (wasn't working)

@joeminati yes, it's already been reported. Some Antivirus software take any non-signed .exe package as a virus (trojan in this case). Better answer about this, in stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...015-community-trojan-heur-qvm03-0-malware-gen
PD: Obviously my .exe is not signed

Hey guys,
Been searching for a few days now ive tried several root methods
the ones from playstore like
Kingroot
Kingoroot
Kingoroot desktop
Its a galaxy tab a6 running android 5.1.1
Build number LMY47V.T280XXU0APB6
All of the above say they can root it but they all failed
I have seen posts on forums such as this one offering custom roms for the device so I must assume there is a root somewhere and I just cant find it.
Any help would be extremely apreceated

Hello ashyx
I have the sm-T285m. Yes, I could not root it using the usual programs out there. Any way to inject root into the system image and then reflash it through odin? (as you mentioned you have managed to debloat it-maybe a dumb question as am sure you already looked into it) I recall trying to do such a thing on Huawei Mediapad x2 when there was no root but ran into issues after I accidentally overwrote my entire windows o/s and disk with linux and then gave up (had to extract files from image, add the su then recompile something like that?...from memory over a year back and was only my first and only foray into linux) The odin tar files are separate ones for modem, system, bootloader etc.
Thanks

I already tried prerooting the system image.
It wont boot because the boot.img needs to be patched and you can't patch the boot.img on a bootloader locked device.
I even asked Chainfire if there was any other way and he said no.

Thanks Ashyx...you mentioned you managed to debloat it. I tried ext4unpacker (maybe archaic now though recall it worked on 5.0.2) to separate the system.img into components but could not. I am interested in editing system image
(A) change dpi (increase the lcd density to 380 or so to get things bigger),
(B) change system font (put in a preferred ttf font),
(C) remove many unneeded (for me) google apps from the system folder, and
(D) enable mobile data auto on off for mms via the features.xml or others.xml. Do you think these could be done (you already mentioned the debloat).
typically i managed to get all of the above done if rooted.
Any advice appreciated on how to do this unpacking and repacking.
Thanks
does this help? opensouce kernel?
(again maybe preaching to the choir but thought I'd ask-not knowledgeable here but posting if it helps in getting to a semi-rooted type state somehow)
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=sm-t285
btw i 'managed' to get oem unlock to show as checked permanently...does that mean the bootloader is unlocked now? (cross flashed through odin the 285 on my 285m the system CP file...and reverted back to 285m-no difference though in network as modem was still 285m as was partition and BL-reflashed the BL as well separately for 285m-after all this shows oem unlock checked-when i got the device new it was unchecked)
edit...from what it appears, it means it CAN be unlocked, yes? but not actually unlocked?

It wont make any difference. Enabling OEM unlock doesn't unlock the bootloader.
You still wont be able to flash unsigned boot or recovery images.
It will only allow you to flash an unsigned system image.
I use Ubuntu to mount and edit Ext4 images.
You can use the windows or Linux version of simg2img to convert the sparse image to raw then mount in Linux
Tbh Samsung need to provide an unlock for this device like they do for the Chinese devices as there is no reason why this device should have a locked bootloader.

I managed to break my XT1676 also, couldn't find the NPPS25.137-15-11 image either.
I ended up flashing NPP25.137-33 using RSDLite but modifying the flashing script to not flash the partition layout or the bootloader as they are older versions and got it back up and running. If you had that image on the phone previously and you have an unlocked bootloader you can do the same.
Let me know if you need more instructions.
Cheers.
Thank you for replying, raiamino.
I'd like to ask if is there any other option especially for phones with locked bootloader? I'd like to reflash my phone because it became unbelievably slow and laggy after some time. Factory reset didn't help much.
I flashed a lot of phones in the past (for example Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, Lenovo S60...) but this phone really surprises me about flashing. I found a lot of custom ROMs here on xda and I was thinking about flashing some also, but I'm a little bit scared of it - I don't know, which one is compatible and which isn't (nowhere is written if is custom ROM built for 2/16, 3/16, SingleSIM, DualSIM... variant). I need Moto Gestures feature (really useful thing for me) also, but don't know, if any custom ROM supports it. Do you know about any which will not cause brick (or hard brick) if I will flash it? Thx in advance.
Btw, sorry for bad English, but it's not my native language. Greetings from little big country - Slovakia.

you can do the following - warning it will erase everything on internal storage including photos music downloads documents etc - backup to sd card or laptop first if you want to keep these things
put phone into fastboot mode and connect to laptop
In a terminal/command prompt window assuming you have fastboot installed type the following
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
When you restart your phone it will be like the first time you switched it on (albeit with upgraded firmware version)
LineageOS supports moto gestures - For me they all work except shake to open camera app but you can set it to open with a double press of the power button
Flashing a custom rom designed for your phone will not hard brick it as it will never touch the bootloader so you will always be able to enter fastboot mode
Of course you can soft brick which means it either bootloops or you cant access recovery if you don't follow the correct process but you can solve that just by repeating the process correctly
All right, I will give it a try at evening (not enough time right now). So If I will do the fastboot command...
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
...what will happen? Is it the same procedure as factory reset + wipe cache?

yes but it also wipes everything on internal storage data partition
A reset + wipe cache will format data but not user data (things that are stored on internal storage such as pictures music documents downloads)
It does not format system or anything else
Thank you, it helped a lot! :highfive:
EDIT: what's difference between erase and format in fastboot? Would something bad happen if i do format command instead of erase?

Iv no idea - it will either give an error unknown command or do something
erase userdata is the correct use
Hello,
I have the same phone and like to download the stock rom first before flashing a custom one (RR e.g.). I can't find anywhere a download for this version's custom rom yet. Is there any way to save the stock rom out of the still unmodified phone?
Thanks for your help!
Bro.. check this.. npps is for xt 1676 ( Europe, Turkey ) and npp is for xt 1677 ( India) . Both are dual sim 3gb version phones.. just may be customization difference. Hopefully all modem bands may work.
Npps or xt 1676 unfortunately dont have version above 25.137-15 ( which is an older firmware from what u have ) , so never flash it.
But npp have higher version 72/76/82.
Just in case u are not confident enough avoid gpt, and bootloader flashing.
Btw.. if you have messed up ur bootloader ( cant boot into fastboot) .. i think give these files a try.. btw.. you have nothing to loose since u have messed up pretty bad with bootloader.
This is the only last try till Oreo upadate ( if moto ever release it for g5)
Btw.. if u get successful.. please share.
https://www.clangsm.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=482933
---------- Post added at 02:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 PM ----------
And if u are worried about modem ( which may cause wifi /signal issue) avoid flashing modem or try flashing old modem from npps25.137-15 ( the file is available in same directory) you can use the modem file only for flashing )
I mean.. first flash the complete npp25.137-76 ( i choose that file because its non branded ) .. after successful boot, check wifi and sim.
If everything is ok.. use the same..
If you have problems with wifi or sim..
Use modem file from npps 25.137-15 and flash modem partion only.
Or completely avoid all trial and error methods. And just flash npp25-137-76 with out flashing modem , bootloader, gpt, - its just like flashing a new kernel and system.. everything except system and kernel will remanin the same.
The method works only if u have a working bootloader. If its not there.. there is no way to trial and error things.. till u courageously flash the bootloader and gpt from npp version..
Hope you will get something.

Currently.. my xt1676 is working with August security update ( npps - 25.137-72-4 ) rooted, unlocked.. i am trying hard to mess it up.. unfortunately twrp backup helps me to unbrick few times!! But soon or later i will manage to mess it up!!!???
Only then i will give these files a try... ( Or atlest till pixel 2 comes to retailer near by) . For now this is my backup phone after selling s7 edge.
This is just 2 weeks old.. and i manage to mess its os 5-6 times till now.. so i think i will be joining your club soon
Just the same phone as yours..2 weeks old.. but its alive till now.

Hi. Sorry for bumping an old thread but I thought it was better then to make a new one.
I bought this phone a few days ago and it had NPPS25.137-72-4 when delivered. Been trying to read up a bit on this device but since I'm used to samsung, it all takes a while to figure things out
Got it unlocked/rooted fine, but I want to make sure I have something to fall back on in case of trouble.
I've been searching for this fw without any luck. Any chance some one got it and can share it?
NPPS25.137-72-4
Or if anyone can suggest a different one that could work. ( I don't really understand the fw names yet)
Thanks in advance.

There's no flash able zips of stock ROMs here unfortunately. Weird for me too since I was Samsung through and through. Take a back up of your own ROM via TWRP or you can use the debloated stock ROM by Fedray on the ROM forum.

Thanks for your answers.Thats actualy first thing I did after flashing twrp to have a clean backup of system and boot.
I also made a few partition backups in terminal, like persist, oem, modem and a few others so hopefully I'm fine.
Do you guys know if I can take stock recovery from lower version fw in case I would ever need it again?
I highly doubt I ever will, but just in case
Edit: If anyone needs a system/boot backup of this fw, just let me know and I'll upload it.

Ok, here we go. Stock TWRP backup from XT1676.
NPPS25.137-72-4
CEDRIC_XT1676-NPPS25.137-72-4_TWRP.zip
Unzip, put in your twrp backup folder and restore.

Hey all,
Early days of course, but just wondering if any devs wanna post if they're intending on getting this device to bring some custom rom magic?

Ohh exciting! Thanks for getting getting in touch.
Just curious what your style of custom rom will be? Modified stock, pixel experience, Resurrection Remix style etc?
(UPDATE - just seen your GSI thread now - great work!)
Also you may not know this, but do you have an opinion on bootloader unlocking and camera features being lost? Apparently on older devices it was possible to backup the TA partition etc to avoid this, though indeed this may be unknown territory until we actually get the device (hopefully Thurs 18th June for me!)

Glad You found it. There is more to come...
About the bootloader unlocks. No worries! Sony isnt using the old Camera tech anymore. Means your Pictures and Videos will be Just fine after unlocking. You can dump Your TA with NewFlasher from XDA which is also recommended for flashing new Xperias with Treble. The only Thing You will loose is the Creator Mode somehow (Don't know how it works on the Mark 2 but i haven't Seen or missed it in my Xperia 5 yet...). It are good Times for Xperia and custom ROM Fans. Hope we will get a great Community again after so many years with ugly DRM fixing and lost functionalities...
Hope You will enjoy Your Xperia :fingers-crossed:

Ah this is fantastic news!
Ideally I'd love to root stock on day 1 of getting the device. Am I right in thinking that I should do the following:
1) Backup TA (what's the best way to do this?)
2) Unlock bootloader (via official Sony website)
3) extract boot img (via fastboot or download the latest stock rom? I'm new to xperia so unsure how it all goes for these devices!)
4) patch boot img with magisk
5) flash rooted boot img
Your help is greatly appreciated!
I for one will be active in the community and I suspect it'll grow rather popular!
Will check out the MARS_SOM....

1) Download NewFlasher from XDA. It will ask You as first or second step to backup TA (Trim Area). Use the included Drivers if needed and awnser all other Prompts with y for yes to flash full firmwares. Do this before unlocking as first step... NewFlasher is for newer Devices so please don't use the old flashing tools...
2) Correct. It will also give You the needed fastboot base for the following steps
3) Download XperiFirm and UnSin from XDA (Same Guy called Igor Eisberg or so). He's a VIP for us...
Download the Correct Firmware for Your Device and extract the boot Sin File with UnSin by drag and drop on the UnSin.exe.
4)You will get an boot Img File which can be rooted with the Magisk Manager before You flash it. Keep Recovery, AVB and Encryption Option Boxes marked under advanced options for the patching...
5) Flash the Patched Boot Image with fastboot like "fastboot flash boot_a boot.img" and "fastboot flash boot_b boot.img" to flash Root to both A/B Slots (Since it's a Treble A/B Device with 2 Slots).
That will be it. After that can You install the MARS_SOM if You want to. I'm releasing BETA2 today and hope it works on the Mark 2 too

Great!
Regarding the TA backup, at what point would I restore that backup? As I really would wish to avoid such loss of any functionality (especially on day 1 haha) and so ideally I think I'll only go for this if/when it can be confirmed that unlocking the bootloader/restoring the TA backup has zero negative effects.
It'll be my intention, best case scenario, to root stock firmware (for theme, ad blocking etc), enjoy it for a short while to get a feel for the device, then play around with custom roms (plus gcam etc) ?
I'll be very keen to try out MARS_SOM, looks like you keep it all stock but with loads of extra tweaks for performance etc sounds great!

I'm UK O2 and hopefully it's arriving this coming Thursday 18th
Unsure if I'm brave enough to unlock straight away for the risk of losing some camera functionality/features, so I may wait to see if someone less concerned tries first..... Lol

After some more Research does it looks like that SONY isn't using DRMs for the Cameras anymore at all, after many claims from Customers over the last Years. The only DRM stuff thats left was for Netflix and the Xperia Services. I haven't seen any Claims or Problems besides that... But let's see If the Xperia 1 II suprises us

Hi Miustone,
Maybe you know what I'm doing wrong. Every time I try to run newflasher.exe I get the error
Code:
No usb device with vid:0x0fce pid:0xb00b !
USB debugging is enabled.
OEM Unlocking is NOT toggled.
USB is set to File Transfer mode.
I cannot change the controlled by setting from "This device" to "Connected device."
I am using the USB C to USB C cable that came with the phone.
I tried every configuration possible with this cable (even though it shouldn't matter).
ADB is recognizing the phone.
I tried running it as admin.
I tried with the drivers that come with the phone.
I tried with the gordonGate drivers.
I tried with the manual drivers from Sony.
Any help will be greatly appreciate!
Thanks

Good evening Good People
So I have an HTC One M9 showing kernel v "3.10.84-perf-geb5d15 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT"; build "3.38.710.7 CL683910 release-keys"; Android Security Patch Level 2016-03-01. Bought from my daughter who got it on Amazon where history undefined...
Someone has been at it because the factory update to 3.50.710.1 downloads (800-odd MByte - thanks :/) )but won't install and (MOST OF ALL) the EU:Exit app from gov.uk (that I have to use for a client on Monday 17-8-2020) won't run because the signature (or whatever it is) fails on the boot image.
So please can I ask:
1. Does this boot image look like it is original or is it a hack?
2. If this was installed is the original boot ROM preserved or overwritten?
3. Does anyone have a copy of a good factory install image that is this version or later, that I can beg for, that will pass the signature check by our esteemed governmetal app?
4. Does anyone have any good ideas about patching the boot ROM checksum to make it look "ok"?
TIA
PS any chance of setting up a factory boot image repository?

I went hunting for an RUU. Or a TWRP image. Or whatever...
So Flippy498 has done a good job (so please can a sysop add this as a sticky or something...) here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15K6xhb6wtosp9j8yu4xHBZ6n9v5OaFSW6ZVWxC4u_qc/pubhtml
but these are not particularly up-to-date (except that what I am looking for is 2016)
And I'm now up to 72 hours on this and haven't yet done a successful restore so that the OTA update will go in.
But I did:
- have adb and fastboot working (linux host Baby);
- unlock the bootloader using a key from htcdev.com, which worked;
- which then did a reboot and rebuild, and I established "new machine" when I did first boot configure;
- install TWRP which worked;
- try to run that EU:Exit app, was told "install playstore Services Update" which it did;
- try the app again and this time it ran... all the way to "you cant do this on a UK passport you twat".
I cant tell which step did the fix (so I don't like that) so I need to do that job for my client but after that I want to get the update in.
So I'll report back
