Hi All,
Thanks to this guide, I've been able to install working Google Play Store, Google Play Services, etc. on my AFTV2. I'm able to log into my Google account, and most google apps (Inbox, Drive, Sheets, Keep, Play Music, and Earth) work perfectly.
One exception is Google Hangouts (which requires syncing contacts). The version of Hangouts I've sideloaded is the latest arm64 version from APKMirror. It loads fine, and even lets me send and receive SMS messages. However, contact names do not appear in Hangouts (only phone numbers), and only my most recent contacts appear under the "contacts" tab. Same problem occurs in any older version of the hangouts .apk I've tried.
I suspect that all I've got to do to fix contact syncing is to add the necessary .apks, but I'm not sure where to start.
I attempted to side-load each available version of Google Contacts (1.3, 1.2, and 1.1) and Google Contact Sync (6.0) from APKPure. I can only successfully install Google Contacts 1.3 (the rest are incompatible). It starts, but stalls with the message "Contact list is being updated."
I've searched the forums for the right versions of contacts.apk or google contacts sync, but can't seem to find anything for Android 5.1. Before I try experimenting with older versions, has anyone had any luck with contacts / syncing?
Thanks
To be honest, hangouts is a pain lol.. ive had a number of issues with it in the past on my roms for various devices
THX for your post @vrl2.

Hello,
I've tried several ROMS and 2 version of Gapps.
My problem is there is no Calendar sync at all.
When entering the Google account under Sync There is no Calendar at all. Just Gmail, Drive , Browser and Contacts.
When entering the Calender app , I'm greeted with "Existing" "New" and "Later" screen , as it doesn't detect any Google account associated with the phone.
When trying to use "Existing" and add my Google account , it states this account is already in use.
I've looked in the web calender for any clues as to why my calendar sync disappeared , and did not find any.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.
Erez
Look in /system/app & see if you have (Google)CalenadrSyncAdapter.apk. You need the sync adapter to use an AOSP built calendar apk. The other option would be to get rid of the calendar.apk in your rom & download form the Play Store.
Hello everyone!
Today when I tried to use my phone, I got this error message:
Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again [Force close]

I'm on Samsung Captivate Glide, AT&T version, running on Gingerbread 2.3.5, and I've never had this problem before.
From what I've gathered, it appears when:
I tap on a contact in Contacts and in Favorites (it says "No additional information for this contact"), and even on contacts saved as shortcuts on homescreen. Also when I try to Add a new contact.
However, it does let me call when I slide my finger over the contact to right.
Now, I browsed a number of threads and forums so far to see if I can't find anything to help. This is all I've tried so far:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Contacts / Contact Storage > Clear data
I also cleared data from all google applications this way, and also from Account and sync settings, Calendar, Calendar storage, Dialer, Dialer Storage, DRM content, DRM content launcher, DRM protected content storage, Media storage as per adviced, with no luck.
A fairly common reason for this error was said to be Facebook sync, or Calendar app, but the thing is I don't even have a FB account and I don't use my phone's calendar. Similarly, it was suggested that you turn off sync, but I didn't have sync on, and I tried disabling Background data as well, but again, no luck.
With some users, problem seemed to lie in recently updated app, especially those that use the contacts. I uninstalled [Yahoo] Messenger, Google +, Whatsapp, , Drive, Skype, Twitter, and Facebook, Gmail and YouTube updates (since can't get rid of the apps themselves) and several other apps (Firefox, Cut the Rope Experiments game), but - you guessed it - to no avail.
Thing is, when I chose the option to Merge contacts with google account, it fetched all my google contacts and let me use them.
I tried saving all my contacts as Vcard list, cleared the storage and then tried to boot all contacts from the saved Vcard again. I got the same error message (I uploaded it in Attachments). I though that might be caused by some glitch in my recent contacts, so I tried to import that Vcard to google contacts, then export it again and open in phone. Same error message. To confirm it's not a problem with recent contacts, I managed to dig out an older Vcard (from last year), but it doesn't work either.
Funny thing is, when I select the option Import/Export in Contacts, I only get one option, and that's Send namecard via. If I recall correctly, there used to be more options, no...? When I first got the phone, I transferred my contacts from LG KP500 Cookie by these same namecards without any problem.
I saw some people link to some patch fix for HTC, do you think it would work on my Glide?
Tl;Dr: Out of the blue, I got an android.process.acore force close error. I can call but can't access or edit my contacts nor load namecards on GB. Tried everything advised on various fora, nothing helped.
I would appreciate any advice or even a suggestion, as I would like to avoid factory reset... Thanks
same thing here, I cannot add contacts and keep crashing - I've tried also to clear the data and stop the processes of Contacts and contacts Storage, but with now result.
I am on a Samsung Galaxy S2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5
EDIT: I can't even load my contacts back from the SD card. woooooohooooo, everything was fine and working before some app update...I don't keep track of everything after every little modification of an app, tough. please help!
Just received my phone from Aliexpress. I removed all of the Baidu references, ASUS store, and Chinese references, etc... then manually added google and updated play store, etc... For some reason, even after adding, removing and re-adding my google account, none of my google contacts will show in the "contacts" app. I confirmed that the check box to sync is checked and it says it succeeds but nothing shows except "me".
Any ideas what's going on there ?
same here

Hi.
After upgrading to cm-13.0-20160721-NIGHTLY-m8.zip from stock, I got no contacts. I then flashed cm-13.0-20160728-NIGHTLY-m8.zip instead, same result. When I open contacts app, I can only add new contacts locally on phone, there is no option to add them to google account. No contacts are displayed in phone calls or tekst messages either. Seems like they are not sycnced with google
What to do to get contacts back on the phone?
When I login at my google account from PC, all caonacts are displayed.
updating gapps solved the problem
Hello.
Just got this phone 2 days ago. Already updated it to Pie, first Android One I have.
I noticied Contacts is not showing information about other apps inside contacts details, like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.
In a "normal situation", when you open a contact, these information will be present bellow contact details, but for me isn't showing.
Is Android One this way, or I'm missing something?
Thanks in advice.
Android one is not miui.
Contacts is a standard Google app. If works the same on any phone.
If you don't like it, you can find alternatives in the store.
I just checked and I could add various "IM" accounts to a contact, and they showed up when viewing the contact...

I know we don't have miui here. Isn't the point.
My own profile is showing with all information bellow my phone numbers, but all other contacts don't.
I noticied when I SEARCH for a contact inside app, it shows 2 or more duplicates, and the information is there. So, maybe is a merging problem, but all my contacts is correctly merged!
As far as I know, Facebook, Messenger, or Instagram contacts can no longer be sync automatically with any contact app (due to facebook policy)(unless your phone is rooted)
Whatsapp contacts should be automatically sync, but sometimes they doesn't appear or appears as duplicates.
The solution for me was to use Merge + app which "really" merges contacts so that Whatsapp informations appears in contacts details without duplicates
I don't know about other IM apps...
