HTC One M9 - 3.35.401.12 RUU installer how to guide! - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to make a small guide how to return your HTC one m9 to stock with RUU exe installer. The steps are pretty simple so please follow them. Please note that this is only for WWE international models. Same procedure can be done for other regions, however, the files are different. Doing this, you will also get a latest Marshmallow and 3.35.401.12 update! This will save you of hassle to copy and flash your phone several times over to get it done, this procedure does all that. You will not even need to open a command prompt.
Before you do this procedure backup yours files somewhere safe. This will wipe everything you have on the phone to stock settings. This will also unroot your device and remove custom recovery if you had any.
Follow this guide step by step. Do not open / run anything if I haven't said so.
1. For sake of being organized make a new folder on your desktop called "RUU" and make sure your phone has more than 30% battery otherwise RUU procedure wont work.
2. Download HTC sync manager from here and install it (this can help if RUU installer starts derping with USB connections etc : http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
3. Download the RUU exe from here and put it in the RUU folder you created on the desktop: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952597788
4. Download the rom.zip file from here and put it in the RUU folder on your desktop. File name needs to be rom.zip
5. Navigate to TEMP folder by typing %temp% in the search bar. If you can't find the temp folder this way then simply navigate to: C:\Users\PCname\AppData\Local\Temp
6. Select all folders you see there and delete them. If you get a file in use or skip message then please do so.
7. Go back to the RUU folder we created earlier and run the RUU exe file from step 3 as an admin. Give it a little time to load and once you are here don't press on next.
8. Copy rom.zip file from RUU folder and navigate to %temp% folder. Paste rom.zip file here: http://prntscr.com/a5gwae
9. Once copying is finished go back to the RUU exe window from step 7 and start clicking next until it prompts you to update. Click on update to 3.35.401.12.
10. During this procedure the phone will go on and off for a few times and after several minutes it will give the message that procedure has been finished successfully.
- Please note that all files are official. Hope this little guide helped you.

TnQ so much man. I was searching for this RUU for a while but couldn't find it. I'm gonna test it tomorrow. BTW i have an unlocked bootloader and s-on, do i need to relock bootloader before installing RUU?

No, you don't have to.

Or just rename the rom.zip to 0PJAIMG.zip copy to the sd card root, after that power off the phone hold vol- and power select download mode and follow the instructions on the screen.
BTW thx for the rom

why is this not stickied?

Please I need marshmallow RUU for hima_uhl my camera and flashlight stopped working only flashing RUU will fix it

Quick question guys, running marshmallow 6, 3.39.531.7, I want to roll back to Android 5.0.2, 1.32.531.33. Is this possible via this method? Phone is not rooted and s-on? T-Mobile is the carrier

Downgrades are not possible as long as you are S-ON. You need S-OFF to do this.
Send by the swarm intelligence of my coffee machine ?.

Ok so I could flash the same firmware via this method so long as the ruu matches? Unless of course I could s-off then s-on before sending the phone back in.

Please don't post more or less the same question in several threads. It's considered as rude behaviour on xda.
An xda search for "demo" would have been enough for finding this thread. If you read the whole thread you'll learn everything about the problems that arise with the latest firmware and the Demo-CID HTC__002.

[Q] RUU restore for warranty fails: error 140. Anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

Sorry mate, is there a way to change section?
jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

Thanks for replay.
I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..
Just beware of flames coming your way lol

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

Sorry guys I got an other problem...
Now this is the second time I bring it to assistence (last time was for vol down) and when they give it back to me it was updated to froyo.
I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?
Many thanks.

HTC Desire Bravo Back to Stock only using a SDcard

I've brought back my rooted (S-off) HTC Desire Bravo with a custom recovery
(4EXT)
and a custom Rom (RunnymedeAIO)
back to stock Software-number 3.14.405.1 by only using my SDcard.
I've used the Aplharev downgrader and the HTC RUU 2.3.3. Europe GSM.
I found all information I needed in Bortak's Troubleshooting Guide. Thanks :good:
#1
Check your battery or hook up your adapter! It all takes about 15 minutes.
I downgraded my HBoot by copying the dowgrader in the root of my SDcard and renamed it PB99IMG,
I installed it directly in the bootloader [volume-down + power button] and select 'Yes' in HBoot-menu when asked to start update?
And 'Yes' again to confirm reboot the device.
#2
Then I copied the extracted RUU (= a extracted rom.zip from HTC's RUU) so it could be used directly in the root of my SDcard by renaming it to PB99IMG
(remove or rename the previous PB99IMG) and I installed it again in the bootloader [volume-down + power button] and select 'Yes' in HBoot-menu when asked to start update?
(During the process the device will reboot once and will continue the update, just wait and follow the status onscreen)
Then select 'Yes' again to confirm reboot the device. Watch the magic work. :fingers-crossed:
All my data was erased and my phone was (S-on) like it came fresh from the store!!:fingers-crossed:
HBoot -1.02.0001
RADIO 5.17.05.23
SWnr.3.14.405.1
If you need more information or need more options just check Bortak's Troubleshooting Guide. Thanks :good:
Please send me your comments or ideas to help me and other Desire users, thanks.
If you want to make a real guide, you should give a bit more details.
Although this is a method the majority know, many won't know how to install a PB99IMG.zip file, nor how to extract the rom.zip from a RUU. Explain the whole process for both.
If you're gonna do something, do it properly.
Thanks OP

I agree the OP could have provided more information (or links to the guide).
I however found this post extremely useful if only beacuse it was the first place I found where I could actually get the file I needed on my rubbish internet connection.
So thanks a lot OP, you fixed my phone.

Hi abaaaabbbb63,
I tried to keep this as simple as possible because I am just an enthusiast who wants to help others HTC Bravo users (with no experience at all or less),
to get back to stock in a simple way. I hope it will do just that.
I added some extra information as requested and hope to please you to.

A CLARIFICATION before error!
Hi guys,
At the risk of appearing pretty stupid (fine by me!! ) rather than making a fatal error, would you mind guiding me through the following:
My HTC Desire BRAVO is currently S-OFF and has a CUSTOM ROM installed (Oxygen). Runs beautifully. The original 0.93 HBOOT was replaced using AlphaRev to current 6.93 in order to install OXYGEN ROM.
I need to hand this phone on to a friend and so would like to return it to stock: either to HTC factory stock or to its original TELSTRA Australia stock. REASON? simply to make it a clean stock standard unit ready for his use. There is no matter of returning it to stock for warranty purposes.
Question: Do I need to DOWNGRADE the bootloader first to theoriginal v.HBOOT 0.93 before running the stock RUU? or
BECAUSE it is already S-OFF, can I simply copy the Telstra RUU or HTC RUU (.exe file) to the external ext4 SD card and then access and run it through BOOT menu.(Clockwork - Revolutionary etc.)
What would you advise on this - plus any additional thoughts you may have!
Heaps of thanks in anticipation!

[Q] Dev Edition stuck on installing 5.0

Hi,
I´ve had a problem for about a month now. I always look for the solution before even thinking about creating a new thread, but this time I´m stumped, I really don´t know what to do. I have a HTC One M8 Developer Unlocked edition; I bought it off of Amazon. A few months ago I rooted it because I wanted to use Pushbullet. After a few tries I got it working with TWRP.
A few weeks ago I learned that Lollipop was being released and I wanted to upgrade my phone, unfortunately you can´t get it unless the phone is unrooted, so I tried that. I followed theunlockr guide "How to unroot the htc one m8" up to the point of switching S-ON.
After that I tried to upgrade to Lollipop, it didn´t work. The phone would get stuck in the installing screen, and then a red triangle with an exclamation mark would appear. This has happened every single time I tried to install the upgrade.
After that I tried to reset to factory using RUU, but I couldn´t do it. I got the error 150… Now I have a supposedly stock ROM but I can´t install Lollipop… Can you help me? This whole story comes to this.. How can I revert my M8 back to stock so I can get Lollipop?
Right now it has S-ON, if that helps.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English, it´s not my native language.
1. There is no need to change S-Off to S-On
2. There is no need to unroot when you're not sure how-to
3. When the phone get stuck in the installing screen, and then a red triangle with an exclamation mark appear, press and hold volume up and tap power button once, it will give you the error log then you'll know what are the problems that stopping the update
4. When you use a RUU when S-On, you need to relock bootloader before you run RUU

You need Dev Edition stock recovery.
If you can't find one, copy the OTA zip from internal storage/Download folder to PC. Open the OTA zip with 7-zip, open firmware.zip, extract out recovery.img
This recovery.img is what you need.
Or try this one : http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/Recovery/3.28.1540.5_recovery.img/download

I guess some of the system files are not pure stock.
The easiest way is run RUU.
1. Download Dev Ed RUU : http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...G_20.68.4196.01_F_release_411207_signed_2.exe
2. RUU will wipe all in internal storage. Make a backup of your files before you run RUU
3. Put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode
4. If your device is S-On
a-relock bootloader - fastboot oem lock
b-run RUU (select run as administrator in your windows explorer context menu)
5. If your device is S-Off - run RUU (select run as administrator in your windows explorer context menu)

It worked, after I ran the RUU it automatically installed Lollipop. I can't thank you enough, really. One last thing before I stop bothering you, for future reference, how can I check the version of my software, how can I know if I have the BrightstarUS, instead of the EU version?
Anyway, the last thing is not that important. I really thank you!

Great :good::good:
How to know ? Simple
Check the OS no. written on bootloader or run command fastboot getvar all
You'll see the version-main no.
x.xx.401.x is EU
x.xx.1540.x is Dev Ed (BrightstarUS)

Hi,
I think you have to s-off your device with sunshine after that you can
downgrade to 1.01.352.25.2 and take the ota again (if you want).
It costs 25$ bucks but it's worth it... for sure better than a not booting device ..IMHO
Ok but how I can apply sunchine without system? It's possible to apply it over fastboot?
I also mail HTC to get the rom but they give me link for TMO and this one are Family plan model...
Thanks for the reply

Your Issue so is easy to fix d{-_-}b
Your first mistake was to mess with your phone without doing a proper FULL BACK backup, that's like Step 1 from any guide. step 0 unlock boot loader, step 1 do full system back up.
Second, find the images from HTC website, your second mistake is not telling people what carrier you need the images for. If your having issue finding them your first go to should've been HTC chat support and not xda, just ask them to help you find the right one, if you still cant find it most likely there are other devices out there that share the same firmware like Tmo, Metro and fam mobile which any of those system images should work with each other (not saying yours do because again, I don't know what you have /: ).
Third, if TWRP and the HTC recovery wizard are giving you a hard time extract boot, system and recovery then just Push them through adb (Hundreds of how to's out there)
Thanks for your answer dear...
Yes I make a mistake when I don't backup before mess up because always I have the official support to ruu back to stock and kill my problem but this time it's different.
I contact HTC support and they suggest flash TMO ruu but my desire 530 are https://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Family-Mobile-HTC-Desire-530-Smartphone/51671356 like I said on the first line of my description.
The funny part are, the latest ruu available on HTC download page are previous of the ota available for this phone so the locked S-ON state won't allow me to downgrade or flash any image over trwp.
If any user of desire 530 family mobile with the latest OTA can upload he's images I will appreciate.
I literally just told you how to fix it d{-_-}b
I'll Make it super simple for you JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS don't question it just do.
LIke the HTC rep told you and like i told you fam mobile and tmobile share the same firmware SO USE THAT ROM!
STEP 1 Go here: www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-530-t-mobile/news/ Download the 1.3GB RUU.exe located at the bottom
STEP 2 On your phone go to DOWNLOAD MODE and connect phone (make sure phone is detected properly)
STEP 3 Double click the RUU.exe hit accept next ->> next ->> until you see a progress bar hit 100% and your phone starts.
THATS IT!!!!!
Things to keep in mind:
- You need to have HTC sync installed for drivers, your phone needs to be charged!
- if the RUU.exe says fail or gives you an error just keep repeating STEP 3 until that progress bar hits 100% I had to do it 3 times, some people had repeat the process 10 times HTC RUU.exe has issues but it should work.
- if the RUU.exe is not detecting your phone make sure you are in DOWNLOAD MODE and NOT JUST IN THE BOOTLOADER OR RECOVERY (Double Check Device Manager on your computer is reading the phone correctly/has properly installed drivers)
- if RUU.exe is giving you compatibility issues you will need to extract boot, system and recovery form the RUU.exe and manually push them through ADB (look up a guide) for this step you will need to have an unlocked bootloader (which you already do) but if you don't (for some odd reason) you should be able to unlock it even with a softbrick (look for a guide).

HTC RUU exe file can't get beyond InstallShield Wizard

HTC 10
S-Off CID
BS_US001
Android 7.0 July 1, 2017 security patch
Kernel [email protected] #1 SMP PREMEPT
Baseband [email protected]_76.02_F
Build 2.51.617.1 8.0_g CL942117 release-keys
Bootloader unlocked and rooted with SU
TWRP 3.1.1
Recently installed Viper10 5.11.0 ROM. Trying to return to stock but cannot. I have tried running several HTC RUU exe files (including RUU_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.41.617.3 RUU_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_VZW_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.51.617.32
RUU_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_VZW_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.51.617.21
PMEWL_2.51.617.32_NoWipe_TWRP3110).
Nothing works. The RUU files start InstallShield Wizard but when it gets end of the progress bar, the wizard stops and nothing else happens. I've Run As Admin and disabled AV/Firewall. Nothing.
I've tried to install zip versions of same RUU files, both using Fastboot and moving to internal/card storage of the phone. No ZIP file will return unit to stock.
Using the RUU should be the best option but the RUU file always fails when the Wizard's progress bar gets to the end. Why does the RUU fail every time?
Refer to this thread to change your CID to verizon.

What does it say next to CID, MID, and OS in bootloader mode?
You are S-Off, so instead of running an RUU, you can flash a no-wipe firmware package (an RUU will wipe your phone). With that information I can link you to a no-wipe firmware, with instructions to flash it.
Thanks, but I don't want to change CID to Verizon. It's a GSM phone, not CDMA. It's unlocked (617). But I do understand the confusion. The HTC Dev site downloads an RUU that is seemingly for Verizon even though it's listed under the Unlocked Phone section.
Thanks. Bootload mode shows CID as BS_US001, MID as 2PS650000 and OS as 2.51.617.32. I have tried to flash (using both TWRP and Fastboot) a no-wipe firmware (namely PMEWL_2.51.617.32_NoWipe_TWRP3110) but it hasn't returned me to stock. Nothing takes and the only thing I can do to revive the phone is reflash (using TWRP) the Viper10 rom. I can live with the Viper10 rom but I'd like to return to stock so I can get HTC OTA, etc. I figure the most likely way to accomplish this is to use the HTC Dev RUU but, as mentioned, it never gets past the InstallShield Wizard.
Interesting that the Bootloader shows a different OS version than checking through the phone's software. In any event, I am definitely running Viper10 and it uses an older Build as its base.

Software in setting> about is your ROM base, OS in download mode is your firmware version.
Do you have HTC Sync installed on your PC? Try uninstalling it and running the RUU again. You could also try running it while your phone is booted to download mode.
Yup, I've installed fresh drivers via HTC Sync and the PC recognizes the phone no problem.
ADB and fastboot also see the phone. I've tried the RUU in download mode,
bootloader and even OEM rebootRUU. Nada. In all cases the RUU InstallShield Wizard starts and then stops when it reaches the end of the progress bar. It never even gets to the actual RUU install routine (which I've used in the past with my HTC M9, so I know how it works when it flashes correctly). I'm running out of ideas. I'm happy with Viper10, if I can't get back to stock.
Try this https://www.reddit.com/r/htc/comments/2vxite/ruu_exe_file_doesnt_load_closes/colxuoy/
I've had the same problem while running on win 10 ltsb 2016 and this seemed to fix the problem.

If your OS says 2.51.617.32, then you are on the latest firmware now. Seems like the no-wipe firmware worked after all. The firmware won't return you to stock.
If you want to go back to stock and not just update your firmware, you could try flashing a 2.51.617.32 RUU.zip via your extSD instead of running the RUU.exe.
I can upload the RUU.zip if you need it.
Thanks again for the help. I have the following RUU downloaded from the HTC Dev site: RUU_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_VZW_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.51.617.32
I also found what I believe is the ZIP version of that RUU: 2PS6IMG_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_VZW_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.51.617.32
I've tried both running the RUU.exe and flashing the ZIP from my externalSD. No luck with either. Viper10 stays stubbornly stuck as my ROM. If you have a better ZIP, I'd be happy to try that too.
Thanks. I saw this suggestion as well in my hunt for a solution.
I've reloaded every.... possible... redistributable... with no success.
At least my C++ Visual Studio redistributables are up to date.
I can't even get the the license acceptance screen on the RUU install wizard.
I crash out before then.
Thanks. I found the same suggestion in my hunt for a solution.
I've updated every single redistributable... with no success. At least my PC is up-to-date with C++ Visual Studio. :-/

First of all, you should use the reply/quote button when responding to a comment. It makes it easier to tell who you are replying to, and who you are replying to will get a notification about it.
Okay, delete any RUU.zips you already have on your ext SD
Download this
Rename it by deleting everything in the name of the .zip except for 2PS6IMG (and .zip of course) and place it onto your ext SD card
Boot to download mode and your phone will recognize the .zip and prompt you to press volume up to confirm the flash. Do that
When the flash is complete your phone will ask you to press power to reboot. Do that
After the RUU has flashed, either delete the .zip or rename it again to something else (add _2.51.617.32 to the name so you know what it is). If you don't do that, every time you boot to download mode your phone will try to update again.
Good luck!

Tada! That worked. I was able to flash the ZIP you sent and restored to stock 2.51.617.32. I still have no idea why the RUU exe file won't work but as usual there is more than one way to skin a cat -- or in this case, flash an HTC 10. Also not sure why prior attempts to flash a ZIP from the external SD didn't work.
Thanks for all your help (and patience).

That is the RUU I linked.
You could get the RUU.exe that you can run from your PC from HTC's official US website here.
But if you want to flash from SD that's the one. It works with S-On as well.

No. You can run the .exe on your PC, or flash the .zip in fastboot with
fastboot flash zip 2PS6IMG.zip after renaming it to 2PS6IMG.zip
