Help which guide / mod for kindle fire hd 6 (4th generation) - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, very new to the MOD scene. Fed up with the amazon OS as it is so limiting. I want to have open most up to date Android that is highly tested and reliable (available for my device). The HD 6 is currently on Fire OS 4.5.5.1
I've actually read many posts / how to's on this forum, but some are conflicting and others are either incomplete or very convoluted. Can someone guide me to instructions or you tube video that they recommend? I'd really like to hear from people who have actually modded the tablet (or similar tablet) to the one I own and has experienced success.

[Q] Kindle Fire Stock Reading App vs. Android Kindle App and Alternatives

I saw a discussion regarding this, but they kinda just described the functionality (i would assume both can read books lol). My girlfriend was interested in me rooting her kf, but is a skeptic when all the nerdy details get thrown into the mix, not as much of a tinkerer as I am So my question is, are the ui's and look basically the same? If not, are there any like themed ebook reader apps that emulate the ui of the stock kindle reader? I am going to keep looking through the forums as well as Google, and I apologize if I missed a thread that answers my question.
Thanks!
I had the same question before I flashed a custom rom! But the kindle app is basically the same (the choose font feature is the only one you lose). I had no problesm downloading my books from the cloud back to the device. The only problem that I got was with the magazines, they don't look as good as when you have the stock rom.

WatchDisney Jr App

I saw the other day that the Kindle Fire has a Watch Disney Jr app. I thought it was only available on iOS devices, but apparently not. Would love to have this for my son. Anyone know if the apk can be pulled and installed on any Android device? Did a quick Google search, and didn't come up with anything useful.
Found the app easily enough, though it doesn't seem to wanna load anything useful...meaning I don't think it's just gonna work on any phone.
As far as I know it's a Kindle and Sprint device exclusive.
I will attach the apk anyways, in case anyone else should find it useful for any reason.

Thanks for searching. Apparently I need to brush up on my google search skills!!
Wish the app would just come to android
Thanks for posting an apk, but that isn't the 'official' disney app (I installed and tested).. looks like some 3rd party app which isn't functioning properly. The "Watch Disney Junior" app seems to only be available on kindle fire devices. Here's the link from the amazon app store: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Junior-Kindle-Tablet-Edition/dp/B00BFX2DI8
If anyone has a rooted kindle and can post the apk, that would be appreciated. Amazon won't let me install it to my nexus 10 from their app store.
Glad there are others interested in getting this app to all Android devices. Would be much appreciated from my son, lol!
watch disney jr kindle edition
People don't realize there is a difference between the Kindle edition apps and other android apps with the same name. The Kindle app let's you stream Disney Channel live and watch individual shows.
google "kindle fire system dump"
download
extract using 7zip
go to /system/app
copy the "kindlewatchdc.apk, kindlewatchxd.apk, kindlewatchjr.apk" to your htc one
move them to /system/app on your htc one (must be rooted)
set permissions
reboot
*note that i have not tried this, just a suggestion
**also, the apks may be named different
Some please post the 3 disney Apk's Watch Disney, Watch Disney XD, Watch Disney Jr. PLEASE!!!

I backed up the Disney channel, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon apps from my daughter's Kindle Fire HD. I tried loading them on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" but they would not run properly. You could give it a try anyway. PM me and I can send you the links.
watch disney apps
Who can get this working on android that would be great. Willing to donate:good: who can make it happen.
Anyone have updates?
It's now available in the Play Store. Requires cable subscription. Enjoy!

How to get Google Voice Typing on Kindle Fire 5th gen (Fire OS 5.1.1)?

I have a Kindle Fire 5th gen, running Fire OS 5.1.1 rooted. I've installed the Google Keyboard, which is vastly superior to the stock one. But the keyboard does not display the microphone button for voice typing, and the option to enable it does not appear in Google Keyboard's settings.
I looked on a CM12 device to see if there was an APK I could sideload, but didn't see anything that was obvious from its name. Is this something I can add to Fire OS, or is it functionality that's core to the OS that can't be added via APK?
Thanks in advance for any help.
this is the forum for the kindle fire 1st gen.
you will get the best help if you post in the right forum.

Who is Kingroot and what are they doing to my system?

Hi,
after much fruitless time wasted pouring over the various methods on this forum only to find out that most of it relies on old, out of date exploits which are no longer valid, I finally gave up and tried Kingroot on my 7" Kindle Fire HD , running 7.5.1 firmware.
It worked very well. Initial attempt did not establish root but rerunning from the KingRoot menu succeeded. Cool.
However, I have no idea who I have let into my device, what they did and what level of control they still have.
The KingRoot web site is very coy about who they are and what they do. This is not really the way I want to go. It's only trash device for me which I'm messing with to find my way around. But my ultimate aim is regain control of my hardware not to forfeit control.
Does anyone know more about who this outfit is and how this all works?
Thanks.

The counter argument is that as guys on XDA are open and explain the exploits they also get known to the h/w manufacturers who slam the door closed in a future update and all the hard work is lost . Witness the tons of threads here which are now pretty irrelevant and waste everyone's time.

Thanks shadow. I have precisely determined my model Kindle Fire HD 7" running Tate.
I see in that post in terms of firmware links is the Amazon site which of course only offer the latest and greatest. I have downloaded a 600MB bin file and the version matches what I had. Unfortunately this only give instructions for Mac/Win.
That may at least allow me to get rid of KingRoot. Despite it being very effective in rooting the device, the more I see the less I want it hanging around permanently.
After about four days of eye gouging work on this it seems that I need a circa v7.2.1 recovery image that I can load in using fastboot. This will be a signed recovery and thus should not block the device. It is also old enough for the qemu exploit to work for rooting and to allow installing a secondary recovery like TWRP. Do you know where I can find that?
I still have not found how to get into recovery mode on this thing. I found that holding down the vol. down btn during boot displays "safe mode" at the bottom of the screen. I have seen nothing so far written about safe mode.
Vol up btn during boot does not seem to do anything.. Can you help on that?
thanks.
this is the 1st gen forum
you have a 2nd gen Fire

Huh? At the top is says: "This forum is for all of your questions about the Amazon Kindle Fire. " No mention of any model or generation. I don't see any forums for specific models.
If I'm not in the right place could you please either move the post or point me to where it should be., so I can post in the right place?
thanks.

Many thanks. I've bookmarked that so that I can get there without splashing around for half an hour next time.
That seems full of a mix of 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th gen. posts. Looks like I'm not the only one having trouble navigating the site.
