I saw a discussion regarding this, but they kinda just described the functionality (i would assume both can read books lol). My girlfriend was interested in me rooting her kf, but is a skeptic when all the nerdy details get thrown into the mix, not as much of a tinkerer as I am So my question is, are the ui's and look basically the same? If not, are there any like themed ebook reader apps that emulate the ui of the stock kindle reader? I am going to keep looking through the forums as well as Google, and I apologize if I missed a thread that answers my question.
Thanks!
I had the same question before I flashed a custom rom! But the kindle app is basically the same (the choose font feature is the only one you lose). I had no problesm downloading my books from the cloud back to the device. The only problem that I got was with the magazines, they don't look as good as when you have the stock rom.

Hello all,
just wondering what the tangible advantages to rooting the Hero are...
Although theres much talk and joy regarding it, not much concrete information on what it actually allows you to do!
Cheers.
I, for example, needed root for installing HTC_CIME so I can use kanji recognition.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at? Installing apps is as easy as tapping on them in the market, then installing or purchasing them.
I've seen your other questions posted. You most definitely need to check out a website called gtablet for dummies. While you may not be a dummy, you are definitely a very new user.
People will start to get rather irritated at you for asking the most simplest of questions. Basically, asking how to install an app, is as remedial as asking "how do I check e-mail," or "how do I read a clock."
When you get your G-Tablet, I suggest you sit down with it for at least 3 days, on stock firmware (the operating system that it comes with) don't do anything drastic, don't flash (install) a rom (custom firmware). Get used ot how a tablet works, how tapping works, how the settings, menus, and apps work. I'm afraid that if you go into it and start modifying it right away, that you'll end up in a world of trouble. This site, and Slatedroid and very good resources. I suggest that you use them and read as much as you can, even if you don't think that it applies to you. Don't get frustrated if people don't answer your questions here, as most people don't want to waste their own time with something as simple as "where do I download a file that is retired," or "how do I install an app," or "Why aren't my questions getting answered."
they aren't getting answered because the answers are already there for you to see...READ, READ, READ!!!

I like to read so I'll probably go to the MoDaCo rom. None of the ereader apps on the market are as good as the one preinstalled on the kindle.
I like to play games (the games that do work), browse the web and watch YouTube, and my new guilty pleasure, Stumbleupon.

How many hours a day do you normal use it?
I usually use it 5-6 hours. It gets more use than my smartphone or laptop.

I thought the same thing, but I found the one that sucked the least (FB Reader) and then it was a matter of just getting used to it.

I'll have to try it. I'm currently using Aldiko and Mantano ereader. I'll have to try out FBReader and see how good it is.
What's wrong with Adobe's reader? I mean, do these other readers offer something more? Adobe now even has comments and highliting. Would like to know if I am missing out on something.
Things I like to do:
Surf the web, read, write, watch videos and play games (the usual). The unusual: code in touchqode

First of all Welcome to XDA.. and great choice. Note 2 is amazing.
Start slow. If this is not your first android, then start with what apps you already had on your prior phone,
Go thru all the settings, some of them are very cool.
Try the motion sensor help and tutorials.
If this is your first android get used to the android world. Key is to not hurry. and you will learn and get used to things.

hello and welcome to xda !
first of all try read to learn about amazing android features (root, flashing, etc)
if you have any question, ther's Q&A section
and don't forget to search before asking because i bet that all your questions had been asked before :fingers-crossed:
Hi there and welcome. To add on to what the other guys said, the best way to go is to just look through all the menus and get familiar with where the various settings and options are and what they do.
Look up some blogs or posts that go over the basics of android and customisation. For example alternative home screens like apex launcher and Nova launcher are quite popular and really great if you want to make your home screen really stand out.
Also look into alternative keyboards if you find that the stock keuboard doesn't suit you to well. Keyboards like swift key and thumb keyboard are quite popular.
And as someone else already mentioned, going through the q&a section is a good way to learn about any issues and questions others have already asked.
Have fun

Just get used to it. Don't rush. I also bought this great gadget a few weeks ago. If you are an avid reader download Kindle, Kobo, Aldiko Premium, or UB Reader and enjoy thousands of books. Look which browser suits you best. Download Opera Mobile, truly great browser. Download Polaris Office from Samsung Apps or get Quickoffice Pro or Kingsoft Office from Google Play. Get app Note Everything, looks like a must have app.
Hi Guys, very new to the MOD scene. Fed up with the amazon OS as it is so limiting. I want to have open most up to date Android that is highly tested and reliable (available for my device). The HD 6 is currently on Fire OS 4.5.5.1
I've actually read many posts / how to's on this forum, but some are conflicting and others are either incomplete or very convoluted. Can someone guide me to instructions or you tube video that they recommend? I'd really like to hear from people who have actually modded the tablet (or similar tablet) to the one I own and has experienced success.
