Help! Indentify my unit no recovery? - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

I bought a "Joying" lookalike unit on Aliexpress
The problem is now it has no recovery so can't change software
if i press power button and res then it boots in like a "red line bar with start update in right corner" but it does nothing with the update.img
in android when i try to flash a recovery like TRWP it tells me there is "NO recovery partition"
can someone help me out?
some pic of unit klik HERE

This does not look like a MTCB headunit - it does not have one of the CPU's or MCU's that these MTCB (formally known as HuiFei) units have. I don't think you will be able to use any of the ROM's in these forums.

it has a RK3188 cpu like other units..

Doesn't matter what cpu it has. If it's not an MTCB unit then these ROMs won't work.
Try googling the MCU type for help

it's a unit based on http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=707069
see this thread on XDA
Allwinner R16 Cortex A9 Quad Core 1.6GHz
The firmware there works on the unit.
Now running the Navi IQ firmware and thats way better.

There is a dev by the name of OMA who does loads of ROMs for rockchip tablets. He has ROMs on XDA and his own website also. He helped me when i bricked my RK2198 .Just google him.
Use finless rom for the RK3168, i think the topic starter can use the same.

[Q] Rooting a Sumvision Cyclone X4

Hi
First post, apologies if I'm in the wrong forum
I have used many Sumvision Cyclone X2's in the past, which have been great for XBMC. These devices were rooted by default. They seem to have discontinued these and replaced them with the Sumvision Cyclone X4, which are not rooted.
The specifications for the device are
CPU: AmLogic S805 quad core A5 1.5 Ghz
GPU: Quad core Mali 450
RAM: 1GB DDR3
Storage: 8GB
Input: 2 x USB port, 1 x Micro SD/ SDHC slot
WIFI: 802.11 b/g/n 150 mbps
LAN: RJ45 / ethernet
Video output: HDMI 1.4 up to 1080p
Android: KitKat 4.4
Would anyone know of a method to be able to root this device.
Cheers
Just bought one also, would love to root
Looks like someone on Freaktab has managed to get root: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?19650-Could-someone-please-root-this-stock-ROM
Not tested myself, as my girlfriend has taken my box away for Xmas
Yess
I can confirm the freaktab method is a winner and i now have root
Custom ROM for Cyclone X4
I have found a custom ROM for the Cyclone X4 that works brilliantly.
The ROM is meant for the MXQ box, however as the hardware is the same I thought I would give it a shot. It installs no problem and runs smoother than the stock firmware. It is also pre-rooted and the pre-installed XBMC 13.2 works properly with the AMLogic hardware acceration too.
I have tried everything I can try and everything is working spot on, however.....
YOU WILL NEED A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ATTACHED OR BE USING AN AIR MOUSE AS THE SUPPLIED REMOTE NO LONGER WORKS WITH THIS ROM. ALSO IF YOU TURN OFF THE BOX YOU CAN NO LONGER TURN IT BACK ON USING THE REMOTE, YOU WILL NEED TO UNPLUG AND PLUG BACK IN!
There is a reboot application already installed however, so if you need to reboot, use that.

Cheers. Will give this a try when I get finally get my hands on my box. Do I need to do anything different to install? Someone mentioned on Freaktab about removing the bootloader from the custom ROM.
No, I just did as the instructions say. Just unzip everything from the downloaded file to the root of a FAT32 formatted micro SD card and use the standard update procedure. Keep pressing the menu button on the remote while plugging the box in, keep repeatedly pressing until you see the droid on screen.

That ROM has now been updated: http://www.mbox.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=313
Might try and update mine tonight.
Hi is there any new updates to this rom, or anything else which works better that standard rom for cyclone x4?
I updated the new information as stated. I now find the video link with the film fracture and streaming bits of the picture at a time. So what's gone wrong, and how can I get a complete film without the streaming coming in fractured bits?
If anyone is still looking for info on this you can download the normal or rooted version from sumvision
cyclone-android x4
hope this helps

i9195L - black edition

Hi,
I did not find much informations on the i9195L (note the "L") so i am creating a new thread.
I bought and successfully flashed (using cmw as recovery) a few i9195.
Today I got this new i9195l - black editions for my sun.
It has 4 cores (arm cortex @ 1.20) and uses an adreno 306 gpu.
Looks good except I am unable to flash it:
-put it in download mode
-send the cwm 6.0.5.1
-reboot in recovery mode
-tells me "could not boot in normal mode"
-knox warranty is now void (as expected)
Tried to flash a few times, with or without reboot, with or with f reset time, nothing works
Something which seems to be new : it mentions "qualcomm secureboot: enable (csb)".
Any idea?
I would really like to flash a cyanogen 12.x like I did on my other s4 mini phones...
Regards,
Erwan
Bump. I'm interested too, I want to buy one but I'm not sure about the modding possibilities. You might be wrong about the L though. I found a model with the same specs, but it's an i9195i.

Right ! this is an i not an l (for letter).
seems it also goes under the name S4 mini plus ? see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62212646&postcount=51 .
I believe we need a recovery built for this device specific kernel, a specific CM version?
more information here : http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/110203-gt-i9195i-supported/ .
Seems some guys managed to root it and also that there is a twrp variant.
My concern with flashing a new image is it wont be signed correctly and the secureboot will reject it.
Or will a custom recovery take the secureboot away?

MTC Unit, need help with a few easy question

Hi!
I have an MTC Unit with android 4.4, RK3188 processor, 7 inches, and it's already rooted. I want to know a few things:
1) I don't have physics buttons, how can I get into the recovery mode?
2) How can I know if my unit is MTCB, MTCD or MTCC?
3) If I have android 4.4 can I install android 5.1 with Malaysk ROM?
4) If I want to install Malaysk ROM, I have to use 800x480 or 1024x600?
5) Is there any way to use NAND flash memory to install apps, without install any custom ROM?
Thank's for your help!
Regards.

Help with updating head unit

Hi,
Iv tried to learn as much as I can off the forum before posting but I am still unsure on how to proceed updating/upgrading my headunit as it is running very slow,
Here is the info
MTCD_GS_V2.38_1
Mar 14 2017
Android version 5.1.1
kernel version
3.0.101+
[email protected] #119
Build number
rk3188-userdebug 22022017.10:51:05
Model
A-Media AUTO (1024x600w)
CPU ARM cortex-A9 @1,6ghz (x4)
Memory 1024
Can anyone point me the way in what I can do/need to do to update it and get better performance? My unit is made for the mercedes CLS, would this effect anything, can I also upgrade from Lollipop for an updated user interface?
Many thanks, Alex

thank you I will look more into the new board, will I run into problems with the bluetooth and wifi? I have seen a few mentions of this.
In the meantime can i update the MCU and maybe a lighter ROM to help speed things up? Im unsure of which to look for to do this
Thanks, Alex

Read the first posts of that thread I linked to understand how to upgrade and follow the recommendations for 1gb ram devices
For the mcu update....
Navigate to dmcu folder and your manufacturer GS
