[TOOL] Robin Toolkit (v1.2) - Root, TWRP, rescue device... - Nextbit Robin

"I'm not responsible for any damage suffered by your device. You decide if you want to use my tool or not. Also you won't be able to update via OTA."
Ok guys, so as I promised, as soon as I received my Robin I started to work on this to finish it, and after some days of working and testing, here you have a toolkit for the cute Robin:
- Unlock/Lock the Robin (You should unlock your Robin the first time you use this tool. If not, as most of the tools below need the bootloader to be unlocked, you will lose your data when running any of them for the first time. In that case, creating a backup would be really unuseful. Unlock once, unlock forever)
- Backup/Restore
- Root
- Install TWRP
- Wipe Cache/Data (with and without TWRP installed)
- Install factory images (System, Boot and/or recovery, up to you - Not the last version, I have to update it)
- Install non-forced-encryption patched boot by @d3xt3r (Thanks bud!) [Possibly adding the @deadman96385 version too in a near future!]
Root, Install TWRP and Backup/Restore work 100% sure. Other like install factory images or the non-encryption mod I haven't tested them (I have zero time, literally), but they should work (95% sure).
Thanks also to @deadman96385, @d3xt3r, and @Baymax, who helped me testing and giving me their knowdledge!
Any suggestions and bug reporting are welcome!
Changelog
v1.2
No more using C:\ to store all the necessary files
Now using temp files, they're deleted when the Toolkit window is closed
No need to install adb anymore, it's installed the first time you run the .exe file
Update check added. You will get a message to download the new .exe everytime an update is available
Backup fixed (wasn't working)
DEAD

@joeminati yes, it's already been reported. Some Antivirus software take any non-signed .exe package as a virus (trojan in this case). Better answer about this, in stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...015-community-trojan-heur-qvm03-0-malware-gen
PD: Obviously my .exe is not signed

Connect device in fastboot mode (blue LED).
Open Command prompt and type:
fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img
This will give you root immediatly after reboot!

I know roughly what you are talking about. I know command prompt, although I never used fastboot, as I only owned X10 (until I dropped it and USB port snapped ), so never had to/wanted to unlock bootloader this way. But I want to learn, that's why I am reading all this now, and I need to ask about something I am not sure of.
Just go through the unlock bootloader process and then you will know what fastboot is
After that just type my comamnd with my file in the same directory and you will be done.
Regards
If I were you I would wait till I get ICS on the phone then unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
Quick question. It just wonders me. Sony "supports" unlocking bootloader, which is more dangerous than root. Why rooting is not supported then? Is it because we could unistall third party aplications and Sony has some sort of agreements with them and are obligated by law?

No you are getting the idea wrong
Long ago we discussed alot with SonyEricsson and together decided this is the best way of doing it.
The reason is simple:
Rooting alone does not give you access to all partitions etc. pp See X10 Forums for that. Sony is very good in hiding partitions
With a bootloader unlock we get fully workable fastboot. We are able to write all partitions and change what we want. (Root too)
Also Sony(Ericsson) is able to track who unlocks and who not AND is able to provide a check mechanism to forbid unlocking of phones which are not owned by the user (for example provider branded phones in contract, the phone is usually property of the provider).
So this is the reason. Unlocked bootloader gives us nearly full access, so no need to worry I am in this game since X10 times (like you or not ?)and we always got the phones working like we wanted.
Our work for CM9 on XPS has started now too.

See, I was not aware of that "agreement". Now everything seems to make sense. I am android user since I bought X10 back in August 2010. I was more or less following XDA since then as well, but this forum is worldwide community and is almost imposible to keep a track on everything. I would consider myself somewhere between rookie and advanced users. I know how to do certain things (root, how to use ADB, I was changing framwork_res.apk for my own purposes, etc.). My point also is, I am more hardware sort of guy, rather than software. That's why I am glad you guys are here with us.
Will this wipe the phone data or only the system partition ?

Well no. But the first step is that you need to unlock bootloader and THIS WILL wipe your data. To flash the systempartition itself will not wipe userdata.

So you restored with Titanium. Since Titanium is a Root app and you don't had Root before i think you are trying to restore a backup from another phone.
If you do that you have to assure that you ONLY RESTORE APPS and NOT SETTINGS! Settings from another phone will be most likely incompatible.
So this wil be your problem!

No more secure boot error!
I thank my friend @cerg2010cerg2010 for helping me out in patching the aboot.
Supported Model:
Code:
H440AR
-> Steps:
(1) Downgrade to v10a or v10d version of Android.
(2) Root your device.
(3) Download this patched aboot file. Click Here for v10a. Click Here for v10d.
(4) Connect your phone to the computer. In command prompt, type "adb shell".
(5) Transfer the aboot file into /sdcard/ folder.
(6) Type "su" to enter the root shell. Then type "dd if=/sdcard/<file_name_you_downloaded_in_3rd step> of=/dev/block/<your aboot partition>".
(7) Restart your phone by typing "reboot".
You have unlocked your bootloader!
Refer Notes for more information.
-> Notes:
1) The aboot_5120_patched.bin or aboot_10d_patched.bin is the patched version of aboot partition of your device. Secure boot validation has been patched such that secure boot is always valid, so you can flash your own TWRP and Custom ROM.
2) Don't upgrade to any updated version of Android if you get any through OTA update. It might brick your device.
I'll give it a try soon, hopefully if the guys here are correct 4g/lte should work now. Thanks a lot!
Edit: apparently this fixed the issue regarding LTE using argentinian bands, I'll keep testing it but so far it holds even after a call and a low signal area it just switches from lte to 3g and so on (which wasn't working with the other aboot)

Quick question: by unlocking the bootloader I should be able to later flash a custom recovery and then root the phone, right? As the argentinian version seems to be unrootable via kingroot (which is what the general thread recommends). Do I got this right, or is there a simple version to root it? Thanks.

First you need to be on Lollipop.
Root it by using Kingroot.
Unlock the bootloader.
Flash TWRP 3.1.1.0
Flash MM v20b zip proposed by Korelev.
Flash Supersu.
Now you have a rooted MM.

I tried rooting it using Kingroot with no success, both with the APK and the app on PC. Running stock lollipop, obviously. I assumed the argentinian version (H440AR) couldn't be rooted via kingroot, which is why I'm wondering if the only way is to simply unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and then flash SuperSU.

The thing is, you can't unlock the bootloader without first having su permissions.
AR device version shouldn't be a problem.
Mine is Argentinian too and I easily rooted it.
Try with an older version of Kingroot. You can easily find it around apk's sites.
If no luck, try flashing an H440N kdz (I'm on POL v10i) with LG Flash Tool 2014, and see what happens.
You can do a dirty flash if you don't want to lose your data.
P.S.: I even switched from Kingroot to SuperSU. I highly recommend this. Kingroot converts your phone in a turtle.

Hello there. I managed to use kingroot to root one of the two spirits I have (the other one still doesn't budge, for whatever reason) and indeed it turns the phone into a turtle. I was wondering, is it possible to flash superSU without flashing marshamallow before? Not that I'd mind flashing it, but without the ability to use an SD card as internal storage the main advantage is gone, and I wouldn't wanna have MM if it hurts battery time or fluidity of the phone.

If I don't get wrong, you want to stay on a SuperSU rooted LP, right?
Well, you can get that, not by flashing, but by replacing Kingroot with SuperSU.
you'll have to do the following:

P.S.: If you decide to stay on LP for definitely, I highly recommend you apply the Tomo's tweaks.
They get the most of Spirit running LP:

Yes, following this procedure can get your bootloader unlocked. Also LOS does have that blue scrren error, only if you don't have network service. However it's not that big of a issue. You can prevent blue screen by using airplane mode.

Ohh exciting! Thanks for getting getting in touch.
Just curious what your style of custom rom will be? Modified stock, pixel experience, Resurrection Remix style etc?
(UPDATE - just seen your GSI thread now - great work!)
Also you may not know this, but do you have an opinion on bootloader unlocking and camera features being lost? Apparently on older devices it was possible to backup the TA partition etc to avoid this, though indeed this may be unknown territory until we actually get the device (hopefully Thurs 18th June for me!)

About the bootloader unlocks. No worries! Sony isnt using the old Camera tech anymore. Means your Pictures and Videos will be Just fine after unlocking. You can dump Your TA with NewFlasher from XDA which is also recommended for flashing new Xperias with Treble. The only Thing You will loose is the Creator Mode somehow (Don't know how it works on the Mark 2 but i haven't Seen or missed it in my Xperia 5 yet...). Ah this is fantastic news!
Ideally I'd love to root stock on day 1 of getting the device. Am I right in thinking that I should do the following:
1) Backup TA (what's the best way to do this?)
2) Unlock bootloader (via official Sony website)
3) extract boot img (via fastboot or download the latest stock rom? I'm new to xperia so unsure how it all goes for these devices!)
4) patch boot img with magisk
5) flash rooted boot img
Your help is greatly appreciated!
I for one will be active in the community and I suspect it'll grow rather popular!

1) Download NewFlasher from XDA. It will ask You as first or second step to backup TA (Trim Area). Use the included Drivers if needed and awnser all other Prompts with y for yes to flash full firmwares. Do this before unlocking as first step... NewFlasher is for newer Devices so please don't use the old flashing tools...
2) Correct. It will also give You the needed fastboot base for the following steps
3) Download XperiFirm and UnSin from XDA (Same Guy called Igor Eisberg or so). He's a VIP for us...
Download the Correct Firmware for Your Device and extract the boot Sin File with UnSin by drag and drop on the UnSin.exe.
4)You will get an boot Img File which can be rooted with the Magisk Manager before You flash it. Keep Recovery, AVB and Encryption Option Boxes marked under advanced options for the patching...
5) Flash the Patched Boot Image with fastboot like "fastboot flash boot_a boot.img" and "fastboot flash boot_b boot.img" to flash Root to both A/B Slots (Since it's a Treble A/B Device with 2 Slots).
That will be it. After that can You install the MARS_SOM if You want to. I'm releasing BETA2 today and hope it works on the Mark 2 too

Great!
Regarding the TA backup, at what point would I restore that backup? As I really would wish to avoid such loss of any functionality (especially on day 1 haha) and so ideally I think I'll only go for this if/when it can be confirmed that unlocking the bootloader/restoring the TA backup has zero negative effects.
It'll be my intention, best case scenario, to root stock firmware (for theme, ad blocking etc), enjoy it for a short while to get a feel for the device, then play around with custom roms (plus gcam etc) ?
I'll be very keen to try out MARS_SOM, looks like you keep it all stock but with loads of extra tweaks for performance etc sounds great!
I already pre-ordered and can be a tester.. pre ordered the US version from Best buy.

When is your estimated delivery date, July?
I'm UK O2 and hopefully it's arriving this coming Thursday 18th
Unsure if I'm brave enough to unlock straight away for the risk of losing some camera functionality/features, so I may wait to see if someone less concerned tries first..... Lol

After some more Research does it looks like that SONY isn't using DRMs for the Cameras anymore at all, after many claims from Customers over the last Years. The only DRM stuff thats left was for Netflix and the Xperia Services. I haven't seen any Claims or Problems besides that... But let's see If the Xperia 1 II suprises us

Haven't all links here, but My Xperia 5 proofs and this may also be interesting:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-1/help/xperia-1-drm-keys-locking-bootloader-t4079715
There will be no difference once You locked the BL and after flashing Stock again. Your unlock Key will be unique so You May want to keep it on a Safe place in Case You want to unlock again. But Like said, everything works fine over here except for Xperia Services where You can't Login after unlocking...

That's wicked, I would love that!!
Does anyone know if ROMs are vastly different for XQ-AT51 (global single sim version) and XQ-AT52 (global dual sim version)? I preordered while it was not know that it is gonna be a single sim only in EU, so I returned the bundle and am gonna order the dual sim from Wondamobile. Guess flashing custom ROMs made for AT51 won't do the trick?

Hi Miustone,
Maybe you know what I'm doing wrong. Every time I try to run newflasher.exe I get the error
Code:
No usb device with vid:0x0fce pid:0xb00b !
USB debugging is enabled.
OEM Unlocking is NOT toggled.
USB is set to File Transfer mode.
I cannot change the controlled by setting from "This device" to "Connected device."
I am using the USB C to USB C cable that came with the phone.
I tried every configuration possible with this cable (even though it shouldn't matter).
ADB is recognizing the phone.
I tried running it as admin.
I tried with the drivers that come with the phone.
I tried with the gordonGate drivers.
I tried with the manual drivers from Sony.
Any help will be greatly appreciate!
Thanks
Edit: added another item to the list

Question I'm very overwhelmed please help

The last time I rooted a phone was 3 years ago, in general whenever I try to root a phone I feel like the entire process has changed and im completely out of the loop.
All i want to do is make it so i can install f.lux and youtube vanced, how do I do this?
I know that I need to install magisk but apparently I also need to enable the bootloader whatever that means?
Sideload, flashing, caprip, boot-image, fastboot, TWRP: these words mean nothing to me, they serve to confuse and demean me.
Is there any resource for figuring out how to go from a new out-of-the-box moto g30 to one which lets me install youtube vanced? Usually I'd look up a tutorial but the only one I found was in spanish and I don't speak spanish.
Thanks for any help you can give.
First things first.
Android has Night Light built in and Youtube Vanced doesn't need root.
But, if you're still serious about rooting and installing magisk to make use of all of the really useful modules, you'll need:
An Unlocked Bootloader: Motorola's Own Guide
Keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone and void its warranty, so be absolutely sure you want to do it and back up your files.
Then you'll need to manually patch a boot.img from your stock ROM (can be found here.) and flash it using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) using your PC.
I rooted mine within 3 days of owning it and have been enjoying it with no problems whatsoever ever since.
I used this guide as reference. If you have any questions you can always just message me here or on Telegram (@Kuntitled).

Bootloader is small program which runs before Android operating system running. Bootloader is first program to run so It is specific for board and processor. -RootJunky

Unlocking the bootloader
You can flash a custom system only if the bootloader allows it. Note, though, that the bootloader is locked by default. You can unlock the bootloader, but doing so deletes user data for privacy reasons. After unlocking, all data on the device is erased, that is, both private app data and shared data accessible over USB (including photos and movies). Before attempting to unlock the bootloader, back up any important files on the device. - https://source.android.com/setup/build/running

The boot.img is the fie that creates the boot partition
/bootThis is the boot partition of your Android device, as the name suggests. It includes the android kernel and the ramdisk. The device will not boot without this partition. Wiping this partition from recovery should only be done if absolutely required and once done, the device must NOT be rebooted before installing a new one, which can be done by installing a ROM that includes a /boot partition.

Fastboot refers to several things
Fastboot is the fastboot protocol to communicate with an Android device.
Fastboot.exe is the part of SDK Platform-Tools used to communicate with an Android device when it's in fastboot mode.

Twrp is a Custom recovery,
The stock recovery has very limited functions,
a custom recovery has more options
/recoveryThis is specially designed for backup. The recovery partition can be considered as an alternative boot partition, that lets the device boot into a recovery console for performing advanced recovery and maintenance operations on it. -RootJunky

Hi thanks this really helped me get the grip of things haha.
I managed to unlock the bootloader but I'm a bit confused on what stock ROM you were referring to, the link you sent had a bunch of possibilities, I assume I need a reteu one since that's the name of my phone's software channel but there's a wide variety of them and the guide you sent seems to have their own ROM as well.
Either way thanks for all the help!

Root Issue -- won't reboot into recovery mode

Hi --
Old Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 running kitkat. I am using CF Auto Root to root it via Odin and I get the "pass" in Odin but then it just reboots into the existing OS and Supersu is not on the device. The instructions I have been following say that you should try again but switching off the "auto reboot" in odin. I did that, but it just remains in download mode. The instructions said to take out the battery...which, not really an option for the tablet.
I believe I followed all other instructions: I have the correct CF Auto Root file for my build; I have the drivers from Samsung ...
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, and thanks for the reply. Big picture is that I'd like to use the tablet but kitkat obviously is now not compatible with most apps. So really just any reliable way to root so that I can make use of up-to-date/current apps. I can research TWRP and Lineage -- I'm guessing there's a how-to on here somewhere.
Tablet version: SM-t520.

And , obviously, terminology may be/probably is "off" here (newbie and all) ... but I believe there's a step before being able to flash TWRP and Lineage - whether that's "rooting" or "unlocking" or whatever. I'm basically still "stock" at this point.

I see.
Imo it's necessary 1st of all to make sure it's on latest stock to have latest bootloader.
Flashing TWRP with Odin is extremly easy.
Here is a post/thread although written for S4 valid for most others as well.
Written a how-to myself as well but the english part is not as up-to-date as the german is.

No unlocking necessary with that old device.
Rooting means having SU or Magisk but flashing works without as well.

Great, will give this a shot later today. Appreciate the help!
Well, didn't get very far. My understanding is that you have to unlock the OEM bootloader under developer options...which, ... well, I don't have that option listed once I've accessed the developer options. Tried a bunch of options -- factory reset, changed date/time to long ago .... used Smart Switch to check for updates (which one post said would prompt it to appear. Any options for getting this modded without the OEM bootloader unlock option? One post somewhere said that having the USB debugging option checked would work, but .... questionable.

Just use Odin to flash latest TWRP,
Reboot to that TWRP,
Wipe everything plus "Format Data"
Flash suiting ROM and test if it works
reboot to TWRP and flash Gapps fitting this ROM version (I prefer Bitgapps ARM)
Be happy
@tojotojo remember that Odin can only flash .tar and .tar.md5 files
TWRP.....img are to flash later in an old TWRP to get a newer one.
you need check off auto-reboot. it still in dload-mode, then press power to reboot and just as you see it starts boot press recovery-mode key combination to enter recovery. if you are slow, tab will load default system without ur root and recovery. i hope this help you.
