LG promised updates lately. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Anyone have some info about LG and their promised security updates every month? Far as I know the latest patch was released in December and now is almost march.

They are more focused on LG G5 at the moment. Can't blame them

Q&A about Oreo Beta

Before we begin: NO, I WILL NOT PROVIDE A ZIP HERE.
OK, now when thats out of the way, lets Start with the most asked questions about Stock oreo for Moto G5.
1: Q: "Is the Beta out yet?"
A: Not yet, but very soon, as the Moto G5 MFN requests have Been accepted.
2: Q: "Can you provide the OTA ZIP?'
A: No, because
1:Its illeagel
2: Its made for a specific IMEI
3: It may damages your device.
3: Q: "How do we find out if Oreo Beta out? Using OTA?"
A: You cant find out if your Device's Bootloader is unlocked and if you didnt join MFN using this link:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-...or-the-Motorola-Feedback-Network/td-p/3064626
Then, when the day comes, you get Oreo Beta if you are on Stock and have Bootloader unlocked at that momement.
4: Q: "I dont care about illeagel stuff how do i get the ZIP extracted?"
A: You cant!
Because you only recieve the update if youre Bootloader locked. Thus you cant access /cache. Unlocking the Bootloader after you downloaded the Update erases Cache and Userdata (as we all know)
5: Q: "So... Will Oreo ever come out?"
A: Of course it does! Just give motorola time!
I will edit this thread when More questions get asked.
You can disguss and ask questions here, but look at your grammar and think twice before asking something.
Thanks, P8tgames :good:
Nice, can't wait to see news about the beta for our device
Hope it comes out quick
Truly excited.
I suppose there might be a way if someone runs a traffic detector on his/her network and grabs the OTA link...
(By the way, check some typos in the first post, it says things like "illeagel").
Oreo? We will get a lousy November security patch update first. So Oreo maybe in March or April, I bet.

Well, it shouldn't take longer than march. If it does, it will be a tremendous dissapointment. My guess is february, maybe they will skip november and go straight to december-january
I got my g5 yesterday and it only has august 2017 security patch, so a 1 day old phone for me has only a 5 months old security patch available in it... I came from a G4 Play forgotten by motorola after they promised G4 Play users an update to android 7.0 more than a year ago and never delivered.... looks like I've fallen in the same trap again, damn.

How does a t mobile customer get the new update? On my t mobile lg v30 phone it is not available yet for over the air update.
Download LG Bridge ... though it’s still not available there yet either.
Checking for updates on the phone is a futile effort
No update yet. This phone seriously is 4 months behind starting tomorrow on security patches. My S7 is more up to date than this phone.
Received the 10d update this morning on my V30+. 153mb states it's a security update to make phone safer, only thing noticed so far is on January security patch.

No one seems excited about this. That means the LG V30 (T-Mobile) is on the newest Security patch version of any non-Google phone at the time this was released.
LG might only do every 2-3 security patches, but when they do, they update to the newest. I'd say LG and T-Mobile are doing pretty good with updates for the V30. A good sign for future updates of this phone!
Also when the October security patch applied it seemed to decrease my battery a little bit. Hopefully this brings it back.
Has antirollback been updated/changed in this update?

TMobile has always pushed security updates for LG devices every 2-4 months.
Was like that on G4, seems more frequent for G6, etc...
LG makes the initial firmware. TMO Devs are actually responsible for pushing security patches. At least thats what LG says.

Pathetic actually.
There is really no excuse for any carrier to interfere with google security updates. Google provides them for free, and to stand back for 4 months [ in the case of the lgv30] while threats gain traction with hackers.
Google needs to demand that the carriers stop interfering with users getting these updates.

You're half right.
Google gives them for free to source code. The OEM needs to push to the carriers & carriers have to push them to individual devices.
If the carriers didn't, "interfere," as you say, there wouldn't be updates at all.
Google can only push updates directly to devices that they control (ie: nexus, pixel, & Android One, or devices that support project treble.)
Besides that, skinned OEM versions of Android aren't the same as AOSP devices.
There's so much code that needs to be patched and Google doesn't control OEM code, only base Android source code.
And until OEMs fully adopt/support project treble, that's just the way it is..
Also, as far as the V30. It's been updated as much as the rest from T-Mobile. Besides LG is actively working to push Oreo out. Once they do that things will get better. After the V30S is released we should get Oreo and more frequent updates. Nougat isn't going to stay much longer.
Honestly I'm more worried about how they won't let us use fastboot or root.

I don't see anyone complaining about TMobile Samsung devices only getting updates every 4 months as they always have. People are just on this low knowledge band wagon warpath against LG based on a few articles online and complete lack of understanding.

Considering how Lenovorola was sending out a Feb patch in the same month to the G5S+, I'm betting on this coming out mid to end of March and rolling out in about twelve days to all regions (based on the Jan update rollout)

Honestly, I don't see what the big fuss is about Oreo. We have it already by way of custom ROMs, and it's stable enough for daily use at this point. The only issue I've seen is that certain camera functions don't work properly without the proprietary firmware, so if you want to adjust ISO or shutter speed you have to use a stock rom. That's exactly what I'm doing, btw, and I have yet to see anything 8.1 has that makes it functionally Superior to 7.0 and aside from security patches, I'm unlikely to change anything about my rom because Oreo just doesn't "wow" me.

I am of your opinion that there is no big "wow" about Oreo. But it's an update Lenovo/Motorola promised to their users and under these circumstances something one has paid for.
About custom roms: I'm a big fan of custom roms and use them on my other devices. But as there is no Oreo source for the Moto G5+ imo there are still several problems with AOSP or Lineage based roms like users losing volte, IMEI or even mobile data when returning to stock after being on 8.1 custom roms and also the roms I've tested lack of stability and features beside the mentioned camera issues. No daily driver material for me.
That would not happen if the kernel sources of stock Oreo for potter would be available and as we all know this will only happen when our devices will be upgraded. The Moto G5+ stock rom is really good in terms of battery and performance and I'm very satisfied with the rooted 7.0 stock but I won't unroot and flash stock everytime just to get a security patch. Don't get me wrong, security patches are good and important but for me it's not worth the effort against the background that a major update is about to come in foreseeable time.
And that's the point why I'm waiting for Oreo for the Moto G5+. For stable custom roms and a good reason to unroot and reflash my device.

Stable enough although not ideal. There are always a couple hacks and other shenanigans that may not deliver the complete experience. Either missing blobs or proprietary functions that some people need it.
Warranty. I did unlock my bootloader within 3 months. My G5 Plus started to act stupid, the power and volume buttons would get stuck and not press down anymore. This is not my fault. I'm no *insert stereotype here* to handle my phone as if it is some piece of brick.
Result: I bought another one, extra 800BRL.
Also, not everyone has the knowledge to flash ROMs, as easy as it may be. Some people **** up the most simple stuff, such as downloading the right zip for the right device.

I think they improved the File Manager.
More precise notification settings. (Notification Channels)
Unknown Source APK settings revamped. (Now you don't need to go back to that APK file because the system won't dismiss everything.) [And you can choose only your file manager in case your browser gets attacked and the attacker finds a way to install APKs from it, security+)

It should "wow" the fact that Motorola promised something as a company and did not deliver.
Would you trust them again? Do you believe they are caring enough about you as customer, or do you think they see you more as money than other OEMs?
I'm out won't due that stuck button problem I had and the delayed updates.

Companies lie. It's a universal constant. LG lied when they said all LG G4 devices after a certain serial number were free of the bootloop solder defect. Lie. They said it wouldn't happen in future devices. Lie. HTC lied about certain phones getting Gorilla Glass... They all lie. Motorola/Lenovo didn't give an exact date, they just said it would happen for a specific list of devices. They've reiterated the list, and then started a rollout in AUS/NZ for the X4 which is on that list, so now they can say they kept their promise because they started the rollout on one of the listed devices. They're going to say the delays are because they can't, logistically, rollout to all of them simultaneously. They've still come closer to keeping the promise than any other OEM, but they're all liars about something.
And I never take anything as a personal attack unless someone says something personal about *me* in an insulting way, so we're good. You're just sharing your opinion, same as I did. There's no harm in that.

An official Oreo release helps with custom Oreo ROM stabliity.
Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 is stable enough for daily use. I've been running it the past week weeks without GAPPs just fine.

Afte rall you can choose to not update to oreo, use a lineage of Nougat. Many choices for android users, you have nothing to worry about.

Where does LG say that? They never give a timeline or date prediction that I've seen. Don't trust various sites stating when they predict LG will give Pie.
Also, first ones to get PIE we'll be Korean carrier variants -- yeah, possibly Q1 2019... But everyone else will be months after that. Will be at least Q2 for rest of us, just like Oreo earlier this year.

The tech support usually, even if they would have the information (which by far isnt always the case, who would give some confidential information to basically the lowest people in the hirachy?), not allowed to tell that anyone.

Just like I said -- by end of 2nd quarter for V30. I KNEW that was the plan! See here:

Android 9 Pie started rolling out to the Korean G7 today, but other models will have to wait longer. LG's schedule says the V35 will also get Pie in Q1 2019 (which ends March 31), but the V40, V30, and V30S will have to wait until Q2 2019 (ends on June 30). The G6, V20, and Q8 are expected to receive Pie in Q3, and the Q9 and X5 will get it by the end of the year.

It's about time LG should realise that just stamping out new phones with 10 different variants isn't gonna do anything for them. With the G8 coming out soon I doubt the V30 will even be getting any security updates after the pie rollout. No cutting edge hardware is any good if it's running 2 year old software. It's one thing to treat mid tier or budget devices this way but even to your flagships, that's like axing your own foot. With the 90day security update criteria to be in the so called 'android enterprise recommended' program, LG is just doing the bare minimum so that they don't lose a marketing opportunity.

Yeah but V30 was launched in sept'17 and completes it's 3 years sept'20. Since LG takes about an year to rollout the updates(pie released aug'18 and it'll positively be Q3'19 before all V30 variants receive the update) even if the next android version releases in Q3 this year I highly doubt we'll get another software upgrade release within that 3 year time frame.

Yes, Pie will be the last letter upgrade and will start arriving Q2 2019 and continue into Q3 2019. Security updates will continue for at least a full year after that.
However, I was referring to this comment:

Security updates will continue to Q3 2020 and possibly Q2 2021 -- depending on definition of the starting line. Oreo was needed to even be in the Enterprise Recommended program, and we didn't get Oreo and the 90-day updates until Q2 2018.
The V30 will be the first and last LG smart phone I will buy. I'll stick to Google or Samsung next go. But no more LG. Lucky to get one major android update.

I'll take this reasonably priced phone I can actually unlock/root before I ever consider a Samsuck again!
Anyone got pie update or security patch for LG H930DS?
Has anyone received a security patch update after AUG 2018 for LG H930DS? And has anyone received the pie update? and when do you guys think we will get it? For the H930DS Indian Version..

LG G7 EU Version will recieve the Pie update ?

Hi
Do you think that the lg g7 will receive the pie update for the eu ?
Thank you
Makes you wonder, feels like the G7 is abandonware now that the G8 is out. Even security patches are absent. But the answer is simple, no more LG, ever.
But they said that they will makes an update that's right ?

And in Korea they have the update
In Korea they have the update, so I guess they already did their promise. The rest of the world is a small place in LG eyes.

Crap, Some forum say that the update was supposed to happen by the end of april.
We will see but I hope so.
Do you know some bugless and good pie rom for the LG G7 ?
Some of the branded models in eu got a update with April patch only. So likely no pie on his way. I try to hold out this year and I go back to sony or oneplus. I wanted to last for sure 2 years with this phone but not on this way. Some thing still not even fixed. Now even other flag ship support wide angle camera it's easy to leave lg.

Yes, pretty easy but it's actually a good phone...
I can't believe that lg just give up about an update for a high-end 2018 smartphone

They even move the production to Vietnam to reduce cost. That's how bad lg do. The g8 got tripple camera in Korea and dual in europe. Can't name any other brand who works like lg. Who ever upgrade is not aware of the money you trow away because if you want to get rid of it its lower than half price worth. Good device but what a shame

I hope that will work
Obviously we have poor chance to get this update.
LG Benelux said "we doesn't know when and if a update is on the way for the EU version of lg g7"
?
Since the Kernal sources for Pie for EU versions are already out.. It won't take too long to be rolled out as OTA .. May be this week itself..

Does sources were published sometime at the end of March, or beginning of April if I'm not mistaken I had them on my computer for awhile now...
I'll never buy an LG smartphone ever again

Why would they write source code just for fun? it will arrive
Official response from LG Spain. They say that the update for the LG G710EM will come in June but they are not 100% because it depends on the software update center in Korea. So the real problem is the LG center update in Korea.
Well at least lg is the second last behind htc to update 9.0 after any other company updated there flagships. What I read about other phones that have software issues like oneplus 7 pro I must say I don't even want to trade this phone because the G7 still great for what it is and reliable to me. LG could be the best in the market if they put some effort in it.
