Disabling VoLTE (Verizon) - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
Is there a way to turn off VoLTE? I use my phone as a hotspot, so when I get a call, I don't have internet access. I'm assuming this is because of VoLTE since my last phone (Droid 4) didn't have this issue.
Thanks!

Is this the option you are looking for? 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode'

I always thought having that option disabled is what caused data to turn off during phone calls. I have it enabled and I can still use data while on the phone. That's the toggle to the off VoLTE though.

Sounds like you aren't using VoLTE in the first place. Turning it off won't give you data during a call it would do the opposite.

I've tested it with that both on and off and still lose LTE during a call. :/

Talk and web is only available if you have advanced calling option turned on within your verizon account. Its free.

It doesn't sound like you're using VoLTE exactly because you stated you can't use simultaneous voice and data. Here's the deal: To save battery power or whatever, the additional radio added to Verizon and Sprint (CDMA) phones to enable 4G has been removed from a lot of them, rather converged.
Verizon has always had this problem and they got around it by, finally, adding an additional radio to handle the 4G to many phones. On CDMA networks it's either (I think analog) voice or (I think digital) data. Then, I guess expecting this great big transition to VoLTE (and only needing one radio to simultaneously handle LTE and Voice over LTE) "they" reverted phones to the original model. I mean that has to be it... I would gladly charge my phone more to be able to be able to hotspot and talk! Or maybe they want to sell more JetPacks and separate line access fees!
(This is what allows for all that red on their coverage maps as Verizon's original voice frequencies do rock for signal strength and reliability. The data maps look a lot more similar amongst the carrriers: concentrated on major "markets" as the efficiencies of cities drive the capital to create the networks--rural areas have lousy 4G coverage).
The GSM networks from T-mobile and AT&T automatically fall back to 2, 2.5, 3 and 4G frequencies and can use the newer and the older networks at the same time. You also get better conference calling (up to 5 people) and call management on the GSM based networks.
If you want to use voice and data at the same time on Verizon, edit your account preferences to enable Advanced Calling 1.0 for your line. It is free. Also enable Enhanced 4G LTE mode as shown in the screenshot.
But VoLTE seems to bring its own issues: call complete rates will drop, call quality will drop, static bursts occur at the beginning of calls... it's a real mess.
I really miss T-Mobile, but their network isn't as good and I save money being on the family plan with others on Verizon.

Hi guys, I am having the opposite issue.
I can't get VoLTE ("HD Voice") to work. As a result, no internet when I'm on a phone call. A real pain in the butt.
I'm on CM13 on my Nexus 5x and using Verizon.
I had previously activated this feature on the Verizon website, and it shows the VoLTE flag is 'on' in the phone info/service settings menu. I've seen posts elsewhere where people say CM13 is not working properly with VoLTE.
Should I flash to a different ROM perhaps? Appreciate any ideas...

T-mobile Orange share on a root?

Hi all,
I'm running neo's latest 7.9 fully rooted etc. I've tried to take advantage of the fact that in the uk you're supposed to be able to use both tmobile and orange networks. Despite doing everything you're supposed to including running all steps via CS my sim card wont register on tmobile.
My question is, is this anything to do with de-branding or rooting?
Any help appreciated
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I don't see how it would. I'm rooted and debranded yet mine works. It just takes a while for it to work. When did you register it? And I don't think this is really 'development' by the way.
I was originally on T-Mobile, followed the steps and had all of the text messages (took around 24hrs for all of them to come through).
I had noticed that I was still getting around the same signal, which was weird as I practically sit next to an Orange transmitter.
Then I noticed I had to change my provider in the phone's settings from 't-mobile' to 't-mobile orange' and *wham* full strength.
Sorry - can't say from Orange to Orange/T-mobile.

I dont have that on my settings.
I have the usual single operator list. Maybe it will take 24 hours but I got the texts to confirm its been set up almost instantly.

I did this a few weeks ago and I didn't think it had made any difference whatsoever. Signal keeps dropping out for no reason, 3g is rubbish. Then just a few days ago I had a text come through "congratulating" me on connecting to T-Mobile for the first time, so I guess it is working.
I don't have any T-Mobile Orange option to choose though? Also, the Orange signal still seems to be cutting out. I'm considering ringing them up and telling them that they're in breach of contract and I'm terminating it because they can't provide the service they agreed to give me. Might shake them up a bit.
Have you tried turning on your data roaming in mobile network settings? It said something about it when I did it earlier on today and mine started working a minute after I'd text YES.
works fine for me. i'm running leedroid 2.2a and works perfectly. I now get full signal in my cellar where my signal used to cut out and my phone displays T-mobile (orange) T-mobile in the notification bar. the signal kicks in depended on the strength of the other carriers signal.
phono
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE that what theyre calling it ... more like Some more in some places to be honest but...
download PHONO from android market..
it shows a great logo for each connected network and you roaming status.
and then providing you did the activation setup orange asked you to do - and you select roaming - it all works perfecly...

You guys know you're not supposed to "Choose" anything?
Infact, the only setting you should change is to allow Data while roaming (Roaming should already be enabled).
If you're on T-Mobile, it wont switch to Orange if the Orange signal is stronger than the T-Mobile one and vice-versa, this isn't coming until early 2011.
What it will do however is, if you drop your signal completely on 1 network and there is signal on the other network, you will roam on the other network until the phone can regain connectivity on the home network.
Moved to Q&A as not development.

WiFi Calling GREAT on new ROM T989UVKL1

Having used UMA on a hardware UMA-enabled phone extensively, and then the crappy laggy software on an earlier Android ... this new WiFi calling ROCKS!!!! No lag, seems great so far
I've questions about this WIFI calling feature. I know that it's unlimited and that it will not be applied towards our normal daily minutes.
My questions are, can you make WIFI calls even if you are receiving excellent tmobile signals? So say I'm at home with wifi connected and have excellent tmobile signal, then I make a call which will it use? Or if I have WIFI calling turned on, it will automatically make my calls using wifi instead of regular tmobile?
Just trying to get an understanding.

It's up to you. If you enable wifi calling, it'll use the wifi network. If you have it turned off, it'll use cellular radio. You don't have to have a weak signal to use it. All wifi calling does is turn off the cellular radio, and route everything through wifi. (It's a good battery saver as well.) If you're in an area that has no signal or very low, it's even more useful. I use it at work and at home. (At work, I get next to no signal at all. All tmobile phones i've used suck in my office. At home I get 15mbit dl speed on 4g, but I still use wifi calling sometimes there as well.)
Also, it DOES count towards your minutes, it's not unlimited unless you have a plan that will allow you to take advantage of the offer they have going right now. (Sadly, I don't.)
hmmm, that's not what I was told by the tmobile rep (just spoke to one of them). They said that wifi calling is unlimited and it will not go towards my 1000 anytime minutes. Now I'm starting to wonder if they knew what they are talking about.
If they are offering you the promotion where it's unlimited, then it is. However if you have an older plan, you can't get the promotion. So unless you get that, it counts towards your minutes. (Hell it even says so right in the app when it's run)
I just got off the phone again with another tmobile rep.
Here is what she said.
1. Your phone will use WIFI calling as long as you have wifi calling enabled on the phone and that you have connection to a router.
2. Will it use your whenever minutes? DEPENDS. if you have the newer plan (like i do, the 1000 whenever family time minutes), then it will NOT be counted towards my whenever minutes, thus I have unlimited wifi calling (GREAT!).
3. If you are under an old plan, then it MIGHT be counted towards your whenever minutes. so i say contact them and ask.
Thus, mstrk242 is right in all aspect. I guess its time for me to update my phone.
If you have free wifi calling in your account (see pic) then it won't count toward your minutes. I have the new plan but have to call to ask them add free wifi service to my account.

AT&T hotspot - "Wi-Fi Hotspot Access Failed"?

Ever since AT&T revealed that all unlimited users are now capped to 3gb/month (5gb for LTE), aka no more 5% crap, I can't get my Nitro automatically connect to any ATT hotspots around the town. I get message in notification bar saying
Unable to confirm eligibility, please call Customer CARE at 800-331-0500.

Before that, every time there is a hotspot available the phone automatically connects and nothing required from the user's side. Now I have to manually open browser and agree with their terms of service.
Anyone experiencing this?
I will test mine out to see if I get the same issue, and report back my findings.
I've had that happen a few times recently too. The app would seem to keep trying and would eventually connect successfully.

I'm having the same problem. I've been bounced back and forth between AT&T Mobility and AT&T Wi-Fi so many times. Like you I can always get in by going to the login screen and logging in with my DSL credentials. I also have a grandfathered "unlimited" data plan.
I recall this happening previously (like when I go through a McDonald's drive-thru) but I've only chased after it since March 1. It's happened in 2 different hotspots, one in Boston and one in Memphis.
I'm on a Samsung Captivate with OEM Gingerbread.

Here is my conspiracy theory:
AT&T trying make us, unlimited plan users, use all the capped data as quicker as possible to slow it done sooner, make us more pissed off and switch to limited plans.
Make sense?
Try restoring the hotspot app in Titanium Backup again and then reboot.

Can't use Titanium. I'm not rooted.
I tried clearing the application data. I'll post back whether that helps or not.
Running latest Kernelpanic rom I don't experience this problem.
I finally got my WISPr connect to work. In "Wi-Fi settings" I had "Network notification" unchecked. I checked this and then went to an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
It connected!
Not wanting to leave "Network notification" checked and get all those nagging notifications I unchecked it and visited another AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
It connected!
See if this helps you.
It is actually nothing to do with our phones, it's ATT ****ing with us.
I've checked it with 3 different phones, all had the same problem.
Now, all three one day connecting fine another - no go.
Come to Canada it works...wait forget it we don't have ICS. ;-)

I fully believe this is exactly what they are doing. It pisses me off, but instead of switching plans I'll switch APNs. HAHA I win!

[Q] Tmobile Note 3 on ATT network?

Anyone else running a Tmobile Note 3 on the AT&T network? Is there any difference in reception or LTE? I've seen in other threads people complain that they dropped calls and had less reception with the Tmobile hardware on ATT, I'd be curious to see DB measurements and not simply rely on the reception bars. Also heard complaints that the Tmobile N3 doesn't hand onto ATT LTE signals well.
Also using the Tmobile Note 3 on the ATT network does;
1) does tethering still work?
2) does it work with an AT&T microcell?

My wife and I both use straight talk which runs off of AT&T towers and when I'm at the house I have full bars and my speed was 20 if I remember correctly, at work I get 3-4 bars but never any reception problems. Hope this helps a Lil bit.
I'm running my N900T on AT&T with CM 11 and have noticed that my phone randomly drops back to Edge and even G sometimes. It has completely lost data access occasionally too. I put my phone in airplane mode and it goes back to full LTE, but that's bothering me. I don't know how to fix it.

You can download Advanced Signal Status. Then go to additional info then device info and you can change the network mode to LTE only to force it to reconnect to LTE always.

I tested the app here, and although it says my LTE signal is at 100%, my data connection is being disabled every time I make a call. I tried changing the preferred network type to LTE only in the phone info menu and calls drop as soon as I hit the call button on the dialer. Also, in the phone info menu, the option to enable/disable data shows only as "enable" during a call, which means data is disabled, and clicking it does nothing. As soon as I hang up, my data connection restarts and goes to 2G. I don't know if this is a problem with CM 11, so I'll try a Touchwiz ROM in a minute. Any other suggestions?

No problems at all with touchwiz. Probably a CM11 problem.

Hack WiFi Calling into working with unsupported Carriers

Hi,
As my Provider does support WiFi Calling for the Samsung S6, S7 and iPhones i tought it should somehow be possible to get it working on my HTC10.
With the newest 1.98.709.5 Update the ROM itself should fully support VoLTE and WiFi-Calling, but it's a TW branded ROM so it obviously only supports Taiwan Carriers.
So there are two options:
A: Fake/Spoof my phone into thinking it's connected to a Taiwan Carrier.
B: Modify the System/App that it works with my Carrier.
While searching the Web i mostly found DAU webpages that show the setting option to activate WiFi calling ~.~
Only for the Z2 there seems to be a modification to get VoLTE and WiFi calling working. But they have way more stuff to edit and my carrier does not support VoLTE anyway.
So after stooping around the system for a while i couldn't find anything in build.prop related to WiFi calling.
But i found these few APKs in /system/priv-app that might be related.
CustomizationSettingsProvider.apk
SettingsProvider.apk
WFCWifiCall.apk
I tried to decompile them with APKtool and take a closer look.
The thing is... i suck at stuff like that. I have literally no idea about android app development.
.smali ? wtf is that?
In the /res/xml/ of WFCWifiCall.apk i found an ims_qanda.xml and ims_qanda_metropcs.xml
The MetroPCS simply has MetroPCS instead of T-Mobile
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
