Hey guys,
It would be really nice if people start posting the battery life of their defy on CM7 any build.
Pls mention the build detail and how much do you use.
let me start.
i am getting around 2 days 10-15 hrs on a single charge..
i am using cm7 RC1v2
i listen to music for around 4 hrs, i msg frequently, i take pics, only 2G, wifi for an hour, no gps, no mobile data.
Lets try to keep this thread alive to help ppl who are trying CM7 and wants to know how much they should expect battery life.
Thank you
I m having the latest build july 1 and it charges only till 95............
2g is 6hrs
cm7 beta 6
around 30hs
2h listening to music
1.5h talking
30m gaming
30m web surfing
auto-brightness enabled
wifi/3g constantly on, wifi never sleeps
undervolted:
800/45, 600/30, 300/18
up threshold: 90%
vsel1 when screen is off
vsel2 when battery <20%
wow...that alot of info...thanks..really appreciated..
cmon guys...70+ views but only 2 replies??
I've noticed that if I am busy and I don't have time to play to much with Defy (using it mostly for his basic function = mobile phone) the battery can least over 4 days with moderate use (talk time around 40 minutes). I generally keep it on 2G network mode as the 3G coverage on my current carrier is not so god and I use the internet/data connection on Defy only on demand. The screenshot below was taken on CM7 beta 6.
1 hour usage can drain as much battery as 20 hours standby. So "battery life" can hardly be comparable even with slight difference in usage pattern. Maybe how long 1% battery can last on average is more comparable.
In my case 1% battery can standby 1~2 hours, or use (call, video, game...) 3~7 minutes. I was actually recording battery level/time with pen and paper but not by impression. And I don't notice big differences among roms, including orange, finland, noric, hk/tw, or cm7.
And I noticed that after using the 720p recording patch to record video (in other stock roms, not cm7), battery would be drained at 4% every hour standby.
3 hrs of GPS tracking, screen off, 3G always on:
100% to 70%
Hi !
With rooted froyo (the official one from Orange France), SetvSel to undervolt the proc (vsel3 : 52V @ 1000 MHz, lowering by 2V the others vsel), i could go for more than 26hrs with one charge.
Now with cm7 nightly from 01/06 n°0114 (which by the way works like a charm and was really easy to install even for a noob like me), no undervolting at all, 9hrs drained 35% of the battery (with a more intense use I must recognize), which leads to a little less than 26hrs.
I will try to undervolt it, but I definitely think I will get a better battery saving with cm7 !
It's terrible to see that with some little tweaks, cm7 moto defy beats the stock one.
I consider that I paid moto enough that they can provide these tweaks by default in their product, it doesnt cost much time (in my case less than an hour) and it benefits a lot.

did u wipe battery stats?
if not then do it! download battery calibration app from market and use it.
u can also do it manually in custom recovery..

wipe battery stats after flashing a ROM..read few post above to know how to do it..
turnoff wifi,3G,gps,bluetooth and mobile data when u r not using..these consume battery alot!
or else use apps like juicedefender or green battery app to do it automatically..
reduce screen brightness or keep it in auto brightness mode..it will save alot of battery
task killers might help..some people says..but i think it consumes more battery then it gives
avoid using live wallpaper..i know it looks gr8..but its not gud for ur battery
try these and report here..
All the best

Not a suggestion, but a question : When you go to the *#*#4636#*#* menu, what is your battery voltage ?
Many report 4200 mV after 2.2 update, but I only get 3890. I know it's not much, but still...

Has by any chance anyone made such test under Eclair?
Btw I've noticed that if you use task killer you can save battery. Apparently there are some apps that even when closed keep eating battery. But I really have no proof of it (and have no time to conduct tests). Maybe someone can help me?
And I also suspect that Chrome to Phone eats battery if you don't press "disconnect" even when you don't have any Internet connection enabled. But that's another thing I can't prove.
brief tests - unconclusive, eh
I never thought that battery percentage is accurate enough to perform these kind of test, also didn't have much time to do it (so basically % never changed in 15 minutes timespans). Anyway:
* started at 21%
- Everything off (screen too)
- gmail push on
- good (3-4 bars) mobile connection on 3G
- no 3G data connection
- Wifi on - sleep policy -> always on
- Wifi router is about 1m far away from phone
15 minutes later
= still 21%
next --------
* started at 20%
- same as before but
- wifi off
- 3G data connection on - mobile data connection NOT always on
15 minutes later (19.43)
= still 20%
next --------
* started at 19%
- same as before but
- 3G data connection on - mobile data connection always on
- gmail push received a short email while testing
- hotmail checked mail as scheduled and downloaded 6 short emails
15 minutes later
= still 19%
Tests were started as soon as % showed the reported number.
By night, on airplane mode, it loses about 2% in 8 hours.
Can't really complain. By the way I'm still searching for a tool like WinMo BatLog. Anybody knows if it's feasable on android ?

I've been searching the market for a while but I couldn't find a tool that shows the power drain in Amps
Brightness
Airplane mode - Completely white screen
* Full brightness:
started at 17%
after 2 minutes = 16%
(brief pause to check, then back on white screen)
after 1 more minute = still 16%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 15%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 15%
Lost about 2.5% in 5 minutes
* Minimum brightness:
started at 13% (didn't wait for full step, probably was already close to 12%)
after 2 minutes = 12%
(brief pause to check, then back on white screen)
after 1 more minute = still 12%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = still 12%
(brief pause to check)
after 1 more minute = 11%
Lost about 1.5% in 5 minutes
(kept going with low brightness)
after two more minutes = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
after one more minute = still 11%
Apparently lost less than 1% in 5 minutes
Probably the % is not very accurate here anyway, or maybe at the beginning of low brightness test was still hot from the previous high brightness one.
after one more minute = 10%
time to plug it in, I'd say...

Yep, the more juice you put in the battery the higher the voltage. So a more fully charged battery will have a higher voltage than a lower charged battery.
It goes from like 3.3v to 4.2v.

Erm, yes I've explained myself not very well... I meant that I didn't know if the fact that one was charging and the other not could impact the reading. I wanted to provide the approximate range of usage, since, if I'm not mistaken, the phone turns off when it reads 3.3v ?
EDIT: also on the same note, I think if I remember correctly, I've read that the % read is sometimes 'skewed' depending on how full the battery is. Like 1% battery at 100% lasts (for example) longer than at 50%. Am I awfully mistaken ?
Yeah, shutdown is usually around 3.2 or 3.3. It depends on the manufacturer. I think the batteries get damaged below 3.0v. Protection usually kicks in around 2.7v - 3.0v.
Not 100% sure, because I always mix up LiPo's and Li-Ion batteries
While charging the voltage will be a bit higher, and when you unplug it will go down a little bit.

Yeah indeed. The voltage drops much faster when 100% charged than 60%-70%. Also the reason why there seem to be so many issues with the wrong percentages shown .

Right, so it's pointless to compare battery drain % at full level and at 1/4, for example. I've also read somewhere that battery temperature influences the reading, as well as reducing the efficiency of the battery itself.

If you really want ill get back and do it with the *#*#4636#*#* and give you 4 digit number from there
Wifi streaming + screen on
Tested music streaming with xiia
* first run with WiFi
- most stuff off, same as previous tests
- music channel was accujazz
- music through the speaker, half volume
- WiFi on
- Airplane mode on
- Screen on (forgot the timeout off)
Battery went from 92% to 88% in 15 minutes (4%)
* second run with 3G
- same as above
- no airplane mode
- 3G in place of WiFi
Battery went from 68% to 62% in 15 minutes (6%)
I've repeated the test and still it seemed that 3G consumed a bit more battery than WiFi (5% vs 4%), but this might be also due to the fact that the first test had no mobile connection on.

Do I feel stupid now not having ever used that as a reference for testing
Hi everyone.
I don't see anyone feeling bad about battery nowadays with new update. I dont see any improvement in mine :O
I need some informations from you, can you tell me voltage phone reaches when it turns off by itself? Its very strange when mine reaches around 40-50% voltage goes down very fast and it turns off around 3.2v...
Who's with good battery?
Tell me,
*phone time on battery
*display on time
*wifi time on
i feel like mine is not good i dont know the reason why.. my friend gets 7 hours of browsing(7hrs display on), and i get around 4... it cant last 5 hours with display on.
-- 30 % brightness, bravia off, sync off, auto rotation on --
I saw on internet some reviews 2 days of heavy use :O how?
I tried wiping batt. stats, and gonna try again after system creates batterystats.bin
i did it twice, but slight improvement...
regards
hope this isnt spam for you.
Hi
I have voted 8-9 hours for casual use at low display brightness 20-30%. Auto brightness is allways activated and using it in a fairly light room might increase your display brightness without you noticing this. Could this be the reason you are experiencing such high battery drain with display on?
Heavy gaming:
3D games like order and chaos and dungeon defender that utilize the Andreno consumes up to 30% per hour, that leaves 3 hours of use. Battery history show an allmost 50/50 between display power usage and the game process power usage. Buildin speaker also consumes allot of power.
FPSE that to my knowledge do not use the GPU but utilizes the CPU 100% consumes around 20% per hour leaving 4-5hours gaming.
Light gaming and casual use.
My daughters using drawing programs, playing angry birds or other light weight kids games plus some webbrowsing and email reading consumes about 12-15% per hour leaving 8-9 hours of use with dispaly on.
If you add speech calls on 3G your times will decrease significantly, this is consuming 20-30% of battery per hour depending on signal strengt. This is my personal observations.
Bravia is allways activated and I thought this was only used when watching movies or looking at pictures in the gallery?
It is interesting to read the SE support app installed and the SE recommendations to improve battery live. They mention that if your display is at max brightness it will not make any noticeable difference if you have bluetooth, wifi, data, sync etc turned on as the screen is consuming sooo much power at max they also recommend to use earphones instead of speaker to improve battery consumption. The rest of the recommendations are well known as to turn everything not needed off. The recommendation I like the most is a daily reboot to improve system performance
I like your review.. I got the same result with 3d gaming... 3 hours, but i never had 8-9 hours even with light usage.. Not playing 3d games..

I began to suspect it's from the battery it self, I reversed to the old firmware .145 the battery was the same, never completes a whole day, 19 hours maximum.
I think its battery too... I bought mine with world generic, and flashed uk generic, its same for me... Has anyone thought that somewhere in system is set battery capacity is example 900, i have read it on this forum in x8... So how to investigate it, my battery dies always ~4 hours display... It went once 2 days, and display time of course 4 hours.

Haha, a nice way of testing it, keeping it running while sleeping :-D 5-6 hours is probably more normal than 8-9 hours, that was when my daughters was using it with a kids drawing program at low light settings, it was not consuming much cpu at no sound was used.
I have bought order and chaos but had shortly installed a cracked version as there were some problems with android marked at the time. I paid for the game but it would not start the download, contacted their support and found a cracked version while waiting for them to fix it ;-)

The batterys voltage will drop allot from 100% to 90% and the voltage decrease will slow down as you are getting closer to 0%. I would guess 3,65 is close to 0%.
The battery % is not calculated from the voltage level but from an internal register in the battery chip that decreases with a value calculated by the battery chip from the exact amount of power used. The battery chip can measure precisly how much power is running to and from the battery.
The android calibration can change this register for example when the battery is getting close to a pre configured safe voltage level, could be 3,65v. It would then reset the register to 0 and the same goes when charging the phone.
If the register show you can have max 5000 units and you are charging the battery and reaches 95% and 4500 units while the voltage show 4,2 which is full, it would then update the register to have 4500 as max level and start to decrese this as power is draining from the battery. If you have 10% left and 450 in the register with voltage at 3,65 it will presume this to be empty and the register would be changed to 0 and battery indicator to 0%. The next charge to 100% should end up at 4150 which would match the exact capacity available for the phone.
The battery will over time slowly degenerate and its capacity will slowly decrease which is one of the reasons the calibration is needed to allways have it show correct battery levels.
The battery is actually not empty at 3,65 but draining it even further will drop the voltage and make the phone crash.
I hope my above explanation makes senses. Had earlier updated and compiled an android kernel battery driver for the old xperia x1 phone. I presume the mechanism for the battery driver in Xperia Arc is the same.

If you have 10% left and 100 in the register with voltage at 3,65 it will presume this to be empty and the register would be changed to 0 and battery indicator to 0%. The next charge to 100% should end up at 4850 which would match the exact capacity available for the phone.

Interesting, the old xperia x1 could not handle levels below 3,65 6i
I charged my HTC ONE X to 100%, took it out of the charger and I have now been 1h 37m 46s on battery, and it ALREADY has drained to 70% !!!
what my phone uses or so it says :
screen 78%
cell standby 6%
android OS 5%
android system 4%
phone idle 4%
whatsapp 3%
what does it mean 78% screen? that my screen is the big killer for my drain? because that would make non sense since I have not had it on that much..and still.....30% in 1.3hours? that's just insanely bad!
stock rom from Holland btw...didn't change a single thing to my phone since I do not know how....
any input on why it drains so rapidly?
thanks!
I would post a screenshot but I don't have ''root'' access'' or something lol sorry!

firstly you can take a screenshot by pressing power button and home button at
the same time..
how old is the phone?
you are ok bro. for me it drained 17% with 15 minutes screen on time.
this is one big lol.
i am struggling to get 7 hours battery life
If you don't mind the effects on warranty, there are some system mods things that can be done to improve battery life...
Otherwise try turning off extra wireless services, and lowering the brightness on your screen.
I was getting 8-9 hours outa my battery, since rooted and flashed leedroid's rom and I got 26 hours with 30% to go....
what a difference.....
Basically in android, especially LCD screens, you can expect under 3 hours of continual screen use in daily activities. Often way under.
I've gone through a Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S and Nexus S, HTC Sensation and now One X. None of them broke the three hour mark for screen on time.
Standby and other use, sure, you can push a day or so but the screen is the major killer. Even with 1900mAh after-market batteries for the Sensation I was just about pushing 2.x hours. Screen usually on auto, but often inside buildings.
Counter to what may seem obvious is that if you have WiFi available - use it. It uses less power than the data connection on cellular networks and can improve standby time by a fair bit. Assuming you use push notifications and the like.

is rooting hard? i searched it on the internet but the only thing i found was some half-assed english site trying to explain what to do...couldn't follow it, and also it didn't work :/
I don't know all the terms etc they use so that makes it quite a fair bit harder for me!
Two Questions:
- What are your Brightness settings?
(Settings - Display & gestures - Brightness)
- Do you have Wifi/3G constantly on?
(Settings - Wireless & networks: is Wi-Fi and/or Mobile network: ON?)
How to improve Battery drain:
- Go to: Settings - Display & gestures - Brightness:
and untick: Automatic brightness
with your finger slide the brightness level to much lower than it is now (I have it at only 1/4)
confirm with: OK
- Whenever you do not need to be online (internet), make sure to switch off Wi-Fi and Mobile network
- Switch off notifications for e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Email (you need to open each app and in the Menu have to untick notifications)
From personal experience, I can tell you that having internet on constantly aka WhatsApp sending notifications for each chat message, Facebook and Email sending notifications, ... costs you a lot of battery
Brightness at full level also drains battery badly.
- Following above-mentioned tips, you will get a standby time on the HTC One X of up to 2 full days.
Hope I could help a bit.

You need to get on leedroid Currently on 71% battery also, but slight difference in how i got there:
16hrs standby
half hour screen on (auto brightness)
5 mins calls,
3g/wifi/locations always on.
Very light usage day for me, but it's very different results to yours
M.
edited for clarity/typos
who would you have your phone on standby for 16hours....I used it more than half an hour a day (half hour screen on as you said) so that says nothing for me lol
and my screen has low brightness but that doesn't really seem to effect it THAT much, but yesn i do have 3d on constantly aswel as fb whatsapp etc...but I do need to be in contact with people so I guess there nothing to fix :/ except maybe a ligh rom but i have no idea how that works haha, might search youtube
I have the same problem but i'm actually using the phone.
As a heavy user (and i mean heavy user) i've yet to get more than 3 hours on screen time with this. once i used it for only 2hours 20 mins and the battery was dead. I'm rooted running leedroid and the battery life is very bad for onscreen time.
Anyone else getting these figures.
hi guys..
i am on stock rom updated to latest but having problems with my battery
take a look at the screenshot. i currently have 30% battery.
as you can see from almost 11 hours of my latest charge 9hours and 20 mins
my phone was at deep sleep.(only 1hour and 40 mins of light usage)
when its locked it shows excelent battery (1% per hour) but after an hour passes and even if i just unlock it and browse a bit my phone ,i lose 5-6% .
my phone is 4days old only.
maybe the problem is just temporary?
thnx in advance for any help.
I'm using an App called 'Screen Adjuster', in which you can set the screen brightness (say 50%), and then auto adjust brightness within the selected range (50% range).
You can adjust the brightness anytime, I found it is very handy because the original auto brightness is simply too bright.
One drawback is that you can click to install 3rd party apk with this App running, don't know why, but just for your reference.
This is what i get.
With surfing a little bit gaming and chatting.
Hi,
I have had this tablet (N5100) for a couple of weeks now and am wondering what the average battery drain for others/you is like?
Mine is draining around 1%/H when idle / sleep (screen off, wifi-on scheduled with juice defender, Mobile Data off, Cell Radio on) with little to no activity.
so after my 4-5 hour sleep it's down by 5-6 %. is it normal, too high/ too low?
my other device samsung galaxy player YP-G70 has much better results, but then that is a totally different hardware altogether!.
Thanks.
1%/h would translate into avg current of 46mA, which is not bad, any higher value would be a reason to investigate. On my device, after some tweaking the standby current as estimated by the Battery Monitor Widget is between 10-40 mA.
Anyway, if you want to find the apps eating your battery during standby, check the better battery stats thread.

Hi,
I have done a few tests of my own.
Overnight my battery drain is 1%(about 9/11 hrs )
I further ran a test in standby for over 24 hrs and
battery drain was only 6%.(from 100% down to 94% )
Good luck
Just want to add ,i get like 2mA in standby,
Also the 6 % drain (in 25 hrs plus some min.)
Include my twitter updates ,weather, market apps update, etc once or so .data off there after.

wow, that's a little depressing! haha
I guess i'll have to go on some app shooting spree and see what i end up with.
As of now i have put google currents to sync only while charging and disabled google now and some location stuff in google maps and that seems to have improved things some bit already.
bad or good battery
I play samsung note 8 without screen off , and screen on just 4 hour
i think note 8 only survive 1%/5 minute
If play 1% just only 2 minute
When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Sony Xperia XZ Premium's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
damn no reviews for this lol im just here letting you guys know that the standby battery is amazing went to sleep yesterday at 12am with 69% of battery woke up today at 7:30am with 67% damn my old lg v20 couldnt do that lol
It's quite bad here with standby drain as well. "Phone Idle" is always on top of the battery usage apps and it's probably a few percent an hour, depending on charge of course. >90% it's 1-2% an hour, but that increases when the charge level drops.
Stock .145 rom with storm//'s hack and have greenify running
Standby drain 0,2-0,4 %/h. locked BL, .145, Greenify.
phone idle coming top 3 with 6% took from 100% in about 4 hours! what could be causing that??
phone idle 4:11 hours
screen time 1:50 hours
36minutes of sniper 3d
7minutes playtube player while screen on (plus 20 minutes screen off)
I am on 57% just after 4 hours of use! while only 1:50 hours of them screen on!
phone idle for 4:11 hours took 6% which is a ratio of (1.5% per hour)
not good at all, what could be the problem??
I tried draining to 0 then charge to 100 on a straight charge while phone is off, phone is factory resetted, locked, not rooted, stock rom .119 oreo
what else can I do here?

I don't know but I have the same issue for months... Usually 2,4-2,8% per hour (when screen off!!) and battery stats not showing anything relevant.
I have everything stock, and I am using Greenify since a ~week, now I have 1,5%-1,8% on standby (which is still a lot, but improved compared to the previous situation).
Is really bad because if I detach my phone at 7 in the morning, at 14 I am already at ~80% without doing nothing! That's also means that using it, specially a lot with maps or things like that, I am not able to go farest than 17-21 :crying:

i noticed that factory reset didnt work for me, neither does software repair
so what I did was, flashed .179 firmware, fresh flashing, wiped every thing!
battery life was almost still the same, it got a lil better.
BUT, I am now using stamina mode any time I dont use the phone much, in my pocket, or even if im slightly using it (whatsapp, instagram etc...), I only turn it off when im gaming or watching some thing which is getting me to lose 1% every 4-6 minutes when using the device, and not losing anything when the device is off (as I activate the stamina mode) this should get me around 6:30-8:00 hours of screen time!
also I noticed I had viberation on navigation buttons, I also had face detection unlock and "ok google" unlock, and google feed and a lot of widgets and a live wallpaper, and avg running in the background.
so I disabled all of these useless features as I really dont use any of them (maybe rarely) and i can feel a slight improvement. (still slight improvement over slight improvement makes a noticeably improvement)
so now I unplugged my device at 17:00 at 90% more or less and now its 22:07 and i still got 56% so in about 5 hours I lost 34% while 2:14 hours, screen was on so its very impressive!
I can get to 6:45 hours of screen use which is very very good! im still testing though.
Nah i know its too late to write this but,.
For you all who have a problem draining battery even at sleep try Greenify Donation Package + Powernap xposed module
Even now my xzp still have sot around 6 hours with 15% battery left. With everything enabled like x-reality, auto brightness, mobile data.
Btw i'm using existenz v10 cusrom + DT2W Kernel
