Build.prop for on screen buttons aren't working for me - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I typed in the qemu.hw.mainkeys=0, saved, rebooted, and nothing happened. I even type in "#" in front of the back, home, and menu keys in the build props in the other files. Still nothing.
I'm on 4.4.4, in case that might have something to do with anything. Any other way I can get the on screen buttons?

Nvm, I just changed my battery to the OEM one I have, and all of a sudden the on screen buttons appeared when I turned my phone on. I didn't even know that's what the problem was. Anyone know why that might be.
I had a ravpower battery in it, just to let you guys know.

Update: pulled the OEM battery, and put the ravpower battery back in, and the on screen buttons stayed on!
Hmmm....weird that it took me to change the battery for the on screen buttons to appear....very random. Oh well, it works, and I couldn't be happier. I love these on screen buttons.
In case anyone else had the same problem as me, try changing batteries, or maybe just pulling it, then reinstering, and see if that does the trick.

Screen blacks out while charging.

Anyone else have this issue? I couldn't find anything on it. As long as I'm charging, my screen constantly turns black. Only locking, then unlocking will turn the screen back on, but it usually just goes black again.
This only happens while charging. Stock Froyo, but happened just as common with 2.1.
Any insight is appreciated.

it sounds like it is just timing out like when you have it unplugged correct?
if you want to make it so your screen stays on while charging go to settings>applications>development> check stay awake
If i am totally off on what you are asking can you be more specific about the problem.
Thank you. I do have it set to stay awake. The screen turns black, but actions can be taken (just can't see what actions). So if I hit the lock button and hit it again, it will turn back on for a split second and then go black again. It is very strange.

Is that helpful omega?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i have the same problem and it has nothing to do with the timing on the phone, it turns off but u can still hear the "click" when u touch the phone, supposedly a few phones have had the same problem and is a problem with the connection that the chargin port is deffective or something like that, the best thing you can do is return the phone to where you purchased it from and tell them you have a defective unit, there is nothin you can do about it

Lock screen gone

Usually after pressing the power button the pink lock screen from tmobile would show up. But today after pressing the button to unlock the phone theres no lock screen, it just goes straight to the homescreeen. I tried putting a password and it still doesnt bring up the lock screen. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is still an issue after a restart?
that would have been normal on CM7 if you disabled lock screen
but on TW... it's rather unusual, specially when we still have no root
can you try installing super user meanwhile you are at it?

Also, theres another problem. When I hold the power button the phone shuts off automatically instead of the menu asking you want to turn of the phone.

This definitely sounds like a faulty phone, I would return it. These options are normally present in a CM7 build like allgamer said.
I don't think that it is a faulty phone. Watch the review by Mobile Syrup and the lock screen on their phone is gone to.
mine is doing the same no lock screen and phone shuts off as soon as I hold the power button
Edit: just tried setting a lock screen with pin and nothing still hmmm

If and when I get this phone you'll have about 9 lockscreens to choose from and a variety of power options (as well as a ton of other mods and hacks).
Just click on a few of the links in my sig.
Yes I can't wait

how do you do a factory reset?
What will a factory reset erase? Will i have to root again?
This is my problem, I have been using my sim card for like 6 years now and today it just stopped working in my phone..
So I took it out and put it back in , still doesnt work, and right after that happend I realized that my lock screen had ceased functioning which i read is a known issue.
So i lost all my contacts, i will go have to get a new sim tomorrow, still don't know if i should trade the phone is for a new one.
this problem had something to do with the *#0*# command, and and testing the camera while in that menu. i just reflashed the deodexed rom and it was fine.
I had this problem too. I had to do a factory reset to fix the problem.
Here's another thread discussing a potential cause of the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18702063&postcount=12
There are programs out there to use until then. Right now I'm using Quick Boot and it seems to do the trick just fine.

I'm rooted and used Titanium Backup, and a few other "safe" apps. Then suddenly my screen lock dissapeared. Battery pulls would not restore it and neither would any settings fiddling. When I held the power button down two seconds, it would shut the phone off instead of the usual popup that gives you the option to power down.
The only way I was able to restore it was reset the phone to factory settings. Then I restored via a CW backup (wow CW is awesome)
Anyway is this a common thing? I can't imagine this happening to an iPhone. What could cause this--do I have to erase my phone next time this happens? What a PITA!!!
Did you try the numeric combo which gets you into the phone diagnostics? If so we discovered that the megacam test hoses the lockscreen for some reason.

[Q] Screen stays on whild phone off and charging

Im having a problem on my recently rooted/unlocked/updated to 4.1.2 Op G.
The screen stays on continuously while phone is off and plugged in. I checked developer options and screen options and time outs are all set to 30 seconds.
Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix anywhere?
I also find that the charging animation comes on if i hit the power button while the phone is off and charging but eventually it goes away and the screen stays on.
Also if the phone/screen are both off and then I plug in the phone the screen comes on and stays on.....
help?
I have this too. When I turn the phone off and charge it you can see the screen is barely lit. I noticed it when I unlocked, so assume that is the cause of it

saw this as recently as last night. I just waited until the battery was charged a little and turned it on to make sure everything was fine. Weirded me out though lol.

Screen won't work (stays black)

Okay so I've been a silly billy, when I was going to bed last night, I took my phone with me (turned out to be a bad idea), so after some time browsing the web I fell asleep, I've done this plenty of times without anything happening to the phone, but this time, it didn't go very well. So what I've think caused it was the heat from my body, and the point that I was half laying on it some of the night. But anyhow, the problem is the following. So when I woke up, I took my phone and turned on the screen, all seemed normal, except when I was pressing on the screen nothing happend, so I was checking if it was frozen by pressing the power button and got up the power menu as normal, so the screen must have been "defect", I now understood how silly I was bringing it with me to bed. But, I thought it would just need some hours, to get back to normal, so I pulled the battery, and took it out, and letted the phone lay for itself some hours. When I went back to it, it wouldn't even bring back light to the screen, I could sense it turned on as it vibrated, and it showed there was a nortification by blinking, but it simply wouldn't turn the screen on. Or atleast that's what I think it is. Now I've concluded it can't be a software issue as it doesn't even show bootanimation (whatsoever), but the nortification led works. It can't be anything related to battery neither as it boots up and so on, tried to switch the battery with my replacement one though just incase, samething happend. But the weird thing is, there's no marks on the screen itself, it doesn't seem to have recieved any pressure on it, which has caused the screen not working, also it worked earlier today, just without touch ofc. So any of you guys got an idea? Should I try to go deep into the device and check if the screen is alright ( open the device itself), I don't have an guarentee on the phone, as it expired for half a year ago. Also, I can't afford the cost of the easy way out by getting the screen replaced, atleast not at this point.
Any help would be appreciated

Seriuos reboot issue

Since today in the morning I have been having several reboots when using the phone normally. I was using sedirom, never had any issues, just freezes, none other than that. How can I verify if my power button is f#+$%d up? Any ideas? Just flashed from odin the stock ics, and happened once... just touching the screen nothing else
Switched to cm11 4.4 ... so far so good, had a couple of reboots, haven't used the power button since, haven't had any random reboots since. I'm afraid my power button just screwed up I will have to look into a replacement soon. What a shame, ive been really comfortable with my glide. I guess its time to move on. The device itself is doing great except for the power button. Installed link2sd which has a widget for reboot options. Ill go from there.
Found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-U-Q_NdOo I honestly dont think that would work but ill give it a shot. yesterday i cleaned the power button by opening the phone and removing the motherboard. It worked fine, but its happened like 3 times so far today. Has anybody here had the issue with the power button? What do I do? :s :crying:
Well my development Glide has the same issue. Sometimes it works flewless and sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times to even reach TWRP cause it powers off an on again. But I'm uncertain if it is the power button what makes you sure that it is not another defect inside?

Ive made several tests, even having a certain app to lock my screen and unlock it by opening the keyboard work great with no issues. When using the power button (sometimes), it turns off, reboots, and goes on a loop until I press it several times or hit the phone against my knee like pushing out the button, if you know what i mean. Yesterday I opened the phone, took out the motherboard, cleaned around the power button, and it actually worked fine, until like 10 hours after it happened again. And if i press the power button in a certain way like from the corner for example, it will screw up. Well i really could not explain it really well, thing is im 99% sure it is the power button
Any news about that? You said that you have opened the glide is it possible to replace the power button ?
Hm or we need to buy a e.g. screen broken glide and replace the whole motherboard? Would that be possible?

Turns out replacing the battery was the solution... wtf right???! I mean, I was using one I bought from Amazon, it was working great. Till the issue with random reboots came out. I did open the phone, cleaned the motherboard, and as far as Ive seen, yes you could replace the power button, however, after cleaning it, the issue came back afterwards. Just out of curiosity, I placed my old stock battery back on the phone, and never had the issue again. Power button is working fine, and never got stuck in a boot loop again... While I was investigating the issue, I came out with a dude on a video where he ¨cleaned¨out the battery contacts and it worked for him, thats why I used my old battery. And it actually worked. My phone has been good ever since I replaced the old battery. Not even one single random reboot again. Thanks for asking though.

Well let me tell you, it worked out for some time, but it is back. Got a couple of reboots today, I know is the power button since the shut down options came out after I tried to unlock the phone... This sucks. I cannot assure if it is the power button... It seems it is fine, but presumptuously most samsung branded phones have that same issue at some point. And the power button appears to be ok... sigh... Guess Ill have to start thinking which will be my replacement phone...
Today Ive made a hard decision. Im moving on from my old cappy. It had a good run, but the power button issues really got to my nerve. I believe I will go tomorrow to get a Sony Xperia L. Its been a pleasure guys, great device. Rolled me up for a good time. See you around:good:

Well I know have a new Sony Xperia L, pretty cool phone btw, and in regards to my glide, what I did was open that little bastard, remove the motherboard, completely remove the idiotic tiny power button from the motherboard. Tore it apart LOL. Place everything back, to the phone. Works! Then next step go to the play store download an app called: ProximityScreenOff-Lite, it uses the motion sensor to lock/unlock the phone, pretty much like a function found in CRdroid ROM. And if I need to reboot I have the Link2SD widget that allows me to reboot, quick reboot, or recovery
