My Tab S 8.4 T705 seems completely dead. I left it switched on and charging overnight, and the next morning it was off and completely unresponsive. I've tried:
Plugging the wall charger in. No battery icon appears.
Using different chargers and cables.
Leaving it plugged in for about 10 hrs
Plugging into a PC. Nothing detected.
Holding power button for more than a minute.
Trying every button combo I can think of: Pwr-VolUp-Home, Pwr-VolDown-Home, Pwr-VolUp-VolDown, Pwr-VolUp, Pwr-VolDown. Tried holding them down for more than a minute.
Connecting a USB device via OTG cable. USB device doesn't receive any power.
Any other suggestions before I take it off to a repair shop?
The worrying thing is, this happened the night after I flashed the unofficial Marshmallow ROM. I successfully flashed it, had it working great, and had powered it off and on multiple times. It could just be a coincidence that it died hours afterwards, and I've been running the exact same ROM (same build even) on another T705 without problems for a month or more. But I am a bit suspicious that the ROM triggered some sort of hardware fault.

I have a rooted HTC evo 4g. I rooted it about 2 months ago and have had no problems.
I woke up this morning, and it is bricked. I have not recently flashed anything or done anything beyond regular phone use.
i cannot enter download mode, and the "charging" led does not come on.
Any suggestions?
What does your phone do when you press the power button?
Have you removed the battery and inspected for indications of damage such as discoloration or bulges?
Have you tried connecting a different USB cable that is known to be working?
Have you visually inspected the USB connector for loose/damaged conductors?

the power button does nothing.
The usb cable and wall adapter works on my kindle, and i tried an additional one with no results.
The battery appears normal, however my next planned step is to try and get a replacement battery and see if that works.
Try taking battery out and then plug usb cable in only and try to turn on...

no dice.
also wondering about the cause... 2 potential things:
- I've noticed that the phone gets very hot. 40+ degrees even when not running much. Is this within normal tolerance or could i be looking at heat damage.
- I've been getting the pop-up asking me to do some sort of OTA update. I keep saying no, because i know these ota updates can be incompatible with rooted phones. Could it have pushed through somehow and if it did could it cause the problem i am experiencing?
phone is fixed.
A read on the sprint forum that sometimes holding down the power for an extended time can get the phone to be responsive... had to hold it for like 90 seconds. It then flashed the white evo boot screen and powered back down almost immediately.
After this, however, the orange charging light came on and i was able to get to boot loader. I let the phone charge for a while, then it boot up as normal.
One of the things i noticed is that the battery is practically completely drained... this is odd as it was plugged into the charger when it died. On the same sprint forum, others have speculated that sometimes the battery can drain to the point where it wont accept a charge anymore... so maybe thats the issue.
I have a weird issue going on with my LG G3 rooted device. I bought the phone about 2 weeks ago and rooted it same day, no issues. A couple days ago I was charging it in my car with a phone charger base that you plug into the car lighter. It was plugged in for about 20 seconds when I noticed it wasn't charging and then i started to smell a burning plastic smell. Turns out the charger base got fried.
Phone was working fine but later that day when i tried to charge it at home in the wall, stock charger, it wouldn't charge whatsoever. So i turned the phone off and tried again and it charged no issues. Now every time i charge my phone I either have to charge it when it's off or plug the charger in and reboot the phone and then it charges while on. I also can't get it to connect to my computer. I was just going to backup my files to my computer and hard reset to see if that fixed the issues but I can't seem to connect to the computer no matter what I do.
Any advice would be appreciated. Also do you think this is a hardware issue or some coincidental software issue. Thanks.
Last weekend I plugged in my daughters tab 3 and let it charge and forgot about it. Last night she wanted to play on it so I took it off the charger and tried to power it on, but with no luck. I then realized the charging cable I used was faulty. The battery seems to be in good shape BC when I put the voltmeter to it, it read 3.71 volts. But I'm not sure if its charged or not. I've tried different cables and outlets with no luck on charging or powering on. I've also tried various time increments with holding the power button and or button combinations. Is there anything I can do to get it to power on? Or charge the battery without using the USB port on the tablet, I've had problems with it before and had to replace it. My daughter loves playing on it and would like to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Sorry it's a T210, if that makes any difference.
My N5X ran out of charge last night and turned off. I have been charging it since using my Nexus Charger, but the only response I get is the notification LED flashes around 20 times and that too when I press the power button for a good 20 seconds.
I attributed this to the low battery. I've used a different adapter and tried charging it with a different cable but still no luck.
The phone is rooted and on Marshmallow 6.0.1.
Everything (including the charger and the phones charging) was working fine up until last night.
Anyone?
Any advice?
Sounds like a battery.
Mine died due to eMMC failure so it actually had one time it didn't even had any LED when trying to charge.
Alternative solution that might work is trying different USB outlets which might eventually allow it to power on.
So I am using my tab pro with CM13 for almost a year then suddenly, while playing vainglory. It turned off automatically. I thought it just ran out of battery so I decided to charge it. After waiting for a couple of minutes, it didn't charge, it just boot looping, I tried to enter recovery mode but it won't. I can't pass. Only Download mode works. I tried to connect it into pc to flash another recovery in Odin but I can't, it just reboots again. Any suggestion? I also did removed the battery for 24hrs. and placed it again hoping that it will work... changed usb cables, but nothing happened.... help .... Thanks!
This literally happened to me yesterday on lineage 14.1. I was watching Plex, and the tablet crashed, powered off and was stuck on the logo screen when I tried to power it back up.
I hard powered off the tablet and plugged it in to charge overnight. I flipped the screen cover over the tablet, but I think it entered a bootloop after plugging it into the charger and the battery drained. (didn't charge while connected to charger)
For some reason the tablet refused to charge and would enter a bootloop again.
I tried to enter recovery, and it would show the twrp screen before rebooting.
I was able to get into download mode though.
To fix this issue I connected the tablet into the wall charger and held the tablet power button for 2 mins as suggested in this thread.

Thanks for the help and thread suggestion. Before I jump to conclusions, i just want to add that I also tried to use the tablet without its battery but plugged in into wall charger. I am getting same results. So my problem wasn't the battery, right? I did press the power button more than 2mins. While trying to charge using my wall charger, still the same
Darn, in that case it sounds like your issue could be related to something else.
