This is the thread I used but you have to be S-Off to do it.

I also tried the method you speak of by getting a new token to unlock your phone and it did not work for me either. But, if you S-off your phone and have SuperUser access, use the method in the thread I recommend. You will be able to lock and re-lock at will. If you haven't S-off'd your phone the best method is Sunshine. It cost 25.00 I believe, but it is well worth it.

Bootloader unlock failed

Hi guys...so i updated my phone to 2.3.4 then rooted it with the zergrush method. Now i'm trying to unlock my bootloader so that i can flash cyanogen mod.I followed all instructions from the cyanogen site but i'm getting this error...
(bootloader) Unlock phone requested
FAILED (remote: oem unlock failed!)
finished. total time: 0.000s
Does anyone know what this error means.
Are you 100% sure you can unlock yours? If you're sim locked then no you can't.

I'm not sim locked and i followed the instructions to the t from start to finish.I even got the unlock key twice to check if that was wrong but both keys were the same.
I did the unlock bootloader check and it confirmed i can unlock it.
All drivers installed and can connect in fastboot mode ie blue light.
Getvar command was good ie 0.3
But i still get that error.

Yeah there's no 0's or O's.No but if it wasn't factory unlocked would that cause this problem.
In cases like that I think you may have to pay some dude to get it unlocked. Try giving these forums a search. There's a link to the guy who does them someplace on here.

I might have to look into that...thanks for the help.Nice name by the way .
One more ? if i flash cwm without unlocking my bootloader would i still be able to flash custom roms.
As long as the custom rom runs on the stock kernel I think so. I've yet to try the Darkforest one. I couldn't get it to work when I was on stock kernel with a locked bootloader. So I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. I can message the results if I manage to get it to flash via CWM. Thanks for the compliment Just putting back in what I take out.
I think that thread for the pay service bootloader unlock was removed for some reason but he has a website now

[Q] Unlock Fastboot on a Network locked phone which payed method? (r800a) Wotanserver

Hi Xda I'm currently trying to find out which pay methods will enable fastboot on my currently network locked R800a.
I've seen many threads stating that if I want fastboot I'll need to pay and thats fine but I was just wondering if Wotan server is one of the methods that will work for me.
Here are some of those threads stating I can pay but none point to Wotan as a actually one (from what I can see on wotans site they can Unlock the sim network lock and as a biproduct of that unlock it also unlocks the Boot loader but it doesn't state whether it will enable fast boot on an (R800a) or any others. It seems that on any generic XP unlocking the bootloader is all that's required to enable Fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330058 , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040779&highlight=enable+fastboot , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330058 , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18138850 , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497172&highlight=enable+fastboot , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236892&highlight=enable+fastboot
My R800a is currently stock, network locked, unrooted, Bootloader unlock status allowed: no, and under the 12W11manufacturer date (12w09)
In the end I want my phone Network unlocked, rooted, bootloader unlocked with fastboot enabled so I can install CWM and customs roms/kernels the easy way. as opposed to having to find hard to find custom ftf kernels ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187172 )
Anyway if you read through all that thank you for your time and unlike some of those others I will actually post back to this thread if I get any solutions that work for me.

Awesome but just to double check you have a Sim locked Telephone company branded phone that was network locked that had it's bootloader status as Bootloader Unlock Status: No and after using Wotan server you were able to go into fastboot mode?
Could you let me know what your phone model is?
if so awesome I hope to do it tonight it's just that Unlock bootloader (can't post website) guy (some Xda member) promises to unlock fastboot
but Wotan doesn't. I emailed wotan yesterday but they're repsonse wasn't particulary helpful (I was asking a lot of other things too so maybe that's why they missed that one.) I'll post their responses here when I get the next one.
Anyway thanks for the response and glad my post helped.

Heres are my messages with wotan server and their responses.
"Hi Wotanserver,
I have an R800a and after digging through countless XDA posts I was unable
to confirm whether Wotan server would work for me.
I have an R800a
Unrooted, Bootloader still locked, and Sim network locked.
Rooting Status:
Bootloader Unlock allowed: No (not to sure if this is super important or
not)
Manufacturer date 12W09 (manufactured before 12W11)
Locked to telstra (australia)
I would like to unlock the bootloader so I can run custom roms. I would
also like to Unlock the Sim network lock so I can use it off telstra. And i
would like to be able to use fastboot mode on my phone so i can install
custom roms through that method.
Is it possible to do all of this after using your "Network Unlocking Sony
Ericsson Xperia PLAY by USB" package?
If not what can I get done?
After this is done will I still need to run the official sony bootload
unlocker or not?
and when I end up purchasing this am I doing this by myself or is there
some one assisting me through vnc server like some other services I've seen?
Can't wait to hear from you

Hello,
Your phone should be compatible with our service.
The unlocking service unlocks the network and the bootloader.
Official updates are disabled after unlock.
You just need to install and run X_Unlock_Tool_Setup_Wotan.exe
There's a detailed video guide included directly in the unlocking tool.

New user, need help unlocking my s3 Rogers to Telus.

Hey guys I am new here. I tried unlocking my s3 via the UMTS/Network lock method but it wont work since my phone is on Android Version 4.3
How can I use Odin to unlock my s3 for use with Telus? I don't care about tripping knox as it's a hand me down and doubt It has any warranty or anything left.
You will have no choice but to unlock the phone via unlock code. Using Odin is not going to allow you to downgrade and unlock.

Gotcha, looks like I'm gonna have to pay someone for an unlock code. What are some good reputable places?
I would look for someone on ebay with a good price and good feedback. That's what I did for my Note 3 and Motorola.
I used the following thread a couple of years ago and have been switching between Rogers and Telus sims without any issues. Phone was originally Telus locked. This worked on 4.1.1, not sure if it will work on later versions of Android?
---------- Post added at 05:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:13 PM ----------
PMd you the link. Let me know if it worked, I'm curious if it's still a valid method.
Using the 4.1.1 method on a phone with a 4.3 or newer bootloader may hard brick the phone.

Please use search before you start useless threads. You have found info about CF Auto Root from Chainfire. It will only work with an unlocked bootloader and the US Snapdragon versions of the S8 and S8+ have a locked bootloader. So it will not work. There are several thread about this and a post from Chainfire himself stating on US versions it will not work.
No, CF-Auto requires unlocked bootloader. The only reason files for devices that are locked down is because the site runs automated scripts to generate root files. So it'll work if and once the bootloader is unlocked. But for now, both will not work.
thanks for letting me know
Update on unlocking bootloader?
Wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not there has been any progress on unlocking the bootloader for the US versions of the g955u <snapdragon> yet? I know that the new unlocked versions of the phones came out recently and was wondering if anyone had a crack yet?

I believe those are carrier unlocked; NOT Boot Loader Unlocked.
I had a feeling I was buying the wrong version of S8 plus, is that why OEM is no longer in developer options?

I was just recently messing around with my CID and MID. Can you get to "setting", "security". About 3/4 way down is "SIM Lock" settings. If it's locked it probably has a PIN or password. You should be able to toggle it off and on.

Actually, I don't have such setting. The phone was from T-mobile. I usually just use the app to unlock. This time, it did not work. I guess the original owner may still own money to tmobile.
Right now, I already have a custom ROM and can't go back to the original ROM even I made a backup with TWRP.

Anyway, please let me know if there is a way to unlock a s-off HTC 10.

Yea you might be right about the previous owner owing in it. Or if they don't, maybe it hasn't been unlocked from T-Mobile. When I paid off my M8 I had to call T-Mobile and can get an unlocked code from them after they confirmed it was paid in full and that I had an active account for at least 6 months.

The only think I don't understand is (sorry, not android developer ), that why we can't unlock sim for a s-off htc 10. Yes, I am sure. Every ROM works, but not all with all carrier. I had the same thought as yours and turned out that it did not work.
I installed several different ROM and tried the original stock ROM. It only recognize the tmboile.
The funny thing is that, I tried Lineage 15.1 and unlock the sim with the code. It worked. However, when I tried 14.1, it does not recognize my SIM again. 15.1 is not good for my phone. The "home" button did not work

You're right in assuming what S-Off does. But I believe the SIM card is controlled by the carrier. So when they "lock" a SIM card it is done on the carrier's level where they use the IMEI number of the device to toggle an activation lock so that that IMEI number can't get activated on any network. When they give you the unlock code, they essentially release the IMEI number of that device from any activation restrictions. Being S-Off will give you the ability to "unlock" the SIM so that you can use other carrier's SIM cards, ie, AT&T device on T-MOBILE's network, etc.
I may be corrected if any of the above is incorrect. But I'm pretty sure this is correct for the most part.

However, I disagree some part of the above. The SIM unlock is NOT done at the carrier's level. As far as I understand. The SIM lock is a restriction on the somewhere on the phone. I have gone through many other posts in the forum. For example, for M9, you can just overwrite some bytes on the phone to archive that. Unfortunately, no such thing for HTC 10.
The unlock activity is only on the phone to allow it to use other SIM. There is no communication to the carrier.
Thanks,
Steven
