Since today in the morning I have been having several reboots when using the phone normally. I was using sedirom, never had any issues, just freezes, none other than that. How can I verify if my power button is f#+$%d up? Any ideas? Just flashed from odin the stock ics, and happened once... just touching the screen nothing else
Switched to cm11 4.4 ... so far so good, had a couple of reboots, haven't used the power button since, haven't had any random reboots since. I'm afraid my power button just screwed up I will have to look into a replacement soon. What a shame, ive been really comfortable with my glide. I guess its time to move on. The device itself is doing great except for the power button. Installed link2sd which has a widget for reboot options. Ill go from there.
Found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-U-Q_NdOo I honestly dont think that would work but ill give it a shot. yesterday i cleaned the power button by opening the phone and removing the motherboard. It worked fine, but its happened like 3 times so far today. Has anybody here had the issue with the power button? What do I do? :s :crying:
Well my development Glide has the same issue. Sometimes it works flewless and sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times to even reach TWRP cause it powers off an on again. But I'm uncertain if it is the power button what makes you sure that it is not another defect inside?

Ive made several tests, even having a certain app to lock my screen and unlock it by opening the keyboard work great with no issues. When using the power button (sometimes), it turns off, reboots, and goes on a loop until I press it several times or hit the phone against my knee like pushing out the button, if you know what i mean. Yesterday I opened the phone, took out the motherboard, cleaned around the power button, and it actually worked fine, until like 10 hours after it happened again. And if i press the power button in a certain way like from the corner for example, it will screw up. Well i really could not explain it really well, thing is im 99% sure it is the power button
Any news about that? You said that you have opened the glide is it possible to replace the power button ?
Hm or we need to buy a e.g. screen broken glide and replace the whole motherboard? Would that be possible?

Turns out replacing the battery was the solution... wtf right???! I mean, I was using one I bought from Amazon, it was working great. Till the issue with random reboots came out. I did open the phone, cleaned the motherboard, and as far as Ive seen, yes you could replace the power button, however, after cleaning it, the issue came back afterwards. Just out of curiosity, I placed my old stock battery back on the phone, and never had the issue again. Power button is working fine, and never got stuck in a boot loop again... While I was investigating the issue, I came out with a dude on a video where he ¨cleaned¨out the battery contacts and it worked for him, thats why I used my old battery. And it actually worked. My phone has been good ever since I replaced the old battery. Not even one single random reboot again. Thanks for asking though.

Well let me tell you, it worked out for some time, but it is back. Got a couple of reboots today, I know is the power button since the shut down options came out after I tried to unlock the phone... This sucks. I cannot assure if it is the power button... It seems it is fine, but presumptuously most samsung branded phones have that same issue at some point. And the power button appears to be ok... sigh... Guess Ill have to start thinking which will be my replacement phone...
Today Ive made a hard decision. Im moving on from my old cappy. It had a good run, but the power button issues really got to my nerve. I believe I will go tomorrow to get a Sony Xperia L. Its been a pleasure guys, great device. Rolled me up for a good time. See you around:good:

I don't believe so. It occurs with several Roms and in several android versions. And it happens within recovery mode too sometimes

No prob Androide3, not even using it with stock ics worked[emoji20] i am afraid it is a hardware related issue. Not really sure though
I found this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37976063
Anyone know anything about it?

Well I know have a new Sony Xperia L, pretty cool phone btw, and in regards to my glide, what I did was open that little bastard, remove the motherboard, completely remove the idiotic tiny power button from the motherboard. Tore it apart LOL. Place everything back, to the phone. Works! Then next step go to the play store download an app called: ProximityScreenOff-Lite, it uses the motion sensor to lock/unlock the phone, pretty much like a function found in CRdroid ROM. And if I need to reboot I have the Link2SD widget that allows me to reboot, quick reboot, or recovery

My samsung galaxy s2 has sensitive power button for some reason. I'm not sure if its the roms i have been flashing. But im on IML74K_Ics_Perfection_UCLD2 and if the slightest touch on the power button turn on my phone when it is off. Or it can turn it when the phone is locked. But i can even press it all the way down for even a split second without it rebooting and going into a bootloop and taking me many tries to actually boot up. Is this a hardware problem with my phone should i restore my phone to stock and return back to tmobile or is this a ics problem with the roms?

Have you tried using any different roms? Is the issue still present? I haven't had or read about this issue before, and I've tried my fair share of roms.
I have tried the darkside roms but im starting to think its the phone and i think is should get it replaced then.
Yeah it shouldn't be so sensative.

i just started experiencing this last night. RIGHT after getting my battery replaced after two weeks of dealing with that problem and finally realizing it was my battery and not my phone. then i tried to take a screenshot of my new battery stats (without all of the huge sudden depletions) and my phone reset as if i held the power button down for 5 seconds. i read about a woman in india getting her button repaired for 550 rupees ($10), but i'm wondering if i should just get a whole new unit and be done with it. the problem with that is dealing with setting up all my apps over again. i have titanium backup (root version) but the last time i got a new phone it didn't put all my apps back on my phone. maybe i did something wrong. i'll email them for detailed instructions and see if it's better to get the button or the phone replaced.
Definitely the power button! After I hardbricked and revived it, my phone had an internal short, which made my phone constantly power off my phone, restart my phone over and over, etc. Josh at mobiletechvideos had to try and work around. He disabled my power button and remapped the wake buttons. So now I wake this phone via the volume rockers on roms that support that
I digress. If you can't send it to T-Mobile to get repaired, give mobile tech videos a shot. Just 35$ and they're super swift

I wonder what's actually causing this power button thing??
I was literally just browsing email, clicking around a little fast, back to home screen and FLASH!!! my camera flashes and all this same $hit starts happening...boot loop, sensitive button, booting out of recovery mode even. I just doesn't add up to sudden button failure...does it??? Why would the camera just flash out of nowhere? Some of the boot loops would also get interrupted and start over. Recovery mode is also kind of screwy. I tried to restore to a backup of Beastmade rom and it just reflashed Sith, the same rom I've been on!! And all my other backups/nandroids are missing. Something is fishy here.
I did recently go to TWRP and have been on the Sith Rom (clones & drones).
Yep its the power button ! I had this problem a month ago , but for me it completely went away .. maybe something was just stuck in between and the constant pressing of the button loosened whatever it was

The thing that has me curious is how mine started acting up. I wasn't even touching the power button. I was just clicking around gmail, went to home screen, the camera flashed and it started boot looping. It would sort of zap out in the middle of a reboot like there was a power issue and lot of other stuff was messed up including TWRP recovery! This tells me there is something else going on...more ROM related. Seems like all this started happening when these ICS ROMS dropped...none of them are as stable as Juggernaut, Paradox, etc...NONE of them. My power button does indeed seem defective, but it almost seems like it was a bi product of something else.

I was lucky enough to get flashed back to stock and have a warranty replacement on the way. Still has me wondering if something else wasn't up. Just seems like all the ICS based ROMs have been very buggy compared to the very stable Gingerbread builds. I sure enjoyed my rooted phone but this has been a PITA losing my device...it's my work and life! I haven't been stock in so long it will be interesting to click around a bit and see if I'm not better off stock. I'm due for an upgrade next month so I may well be on to an S3 or whatever else is out.
Just got my replacement this afternoon!!! Man...what a couple of days it's been without it! Holy crap, I had no idea.
Anyway the new phone shipped with 4.04. So that's cool. So far THIS is the most stable ICS rom I've used. :silly:

I had the SAME EXACT issue. I had to literally remove my power button because my device would reboot every few minutes. I use the volume keys to wake the device and sleep shortcut in the notification bar to sleep. If my device turns off, I have to turn it on with a USB, which is a major hassle but I've grown used to it.
I've had they Hercules for just over a year now but have only been using it for the past four months. I have only downloaded educational apps. However, yesterday i was not using it and came back to find it vibrating every 2-3 seconds. I removed the battery and left it out for an hour. When i replaced the battery, the phone began to reload but stopped during the boot, made a noise I've never heard before and began to vibrate as if going into recovery/download mode. I have been running ics for the past 4 months. The phone does not boot at all and is very frustrating . I have also tried charging it with no luck. Can anyone assist me with this problem??
sounds like you have the dreadful power button fail it gets a little jammed up try sticking a toothpick or something skinny in there and wiggle it a bit see if that works for you if not check if your still under warranty are you rooted or stock ICS?
u have a bad power button. try unsticking it.
Agreed. A friend had a similar issue and his power button was stuck.

Strange enough this just happened to me 10 minutes ago. I did manage to get the phone to boot after slapping the hell out if my power button which gave me the only means to get into recovery so now I can comment from experience. Ive been running pac for 3 weeks. Just yesterday my phone started doing really weird ****, dont know if it's just coincidence, calls would go through to random people, every time I clicked gallery I got a random reboot, I couldnt call voicemail, and trying to change wallpapers gave a reboot. Today I was changing a wallpaper and boom random reboot then began the loop and vibrating. A few things I noticed while this was happening, if I attempted to go into recovery the samsung splash screen appeared followed by the stock kernel splash( samsung and the blue bar at the bottom) which made me believe it wasnt the power button but indeed rom or kernel problem, also my led flashed once while going through the vibrate loop and I know the power button has nothing to do with that. I did manage to get pac to boot about 4 times by slapping the hell out of my power button but it went back to the loop after a few seconds so the next time I managed to get it to boot I held the power button and booted to recovery. Once I was able to get in to recovery I restored a liquid smooth back up. Ive powered the phone off and on with no problem. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens through out the day. I was running pac with cerux when this happened. I truly believe this is not a hardware problem at all until I get it again with another set up. If you need help I getting your phone to boot I could possibly be of assistance so pm me unless you want to keep getting responses from people who haven't experienced this at all. This was the single most scariest experience Ive had since I ve been flashing, even worse than my brick because I knew I bricked immediately.
my pone just F****D up!! i was using it like i do every day and all of a sudden it rebooted and i turned it back onj so it rebooted againg now now everytime i tr to turn it back on it reboots itself again and if i leve it on it turns itself on and reboots again so i have to leave the battery off in order for it to stay shut!! i tryed to do a full wipe but it didnt give me enought time to do it before it rebooted again.. i just got able to have enough time to do a full wipe and install a new rom but its still doing it even tho i put a new rom and did a full wipe..
is it the phone itself or is it s system failure???? help please i need proffesional advice...

Here's my response in one of the many other threads about this problem:
KaneHusky said:
This has become a common problem with our phones; do a search for "power button" and you'll find several threads reporting the same/similar problems. Some people seem to have managed to fix their issues by wiping the area with alcohol or re-flashing their recovery and/or ROM (I personally don't see how that could help a hardware issue, but whatever). In my case, as well as several others, the power button became permanently damaged, the phone was stuck in a vibrating bootloop and the only way to stop it was to take out the battery. I chose to have the power button replaced using the MobileTechVideos repair service. I wasn't 100% satisfied with their customer service, but the power button was replaced and my phone works fine now.

Hope that helps!
I read somewhere in the threads about people taking a toothpick and cleaning around the power button with that. I haven't ran into this issue myself but there were a few posts where the toothpick method was mentioned.
So, lets cut to the chase here.
Was playing around with my CM10.1 powered Galaxy W when it shutsdown by itself when its on sleep mode.
I tried switching it back on and it just shows the "Samsung" brand name in verry short seconds and then repeats from the start. How to fix this manually? Am i suppose to go for SSC???

If you didn't install any custom kernel/mod/system tweak, then from CWM recovery, you could try the "wipe data/ factory reset" option. See if it helps in any way. Although...from what you're saying...looks like you've got some custom stuff in there. For this case, I'm afraid your only way out is by making a pristine install of that ROM.

I only flashed MonsterV15 ROM after i pristined everrything. Also, I can't go to CWM properly as my phone keeps rebooting. Well, both sound like ROM issues to me now. But apparently at least one of them (the reboot issue) should be fixed. So head over to the dev thread. Looks like there is some new stuff in there. Also if the auto-turn-on thing when inserting the battery is not fixed too, you might as well report this in that thread.

Uhm, actually, the auto-turn-on issue & reboot issue thing happens when i insert the battery as well. Also, i can assure you that this ain't ROM issue. Previously, when i used OneOfAKind ROM, i switched SIM cards and then the auto-turn-on issue & reboot issue happened from there. I left my phone and battery apart for a day and then tried putting it backand BOOM it came back to life. So from there, hoping tht THANG won't happen again in my whole life, i pristined installed MonsterV15 and all went well when the THANG happened once more and i ended up heree .___.

Standard battery? Could you try with another (maybe stock) battery. Also...does it happen with any CM version?
This ain't software related....it's hardware related.....guaranteed.
It's a faulty power button.
The power button is behaving as if it were being continuously held in.
If you continually hold the power button on a normally booting W I bet you could replicate these exact symptoms. The results would be the same on insertion of the battery too.....
I answered an identical question a few weeks ago in this forum....and having done some research on the issue, I can tell you the only way you're going to fix it is take it to a service centre where they'll replace the entire main board......the power button is soldered directly to it.....
I'm guessing you can't successfully enter download mode either? So flashing back to stock beforehand isn't an option either....that shouldn't be a problem though.....if you can't get the phone to boot, they won't be able to either.....so they won't be able to tell what OS you're running. Even if they can, there's NO WAY they can argue that running a cusROM caused the power button to fail. Don't forget that the warrantee on Samsung phones is 2 years........

yea... I totally agree with keithross39. it's hardware related... Me and @hurtsky have this problem before too~ what i did is, insert the battery (and it will power on automatically). then spam the power button while it's booting... and it successfully booted (because the power button is not 'holding' anymore), you will see the reboot dialog pop out or screen turning on and off automatically. If you are lucky (like me) i fixed it myself by spamming the power button add don't press the power button anymore.... For now, I use the notificationbar's widget as screenoff, use terminal emulator to reboot or reboot recovery. I know that's weird, But I don't want to send it samsung because my phone is not original, it's AP

UPDATE: guys, i took my phone to a repair shop to yeknow' gauge the amt of money to repair the phone. In SG, the galaxy w secondhand costs $135 ! I bought it firsthand at $330! So, i'm guessin' if the amt to replace the mainboard is too high, i'd just buy tht secondhand phone ... -.-

My wife's s3 shut itself down a few days ago and now it's stuck in a boot loop. It was on rooted stock 4.1.
It will not fully boot into the system, trying to get into recovery will barely let you see the recovery screen before it cuts off, and getting into download mode will turn off after about 20 sec.
I'd love to be able to savage some things from the device, but I'm lost as to what I could try now.

Sounds like a faulty/stuck power button. A common thing these days. Open the device and play with the switch a little. Ive seen several people say this fixed it temporarily. Doesn't work for everyone though. If it is the button, the only permanent fix is to replace the part. Only a few bucks online and I dont believe its too difficult to do.
Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately it didn't help me. Took it apart, physical button actuates fine, switch underneath seems to click and return ok. Blew compressed air to be sure nothing's making it stick, button and switch. When I got it back together, except for actually having recovery load up for a few sec (once), it is behaving the same way.
Seeing as I have no soldering experience or equipment and we have already got my wife another device, I may just call it dead.
Thanks again for the help.

Sorry I cant be of better help for that. If you want to do a quick test though, just so you know for sure....
Take out the battery, then put it back in and wait a few moments. If it turns on by itself, its almost definitely a power switch gone bad.
