All,
I'm sure there must be some unrooted owners out there. I am looking to have a question answered before I rebuild my G4 and wondered if someone or a number of people could confirm or deny something for me.
In my old version of lollipop in Do Not Disturb mode there was a tick box to allow calender notifications or not. In the Marshmallow iteration there is not.. I use Do Not Disturb through the night and since the factory reset Calender Notifications are audible when they didnt used to be no matter what I do.
I just need someone to confirm to me that while using do not disturb in priority mode with no applications allowed and messages turned off but all calls allowed whether Calender notifications are audible or whether they get suppressed as part of the Do not Disturb.
Is it possible for anyone to confirm or deny this for me please? I dont want to rebuild again only to find that "thats the way it is now"
Pleeeease can someone help
thanks
Can no-one try this for me?

Thanks for the picture. I guess the H815 in Europe must be totally different to the US one as thats not what I have at all..
I've never used any DND mode so unsure where it is you want me to look, I'm running unrooted (for now, another replacement) EE UK on LP.
Make sure your phone sounds are turned on before you do this not in vibrate or silent. Then, In sounds and notifications setting > Do not disturb. Turn it on, press sounds and vibrations and set to priority only. Go to select priorities and under app notifications make sure no apps are ticked. Set Calls from everyone and messages from no one.
Then with the star in the top left so you know priority mode is on, make a calendar appointment with an audible reminder for a couple of minutes ahead and then let me know if the reminder makes an audible noise or if the do not disturb suppresses it. You should get no other notifications at all, but any calls will ring.
IF you could do that and let me know the outcome it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Flashed LED and notification was on screen when turned on, but no sound.

You have the calender apps ticked as priority Nachttier73 so that should sound, can you Un tick them and see if you get the same sound?
Uh, I must read more carefully. You don't want to hear them... I'll be able to check it in a few hours.

Okay... No sound, no light with unselected apps.
Thanks guys, I'm guessing something has gone wrong with mine then and another factory reset is in order. I appreciate your time and help.
Strange that mine doesn't actually seem to have a DND function actually called that though, I assume it is the same as the interruptions on mine
well I factory rest mine and tried again and I still get notifications through from the calendar when DND is turned on.. officially giving up...

May be Android M bug with Lg G4?

I am really really happy that the galaxy nexus has a notification light. That was the thing preventing me from moving on from my nexus one.
Of course I wish Google would make the notification light more customizable because as it stands its really worthless by default.
I'm using light flow to help but its not perfect. Maybe its just not ready for ics yet or I'm doing something wrong but these r the problems I'm encountering:
In Google talk when I type a message and the screen goes off, the notification light comes on as if the person has responded but its being triggered by my own message. The only way I've been able to help with this is to hit menu>end chat after typing my message.
The other issue is with Google voice. I don't see a notification light up for it. Do any of you know if the paid version of the app will do it for Google voice?
Thirdly it doesn't seem to stop the sounds from the notifications in the night time mode...it turns off the light, but even though in that option I have it set to do the sound as well, it doesn't do it. I had to go into the sound settings and just turn off the notification sound (which actually didn't help, I had to go into each apps settings and turn it off there).

The Light Flow developer is here on XDA. He's replied in a thread on the app forum. Perhaps your answers lie there:

Personally, I have the paid app and it has been hit and miss for me on ICS... sometimes I can't get the light to go away unless I FC the app. I uninstalled it for now until the niggles get smoothed out.

I was having same problems - light won`t stop flashing even after I checked received sms or missed phone call. Had to uninstall app But once its fixed, I will be first to install it - fantastic!
Anyone else know if there's any other app that can configure the lights?
I've bought a few over the years for my other devices but haven't tried any for Galaxy Nexus yet.
I've noticed though in Google Voice, when I get a text, the light is green.
I used light flow for a bit. but killed at after a day or so. Its still a little buggy in ICS as others have said
i had the proble with the light not turning off too. I had to turn off the notification light for no signal and low battery, and its been perfect since then.
I guess knock on wood, but I have never had a problem with the light staying on with Lightflow paid version.. I feel like if you swipe to dismiss a text message, it will stay on, but if you just open the Messaging app, it will stop blinking. Also, if you use the "x" on the notifications window, it will stop blinking without opening Messaging.
Edit:
With regards to the above post, I have never had the "no signal" light on, but I do have "low battery" and it works fine.
Strange, my problem is actually the opposite to you guys. With light flow my notifications clear just fine, every time. However, it seems like about half the time it refuses to notify me at all. Drains a bit of battery too.

I'm working on improvements for ICS. There's a few things I'm working on for a release in the next few days.
Firstly, at the moment gtalk just doesn't work correctly for identifying notifications due to changes in the gtalk app. I've pretty much rewritten the notification detection for gtalk now and it seems to be working fine in the test builds.
There's a bug I've fixed where for some people the app won't work after a reboot.
As for swiping away notificatons, that won't clear them. It's really frustrating that the accessibility service is so limited in this regard and won't report anything useful back on what's happened. Because of this, I'm adding a new option to clear notifications additionally when you pull down the notification bar as this is something I've managed to hook into. Therefore it'll clear when you either open the app, or pull the notification bar down (but will then be off even if you don't actually view the notification)
I've had a few crash reports (thanks to those who send them in) that I've been trying to fix also, but some of these can take a few iterations to completely stop.
As for battery use, after the next market release adding the above, I'm going to try and add a new feature to just display the most recent notification that's come in. Although it wouldn't be my personal choice, it'll use less battery than the notifications where it's changing in succession around all the notification colors.
---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:12 PM ----------
As for the sounds not stopping, have you set the native app to "silent" for it's notifications. Just want to see if it could actually be the main app that's triggering the sound.
---------- Post added at 01:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:14 PM ----------
The paid version of the app also supports google voice.
I'm having a really bad issue where once the screen is off, I can't get it to turn back on. The only way to get it on is to reboot the phone via ADB. Then, once I turn it off, it stays off again. If I press the power button SOMETIMES it will flash my lock screen for a 10th of a second, but then turn back on. This started when I installed the app. I was able to test the LED colors, and it did that during the test, too. Hopefully it's an easy fix!

i got this problem too, turn off foreground, uninstall, install, turn off foreground, turn on. You should be good to go then. App is a bit buggy, but better than what google is currently offering us.
No dice
The good news though is that I can get my phone to work again by entering an ADB shell, entering "su", running a "ps" to list the running processes, then running "kill (proc number here)" to end the process, allowing me to turn my screen back on.
EDIT: Ok, so after killing the process using the method listed above, I re-entered the app, turned the "run in foreground" off, then turned it back on, then rebooted. Phone seems to be ok now.

You can also pull the battery if you want. There are several of us that have had this issue with light flow. The developer has stated that he is working on a fix. I would suggest removing the app until there is a confirmed solution.

Yea, battery pull works too, but considering how finicky the battery cover of the GN is, plus the case i have, it's easier to adb reboot or kill the process.
See my above edit, though. I seem to have gotten it to work.

I stand corrected; app description says root is not needed. I was thinking of another app I saw that does similar functions that requires root.
as the title states, I would like to know if there is away that I am not seeing to disable the screen illuminating when I receive a notification (sms, email.. etc)
I don't like this feature, the phone already tells me via audio notification that I have received a message and I think it is a battery drainer (not matter how minuscule) I'd like to have some control over this...
With my screen off, it lights up when I receive a message and I would like to disable this function. I already have LED notification turned off...
I hope I was able to communicate my desire
Thanks in advance for your help

Oops, you got a free thanks. The way I dealt with it was to install Handcent and then disable the stock messaging application. But I'm on US Cellular and I'm not sure how much different our phones are. Handcent has MANY more features than the stock application as a perk also.

That is an alternative yes. I would like to keep the stock app though because it's been my experience to have lots of problems with third party messaging apps. For example, I am unable to use MightText while using some third party apps. Sometimes the apps update and have FC closes afterwards.
If you didn't mean to give me a thanks, can't you take it back... I mean if you really wanted too, don't get me wrong, I'll take all the thanks I can get!
I'd also be interested in this..I find it super anoying.
Edit: Gave in and installed Go SMS with a GSIII theme.

Hi, I just recently transitioned from the Note 3 to the LG G3 & find the phone to be an incredible upgrade!!
I got used to the "Blocking Mode" feature on the Samsung phone & find the similar feature "Quiet Mode" on the LG phone to be very lacking. On the Samsung phone I could activate the blocking mode & still receive phone calls from predefined numbers. The LG phone seems to offer a similar arrangement whereby phone calls from specific numbers could be allowed but the quiet mode feature works by putting the phone either in "Silent or Vibrate Only" modes & thus with the "Quiet Mode" activated even though it allows the call to go through but I can't respond to it as the phone is Silent or on Vibrate while I sleep.
This seems like a big oversight whereby the whole purpose of allowing phone calls is defeated!!
Can anyone please advise what to do or if I am doing something wrong??
Thanks
I think the allowed contacts will be able to reach you in Quiet Mode. So the phone rings when someone calls you that is in your 'allowed' list. I haven't tried it though. An good alternative to LG's Quiet Mode is the app Silence. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cabooze.buzzoff2

I've tried it and yes, the phone doens't ring at all. Well Silence Premium is much better.
Thanks, does silence premium control the LED light as well?

Wow what a total f**king worthless broken feature. I had it setup for calls from family to come through and my wife and kids were in a wreck and my phone never rang. Wtf.
Multiple numbers listed in the allowed callers list and nothing. Verifiable, repeatable. I only used it while sleeping. When I calm down I will decide whether to return this $650 piece of $#*+
Extreme call blocker also is very usefull, you can create a black or white list, even block sms if you want! Really a great program!
I made as Tasker profile that silences the phone between selected hours when it's charging. Then I made another profile that allows calls from favorite contacts to go through anyway, with increasing ringing. I think I could make an app from this, if someone is interested.

I highly recommend the app Do Not Disturb. It has a few more features than Samsung's blocking mode and it's free. There is even a premium version for a buck and a half that gives you more functionality. Plan on buying it to support the developers but free version provides all I need for now. Definitely recommend trying it out.

Here is an answer to your problem. Long press quiet mode and you get his menu which should hold the holy grail or for the lame people a 'solution'
No, you still can't choose Sound under Sound profile. Only Silent an Vibrate are available. And that means no sound when someone important calls, which means this Quiet mode is useless when you are sleeping. Might as well turn off the phone completely.

When you put your contacts in the white list in that programm i mentioned (Extreme Call Blocker) your Phone will ring on a volume which you have specified even when your Phone is muted!

Cool but what's that got to do with my post! I quoted member "Pilz" who was talking about stock quiet mode i am well aware of the 1000s of programes like extreme call blocker that do a better job than LGs attempt
AT&T rep duplicated it on the phone with me when I called about something else. They'd been using* it too and didn't think to test it first either.
Does that feature work on any variant?
For any other helpers, yeah we know there are settings. That's the point, they don't work.
Thanks for the working alternatives posted by others.
I tried to use "do not disturb" feature and configured are the required settings well but I still receive notifications from all apps like Whatsapp for example
I mute the notifications sound but it still vibrates!!
also "call reject" from the list... I'm still able to receive calls from that list..!!
The problem is in my phone with v20a and V20b.. I did not try that in LP before
any idea??
Anyone else is facing those problems in marshmallow??
I have got a similar problem:
In DnD Mode the phone is silent, only the alarm is ringing. So far so good.
I have two rules:
One for the wekend and one during the week. Now the problem is that the DnD Mode doesn´t switch off during the week. Only on Saturday and Sunday it works...
Both rules are configured in the same way...

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.
same thing here pixel 2 oreo 8.1 notification sound...no thing new in the "hot list" or email or message
very weird, and randomly at night too which is the suck
2019 and no change
Hello, same issue still persists in 2019. Every few weeks i must dump the default sound as it sets it self up again.
Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...
