Hi everyone I am the biggest fool in the world. Today I installed one app thinking that it is a game. Unfortunatelying it turned out it is a virus which installs milo ons of apps and spams with adds no matter what I am doing with my phone. I have tried to factory reset my phone but it is still there, then tried to wipe cash and wipe all user data from the recovery but it is still here.. I've tried to use my phone without Google account but the virus is there. It is in my system and I don't know what to do. Anti virus software can't find it and I don't know what to do.
My phone is note 2 it runs 4.4.2 kit kat stock Rom without root access. Thanks in advance
Reinstall stock using odin and download mode
And btw that virus have already rooted your phone without your permission and injected itself into your system directory, so no matter what you do with your current rom through wiping will be useless!
Good luck!
Inatall TWRP and wipe everything with rm-rf ON. Flash Stock or any other ROM after, it should be gone.
Hi again, i decided to root my phone and install custom rom. I've chosen rom "one and only V3" i've rooted my phone and wiped everything cache, system, data, preload, dalvik cache, factory reset, partition. Then i installed the rom, everything was fine but phone stucks on bootscreen at the Samsung logo and cannot start, i've done all the procedure again but nothing changes. Then downloaded other ROM but now i can't connect my phone to my computer when i plug the cable and click on Mounts and storage then on mount USB storage, nothing happens i can't see my phone and i can't upload another rom.. Thanks in advance.
P.S. The author of the ROM has given this installation information:
Installation Instructions for v1.0 & v3.0:
USE TWRP RECOVERY
First Nandroid your current ROM.
1. Download ROM
2. Verify MD5
3. Place the ROM in your internal/external sd card
4. Reboot to Recovery
5. Wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, data, preload if applicable,
6. Flash the ROM
7. Reboot and Setup Device.
Note: With root file manager, go to /data/media/0 and delete folders that begin with the name "vrtheme
I am using CWM recovery v6 and i don't know what "First Nandroid your current ROM." and "2. Verify MD5 " means..
1- First Nandroid your current ROM = make a backup of your rom that you are using
2- Verify MD5 = its a unique number and litter for Verify that you are use the same file that the maker uploaded

I rooted my EVO running stock Froyo last night with Unrevoked 3.2. It worked flawlessly and phone is experiencing no problems. Now i'm all excited to run the custom ROMS but kind of confused as how the flashing of the custom ROMS works. Do I have to wipe out the entire contents of my SD card everytime I want to run a custom ROM? I only have the 8gig card. I was under the assumption that I could save my current stock setup and download and flash into a custom ROM and revert back to the stock rooted setup when I wanted. I downloaded a program called ROM Manager v2.0.2.6 but unsure how to use it. Looks like a 1-click solution to loading custom ROMs but I dont want it to wipe out my phone. Can someone please help me to understand the steps to take to load a custom ROM? I was thinking of trying out Fresh or something similar which still has HTC Sense in it. Feel free to message me on here. Thanks in advance.....

No.
I'm not sure about using ROM manager, perhaps somebody else can help with that.
The process is simple...
Connect your EVO to your PC and enable disk drive.
Transfer the ROM zip to the root of your sd card (if your computer mounts as drive F: ... just transfer to F:\)
Eject/disable disk drive
Boot into recovery (turn device off, hold volume down and power button at same time until you see your hboot screen, choose recovery)
Perform a nandroid backup (just in case you need to get back to where you are)
Perform wipe
Use recovery option to flash zip from sdcard
Select the ROM zip
Those are the quick and dirty instructions, I'm a newb with this stuff, I've had my EVO for 2 weeks and I've not had a single problem. I had CM6 on it and I just flashed Fresh 3.2 to test that out and test 4G this weekend.
I would advise doing a Nandroid backup of your current setup. Then go the development section and choose a rom that suits you. Each developer normally will tell you how to go about flashing there rom.
Basically you would need to go into recovery and choose the flash from zip...
ok first no you dont have to erase your sd card every time you flash a rom.
you should however do a factory dalvik and cache wipe. this will erase all settings yuo previously had and will uninstall all apps.
to combat this you can use programs like Titanium back up to back up all your apps. (system settings are not recommended to be blind restored as they can cause issues between roms)
You can also make a back up of your stock rom you have now to do this through rom manager simply make sure you have the latest clockwork recovery flashed (very top button in rom manager) then go down to where it says back up rom click it and it will do the rest. This is recommended before you do anything.
once you ahve your nand back up (the back up through rom manager) and have your apps backed up through something like titanium back up. place the rom yuo want to flash on your sd card and follow these steps.
boot into recovery (either through rom manager or by powering down the phone and then holding vol down and power until it launches the boot loader and select recovery)
select wipe data/factory reset
select wipe cache partition
Select install zip from sd
select choose zip rom sd
scroll to and select the rom you moved to the sd card
select yes and let it do its thing once done select reboot phone.
It will take a little extra time the first time it boots up vs normal jsut let it sit and it should after a while boot into the custom rom.

Thanks everyone! I'm running titanium backup at the moment and backing up the entire system. I had ROM Manager do a backup of my stock ROM last night, so I think i'm good. ROM Manager also downloads ROMs for me and sets them to load at boot up. Most of the ROMS suggest doing a full wipe?
a full wipe jsut means factory/data cache and dalvik which is basically wiping all info on the phone itself. the sd card however doesnt need to be wiped
i installed baked1.7 and all loaded smoothly. I'm assuming I now have to re-download titanium backup to restore my apps and all?
Also, i'm finding no info on how to load the wimax update and the htc radio update files and the custom kernels for baked1.7

Load those updates onto the root of your sd card. Get quickboot from the market to easily boot into recovery mode. Or you can power off, then hold vol down while powering on to get into bootloader and select recovery. Flash zip file and select those files. Reboot and your wimax/radio should be updated.
Finally looking to try a non-stock ROM. Heard good things about latest CM10 M2.
Current setup: Stock recovery, stock ROM, rooted, I747UCLEM
Steps already done:
1. do a full imei backup
Steps I'm planning on taking this evening:
1. download Rom Manager
2. use Rom Manager to flash CWM Recovery (should I do normal or CWM Touch?)
3. do a nandroid backup (never done one before)
3. download zip of CM10 M2 rom and google apps (where do i put them on the int or ext SD?)
4. boot into recovery, do factory reset/wipe, wipe cache
5. install CM10 from zip
6. ?? do i install google apps as well now, or do i wait til after CM10 is done/rebooted and then go into recovery again?
6. sign into google to get contacts/gmail/etc synced back up
7. anything else? i'm not going to restore from TB, I want to start fresh.

2 up to you i prefer twrp you can get it from goomanager in the play store
3 easy to do in recovery best insurence you can have for a bad flash
3. internal is best
6 i have done it both ways with no problem
7 nope looks like you got the steps right but you do know m2 is a experamental build
#2 do normal unless you want to buy touch, don't think it's free
#3 once in recovery choose backup, it will take a bit, let it finish
#4 put it on your internal and this should be done before you boot into clockworkmod recovery
#5 steps in recovery are: 1 install zip from sd card
2 choose zip from sd card
3 navigate to the zip,
4 install
#6 you can install them right after the ROM
#7 reboot when finished, let phone fully boot THEN
#8 reboot phone, helps settle things a little (you just made a big change to your system lol)
#9 sign into google and let things sync
Troubleshooting, gapps may force close on you a couple times, don't worry, if it happens continuously then reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reflash just the gapps (they are finicky) If you experience multiple force closes and stuff not working right, boot into recovery and under advanced find fix permissions and let that run.
If all else fails then boot into recovery and do it all over again, coming from stock to aosp your MAY have to flash a couple times to avoid errors while flashing a completely different os(usually not an issue but you never know)
Good Luck
edit--->dang I'm slow tonight lmao
Thanks to both of you! Very much appreciate the detailed responses.

So my nandroid backup just finished, and the folder is only 20MB in size. Is that normal? I guess I expected it to be bigger. I have about 70 apps, all installed to their default location, no music, no photos, no videos, on rooted stock AT&T. I did the backup by booting into CWM Touch Recovery from Rom Manager, going to 'backup and restore', 'backup to external SD card'. Took about 20 minutes to complete, it said completed successfully, and I hit 'go back', then 'reboot system now'. When I moved the backup folder to my pc and checked the size, it only shows as 6 files are 20.9mb.
Files are as follows:
boot.img 10,240kb
cache.ext4.dup 1kb
data.ext4.dup 760kb
nandroid.md5 1kb
recovery.img 10,240kb
system.ext4.dup 228kb
Thanks!
Whoops. Figured it out. The whole blob folder is part of it too. Sorry
I am not a total noob to this, as I used to root/ROM the OG Nook Color to death, but I have a few questions on what to do when going from CM 10.1 M1 to the newest M2.
On the Nook, I could put files onto the SD card for flashing after I wiped the device in order to install a new ROM. However, on the Nexus there is no such option. I downloaded goo manager and got the latest GAPPS and M2 zip, but if I wipe the device prior to flashing the latest M2, won't these be wiped also? I guess I'm asking what is the best solution for updating ROMS since I don't have the benefit of loading files to an external SD card.
Along the same lines, I also made a NAND backup of the current ROM and a titanium backup of the apps+data. All of these files reside on the phone itself, so should I move them to the computer first, wipe the device then load them back on for flashing?
Thanks a ton.

There is no such need mate! When you root your phone, you get "an image of your internal memory" - forgot the word for it xD
So, when you do a "wipe" in recovery (TWRP or CWM) you do a factory reset - wipe system(on twrp) - wipe cache - wipe dalvik - and it just delets the current ROM you have, all your files remain on the internal memory, togeather with the titanium backup - zip files you just flashed and so on ... Hope you understand what I meant
Wow, I didn't know that it left files after doing a factory wipe in TWRP. So you're saying I can wipe system, cache, and dalvik cache, but my m2 zip, Gapps zip, nandroid backup zip and titanium backup files will still be there?
What about my wifi and bluetooth settings? do I need to do those over again or are they "saved" somewhere

If they are synced with your google account, they will restore back!
When wiping - do cache - dalvik cache- factory reset - system ... DON'T wipe anything else, especially internal storage! THAT will wipe everything off ...
I don't know how to check if they are synced. I know I have contacts calendar, etc synced. How can I tell if wifi settings and bluetooth are synced?
Go to backup & reset in settings and check there!
ok, thank you! it is checked, so I guess i'm good to go.
I will wipe "SYSTEM" in TWRP - which wipes the ROM only. I will not do a factory reset in twrp.
Doom, you've been a ton of help!
christ, i tried to install m2 and in says "FAILED"
**** **** ****! I am screwed. why did the flash of the latest m2 fail?
Stuck on Google splash screen
I am re downloading the latest M2 from get.cm to my PC. I guess I can reboot into recovery and try to get the zip onto the phone.
restoring from Nand backup now. UGH. what went wrong with the goomanager m2.zip??

That's what I'm guessing. now my PC won't recognize the nexus...as if the device drivers won't work on my PC. ugh.
after the restore, i'll see if I can get my PC to recognize the device when I plug it in. This is odd.
I ALWAYS download this via PC - then send 'em on my GNexus and then flash aterwards ...
Thanks doom, I am restored to my old M1 rom, but my PC is not recognizing the device, so I can't move the downloaded m2 zip to it just yet. I've got to figure out what is going on with device recognition before trying this again.
My Nexus recognizes that it is connected to a PC as a USB device and I can hear the bleep on my PC that it is connected, but I cannot see the device in windows explorer.Consequently, I cannot move the zip to the device if I cannot "see" it.
Do you get the icon in your comp's status bar that it's connected? Android debugging enabled in settings?
Its actually working now. I launched nexus root toolkit to recheck the drivers and now it magically appears in windows explorer...go figure.
should I also install the latest GAPPS after flashing M2? I was using late 2012 Gapps, but now there is one from 3/1/2013 or will that screw up something?
I don't really know ... Didn't try those out! Neither did I try M2 .. xD
Thanks doom! Flashed the M2 zip and newest 3/1/13 Gapps. No need to set up the phone all over again! I am now on M2 (4.2.2).
I know I saw this process in a recent thread but I've misplaced it. If anyone can point me to it, I would be grateful.
I want to clean flash CM 13 on my OP3.
From what I remember, I'm supposed to store the CM 13 zip file and gapps file in the SD Card folder. Is that truly correct? The OP3 doesn't have an SD Card though I did find a folder.
If I do a factory reset and wipe everything, won't that folder also get wiped? Then how would I install the ROM from the phone?
Sorry, I know this is a straightforward process for many of you, and dirty flashing is easy. But I think a clean flash is better and I'd rather not guess and end up with a bricked phone I have to fuss with.
Again, I know this exact process is in a thread somewhere but I can't find it.
the phone storage is /sdcard/
u can use something like ES File Explorer and create a folder called CM13 or whatever u want
u do have ur bootloader unlocked and twrp installed, correct?
yes u will just the get cm zip file and put it in a folder (ex. /sdcard/CM13/)
i put the gapps in the same folder
create a nandroid backup
wipe/advance wipe - wipe caches/data/system !!!!Do NOT WIPE - INTERNAL STORAGE OR OTG!!!
then flash cm zip and gapps
Hi, thank you. Yes, bootloader unlocked, twrp installed and I've done it in the past on a different phone but couldn't sort out clean flashing from dirty flashing. I've done it correctly in the past, and it's also gone very wrong for me. I think I mistakenly wiped internal storage once and that was a disaster.
Somewhere I've also read about a factory reset through trwp.
I don't need to do that, or wiping caches/data/system is the same thing?

If you wipe internal storage, you will lose the zips for your ROM and GAPPS. You can connect your device and have it recognized on your PC from within TWRP if you do accidentally wipe your internal storage.
Factory reset doesn't wipe the system partition as that would remove your OS. Most Roms will wipe your system partition before it installs itself so generally you don't have to wipe the system partition manually, but it's good practice.
Clean flash = wipe dalvik, cache, data; then install ROM (which will wipe system before it installs, or manually wipe system before the ROM install for good measure).
Dirty flash = flash ROM, then wipe dalvik and cache. The only time you should do this if the ROM you're looking to flash says it can be done (ie. CM nightlies).
Hello so I tried installing lineageos. I used twrp 3.3.1, i opened it up from fastboot. I formatted data, Wiped, Dalvik cache, system, data. Then I moved the zip file from lineage os from pc, i tried flashing it and It ended up giving me error 1. I gave up on this. I wiped the whole thing again and tried backing up with backup I took before all that. It's giving me out partition not found. Im currently still in twrp mode. What do I do?

I am braain I read everything, when you install a Roms you must also have the gapps (open Gapps App site) then look you have to know armeabi7a which is your processor and click, then choose the size of the Gapps (I choose the nano) and then download i think you use pc? downloaded no extract put it in SDmicro, you have also downloaded the Rom Laneage put it together with Gapps so you have in the download folder in SD two zip. The rom stock that you backed up and tried to restore did not restart because you have to put back the original stock firmware, you understand why you have to do it all over again, then another thing you do back up just for the old stock and then in TWRP go to Wipe click and make cache, date, Dalvik, done system slides and again says done and go in the zip first the ROM flash has to say successful operation, then flash the Gapps and then it returns in the Wipe button click and go in Dalvik / Cache and then restart ok in boot. Remember if you want to put the Rom back in stock the Xiaomi firmware cancels Laneage you always have to start over it does so. By?
