Hey guys, I'm pretty much a noob at rooting phones so that's why I purchased the Nexus 5x, heard it was very easy to root, and I managed to do it in a single night. Worked great, all my apps were working wonderfully up until this morning. It's difficult to explain, because according to all rootchecker apps I still have root access, and all my applications say they also have root access... however they just do not function, at all. For example I have an autotouch application, which worked fine up until about 3 hours ago. And it's not just that app, none of my applications which require root function at all, even though they say they have root access. I am not very savy with this kind of stuff and would appreciate any help you guys can give. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I doing something wrong?
P.S. Not sure if this is important or not or if this is even what prompted the problems, but my phones battery died, and everything stopped working when I charged and rebooted. Thanks in advance for any help, I could really use it.

Ok, here is a new one for me. I have an incredible, obviously, updated with 2.2 from over the air. I rooted with unrevoked 3.something. I have installed a few new things, better cut, handcent sms, better keyboard, wifi tether. Since all of these installs and the rooting, i began to have this problem (i have other software but it was fine before this), i have this problem where my programs believe it is a fresh first time launch every time i start them. Things like c:geo, trillian, and others go blank and have me reenter passwords and info. I don't know how to start trouble shooting this without deleting a ton of stuff, obviously undesirable. Can you offer any suggestions? Could this be a bad root problem? Help is appreciated..
I also removed some bloatware with apb. moved it to my sd card.
What all did you remove with adb?
Ok, I've looked through the web, and can't seem to find anything to solve my problem. I've got CyanogenMod 7 on my Wildfire, and decided to reverse tether it via USB cos I'm 15 and don't really have the money for a data plan (yes, even Three's All-In-One 15). I got the app for it off the market, and after following the guide for it, it worked. Once. After that, it's only very rarely managed to get past the "USB tethered" or the "Desired IP part. I've tried loads of stuff that, in the end, hasn't worked. Would be happy if all you guys could help
PS: Yes, I do have the other reverse-tethering usb-tunnel thing as well. However, a lot of apps think they have no connection when it's used. Which is why I want to use this app.
Hi everyone,
First of all, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for being such a great resource in the past. I have performed many roots via guides on here.
My real question, I was super excited to get KitKat and immediately accepted the AT&T Software Update...2 hours later I realized that my Portable WIFI Hotspot app was no longer functional due to the upgraded OS. I figured a factory reset would be fine since it wasnt KitKat when it first came to me, sadly it wasn't.
Does anyone have any advice for a work around? I have unlimited data with AT&T right now and do not wish to sacrafice that for hotspot services but it is a very convienent feature to have when I am on the go. I've thought of rooting, reverting (which didn't work), and search hours in the app store testing different ones.
Any and all advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance guys and gals!:good:
There is no way around it without rooting, until they create another app, unless there is one that I don't know about. You need a modified framework file in the system directory, which cannot be accessed without root permissions. I'm guessing that you were using foxfi, like so many others around here. I might be wrong.
And next time, please do some research before accepting these toys, I mean OTAs. (I keep calling them toys, because the only reason I see why we so quickly rush to these OTAs is to play with them.) There is plenty of useful information here at XDA for you. Don't just look to fix your problem and then run. Some of the purposes of OTAs are to prevent rooting and block tethering (Foxfi has been broken a couple of times). When you do some more reading, you will see all of the problems that many are having around here after jumping to play with this new toy, I mean update, without waiting or doing enough research.
Personally, one of the best things I have done with my phone is not accepting this latest OTA.
ya, I completely regret not doing my usual research. I thought I read somewhere that you cant root this current version as well. If you can root, if someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it, if not I can take a look around after work
The app was Portable WIFI Hotspot
Here you go if you need to root. It's in the general section.

Hello everyone.
I have been using my phone for almost 3 years with no issues but recently found out it has the insane chip. After that my phone started going mental with all the reboots and freezes but the worst of all is that suddenly it changed into ''modified'' even though I never rooted. And at the same time with that I got a ''no service''.
I can not call or message or use 4g, only wifi works.
I tried manually entering APN, didnt work
I tried bunch of video instructions on youtube, didnt work
I have no experience in things like rooting or flashing or roms but I went ahead and tried rooting with some automatic program called
Kingoroot. Then I used bunch of different programs like gs2 repair and busybox to see if its about my imei being blocked or something.
Still didnt work.
Weird thing is, my sim card works on other phones but other sim cards still dont work on my phone so I'm guessing its completely on the phone.
Are there any solutions to this because I dont want to buy a new phone while this one is still working? Also since I have no idea about what roms are and all, would be awesome if you told it more detailed.
Thanks in advance
Bump
Just rolled back to no root but weird thing is, even after unrooting it still shows modified.
Some of the solutions I've heard require me to do some software update and delete cache but cant because of the modified state.
Anyway I'm really looking for some solutions
I deleted some texts from my phone by accident and it is of great importance for me to retrieve them. I've heard the way that Samsung phones work is that even though the texts are deleted, they are stored on the phone in a dormant memory and are only "recorded" over once the phone runs out of other free memory. My phone is no where near that threshold of running out of memory, so I know they are still there. So I tried to root the phone myself using some site I think was called (Kong or konga or something like that) and it did not work. Does anyone out there know how to help me? I really really need those messages back.
Thank you.

If you need to Root (and Root alone won't help you) then follow my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...uide-links-files-update-root-restore-t3366862
response..
I know rooting alone won't help me, but its a starting point. And I paid for some software that should work if the phone is properly rooted.... However, if you have another way to retrieve those messages, I'm all ears! Any help is greatly appreciated, trust me. Lets put it this way... If someone can help me get these messages back, I'd have no problem sending them a gift as a thank you. (thats how important this is to me)

Did you try the application that I linked in the first line? You install on your PC and plug in your phone. There is a free-to-try version so that you can test without risk.
Post back here what happens.
This is so frustrating.
So this is the app I tried first before I even came to this forum. I even paid for the full version and it won't work. I could be a complete idiot, but I literally tried it for 3 hours one night, and then another 3 hours on another night. I'm literally having ZERO luck when it comes to this issue. I did this program, it tells me it failed to root the phone. Then I download another program to root the phone and then that program tells me that "root failed". So I feel like I'm f'ed no matter what I do. Advice???
