hey guys, i was wondering, is there a way to create a realistic drop shadow for the background of a layout. i've seen thing like using an xml with shapes and gradient but they look dead to me and i couldn't understand those things. i've used @ANDROID:drawable/dialog_holo_light_frame but it make the surface of the layout grayish when i want it to stay white. i also used a 9patch image but the black lines show up. so is there a way i could accomplish what i want?
Do you have a screenshot of where one is being used?
Depending on which API you are developing for, Android 5 introduced view elevation which create a material styled shadow. Straight from the docs: http://wear.techbrood.com/preview/material/views-shadows.html

I am a complete noob at anything photoshop. Can any of the artistic talents here, modify the htcmenus.bmp file for any of the new Maila ROM's and get rid of the bright green with a softer color like a gray or silver or dark blue -somthing more subtle. I tried some of the similar file for other phones but it messes up the menus, I assume the menu widths are different or something and I couldnt find this mod for the HD.
Thanks much.
if your using a manilla 3d version2 (one that doesnt work with landscape) try this...

Hey guys i don't know if this has been posted yet, but i surfed around and couldn't get any info.
I edited a couple pictures off my comp to use them as background and now i realized for bright color'ed back grounds (ie. blue/white) they blend right in with the main screens *White font color, ya you know the clock etc..
it would help if we can set these color to black/blue/deep blue etc. vice versa, suprisingly htc never thought of this? or am i missing something here =/
changing themes don't seem to be doing much
FONTs....
System and TF3D are available and works from other devices.
Godzon has a nice selection but not all of his include system fonts.
Search for others....Install, if no likey...uninstall
Can anyone made the keyboard white with the dark theme? It would be nice, don't yall think?

Edit the Registry here
I've actually tried this and there isn't a perfect way of accomplishing it. Changing the registry also changes other colors throughout the system and makes it strange looking. For example: the registry tweak in the thread the poster above me linked, has a tweak for the keyboard, but it is for the background color of the board. This color is also used for all the little sub menus (the things with the "..."). I changed mine to black because it does look better than the default grayish color (I tried changing it to white, but it just contrasts with way to many other things).

Hi all,
I'm trying to make some widget locker themes that have text in the background image. I was able to make a few with just the standard rounded corner rectangle outline that a lot of themes use and I was also able to get it to work with a black and red version of my text background. But for whatever reason, when I change the background up to be black and white, my text gets all jumbled. It gets stretched in the middle between two letters rather than the whole background stretching.
I have to be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. I've follow both of the tutorials and understand have about five or six different themes that work, but for whatever reason this one with text is kicking my butt. Anybody else ever run into this?
Thanks,
Dave

Well,
I've made some progress with this. I messed around with the background image and found that the single black pixel placed at the top of the image is where widget locker stretches the image to fit the screen. My temporary solution was to off set the pixel to the left side of my text. The only side effect is that now my text isn't centered as I wanted it. Instead is now on the right side of my screen. It looks ok with the lock screen I am running, but I don't understand why it works with one background (being center) and not the other.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave
I have no Idea why my last thread was locked. I used a free to use icon and explained that I only edited it and did not create it... but here are a few more. These might not be as smooth as the other because I only have a paint type program to edit colors and it can fade out colors, but... here they are.
