Hi guys, I really need the power of the internet now. My googling powers have let me down, and now there's only you guys left to help me!!
I got a Lg g3, and i've enjoyed it for a while. I have experiemented a little with it (rooting and installing roms) and it's about 2 years old i think.
And now, the wierdest problem that I really can't understand, i'll try to explain as good as i can!
It all started a couple of days ago, my phone just rebooted as soon as I started up Snapchat. After a day, this reboot appeared more frequently, and yesterday I gave up. The thing is, as long as it's charging, it works fine, all of the programs. But when I woke up this morning, it's completely ruined.... i see the LG startup screen, and then the lock screen. As soon as i touch the screen, it restarts again!
I've tried factory reset and wiping data and stuff.... If any more information is required, i'll provide it as soon as possible!
I believe in you guys, help me out!
I thought about overheating, but since it works while charging, i ruled that out, right?

So, your phone its ok while on charging right?
Guess it's time to buy a new battery...
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
u sure it's the battery? cause it works a bit better right now. How can i check if it's the battery that's the flaw? it's so wierd that it just got more and more random reboots....
That sounds like the battery as it was the expect problem I had 6 months ago with a battery that was about the same age as yours. I found that my battery had started to swell, very big problem with lithium batteries when they go bad. If you take your battery out and look at it side on there should be no bulging anywhere on the battery, if you see any bulging then stop using it until you can get a replacement.
At the time my phone would work fine when plugged in but would constantly reboot when on battery power.
It seems like that's not the problem, right now it's working fine. I checked the battery and no swellings at all! Could there be any other reason for my phone to act out the way it did/does sometime still?
Did the rebooting start at a particular battery level? Reason I ask is that my spare battery is now showing the same symptoms, but only when lower than 55%, phone will reboot and immediately be at 15%. I pulled the battery out and could feel slight raises along it, not enough to see but I could feel it when compared to my other battery.

Dear Taynor, Try flashing stock firmware of your device. If you suspect your device battery, then first replace it and check whether rebooting issue is still there. Otherwise, flashing stock firmware resolve many issues. Use kdz with LG Flash tool 2014. It is easy to flash firmwares with LG Flash Tool 2014.

Hello dear friends!
HTC let me down Kind of stupid phones indeed at least desire...
I have my phone for quite a time now, it is rooted with unrewoked, clockwork recovery and s-on. I flashed many different roms in the past and everything was brilliant. In a pas half-a-year or so I stayed with only one ROM - MIUI-Au. I kept updating it to the newer versions and so on and on. Never had any random reboot or something. At least maybe it was because of some strange app or something else. But now it started to reboot randomly and constantly!
Phone gets hot abit and it just reboots, and never comes to android homescreen again, until I put out the battery, hold it for few minutes, pop it back and then it boots. But as soon as start to play music, or run a game the phone gets hot abit and reboots again. and so on and on. I thought maybe it was a miui issue. So I tried to flash different roms, but guess what? None of the even boot! The main screen shows and with the same second it bootloops again and forever!... (
Even from recovery it sometimes reboots randomly. So i managed somehow to flash my miui back and it at least boots. But it is very unstable now, I barely can use my phone now
PLEASE WHO CAN HELP ME????
My warranty probably out of date, and my phone is rooted, I dont think HTC would accept it...
any thoughts? friends?
What have you set the CPU max to?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thank you for response! Appreciate, really!! I didn't set it, I left everything by default I think! Because as i said, i even tried flashing different roms, not only miui.
What else could be? By the way, with stock froyo rom If I remember correctly, sometimes it became extremely hot, but I didnt get any reboots from that. But now, it gets just a little bit hot and it seems that this causes the reboot...
Now what I just noticed, I get reboots even when the phone is idle. And it is not even warm!
If its not getting hot then I'm confused lol. It sounds like a actual hardware fault. Sorry I can't help with this one

try and get it taken back to stock if you dare.
The phone hasn't been out 2 years yet, which is how long the warranty is.
Thank you! But is there any possibility to fix it without HTC involvement? Maybe it is not hardware issue ? Can it be because phone is rooted and I flashed many roms to it ? I didnt try AOSP roms since reboots started, I will try to pop in Cyanogenmod or other and see if I will get reboots.
Would rerooting my phone and updating my recovery fix the problem?
and Note: yesterday I tried to S-OFF my phone, but I can't even do that with my unstable MIUI. It rebooted in the middle of the process..
I had a similar problem, apparently it's not uncommon on the early revisions. I sent mine to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Thank you for answer! But what if my phone is bought through a contractor?
Can just call HTC and ask the for repair? Or should I contact my contractor first ?
Just give them a call and they will try to help you out. I had a very good customer service experience with them when my desire had some issues.
They will require a proof of purchase though. If you managed to get the receipt from your "contractor" (I am unsure what you mean by a contractor), then there should be no problem.
Sorry for misleading word, I meant T-Mobile. I bought my phone under contract. I think I have a receipt. I even have whole box and stuff of the phone somewhere in my drawer.(just sayin ). So how is customer service of HTC? Poor, good ? I heard you need to tell them that you did a factory reset and that didn't help. Is that true. Also if I will unroot my phone, will they know it was rooted anyhow?
Ahhh....this overheating issue seems common. How they can release faulty phones?? No clue.
thanks for answers mates!
In Singapore, HTC service is really good. Phone was still under warranty.
It took me just one (real) call to confirm a repair order. The first call I was just checking to see what options were available to me.
The second call was an actual repair request. And the third call was me pestering them for a pickup date. heehee
In Singapore, repairs were done via courier. They picked it up and 1 working day later, they sent it back.
Naturally, you will probably need to impress upon them that you tried everything to fix your phone (which I hope you did which includes proving to yourself that it's not the ROMs fault).
You will definitely need to reset everything back to zero. In my case, I downloaded an RUU to totally reset everything back to STOCK, which included removing clockworkmod recovery. You WILL need to create a goldcard for this though so bear in mind that it's not exactly a case of a simple flashing procedure. At least not if you don't already have a goldcard.
Sorry if I overread it at some point, but you speculated at the beginning there could be some faulty app causing this, but you never meantioned performing a full wipe. Have you full wiped yet? Just to make sure it is indeed no software problem.
greets
Thank you for your answers. At the moment I have SuperNova classic ROM. ( 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1) But my phone crashes again and again, it is so annoying and causes me so much trouble.
I never tried a reset or unroot and return to original rom. Im just wondering now, would this help to remove or at least remove those reboots?
Today I was in my work and i was keeping my phone in my jeans pocket. it got hot as u would expect when keeping in pocket and suddenly it rebooten, then it went into a bootloop and started to bootloop 7 times in a row quickly. then again and again. It became very hot at that time.
For the interest, what exact hardware faults causes these reboots and why phone gets even hotter if you keep it on boot loop. If I keep phone cold, the rom usualy stays normal, without reboots. but as soon as I start using my phone, texting or calling for at least 5minutes of using it just reboots.
as I said- really annoying thing :S
I remember my happy times with miui, apps and no reboots Was fun!
cheers for helping!
I would give full wipe / factory reset a chance, and maybe RUU.
At least try it before sending phone to htc.
It is hardware problem, search forum. Fresh ROM without SD card, enabled WIFI and GPS, running G navigation, back of the phone is warm - restart after few minutes.
Maybe someone know how to read info form the phone right before reset? We could understand why the phone is reseting and hopefully add some patch.
Reboot-loop experience
Hey,
i had the same problem over the last few months: In the beginning my phone restarted only when it got hot, but it got worse over the last few weeks, in the end i was not able to use two apps at the same time (music and mytracks) or even to surf the internet longer than a few minutes. The problem did noticeably decrease when the phone was cool - tested by putting it on a fan or in the fridge. Yet, Skype was regularly killing it. As i really love my phone (and especially the AMOLED-Screen!) i did not want to resign. The battery cover contains some metal which is supposed to enhance heat dissipation - so i attached a little thermal pad to the hotter bottom of the phone to improve contact with the head spreader. Unfortunately it did not entirely fix the problem. Yes, it improved the situation a little, but it got even worse after a week or two - in the end i had to turn it in.
So i decided to take it to the Telekom-Shop. They were very kind and told me they would call the other day to confirm that the replacement would have been shipped. It took a few days longer, but i got a phone with the AMOLED-Screen! The employee said it was a used mainboard in a new case, completely refurbished. They only replaced the main unit, i kept the battery, sd-card, charger and so on. Now i have a working Desire again!

Hello Guys,
so i got my new one x yesterday and im not very happy with it.
1. It does some random reboots, just lying around and reboots sometimes.
2. Phone "hangs up" with black screen and blinking buttons. As far as i know this is a "kernel panic"
This happened about 5 times now, last time as im writing this.
3. Battery drain is huge, seems like a result of the above problems. Android OS has about 90% battery usage and it dropped to 82% after 54mins without charging and just lying around.
On the both screens you can hopefully notice it, 26mins and it lost 10% battery.
After this kernel panic the battery drain changed and the Android OS stopped to drain so much battery.
This is the "out of the box" state of my phone. I changed nothing beside from charging the battery and installed some apps (normal stuff, angry birds and such).
Does someone have a idea about this? I hope or assume these a software related problems. But im not sure with the kernel panic thing can this be due to hardware issues? Should i ask for a replace?
You said you installed a few apps and games. Try going back to factory settings first, wait a while and see if the pattern repeats, if the phone behaves normally, then it must be something you installed, not all apps are optimised for ICS.
Good luck!

check your kernel version pls
Ok thanks for your first impressions and help. Im trying the factory reset now.
I have done a screenshot of the kernel version.
First of all, and probably most important is to leave your phone charging for 6-8 hours without turning it on.
Then its spend the battery time where you do whatever it takes to.empty the battery completely until the phone is ready to shut down. Shut it down. Repeat charge process from above with device off. Turn it on and then you can be ready to test it for real. As far as reboots, you really should let the system settle down a bit. Give it a day or 2 without some extra heavy usage and I'm sure it will be just fine.

i hope this isnt a joke
joke or not, normal stuff apps can cause problems. the whole Android OS battery usage is because of apps you installed. it's a brand new phone and i wouldn't be too worried about it. i switched from Samsung to HTC because Samsung releases broken source code and doesn't seem like they really know how to do anything but stick hardware together. if i'm not happy with HTC, then maybe Motorola is making the next Nexus phone and i'll give that a try.
Please do keep us updated on how's everything working out ? Did the factory reset solved the issue? Hope this ain't an April fool joke ! Anyways hope everything goes well for you mate. Kept my fingers crossed on mine one x
So ok, i tried the factory reset twice. Seems Not to work atm. Im going to try it again. I hope Arhd and s-off is working soon
Im curios, maybe there are more ppl with this Problem after monday / tomorrow.
Ill keep you up2date.

Return it.
There's no way a factory-reset device should be behaving that way. My guess would be hardware problems.
First wave of a new phone is always more risky, you can get a faulty device

Agreed, it sounds screwed to me.
I can't speak for the rest of the world - but I don't really know why people panic. If the phone ends up being unstable it's going back and they'll be refunding my contract - it's really that simple.
There was a similar problem on the original Desires. Linked to overheating especially with GPS.

I'm not going to say your wrong but could you post some evidence? Ok the first part is per the user manual so I will agree with that one. However there should be no need to empty and re-charge the battery should there? According to this site: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_charge_when_to_charge_table Deep discharge wears the battery down. It also says no priming is needed.
Then the second point letting the system settle down? what? let what "settle down"? I don't even understand this statement. If you explain what you mean and again if you can provide some evidence that would be great. Thanks.
same problem
I experience the exact same problem. Random reboots and crashes.
What did you end up doing?
same problem too
Me too.
Get the phone for 2 days, and randoms reboots.
Get the same kernel that Dreist.
Try yesterday a factory reset, but no change.
I have the same problem. Constant reboots out of the blue. I'm back on my nexus which is super reliable. Probably gonna return it.
Got 3 reboots in a row yesterday but it was after flashing bricked kernel and battery under 23%, plugged the AC cable and no more reboots, perhaps the battery level is false with bricked kernel...
Just swapped mine out for a new one but now the new one has a yellowish screen. (sigh)
I have randomly started experiencing a problem where my device would turn off randomly which has gradually gotten worse to the point where it's stuck in a boot loop sort thing and will shut off randomly during boot then restart.
The problem started by every now and then (sometimes not happening for a day at a time) the phone would turn off then turn back on again gradually getting worse. The problem started when I installed the latest update during the update the screen froze (no it was not interrupted in anyway and done officially through the phone) so after leaving it overnight and it not progressing I took the chance and removed the battery. it then turned on and finished the update without an issue. The phone has since as I explained got into a 'boot loop' sort scenario where it will work if the charger is plugged in but couldn't be a battery issue as doesn't turn off if I put it into download mode. Things I've tried: Doing a complete reset- Still no fix. and now today I entered download mode and re-installed the firmware which was successful but still no prevail?! What the hell could this be?! Thanks

Well i guess im not alone as i have the same exact problem as you do! WHich version do you have? I have the White T-Mobile version and i bought it the same week it was on sale i felt that i got a phone that was part of a bad batch because of some problems ive had with it but i didnt buy insurance for it. i was on LG's OS and it started to get worse and worse so i restored it and went to a lollipop rom. its still happening but it only reboots once. however, as soon as i start using apps it reboots on me. i want to unroot it but at the same time i dont want to go through the trouble of rooting it again. Any ideas of what it could be?
My problem just randomly started happening and i noticed this started happening strangely after my phone completely died on me and didnt want to turn on so i connected it to the charger and it started charging but had a yellow warning triangle somewhere on the screen.

Hey, nice to hear someone has the same issue, I however hvent had the yellow warning triangle come up yet, as an update all of a sudden it keeps turning off as soon as it boots even on charge!!!??? It just keeps getting gradually worse?! However I have noticed the battery % it shows when turned off is 100% and very randomly it displays 70% then when the phone boots it will show 2% for the 2 seconds it stays on before it dies?!

Hey sorry for taking so damn long on replying i've been busy studying for some exams.
I've got good news for you though, i took my phone in to T-Mobile and showed them my problem. Without me putting much effort into persuading them, they shipped me a new phone, and no i didn't pay for insurance on T-Mobile, this was covered by LG's 1 year Manufacturers warranty!
Anyways, I received the device but did not receive a battery. So i tried my battery on the new one and what do you know? SAME PROBLEM!
So yea you should either try to unroot the phone and take it to the store but don't mention that you think its the battery, they'll send you a new phone! Then just buy a battery online or call them after a few days and say your problem is still occurring with the new phone and see if they send you a replacement battery, im a little skeptical on this second option as id rather keep this new phone haha

Hi, even i am having this problem, my phone is a D855 and in my country (Mozambique) i am not using a contract so its different than US, we have a LG store here but in the LG website our country is not stated. So only way is to go to a trusted Store that repairs phone here. My question is that, when its not connected in the charger it just keeps reboting (the notification LED doesnt even blink) infinite times. At first i thought it was a software but after going from Stock to Cloudy to CandyRom the problem was still there. Then after i plugged in a charger the phone would succesfully boot up and i could use it normally but had to stay connected on a charger. So what have you done to fix this? Did you replace the battery with a new one and then it stopped rebooting?? Please help me as i want to buy a new battery but first want to confirm if its the battery at fault....

Hello buddy, sorry for taking so long to reply. Im usually not on XDA too much. Yes i solved my issue with a new battery. I tried my bad battery on 2 lg g3s and it rebooted both. I also unrooted my phone and flashed a completely stock update and was still having that issue.

No problem bro! Got a new battery and do far my phone doesnt reboot, but the only problem i am having is that my phone shutsdown at 30% battery and when trying to turn on it says it has 0%

Im having the same problem gotba new battery and no different so annoying
Best thing just happened. I had the G3 for a while and my first one had an issue and had to get a warranty replacement. Long story short... I got two more G3s from T-Mobile that were defective and most carries have a policy where if you get 3 warranty replacements you can chose a different phone. To wrap it up, you can ask for a phone of equal or lesser value when purchased from the carrier (I bought mine off eBay and they didn't even notice, I spoke to several reps and no one caught on.) So they can either send you a whole new phone, a new battery, or in my case: I received a new LG G4 since I had gone through three which pretty much anyone can do with a bad battery.
Guys. Im having this same exact problem on my LGG3!!!
Expired Battery or Faulty Power Button could be the culprit
This issue just started happening to my LG G3 over the last 2 weeks. I've had my LG G3 for exactly 15 months and all of a sudden it started cycling endlessly and if it did get to my locked screen and i tried to unlock it it would just restart again.
I found that when I plugged in the device to a wall charger or high power power brick, it would halt the reboots but otherwise it would get stuck in an endless cycle of partial reboots (when it did stop after plugging in, I would find all my apps still open and waiting for me, so they weren't real power cycles).
One of my coworkers has a newer LG G3, so we swapped batteries and immediately he had the cycling issue on his phone and with his battery in my phone the issue vanished.
On closer inspection, my battery was a few months past its expiration (FYI to anyone with a LG G3 - your battery will expire more or less exactly as its warranty protection does!), so went and bought a new battery and everything is fine now.
For those of you who have tried replacing the battery and find it still occurs, another coworker said his wife had a similar issue on a different device and it was resolved by having the power button replaced, so it is possible that this could be a factor also and you should have your phone sent in for inspection/repair.
Hope this is helpful for some of you.

I've had the same issue since February, when my phone was about 17 months old. It kept turning off saying SIM card not detected. I tried replacing the SIM card and washing that area with alcohol with no luck. Then I replaced the battery with a second one that came with the phone which I'd never used, but I noticed no difference. It also has no phone service for several hours without my knowledge. LG just told me to reset the phone, but it looks like that doesn't work from what I've read. T-Mobile said they'd give me a new phone but there are no G3s in stock and offered me a Samsung 3, which is three years old, so I am worried that it won't be able to handle the software updates. It's ridiculous that a phone that costs this much won't even last long enough for me to pay it off. My last phone was an Iphone, which I had for more than four years.
I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, posted a detailed explanation of the problem and got 0 replies and a few hundred views (thanks guys!)
Easy answer:
Replace your battery
Thats what I did, and the problem is now gone. When you do get a new battery make sure you drain it completely first, then charge it for 4 hours without exceptions.
I tried factory resetting, installing a new firmware, going to stock and going to custom but nothing worked.
The girl in the shop where i bought the battery surprised me, i just asked her if they had one available and her immediate reply way "why, is your g3 stuck in a boot loop?", apparently EVERY SINGLE PERSON that bought a g3 battery from them had the exact same issue.
Now the problem is gone, and my phone actually lasts longer than before.

Hey, I am having the EXACT same issue. LG G3 was stuck in an endless loop, replaced the battery, now it works down to about 30% and shuts off. When I try to restart it says 0%. I even tried a third different battery, and still getting that 30% shutdown. Did you ever figure out what it was? I am wondering is it something to do with how the phone reads the battery charge i.e. does it think the battery is dead when it gets to 30%? It has e stumped!! Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.
wtf, actually same with my LG G3,after when I bought a new battery. Shutsdown at 30% and it says has 0%.
same problem

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM help PLEAAAAASE
Okay I recently wrote a thread about the random restrarts on my g3 that happened 10 times a day, but the things have gone too far. As i was having random restarts when I monstly use the camera but not only for about 5 days and some of those restarts were also shutdowns now the problem is more serious. Today i was intending to take a picture of something and as usual the phone restarted but STUCK on the startup boot "picture" that says that lifes good and then goes black screen and startup picture and black screen and so on. I wasn't able to use the phone. I pulled out the battery and tried again but it didn't worked. So as I went home i plugged the phone ot the charger and when i powered it on it started normally and tried to take pictures and there weren't any problems. So I think that this is the battery that is making this **** to happen. I highly doubt that this is software problem but from my quick examination i think that the problem is from the battery . What do You think. Tommorow i will go to my carrier and "ll try to explain them about this. But they are usually jerks who don't know anything about phones. They only know how to get your money.Anyways. Yes.

Are you rooted? Did you flash anything? Did you edit any system files? Looks exactly like when I bricked my phone. There is a fix. Check out this thread and the links in it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-g3-unbricking-steps-clarification-t3119844
Also can you access download mode or recovery. You might want to try them first.
No I havent rooted it or made any system modifications. This problem occurs only when my phone isnt charging. When iits charging even at 100% there isnt any problem
I've gone to my stupid carriers office and explained everything but they do not want to give me a new battery unless they bring the phone to the other end of the country for repair. This is extremely stupid. Now I can't use my phone because its totally "bricked". I xan only use it with my original dc charger if i unplug it the phone shuts off. Yesterday Ive decided to make a factory reset, but i wanted to copy my internal storage to my pc, but the phone won't turn on when its plugged to the pc. I don't know what the **** is happening with this 500 piece of pancake.
well i have finally decided to do a factory reset but after the anticipation and thinking it is a software problem it isn't apparently. Maybe i will just send it to repair and hope that i wait less than 20 days for it to come back. And i hope that they don't figure out the problem and send a new phone but i think it is the battery that is the problem. Anyways the modern technologys are the most incredible thing and the most getting you pissed of one. You pay 500 dollars+ and expect something good and there you go .
So did you do factory reset or not?
Btw, getting phone to repair center is a good decision, they'll see what's wrong.
I have been happy with my G3, only "minor" thing I don't like is the horrible backspeaker (coming from HTC One m7)
Lately my tablet has been turning off and then going into a loop when it restarts. The only thing that seems to get it out of the loop is when I plug in a charger. I am stock all the way. Any help will be approciated.
You could try wiping cache while in Stock recovery, or doing a factory reset and see if that helps, otherwise you might have to trace down to see if a specific app causes this problem

Well factory reset did not help ....
Neither did wiping the cache ....

@uhmump95. I was having similar problems about 6 months ago. I was only able to solve the problem by re-flashing the latest OS. If you are not familiar with this process go here for a good tutorial on how to do it. You can also go here to get the latest stock OS for our 8.4 tablets.
I have since moved on to custom ROMS but the above got me out of the same issue you are experiencing. Good luck with getting it fixed quickly.
I have found a cause.
Mine started getting random reboots the same a few months ago, perhaps one month before the warranty ran out. It stopped after a full reset and I assumed it had been a software issue and I let the warranty period expire :silly:
It has happened again a few times, but I have found why: It only happens when the battery is very low. Somehow the battery sensor is not well calibrated, so it never charges over 90% and instead of shutting down when it gets low it keeps working till it malfunctions.
I don't know how to repair it, though. I haven't rooted it yet and I'd rather not remove the screen to get to the battery for now. Should the problem start being too cumbersome I'll try any of both solutions.
Does anyone know of a less drastic procedure? Thanks.
