Dears Helpers!
Like many others I got the problem that the "app memory" of my HOX is blocked with 4,8GB! mysterios "Others" that can not be found anywhere. With your help I would like to be the first one in the world who solves this memory problem.
Please help.
The status:
The HOX got 32GB internal memory. No SD-Card-Slot.
25,24GB are the "Telephone Memory" for Pictures and Videos and Music.
6,76GB are the "app Memory" for the system and apps.
In this app memory the HOX shows 0,86GB for apps and 4,8GB for "Others" only 1GB is free.
The magic thing is, that even after complet factory reset the 4,8GB stay where they are.
So I unlocked the phone, rooted it, put Clockworkmod recovery on it, made a backup (only 1,7GB!), formated all the partitions that let me do this and put the backup back. Everything stood the same.
I put on Cyanogenmod. That shows only the 0,8GB for installed apps and the 1GB free. The 4,8GB where not listed.
Now I am back on stock rom, with root and now TWRP 2.8.0.0.
TWRP shows following partitions:
Cache Size: 300 MB Used: 5MB
Data Size: 2150MB Used 1050MB
(SDCard Size (internal): 25900MB Used 4700MB)
System Size: 1250MB Used 1150MB
The partitions "AndroidSecure" and "Dalvik Cache" are shown but I cant find out how big they are.
All together the partitions are only 3,7GB big. So where are the lost 3GB! of the 6,7GB "App Memory"??!!!
Is there the possibility that there is unpartitioned memory? Can I find out and format it?
Please give me some ideas.
(PS: I tried allready the zip files for TWRP from the following thread, put they don´t execute on my phone. Installing in TWRP produces errors)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/mod-reclaim-free-space-partition-t3029605
Is there the possibility that there is unpartitioned memory? Can I find out and format it?
Anyone?
Hauke
Maybe somebody can answer me another question. I found out, that there are 4 tmpfs mount points. Each of them is 492MB big and all of them are empty. Could this the blocked memory? Can I delete or shrink them somehow?
Thank you very much

Hello, i use the AuraxTSense v7.6.1 roms. Iam a litte confused about the app2sd+. Ive created a 1024mb ext3 partition with gparted and wiped the phone.
When i look in quick system info (after installing some apps) i can read:
A2SD storage: 0.93MB, Free: 706MB
internal storage 148MB, Free: 23.27
Is this the normal way app2sd+ uses the availibe memory? I feel really bad with so less internal memory.
Ive got the feeling the app2sd+ dont write more than ~200mb on the ext3 memory.
Can someone tell me what to do?
Yeah, I'm in a similar situation.
I have Modaco's R8 with A2SD+ and I think some applications (such as Copilot) are definetely going to internal memory instead of ext3 partition.
I thought, since ext3 is symlinked as /data to fool android, all applications would end up in ext3... or have I got it totally wrong??
Why are we losing so much internal memory?
I have the exact same issue!
It is soooo anoying and I am about to go totally insane.
Even though i have partitioned my SD correctly it just eats internal storage 1:1 when i install apps.
...aslo selecting move to sd card in application manager have no effect on internal storage anyhow.
Ive got exactly the same problems. Do you have Amoled or Slcd, may they did some more hardware changes. Which rom do you use, may this is a aurextsense only issue?
Does someone have tried to partition the sd via root manager? If i do so, quick system info dont show me the partition.
Could it be possible that this is the normal app2sd+ behaviour and we just want more?
Does someone know where to find the author of app2sd+, may we could hask him (or her ;D).
i have the same problem and mine is amoled.
there has to be something wrong either with our rom developement or our setup on the phone.
help would be appreciated
btw my problem is that my dalvik cache is going to the phones memory instead of the sd! check if yours is the same under data/dalvik-cache
I have the AMOLED version and I have experienced the issues on ALL ROMs (froyo 2.2 based) that I have tried out.
I partitioned the SD card with ClockworkMod recovery 0 cache, 512 ext3.
Since I have experienced this issue on all ROMs I have tried I am starting to think that it is a SD related issue?
I never had the often build in aps2sd+ working at all.
Once I had the 2.2 build in apps2sd by google working but that was after fireing this at it: adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2.
After going back to AurexTSense rom and doing the adb shell one again it didnt work.
I couldnt even make it work again with the rom that I had it working on the one time earlier.
Since I am pretty confident that the partitioning of the SD is correct then the only difference left is that my SD is a "Gold" card.
Could this be the issue???
That the SD is a gold card?
One thing I do know for sure is that I am about to go outside and ask a total random individual if he knows what the problem is.
If he dont I will kill him and proceed with the next until SOMEONE can tell me what the #%#%#% is going on.
please delete...wrong thread...
I dont use a goldcard so i dont think this could be a problem.
iam using a 16gb sd card. may it doesnt work with this size?!
damn problem, i will go crazy with it .
Maybe the problem has something to do with the formatting of the SD card?
I personally used ROM Manager with Clockworkmod recovery to do the trick.
...perhaps that is what us experiencing this anoying error all has in common?
Because I have had the issue on all roms I have tried out I am reluctant to believe it has something to do with the SD card / formatting...?
Problem Solved...FINALLY!
Try getting the app called Quick System Info from the market.
It can detect your app2sd ext partition.
...so if you can see it in Quick System Info it is actually working.
What I did was (again) to repart my SD with 512 ext and 0 swap.
...then that issue is ruled out of the way.
Then I wiped everything and reinstalled my fav rom.
(which ROM you use does not matter at all just as long as it has apps2sd build in. This is NOT the google one in 2.2 i am talking about here.
Preferably your ROM should have app2sd+ installed and then it will automatically move all apps to SD.
Since the ext part is interlinked with internal storage you can also have widgets and other stuff on the SD which is NOT possible with google app2sd in F 2.2
After installing the ROM I downloaded Quick System Info from the market and noticed that i actually had an app2sd partition allocated and it had 385 MB free / initially it was 512 MB.
...so clearly apps has been moved to the ext part during first boot.
Cool, i went on to download google earth since its a giant app 22 MB.
The funny thing is that 6 out og 22 MB went to the ext part and the rest went to internal memory.
The same goes for Google Maps.
The thing is that some of the google apps simply has some modules that can ONLY be run from internal storage.
..aslo making these apps not so good for testing purposes in regrards to apps2sd.
Instead I installed some other apps like Break Out for droid which is about 8 megs.
It hammered into ext smoothly and taking nothing from internal storage.
Also DO NOT USE the google apps2sd as it will only move your apps from ext part into the fat32 part of your SD.
So if you have a correctly formatted SD card (like done with clockworkmod and rom manager) it will all be working automatically.
To be honest I have been fooled a bit by my own messing around
First i didnt have an ext part which ofcourse was the initial problem.
When i finally had the ext part I was stupid enough to test with the google apps and since i only was able to see amount of interal storage it appeared NOT to work.
Try it out guys and be as happy as I am now...finally
im using the amoled version of the desire, with the exact same version of auroxtsence as the op, as you can see from the screenshot, im using over 600mb on my ext3 partition....
why are some so apps going to ext3.and some not? Ive installed quake 2, it has gone to ext3. After deinstalling and reinstalling it goes to internal. This doeant make sense to me. Is this the normal behaviour?
Ive got 15 mb internal left and wasnt able to install minisquatron without using froyo a2sd. The a2sd+ dont use more than ~200mb.
So can someone tell me what to do or if someone think it runs normal tell what to test.
Is there any way of installing this damned a2sd without wiping out everything? I gues not, so ....stupid question.
Warning !
Do not look the a2sd storage in Quick System Info , this app (great app except for a2sd line ) is bugged .
Ive tchat about this on xda , and I'm not single who don't have a ext3 partition ( after deleted ) but the app say we have a storage a2sd !
The answer will probably be a yes but I want to make sure.....I partitioned my sd card to free up some hardware space and I ended up with 122mb on device.
My question is, do software updates load onto the phone memory? I flashed a keyboard, radio and icons off the card and now the memory has went down to 102mb.
Thanks in advance,
Paul.
It actually seems to be going down a few mb at a time, thought this **** would end after I binned the BlackBerry..........
You could of searched there is plenty of topics on this ...... when you use apps2sd+, /data/app/ and the dalvik cache are moved to the sd-ext, the /data/data/ directory remains on the device, this directory is used to store all app data, thats why your internal storage goes down

Yes there is a small amount of internal space still used but not much.
You will be able to install a lot of apps untill you run out of space. Much more than before.
Another trick you could try that I just did is applying the custom MTD partitions mod (do a search in the development thread) and this will give you some more memory to play with (I have 70 apps installed and still have 108MB Free!)
Hi and thank you for your patience
When I enter the "Quick system info" app I see that I have several storages.
Can someone please explain what are the uses for the following 2 storages?
System storage - I have 68MB free out of 250. Is t normal ?
Internal storage – 129 MB free out of 148.
Another question.
When I enter the "Processes" tab I see that every process take about 20MB is it ok ?
First of all why would you ask if it's normal? Doesn't it seem that your phone has problems, does it run crappy?
The system partition is the partition on which your system is installed and if you are not S-off can only be accessed in recovery.
The internal memory is the data partition, that is where all the apps are installed.
I don't know about the required free space on system, but if you did not remove any pre installed apps just leave it, it's fine. If you did remove pre installed apps you can move some apps form /data/app to system/app to save some space on the internal memory, but in your case that isn't necessary because you still have 129 Mb free.
About the processes, it's all fine except if you experience heavy lag, than you might need a task killer and use it every once in a while.
Dear XDA forum,
since a few roms i always get a "low on storage" warning, even after factory reset and flashing a new rom.
So i'd want to ask for a small summery of what storage there is inside the desire and on the sdcard and how to solve this problem
My sdcard is 16GB class 10. I didnt partition it manually (i think).
according to my desire it has effective 14.2gb.about 2gb are used and 4gb are free? that doesnt sound right.
so i guess its 2 partitions?
could anyone please tell me which mountpoint is which?
and how do i solve the low storage problem? do i need some a2sd script or do i have to more the internal storage to the sdcard?
which mountpoints do the scripts actarlly move?
i have no problem with repartitioning my sdcard. i was given to understand that u usually need a fat32 partition (for apps i guess) and an ext2/3 partition afterwards. some scripts even allow a swap partition at the end of the sdcard to be used as swap space. is that a good idea?
i know its a lot of questions :/ but i hope for some good answers :>
thanks & greetings,
soomon
my advice would be to backup your sd card and (re)partition using gparted, start from scratch because I don't know what your current configuration is, step 5 here
choose ext3/ext4 partition (max ~1.5GB) depending on rom requirements, most support ext4 and should be slightly faster. most roms don't need swap partition.
in simple terms, your space will get taken up by apps (apks), dalvik cache, app cache and app data. most custom roms will automatically move apks to your sd-ext partition. there are various different scripts which move the other bits around. generally it is better to keep app data on internal (/data partition)
regardless of which rom you choose, use an app like 'diskusage' to browse all your partitions, so you can work out where and how all your space is being use.
to maximise space you also need to be s-off and correct hboot for the rom (again should be stated within each rom thread, or search within it)
ok so the first partition on the sdcard will become my sd-ext which will replace the /data partition on the internal storage.
I guess is hould try data2sd then?
with a class 10 it should not get that slow and i get loads of space on that partition.
thanks for your help.
also use links2d,very usefull.....
hi again,
as i see in a terminal emulator by typing "df -h"
my data is 150mb and has 15mb left, so i guess i better moe the whole partition to the sdcard as i'd have to move all the apps to the sdcard anyway sooner or later.
my /system has only 5mb of 250mb left. is that a problem?

depends entirely what rom you're running if any, and what scripts it uses. basically you should be able to find some way to install many apps without running out of space (one of the main reasons for rooting in the first place ).
with your current setup, you could try something like link2sd to just move apps and dalvik to sd, see if you have enough space that way. you shouldnt have to manually 'move to sd', keeping them on 'internal' tricks them to sd-ext. (you can use something like 'diskusage' to check they're actually on the sd-ext)
the system partition is meant to be mostly full. free space on /system is wasted space.
you're still on stock hboot, which is why your data partition is so small.
if you install another rom, many of them have a smaller system size, so if you're s-off you can flash a different hboot to repartition your internal memory layout: your system size will reduce to roughly match your rom, and the saved space is converted into extra data space, see alpharev.nl for hboots.
e.g. if your rom system is 140MB, will fit nicely into cm7r2 hboot with 145MB system, and you get 287MB of data instead of 150MB. 287MB can be enough to store app data and dalvik cache if you don't have too many apps.
i refer you to these sets of guides for further reading, should explain a lot more, and better than i have...
thanks eddie,
i'm still s-on and stock hboot, but i use a custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766550
i guess the problem is that LBE gues 4 and lookout together need over 22mb of space :/
i'll try link2sd then.
thanks!
hm.. when i try to install link2sd i get "insufficient storage available". that program is not even 1MB in size and i have 15mb of free space on the internal storage.. what can i do?
edit: i'll try to install it at home with an adb tool. maybe i have more luck with that.
follow instructions for a2sd with that rom (scroll down). this will move apps and dalvik to sd-ext automatically. or follow/search the thread for other methods, it's regularly discussed...
[not used link2sd, it should in theory do the same thing, but my advice would be to stick with the instructions as that's the recommended way if you really need/want to install link2sd...uninstall something else to make more space ]
ofc removing apps might help (althrough i only installed 2 or 3). but 15mb should be enough to install a 800kb software
gonna try to install some apps later after running a2sd.
thanks a lot man didnt see that information.
Don't worry, I'm not gonna whine about how I miss unified storage or how I have no space left for my million apps.
I have a genuinely unique issue and I need help understanding it.
I am running Cyanogenmod 12.1
My storage looks like this:
Internal storage 318MB available out of 2.95GB (system storage)
Internal storage 12.10GB available out of 23.47GB
External storage 16.17GB available out of 29.71GB.
I tried installing a storage analyzer app and for the System storage it says:
System storage: 382MB available / 626 MB occupied
So the app thinks I have 1 GB partition whereas the phone itself thinks I have a 3GB partition.
According to my phone I should have 2.4Gb available on the system partition!
I believe something much be really wrong here because there is hardly any space left at all to do anything.
I only have 6 apps installed on the internal storage and it constantly full and unable to download any more.
I am convinced that the partition is actually 1GB instead of 3GB that my phone thinks.
I am looking for someone knowledgeable to help me diagnose the problem.
The solution I seek would be either something that would
a ) Fix the partition to be a real 3GB instead of a 3GB that acts like a 1GB
b ) Increase the partition size to be much larger (at least 5GB)
c ) A combination of all of the above
I've also looked into a unified storage approach which I understand is possible with CM12.1 but extremely difficult. The tutorials I found are insane.
I am looking for advanced solutions and not the typical answers such as "wipe delvic cache", "clear cache", "remove apps" etc.
Thank you
I have the same problems and my ROM is Omni 5.1.1 . Hope you find the answer.
Try using partition manager in oppo's stock recovery
Flash stock recovery and go to partition select restore partition... I'm sorry but it may work..
