So its been a while already since G4 had its premiere. I remember there were few ways/tricks to increase volume of headphones/bluetooth, but basicly never for speaker. Is there some actually working 100% way to increase those volumes ? My device is H815 LG G4 / rooted A MM 6.0
Viper4android
Does this program change values of RX's in mixer paths file ?
If not, it doesnt do the "real" job.
No but it does get everything that you need done. My phone is about 3 times louder than what it used to be. The only thing that it doesn't change is the earpiece speaker. But its got everything you need. If you're rooted and have the kernel set to permissive then you can always try it and see if you like it. If you don't then you can just uninstall it. I liked mine so i moved it into the system.
Here's the app if you decide to try it
Ohhh so thats why it didnt work i guess. Ive just changed enforcing to permissive in my kernel. Was that so important ?
I don't know why its important but it helps
Tried this on my H810, I have Stericson busybox installed, SElinux to permissive, and rooted, but the driver fails to install...

Use this, this should work https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx&hl=de.
If this doesn't help, go to /system/media/etc. Is there a audio_policy.config ? If not, copy this to this place from /system/etc and remove the deepbuffer code lines in both files. Then try again to install the Viper4Android driver.

Ok, last idea: Return the audio_policy.config to stock, delete the one in /system/media/etc. Delete Viper4Android app, then reboot. And then follow this:

Man I m here with you.. I can't get it to work with poweramp either tried all those methods. The funny thing is it works with the stock music player, just not poweramp.
Edit: I tried the method mentioned from the first link that you have posted. This worked for me finally .
Third (manual) method, which might work for other roms and even other phones:
- Using any file explorer (ie: Rootexplorer), go into /system/Priv-app and create a folder called V4A or Viper4Android. Place ViPER4Android_FX_A4.x.apk in this folder. While the folder isn't actually necessary, it's cleaner than just leaving the .apk inside /priv-app/
- Go into /system/media/etc and do a backup of audio_policy.conf
- Open up audio_policy.conf using a text editor, and delete the following code:
Code:
- Reboot
- Go into Viper settings app
- Install required driver
- Go into poweramp -> settings -> audio -> advanced tweaks -> Disable DVT (Direct volume control)
- Reboot

Respectively, before going into /system/media/etc, copy the audio_policy one again from /system/etc.

I used Equalizer FX by devdnua. This app not only worked with the stock audio player, it also worked with Spotify, Pandora and Google Music. It has bass boost and loudness controls and a 5-band equalizer. Once you turn it on it runs in the background and affects any audio coming out of your headphone jack or rear speaker.

I had started a thread asking for help on how to do this. So since its pretty much confirmed it works on most phones even when you didnt realize it was installed Ifigured it was time to give it a proper [How-To].
Disclaimer:I am not responsible if you break, brick, hump, throw against wall or any other action you do to your phone. By using this script you agree anything that happens is your own noobtastic fault. Any attempts at blaming me for anything other than this being fantastic will result in you being pointed and laughed at.
If you are using BACKSIDE/IHO or have already installed the script dont I REPEAT DONT run the script again. Doing so makes multiple instances of the commands and will stop the bootsound from playing. If you run the script more than once you will have to delete somethings to get it to work. SO be warned DO NOT RUN THE SCRIPT IF YOU HAVE ALREADY OR ARE USING BACKSIDEIHO ROM
The ability to play boot sounds is not activated in CM7 based roms. You have to run a script that will enable this function on CM7 based roms. I remember somebody posting this a short while back but it wouldnt work for me. Apparently the sound file I was using was not named properly.
I found a tutorial on CMforums about how to do this. Tested it and everything works great. Several people have tried this on Froyo roms and not have it work. Also it appears on some phones it just wont work at all.
This is what you do.
1. Download this shell script here bootsnd.sh
2. Place it on the root of your SD card & then open Terminal & type the following
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
3. Now by using a file manager program with R/W (Read/Write) go to the /system/bin in your phone & make sure the file has transfered over! It should say BOOTSOUND & have permissions set to rwxrwxrwx! for this I use Root Explorer or you can use File Manager once you have selected R/W
4. Before transferring your sound file over rename it on your pc, android_audio and make sure it is a .mp3 file. Transfer the sound file from your pc to the root of your SDcard. Now move your sound file you want to play when the phone boots to /system/media of your phone & rename it android_audio you will have to be in R/W mode! Typically fifteen seconds is plenty long and just perfect, however anything over 30 seconds will get cut off.
5. Reboot & enjoy your new BOOTSOUND B)
I dont take credit for this and I am just adding the info here, if you wanna give thanks make sure you go here as well & say thanks to Colpophage for his help on this topic - say thanks here

Back out to /system now open build.prop in text editor mode, look for this text.
Code:
ro.config.play.bootsound=1
Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened.
Reboot phone.
Verify no sound is playing.
Now run the script again and reboot.
You should have a boot sound again.

if you're using a froyo rom, it's a simpler and different method to get the boot sound.
you need the .mp3 saved as
/system/sounds/poweron/PowerOn.mp3
that's all.
if it still doesn't work, try re-encoding the mp3, or use a different one. sometimes the system's picky about which mp3s it'll use for a bootsound.

If you are using a CM7 based ROM, here's a flashable zip file you can use:
Activate-Bootsound-signed.zip
Boot into recovery and flash after flashing any CM7 based ROM.
Note- If you have made changes to the files mentioned by eollie, you must remove your changes before flashing this.
Thanks Jerry. out of curiosity, is there a size or time limit for these boot sounds? i was thinking of adding the very opening of "Zoo Station" by U2.
I dunno about cm7, but I put a 40 second mp3 as the bootsound in froyo, and it played all the way past when the sd card mounted on the home screen.
The most I've been able to play is about 90 seconds, larger files didn't even play for me.

Remember some Rom cookers have supercharged the boot process. So the best thing to do is use a timer and time how long you have from the flash from the second bootanimation to when the phone does the soft vibirate to let you know its loaded.
is there any way to use a sound for when the phone powers off also
it is not working for me...i did nothing eollies thread and i only flash Activate_Bootsound-signed.zip this on that you have given, but steel boot sound is not working.I am currently on cm7 6.5.8.Please tell me what to do to enable boot sound???

Please remove the paid app from your post. It is against the rules. Plus there is a zip created by jerryscript that does this.
Another thing you edited the post for better wording yet instead of typing out into you abbreviated it. Also used the letter u instead of typing you. /faceplam Your post is horribly written using leet speak and text speak because you either cant spell or are too lazy to use proper words.

Hi,
Tried all your suggestions.
Regenerated bootsound/edited init.local.rc/build.prop
But still no sound - using android_audio.mp3 - which is valid !!!
Was able change bootanimation.
Something I'm missing or just not possible in this rom ?
Thanks or any advise
I couldn't get the script to work for me either, but the manual method did work for me. The file I had was an ogg, so I edited that part of the bootsound file and the off plays.

I love this phone.
But, I can't turn the camera shutter sound off.
I have seen the following solutions:
Edit build.prop and set the camera sound value to =0
or
Use Camera Zoom Fx app and delete the camera_click.ogg file
I would prefer to do the former.
I guess I need to root my phone to do this - or is there an easier way?
I have never rooted a phone and I don't have a need for a rooted phone other than to be able to r/w the build.prop file.
Can I root it, edit the build.prop file, and then unroot it and have the build.prop file keep my edits?
Does anyone have any straightforward steps on how to root and then unroot this phone?
Thank you for any guidance you can provide!

I believe that you can unroot directly from the superuser app that is sideloaded via this rooting method. Once unrooted, the changes that you made should remain. If they don't for some reason, all you have to do is keep root and just deny apps that request superuser access.

You would need to root it to edit the build.prop, as it is located in system. That other way to unroot might work to keep it but if you use lgnpst it would replace all the system files, giving you your stock build.prop again. If you wanted to delete the ogg file you would still need to root for that. At least on my phone the camera_click.ogg file is located it /system/media/audio/ui directory. You could just move it somewhere else as a backup. But....being rooted is awesome

I think (once rooted) is safest to just overwrite the click sound(s) with a silent one. Then it plays but you can't hear it. works for me and any camera proggy that defaults to the system will use it too.

On the LGoG it's in: system > media > audio > ui > camera_click.ogg
It may be in a different location on other devices.
You have to be rooted in order to write over system files, but I just renamed the original to camera_click.ogg.bak and then copied the silent version in with the same original name "camera_click.ogg" less the quotes and making sure it's an ogg file too, so there is no system playback error.
Hope that helps.

I assume it's the LGoG you are attempting this with?
Mine is the first generation (incase there are other generations.)
You'll also want to verify it was overwritten. I'd try playing the sound once you do... just to be sure it's the write file.
Otherwise, you might search your device for the sound and see if it's listed elsewhere.
In case the program you are using does not have "system" write capability, I might suggest ES File Explorer.
Either way, you will have to access the settings to turn on the ability to "write" to root in order to "overwrite the file".
Additionally (if the file is changing back - or so it would seem)... be sure to check the permissions it has before you overwrite it and when you do (assuming success).. make sure to set the "new" files permissions to the same as what the old file had. Else, the OS might overwrite the "new" file with a tared (backed up) version... knowing that it's been screwed with.
It's kind of a form of protection from corruption (computer sees potentially bad file and replaces it with good file.)
Good luck and happy fourth!
Phantom camera_click.ogg
I beg your forgiveness for my ignorance, but I've never done much tweaking to file systems after a rooting... but my gf has the Sprint Optimus G and can't find the camera_click.ogg file at all using Astro File Explorer. Does anyone know any other location it may be at? As a computer technician, I'm embarrassed at my lack of know-how around the Droid OS!
Not sure if you looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051384
Read the op then go to page 11 and you see there are 2 fields that need to be changed.
After you do that and reboot as it states, you will have sound when you have your volume on and no camera sound when you turn the volume down to vibrate or silent. At least that is how it is for me. I prefer it that way.
Hope this helps

Since we now have the LK8 leak, and no custom Roms, yet. I've seen the "how do I disable camera sounds" question asked a few times.
I'm sure your favorite developer will incorporate this feature, like they have in the past, as they update to the new base. This is mainly for us impatient noobs
You must be rooted. Using a root explorer, navigate to /system. Select build.prop. Scroll until you find this line:
# Camera sound play enforced for SPR
ro.camera.sound.forced=1
and change to:
# Camera sound play enforced for SPR
ro.camera.sound.forced=0
If you also want to be able to toggle the sound in the camera menu, navigate to /system/csc, and select feature.xml.
Scroll to the "Camera" section, and change this line from this:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
to this:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Save, exit,
Make sure permissions are set to: rw-r--r--,
and reboot.

Make sure ES has root permission, and also make sure you are saving the updated file, before exiting. I'll try to do it from ES File explorer, in a little while, to see if I can make it work.
Okay, I was able to follow this procedure, with ES File Explorer, also. I just made sure all of the "root" boxes were checked in settings.

Or does someone have a solution to get an working equalizer on the phone?

So I tried to get the beats audio, which I was used to, and loved with the sennheiser urbanite, from my HTC one x+ on to the HTC 820. This worked (altought it can't be turned off).
Sound is good now but once every reboot the OS tells me " MusicFX(the first apk) has stopped working". I can't seem to find any app through play store, app manager, file manager, that carries this name.
I will make a new post of this problem.

Try this, download aroma file manager zip file.
save apk files in sd card
now flash aroma zip file in recovery mode and it'll open a file manager. now just locate and copy the apk file from your sd card and paste it to system apps folder in root dictionary. Now reboot your phone and check app list. :fingers-crossed:

There is no need for that anymore. I got the EQ I was used to installed on the HTC 820. But thank you for willing to help me out!
But I ran into a problem linked to my failed attempt of installing Musicfx.
It is described over here :

I tried that to. But when i came at a step that said, "open viper and it will ask for update, run update" it just said it could not find one. Then it said the phone doesn't have BUSYBOX yet(wich it had).
Anyway,I had connection and followed all the steps of the guide(link below).
But when the step using busy box came up, pressing the instal button in the app made the phone reboot instantly.
Could this have anything to do with s-on/off?

Wow,
I am new in the rooting/android scene so what you just did made it a lot easier for me. It works perfect and is so easy to flash. And after 2 hours of listening music no glitches.
Thank you! And if I could give 2 likes for one post I would do it.
Which eraphone u using ?
If you are like me and like your music loud then you are also pretty disappointed with the low headphone volume of this model phone. V4A and Atmos improve things a little but even with them the volume is lower than most phones are factory stock. Alsa Mixer works to increase the gain from 12 to 15 (max) but only temporarily so I spent this morning finding a way to manually edit the mixer paths for a more permanent solution, which after searching all over had yet to find. Im no developer so it took me a while to find what I was looking for and was surprised to find out there's no less than 8 files that reference headphone L and R gain but I gave it a shot and now the volume is much better than it was.
I have attached a zip with the edited mixer_paths and mixer_volumes to save the time and trouble of going through all the files individually as I did. Just goto /product/etc/audio/hissc/ and copy/backup each of the following files to somewhere on your internal storage or SD card :
mixer_paths_BERLIN.xml
mixer_paths_hi6250.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_ce.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_cmcciot.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_gcf.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_normal.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_unicomiot.xml
mixer_volumes_BERLIN_hi6250_normal.xml
Once you have made copies then move the files from the zip to this directory and change the permissions to rw-r-r with a file manager of your choice. Restart your phone and enjoy your music 20% louder all the time.
*This is only for headphone volume.
**I don't know if other builds are different but it works on B360
Nice, I'll test this as I'll have time! Sometimes i just think: "if only it was louder..." so i hope to gain some after this one

Please elaborate ,bro all messed up tells me nothing. What exactly is wrong? Are your permissions set correctly for the 8 files once you copied them to the correct location? If the instructions were followed it should work fine.
The only things that have been changed in all files are the values of HISSC_SMT_HSL_GAIN and HISSC_SMT_HSR_GAIN from 12 to 15, just like alsamixer does however this is permanent. In both of the mixer_paths files the strings are found only once, in the 6 mixer_volumes files I only changed the values under media-headphones and media-headset.
Nice, i will try
Can you explain me "and change the permissions to match those you just renamed, rw-r-r."
Thanks!

Always have a backup of original files before copying pasting anything. OP has shared the file though but it may not be the case all the time so always have a backup plan

You need to use a root explorer (like MiX, Total Commander, ecc.) to reach the folder listed in OP (/product/etc/audio...) and then modify the permissions of the new copied files to allow them to correctly works (long press on a file and then click on modify permissions -> flag the permissions as stated by OP, there will be dedicated boxes to click on)

Thanks for the explanation. Just a heads up to anyne using ES file manager the permissions are under properties when you long press on a file.
I followed instructions but after copy and pasting the files when i went to permissions it says they are already at rw-r-r Does that sound normal? I used Root Explorer Classic from JRummy Apps. I tried first with X-Plore but it gave me an error that I am not allowed to change the permissions or something like that. But regardless they all show it as rw-r-r before I did any modifications whatsoever
I rebooted but volume does not seem very much different. Its still not loud enough for me, when I get drunk I like to hear the music REALLY loud for head-banging
This really helped me out man, thanks!
How do I increase the volume of the main speakers?
