Great initiative. Just need more people to help report their battery life, as there seem to be quite some difference among some peeps.
Yea I know, I need to find some other tests, Any suggestions?
Not a suggestion, but a question : When you go to the *#*#4636#*#* menu, what is your battery voltage ?
Many report 4200 mV after 2.2 update, but I only get 3890. I know it's not much, but still...

Has by any chance anyone made such test under Eclair?
Btw I've noticed that if you use task killer you can save battery. Apparently there are some apps that even when closed keep eating battery. But I really have no proof of it (and have no time to conduct tests). Maybe someone can help me?
And I also suspect that Chrome to Phone eats battery if you don't press "disconnect" even when you don't have any Internet connection enabled. But that's another thing I can't prove.
brief tests - unconclusive, eh
I never thought that battery percentage is accurate enough to perform these kind of test, also didn't have much time to do it (so basically % never changed in 15 minutes timespans). Anyway:
* started at 21%
- Everything off (screen too)
- gmail push on
- good (3-4 bars) mobile connection on 3G
- no 3G data connection
- Wifi on - sleep policy -> always on
- Wifi router is about 1m far away from phone
15 minutes later
= still 21%
next --------
* started at 20%
- same as before but
- wifi off
- 3G data connection on - mobile data connection NOT always on
15 minutes later (19.43)
= still 20%
next --------
* started at 19%
- same as before but
- 3G data connection on - mobile data connection always on
- gmail push received a short email while testing
- hotmail checked mail as scheduled and downloaded 6 short emails
15 minutes later
= still 19%
Tests were started as soon as % showed the reported number.
By night, on airplane mode, it loses about 2% in 8 hours.
Can't really complain. By the way I'm still searching for a tool like WinMo BatLog. Anybody knows if it's feasable on android ?

I've been searching the market for a while but I couldn't find a tool that shows the power drain in Amps
Brightness
Airplane mode - Completely white screen
* Full brightness:
started at 17%
after 2 minutes = 16%
(brief pause to check, then back on white screen)
after 1 more minute = still 16%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 15%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 15%
Lost about 2.5% in 5 minutes
* Minimum brightness:
started at 13% (didn't wait for full step, probably was already close to 12%)
after 2 minutes = 12%
(brief pause to check, then back on white screen)
after 1 more minute = still 12%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = still 12%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 11%
Lost about 1.5% in 5 minutes
(kept going with low brightness)
after two more minutes = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
Apparently lost less than 1% in 5 minutes
Probably the % is not very accurate here anyway, or maybe at the beginning of low brightness test was still hot from the previous high brightness one.
after one more minute = 10%
time to plug it in, I'd say...

I've seen somewhere someone (eh) reporting that in /proc/somewhere there is a setting that can be read to do it. That is where my knowledge stops.

I have one battery at 3742 mV, however it's at 13% and charging.
The other battery, which is almost full and not charging, shows 4153 mV.
Don't know if it's affected by charging state.

Yep, the more juice you put in the battery the higher the voltage. So a more fully charged battery will have a higher voltage than a lower charged battery.
It goes from like 3.3v to 4.2v.

Erm, yes I've explained myself not very well... I meant that I didn't know if the fact that one was charging and the other not could impact the reading. I wanted to provide the approximate range of usage, since, if I'm not mistaken, the phone turns off when it reads 3.3v ?
EDIT: also on the same note, I think if I remember correctly, I've read that the % read is sometimes 'skewed' depending on how full the battery is. Like 1% battery at 100% lasts (for example) longer than at 50%. Am I awfully mistaken ?
Yeah, shutdown is usually around 3.2 or 3.3. It depends on the manufacturer. I think the batteries get damaged below 3.0v. Protection usually kicks in around 2.7v - 3.0v.
Not 100% sure, because I always mix up LiPo's and Li-Ion batteries
While charging the voltage will be a bit higher, and when you unplug it will go down a little bit.

Yeah indeed. The voltage drops much faster when 100% charged than 60%-70%. Also the reason why there seem to be so many issues with the wrong percentages shown .

Screen is set to the lowest setting using the powerbar, Also the screen was off at the time of doing the test, i.e if it was in your pocket.
During the screen test with the image, it was set to as bright as the power bar will allow

Right, so it's pointless to compare battery drain % at full level and at 1/4, for example. I've also read somewhere that battery temperature influences the reading, as well as reducing the efficiency of the battery itself.

If you really want ill get back and do it with the *#*#4636#*#* and give you 4 digit number from there
Wifi streaming + screen on
Tested music streaming with xiia
* first run with WiFi
- most stuff off, same as previous tests
- music channel was accujazz
- music through the speaker, half volume
- WiFi on
- Airplane mode on
- Screen on (forgot the timeout off)
Battery went from 92% to 88% in 15 minutes (4%)
* second run with 3G
- same as above
- no airplane mode
- 3G in place of WiFi
Battery went from 68% to 62% in 15 minutes (6%)
I've repeated the test and still it seemed that 3G consumed a bit more battery than WiFi (5% vs 4%), but this might be also due to the fact that the first test had no mobile connection on.

Hey guys,
It would be really nice if people start posting the battery life of their defy on CM7 any build.
Pls mention the build detail and how much do you use.
let me start.
i am getting around 2 days 10-15 hrs on a single charge..
i am using cm7 RC1v2
i listen to music for around 4 hrs, i msg frequently, i take pics, only 2G, wifi for an hour, no gps, no mobile data.
Lets try to keep this thread alive to help ppl who are trying CM7 and wants to know how much they should expect battery life.
Thank you
I m having the latest build july 1 and it charges only till 95............
2g is 6hrs
cm7 beta 6
around 30hs
2h listening to music
1.5h talking
30m gaming
30m web surfing
auto-brightness enabled
wifi/3g constantly on, wifi never sleeps
undervolted:
800/45, 600/30, 300/18
up threshold: 90%
vsel1 when screen is off
vsel2 when battery <20%
wow...that alot of info...thanks..really appreciated..
cmon guys...70+ views but only 2 replies??
I've noticed that if I am busy and I don't have time to play to much with Defy (using it mostly for his basic function = mobile phone) the battery can least over 4 days with moderate use (talk time around 40 minutes). I generally keep it on 2G network mode as the 3G coverage on my current carrier is not so god and I use the internet/data connection on Defy only on demand. The screenshot below was taken on CM7 beta 6.
1 hour usage can drain as much battery as 20 hours standby. So "battery life" can hardly be comparable even with slight difference in usage pattern. Maybe how long 1% battery can last on average is more comparable.
In my case 1% battery can standby 1~2 hours, or use (call, video, game...) 3~7 minutes. I was actually recording battery level/time with pen and paper but not by impression. And I don't notice big differences among roms, including orange, finland, noric, hk/tw, or cm7.
And I noticed that after using the 720p recording patch to record video (in other stock roms, not cm7), battery would be drained at 4% every hour standby.
3 hrs of GPS tracking, screen off, 3G always on:
100% to 70%
Hi !
With rooted froyo (the official one from Orange France), SetvSel to undervolt the proc (vsel3 : 52V @ 1000 MHz, lowering by 2V the others vsel), i could go for more than 26hrs with one charge.
Now with cm7 nightly from 01/06 n°0114 (which by the way works like a charm and was really easy to install even for a noob like me), no undervolting at all, 9hrs drained 35% of the battery (with a more intense use I must recognize), which leads to a little less than 26hrs.
I will try to undervolt it, but I definitely think I will get a better battery saving with cm7 !
It's terrible to see that with some little tweaks, cm7 moto defy beats the stock one.
I consider that I paid moto enough that they can provide these tweaks by default in their product, it doesnt cost much time (in my case less than an hour) and it benefits a lot.

wipe battery stats after flashing a ROM..read few post above to know how to do it..
turnoff wifi,3G,gps,bluetooth and mobile data when u r not using..these consume battery alot!
or else use apps like juicedefender or green battery app to do it automatically..
reduce screen brightness or keep it in auto brightness mode..it will save alot of battery
task killers might help..some people says..but i think it consumes more battery then it gives
avoid using live wallpaper..i know it looks gr8..but its not gud for ur battery
try these and report here..
All the best

report back here after few hrs and let us know if the display is still taking max battery or not
still not fixed..

but now the battery stats is changing again the position
current position of battery 76%

phone idle 24%
android system 11%
cell standby 9%
android OS 5%
etc

I found this phone takes longer to "settle down"
Using battery monitor widget (which might be inaccurate)
after deep sleep for a while (with wifi and sync everything, AOKP M3 + a few kernels)
the battery drain drops to -20ma ~ -35ma (which means ~40 minutes per 1% drain. It is higher than I expected btw)
then if there is a sms pop up or checking gmail for a sec
drain spikes to -100ma or so
and then drain goes from -100 to -35ma in an hour or so
it takes another hour or so to drop back to 20-ish
and if I leave the phone unplugged overnight for long deep sleep
battery drain *might* drop to 15~20ma range
i don't know if it's normal or not
my old EVO 4G deep-sleeps at -5 ~ -10ma and only takes a few minutes to go from -100 back to -10ma
Those mA are just guesses. Your old evo battery chip output mA readings. The GN does not, so that app just approximates based on some secret algorithm. They are basically meaningless.
Hi,
I have had this tablet (N5100) for a couple of weeks now and am wondering what the average battery drain for others/you is like?
Mine is draining around 1%/H when idle / sleep (screen off, wifi-on scheduled with juice defender, Mobile Data off, Cell Radio on) with little to no activity.
so after my 4-5 hour sleep it's down by 5-6 %. is it normal, too high/ too low?
my other device samsung galaxy player YP-G70 has much better results, but then that is a totally different hardware altogether!.
Thanks.
1%/h would translate into avg current of 46mA, which is not bad, any higher value would be a reason to investigate. On my device, after some tweaking the standby current as estimated by the Battery Monitor Widget is between 10-40 mA.
Anyway, if you want to find the apps eating your battery during standby, check the better battery stats thread.

Hi,
I have done a few tests of my own.
Overnight my battery drain is 1%(about 9/11 hrs )
I further ran a test in standby for over 24 hrs and
battery drain was only 6%.(from 100% down to 94% )
Good luck
Just want to add ,i get like 2mA in standby,
Also the 6 % drain (in 25 hrs plus some min.)
Include my twitter updates ,weather, market apps update, etc once or so .data off there after.

I guess i'll have to go on some app shooting spree and see what i end up with.
As of now i have put google currents to sync only while charging and disabled google now and some location stuff in google maps and that seems to have improved things some bit already.
bad or good battery
I play samsung note 8 without screen off , and screen on just 4 hour
i think note 8 only survive 1%/5 minute
If play 1% just only 2 minute
RE: Idle Battery life - Solutions?
Hello,
I've been using my Nexus 7 very little this week. But since I stopped charging my current battery stats read:
1 day 11 hours and 57 minutes on battery.
Tablet Idle (39%) for 1 day 11 hours and 26 minutes.
Aside from that I've had 25 minutes screen time and 20 mins Wi-Fi use.
I'm currently on 71% Battery. Does this seem like normal battery usage? I would have thought the idle tablet could keep it's battery better than this.
Any tips/thoughts on if this is normal?
Thanks

Make sure Wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth are off. They drain the battery quite nicely. Another tip is turning off auto-syncing for Gmail, etc if you plan to keep the tablet in sleep. Other than that, the usage seems within normal range, maybe a bit over.
Then again, why not just turn it off? It takes about 10 seconds to power up...
