Trying to understand LG version naming - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think I have figured out that 10 is for L and 20 is for M.
What do the letters mean, does it mean that 10N is newer then 10G?
I just wanted to load the latest version on L for my phone which is H812.
Looking at this page confuses the crap out of me.
http://devtester.ro/projects/lg-firmwares/country.php?country=Canada

Well, in my case (I got an AT&T G4; H810) it's exactly as you say: the last version before Marshmallow was 10o, then it jumped to a 20 nomenclature (in Marshmallow, 20n build version)
In your case, it's a canadian variant. Maybe you should check the carrier or whoever distributes the phone's website and check which was the last version before Marshmallow; it should be somewhere..

Did someone say my name?

I know about this thread. It does not really answer my question though. I also don't seem to be able to find stock kdz of H812 100 which I think should be latest L build.

The letters might as well literally mean nothing to you because they are all basically the exact same thing. This whole "Oh I need the newest latest update on my phone" bs is completely ludicrous. Just use the updates that are there. If you can't find it, it's because no one had it, or no one had the decency to give it to me to upload to the OP. Not that they make a lick of difference anyways because they are all the exact same with the exception to small security patches and improvements that you wont even notice.
Good luck.

No i believe the OP is in the right section. I believe Sprint's basebands start with VPL...Tmobile's start with UV. AT&T with UC...ect...
To the OP, that might actually be a new baseband/radio/firmware. Would be awesome if you could pull it :good:

Yes, 100% positive I have SGH-T999 - 16GB - Pebble Blue (T-Mobile) it was sealed when I got it and have been using it on T-Mobile for the passed two days.
I connected the phone to Samsung Kies to see if this is the latest firmware and this is the message I got.
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.
Current firmware version: PDA:LG1 / PHONE:LG1 / CSC:LG1 (TMB).
IS there any useful info here?

Hope ur not thinking "DUH" after reading, but have you seen the Snapdragon Toolkit by mskip in the T-Mo Android Development section? It's really a great tool, and one of the things it does rather quickly and easily is backup your firmware as a NANDROID backup image or it also gives you the choice to create a .tar file for ODIN to restore it. Just thought if you didn't already know about it or know how without it, it might help ya with pulling this new firmware. Of course, you'd have to talk to him (and/or teach him) about doing it - that or find someone else who's got it! I can't tonight, but tomorrow noon-ish, I'll see if I can find the updated firmware myself! If you haven't found it by then, I'd be happy to pull it for ya if I find it! Hope that helps! Have a good night!
Just bought my s3 saturday, I had that same software. Running what was clUned to be newest on here now, but baseband still shows t999UVLG1

For those of you that have this "new" software version, does your universal search work?
Long press the capacitive menu button, and enter a search term to see if it searched your whole phone or just the web (if it searches your whole phone, things like contacts and media will come up - if it just searches the web, only Google web based results will show)
FYI: When I first got my phone with UVALEM (ordered first day), pretty much the first thing I did was install Kies to sync with Outlook. At that time, it read the firmware version correctly, and said that it was not compatible with firmware upgrades. That changed about two days later.
Would like an answer to the universal search question.

click on mobile phone and type 999 in the search box. it lists both UVALEM,and UVALG1 side by side where as if UVALG1 was the latest it wouldn't list UVALEM anymore.

[Q] Different Software Build Number on My VZW One?

Hey All,
Long-time lurker, first-time post. Previous smartphones were Nexus devices (Sprint Nexus S, VZW Galaxy Nexus), so I never really needed to post. Everything was all there to tinker with.
I got the VZW HTC One a day or two after the HTCDev unlock was blocked, so I am stock, locked, and non-rooted. Quite an adjustment going from crack-flasher to locked-down, but I digress.
I was browsing around and noticed that an OTA was being pushed out, updating from 1.10.605.8 to 1.10.605.10. Having seen some others screwed by OTA updates, I know better than to even try to check for one, let alone accept installation. That, however, is where it gets interesting for me. I noticed that I am running 1.10.605.2. I haven't seen anything via Google searches, nor have I seen anything else on XDA regarding this build version.
So, on to my question: Can I be of any help with this build version that I can find no other mention of elsewhere? I work all day and have a wife and son at home, so I'm not on much, but I do check the forums in the mornings and evenings. If there's anything I can provide from my device that could be of help to someone, let me know, and I will do everything I can to provide it.
If you can, screenshot the software number in the About Device section.

So now the question is, can this be useful in the exploit/unlock hunt, or is it just a fluke with currently unknown repercussions? Since my HBOOT is the same, I'm leaning towards fluke.
Anyway, if anyone wants me to try anything, let me know, and I will try as time permits.

Unfortunately I don't think it is useful unless it had a lower hboot or something, we can't downgrade, and whatever exploit that may have been in that software may have been patched before release and took longer to release who knows.

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered what the gs3 q&a section looked like. On any given day you would see the same question get answered about five times.
Nothing yet.
Items not yet working:
Camera
Bluetooth
LED Light stays on initially until connected to a charger.
Lockscreen will sometimes momentarily freeze on unlock.
With Lollipop around the corner I don't really see these things getting fixed just yet. I would put money on the fact that the devs are going to be more focused on getting a functional Lollipop ROM before spending a ton of time on working out these nagging issues.

Could we use the Linux kernel bug CVE-2015-1805 to root our LG G4's running MM?

I don't know how this will be able to help our situation with locked bootloaders, but I am sure the intelligent among us could somehow use this.
I suppose this would be possible. But I'm pretty sure LG will close that with the next security update (if they can be bothered to issue one, we're still waiting for the February update.)

Yes, that is true. But the choice of updating is in the hands of the user. I am sure a lot of people want to use MM on their G4 but cannot let go of root. This can/may provide a middle-ground for these people. They can have root and MM, albeit an outdated version, which in my opinion is better than nothing.

I was foolish enough to update to MM, I've since stopped using the device completely except for answering calls, and I am really sad about that. With the leather back, curved screen, replaceable battery, and back buttons this is one of my top phones. Yes, I know I can downgrade, but I don't want to be bothered by that. I like the new MM features enough to not downgrade, yet I hate not having root, the ad-blocking, the tweaking of my phone to my liking. I've already decided on not buying any phones except nexus. But sadly I am stuck with this phone till the next nexus comes out.
Hello,
I was wondering if someone with the right skills could do it.
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-1805
In the bug's description it's said that Linux kernels before 3.16 are affected by this, I'm using 20e which runs 3.10.84 so theoretically exploitable.
I work with software development but web/mainframe mainly, anyone with a few hax0r skills willing to work on this?
I would certainly donate for this cause.

Warning: New Pie update cannot be rolled back - False alarm!

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a heads-up that the newly released Pie update for Korea cannot be rolled back. I would be surprised if it doesn't apply to other variants as well.
I saw it in this post by @trouble. in the H930 Pie thread: The update notes include the following:
If you run the update, the security policy will be strengthened and you will not be able to downgrade to the previous version of the software.
So they went ARB1 after all. No more rolling back after this update. I bet that's why they pulled the original Pie update: It always seemed too good to be true that they would leave that barn door open, both because this is the second major OS update and because it's what makes all V30s rootable.
In short: If you care about root, do NOT update with LG Bridge or OTA or the latest KDZ when it comes out. Only update with TWRP flashable zips (which I assume will be harder to make now).
If it was complaints from US carriers that caused the original Pie to be pulled, I bet this was it, not lags or other bugs: No way they would accept another ARB0 update of this phone. In their mind, it's time to kill it and sell some new phones.
Edit: This also has a few other consequences: Once the Pie update is out for your model, you can no longer send it in to LG for repair, as you will get it back with Pie. The same if you replace it through your carrier. And if you buy a V30 on eBay, you want to make sure it doesn't have Pie on it, if you want to be able to root.
So NOW would be the time to buy that V30 for anybody who's been thinking about it!
It seems we may be in luck after all: According to @tech_infinity's post here release notes for the previous update said the same thing, even though the update was actually ARB0.
So fingers crossed. I apologize for crying wolf if it turns out there is none. We'll see when the update actually comes out. I would still say be careful until it's been confirmed. I will be myself.

Yeah let's wait and see. If it turns out to be true, then it's a good warning. If it turns out not to be true, you can always edit the thread title.
New owners need to be careful anyway and not just update to most recent firmware, before finding out how to root their phone.
I've seen that so many times over the years -- people get a new phone, IMMEDIATELY update to most recent firmware, THEN come XDA ask how to root their phone. With ARB now incremented, they can't do it. Whereas if they had stayed on the firmware their phone came with, it would have been easy. THEN, update.

Thank you. I agree. Most people don't don't pay attention to ARB and don't realize it's a hard wall once you cross it (fuses blown): Not something we can just work around with a little software tweak.
