Ativ SE - Windows 10 Mobile - Windows Insider working without hacks! - Windows 10 Mobile

I was informed I should also post this here as I made a post on Reddit about this find and wanted to share it with others. I have an Ativ SE and we all know as of recently it was not able to get Windows 10 Mobile via Inside without registry hacks to fingerprint the phone as the Lumia Icon.
During my endeavors I was able to get W10M on the phone and up until recently had held off doing a factory reset as the original thread states not to without losing core apps. Well after the .71 update I had to factory reset the phone but it did not lose any core apps. So that was a plus however I did lose my registry hacks *expected* obviously. I tried to re add this via the Root registry tool but never had any luck however something happened today that really made me happy. I received an update for the Insider app and had the option to select "Production" as an option. After selecting I was immediately given the option for .107 update.
This is not an option apparently if you are already on 8.1 however so I believe you must be on W10M. This has been tested to work even after factory resets just resign up as normal.

On a side note. I am not 100% positive if you need developer mode enabled however if the option is not there enable it.

I don't think it's possible to get wm10 without OEM update. Aaaaand I don't think SE will get wm10 from 8.1 via Insider. It looks like "Production" ring is available on any wm10 phone.
IMHO

It may be an option on any phone for what its worth after the factory reset you lose your registry hacks that gets you in the fast ring regardless. So having production ring available is nice, it means factory resetting the phone is no longer an issue.

This is true, but it does open some things up. If we could get our hands on an 8.1 rom (opposed to the 8.0 gdr3 that's available for this phone), a rom could be made for users to easily upgrade to 10. I'm looking into a solution with your tools. For example, you can make another version of your 8.1.1 rom for the Ativ S that has DeviceTargetingInfo configured as a Lumia, then the user only needs to install Windows Insider to update to 10, hard reset, install Windows Insider and set it for Production. This way, users can get to wm10 without needing to interop unlock.

You can also now get the 8.1 -> 10 upgrade without needing to hard reset. Just make the mods to change the mfg/model name in the registry and let things update as normal. I did this myself. The bonus here is that my registry edits were preserved through the update, so my wireless tethering support stayed.

Samsung Focus (Omnia?) update from 7390 (No-Do) to Mango RTM (7720) unlocked

This post is for those who have had issues with their Focus devices with 1) the Diagnostics App not updating to v 1xxx, 2) the GPRS Manager crashing and wanting to stay unlocked when updating to Mango
**Make sure you are UNLOCKED already and on NoDo**
1. Grab the following tools
Unlock.xml XAP - Here
WP7 Root Tools 0.5 alpha - Here
Samsung Tools - Here
2. Deploy all 3 XAPs to your phone
3. Open WP7 Root Tools
Swipe to the right in order to access the "Explorer" file system view.
Press the (+) at the bottom to create a folder in the root
make the folder name "provxml" and press Done
check and make sure that this folder is created in the root
4. Copy the unlock.xml to the provxml folder
use instructions from the unlock XML Xap link I've posted above.
5. Follow Mango Update Instructions
Use this forum page here as reference. Go through all steps up to step 17 and note the change below. Continue with the rest. Important!
Make a change to instruction step 17 on that page. Open up the ISVTo7720.bat file and remove all entries that have 7661 in it. For example Diff-7.10.7661.8-7.10.7720.68-armv7-Retail-Microsoft.pks.cab.
Save the file and then run the bat
When complete, you will be updated to Mango (YAY).
Here's the best thing.. Samsung Update appears in Zune. After installing the Samsung Update, dial ##634# to run Diagnosis. If you already have run this before, uninstall the Diagnosis app and dial ##634# again to update it.
Diagnosis version should FINALLY be v1122
After you're in the Diagnosis app, dial *#9908* EDIT: *#9908# to open the GPRS Manager. You should see an "unlock" entry from the drop-down menu.
Select the unlock.xml and press Save. It should give a message about Loading the GPRS profile. Let it sit for a few seconds then press done.
See if you can open Samsung Tools afterwards. If you can, then you are unlocked. WP7 Root Tools will NOT open in Mango.
^^ Those were the steps I've used to get my Mango unlocked. Hopefully this is of some use to everyone.
YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE DATA AND MMS ISSUES. RUN SAMSUNG TOOLS AND CHECKMARK THE THIRD CHECKMARK TO HAVE THE DATA SETTINGS RE-CONFIGURED AFTER IT REBOOTS.
thanks for the guide.
i followed it a bit different.
after restoring my pre-mango backup i started the upgrade again.
placed the files in the correct directory and then upgraded to 7712.
There i noticed i did not have jailbreak so i ran the diag app.
(I'm using diagnostic v0103 btw)
It unlocked perfectly after which i continued upgrading to mango
In mango it was again locked so i did the diagnostic procedure again and i'm now happily unlocked.
thanks for the pointers
just a note;
unlock works...however...i'm unable to set my mobile data (3G).
any1 any pointers as how to configure this?

No samsung update for me ....
Small update, have my internet connection fixed.
Had to add a custom, blank APN with the name "internet" After this the 3G connection came online again
Same as adityaksharma no Samsung update though
(Using Omnia 7)
No Samsung Update? That's weird. I DID see that though, my friend has a Focus and I used him as a guinea pig for this process and noted every failure I went through and he never got the Samsung Update after Nodo. As a further note, I went all the way back to Nodo with the ATT update for Samsung from Mango Beta 2 then re-applied the steps I made in the guide. As for the 3G connection issue, if you were able to unlock, use the Samsung Tools program and checkmark the Run ADC option. That will reboot your phone then re-run the auto data connection setup and will configure Data and MMS automatically.
If you don't get a Samsung Update package, I think that's fine also. I tried this on another person's samsung and he didn't get the Samsung Update. As long as your Diagnostics version allows for you to see the update in the GPRS Connection part, you should be fine.
my diagnosis version is 0103 but i was able to open the unlock file with it.
ADC method did not work for me...adding a blank APN did work.
Everything works now so i'm happy

I'm hearing a lot of people having no Samsung update. Even after me downgrading back to NoDo multiple times, I get the Samsung update in the zune client right after mango rtm is installed. Do you recall if your MobileOperator was set correctly? I am running a Focus on AT&T. I did mess up before and still had my MobileOperator set to 000-88 so I had to change it back to ATT-US. I would check that out. I followed the steps that i listed and was able to update my diagnosis version. It was the Samsung update that enabled my diagnosis app to update. Mine was still at 929 even at mango.
Yeah, I think the diagnosis app not updating issue is because of the carrier (I´m not sure what have to be the correct carrier conf to have the option of updating it). If I have time, I will restore the backup, try to update the diagnosis there, and then, make the whole process again.
Thanks once again

Do me a favor. Restore back to Nodo and deploy this DiagnosisApp.xap which is v1122. I copied from my device.
I´ve restored to Nodo and deployed your xap succesfully, but it doesn´t start. It shows an error about license on launching. I think this xap is unique per device, and is not shareable.
I´m trying to unninstall de diagnosis and launch it again, but nothing updates here.
I´m trying another method. If it works, I will tell you.
Thanks
I finally gain to update my diagnosis app. Posting my used method here for other people having the same issue:
Debrand the phone
Unninstall diagnosis
Reboot phone (this was very important for my case, without this, nothing changes :S)
When the phone is bootting (still connected to PC with Zune open) an update for 7392 appears (allthought I tested Mango beta 2 release and other things, I was never able to see this update on my device :S)
Update to 7392 (diagnosis haven´t still changed)
After updating, another update appears: Samsung security update. Update to it (I had an error on the first try, but it worked perfect in the second one)
After updating to this (like the other one, I had never seen this update before in my Zune/device till now), launched diagnosis (##634#) and finally it was there: diagnosis 0103
Now I making the whole process to update to Mango again.
Hope this time everything goes fine.
Once again, sorry for my bad english.

Yes, THAT's the Samsung Update I was talking about. I guess under some conditions, users get one of the Samsung Updates. The one I got updated me to v1122, but from what I hear provxml works on anything higher than v929.
First time flashing a ROM on WP7...By unlocked, do you mean with the Chevron tool? That's what I have.
What will the difference be between this Mango ROM as opposed to waiting for the official AT&T Mango? Pardon my ignorance, as stated above this is my first WP7 ROM. I flashed many WinMo roms back in the day but this is all new.
Does this process work with the official release?

yes. Do steps 1-4 when on NoDO or anything less than 7712. Start from the 5th bullet point on step 5 once updated to official mango. Once those steps have been followed, download WP7 Root Tools 0.7. It supports mango and will allow you to have full registry and file system access. Also if you need custom ringtones, click on the link under my signature and download my app =)

Do you remember me about a month ago trying to update the diagnosis app?
I got it, yeah, but yesterday night, I connected the phone to Zune and a new Samsung update appeared.
I updates the phone, and today, I´ve unninstalled the diagnosis app and opened it again.
Now, my version is ve.0628. Does anyone know what does this new version offer or do?

Installed Mango, Lost 3G service (Verizon wireless)

I installed Mango today from Zune (official) and now I lost 3G service...
I'm on a HTC Trophy with Verizon wireless. When it first loaded it ran connection setup.
As a result, some features on the phone do not work now, like voice text and a few other things.
Any idea ?
Me too. I was just about to post this same thing until I searched and saw your topic. I uninstalled the HTC connection setup and re-installed it. Now it says no carrier with that name found in the database. I'm boned. I was considering a hard reset but I don't know what else to do.
have the same trouble. Cannot connect to 3g network with my samsung focus (used in Telcel). Just when i add a APN config, i can reach 3g connection but before Mango, i don't need that config.
---------- Post added at 03:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 PM ----------
the info about the connections showed in diagnosis window are different now. After Mango, i can view all the default connections of my phone. Now there isn't connections config. What do you see in your phone? Try this code *#9920# en diagnosis app.
I don't have the samsung diag app and I don't know the HTC equivalent.
A thought occurs though. Did we all upgrade from the leaked RTM? I sure did and I wonder if that's a potential issue. My options for fixing this is are:
1. Hard reset
2. Restore to NoDo. Upgrade through
3. Warranty replacement
Unless I get some suggestions...Please
Hard reset FTW. Major pain to recover from though...

I know the setup of emails, etc is a pain, but using the new device manager on live.com is AMAAAAAZZZING. It displays a list of your purchased items, and by clicking a button, sends it to reinstall on your phone in the background. You can at least continue to set the phone up and not worry about redownloading all the programs - it'll do it for you.
Lost 3G here as well after mango update. I was also not on the stock NODO but whatever the last leaked update was that could be installed through Zune.
I did an official update from 7004 and all was fine, the rolled back to use the "unlock.xml" in Diagnostics GPRS and then back to Mango and now it's screwed (Omnia 7).
Help greatly appreciated

Odd, my trophy and my sisters updated without a hitch. Well mine restarted like 10 times on step 8 of 10 or whatever. But all is running well.
I restore the OS to te last backup and all works fine. Now i will try to update again to Mango.
ok, after some test, i found how to fix this for samsung focus devices: After upgrading to Mango and after load unlock file in gprs manager, just uncheck the ADC flag in samsung tools app, reboot the phone, and enable the flag again. Reboot the phone and all works again. My cel now is full unlocked and have mms and 3g service.
Reading WPCentral and VZW forums, the HTC Connection Setup does not work on the VZW Trophy. If you have it installed when you upgrade it tries to run and causes lose of 3G/Data.
You have to roll back, uninstall Connection Setup, and then upgrade. This keeps data alive. OR, do a hard reset and start over.
But, if you install the Connection Setup after upgrading it will not find the carrier and run (doesn't appear to do anything so data stays on). However, trying to unlock/inter-op unlock with a provxml file in the windows directory is not working so you are not able to run sideloaded apps.
I have another post in QA about the HTC Connection not working on the VZW Trophy and these other issues verify it doesn't. I had the app uninstalled before updating as I didn't want my provxml file being removed so luckily ended up with data still working. But, this screws up trying to pass interop-unlock to final Mango on the VZW Trophy.
My hope right now is HTC sends an update to allow it to run and get my provisioning into the registry OR heathcliff figures out how to do inter-op unlock on HTCs...
I had the HTC connection setup application installed prior to updating, and saw it automatically tried finding my network after booting into mango. I would like to rollback and uninstall this however it doesn't look like zune ever made a backup? During the update it said it was making a backup, but the only file I see is a small xml file in the backup location?
I really did not want to do a full reset and lose all my application data.
You can always try the Verizon Trophy Mango ROM is all else fails.

[XAP] Internet Sharing + Interop Unlock all-in-one for Samsung Phones

As long as your device is unlocked in some way (Developer/Chevron/Other) you can get internet sharing on your Samsung phone.
IMPORTANT: If you updated to 8107 via Zune you may have also updated your phones firmware. If this is the case you will not be able to use this hack. I would suggest rolling back to 7720/7740 and updating via CAB Sender using the cabs in Heathcliff74's thread.
1.) First install the WP Dev Tools and unlock your Samsung phone.
2.) Use Microsoft's Application Deployment Tool to send THIS (Update 8107 use THIS) to your phone. Don't run it, delete after it has been deployed.
3.) Install the Diagnosis app by typing ##634# on the phone keypad.
4.) After the Diagnosis app starts type *#9908# and select 'System Tweaks' press 'Save' then 'Close' and RESTART your phone.
5.) Your phone now has internet sharing and as a bonus is interop unlocked!
6.) (optional) Press the 'thanks' button at the bottom of this post if it worked for you.
PS: You need to have a recent mango firmware on your phone or your diagnosis app and drivers will not be new enough to work.
EDIT: I built the file depoyer using the tools provided by Heathcliff74 so many thanks to him! Also, ADC is built in to this as well so no need to worry about that. I also upped the max number of connections from 3 to 5 devices.
NOTE: If you have internet sharing turned on (active hotspot) you will not be able to deploy XAP's untill it is turned off. Also, as with any xap, you need to have your screen unlocked to deploy this to your phone.
SECOND NOTE: If you can't get any XAP's to deploy try turning ICS on then off again, it may correct some errors.

Yes this works on the Focus S. You will have to download the wireless manager from the samsung section of the marketplace so you can get your 4G back after doing the interop unlock.

I found the fix for the 8107 update, the following registry tweak needs to be made:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\ICS]
"UserProcGroup"=dword:32
Set the "UserProcGroup" value from "32" to "5" will make IS work fine. Don't forget to reboot your phone.

It looks like I might have found a solution to my problem. I went back and reinstalled the xap for this hack which did create the missing registry entries. However I was still having the data problem. So I starting thinking about how my phone is different from most of the people using this hack and thought to turn off sim security. That seems to have done the trick. I am guessing that with sim security turned on ADC is not doing what its supposed to because the sim card is locked until the OS has fully booted and I put in my pin to unlock it. Since I really dont know what ADC does this is just a guess however I have only had a few minor data issues since turning sim security off. Anyone else out there having data issues should give this a try and let us know if it helps out.

If your device is already interop unlocked it will stay that way and no harm will come to you
Awesome, it worked perfectly!
Just wanted to update that one of the forum members found that if one has kept Internet Sharing On and try to deploy XAP file it fails. Read it here
One should turn it off and then deploy XAP files.

You actually don't have the newest firmware. After the Mango update you should get one more update that is a Samsung update for your drivers and it also includes a new diagnosis app. If you don't get this update notification when you connect to Zune you can try sending THIS update package to your phone to get the newest diagnosis app but this is at your own risk and I don't know that internet sharing will work without the newest Samsung driver update.
lol, i did actually have the new firmware, what actually happen, the mango update alone with the new samsung drivers didnt update my old diagnostic app, so all I had to do is uninstall the old diagnostic from my phone, then re type in the ##634# code to reload it and bam Diagnostic ver .0103 was now there. Your suggested helped me figured that out, thanks again.. It now works
any idea whether the new "extra settings" on the Smasung Omnia can be found this way , its gotta be somewhere close , doesnt have to actually even be on the older phones , but I assume with the new firmware it was added , I dont know if the firmware is the same for the newer devices , Samsung deliberately deleted us 1st generation phone users from the newer software for some reason , others have proven its capable of using it
Two things you should know:
- deploying xaps just works if the screen is unlocked!
- internet doesn work on the phone after the xap has been deployed - but there is a solution:
---
I saw "internet connection sharing" in the settings but couldn't enable it because my phone didn't have a internet connection itself.
So don't forget you have to repair your internet settings on the phone! Samsung's official "Netzprofil" app ("network profiles" in english?) did the job for me. I changed to an other operator, afterwards changed again to the correct one and rebooted the phone...

Sorry - didn't work for me. After clicking "save" i waited another 10 seconds, clicked "Exit", closed (back button) the diagnosis app and rebooted the phone.
Rebooting means that i switched it off and/but it turned on again automatically because I didn't remove the USB cable...
The screen unlocking hint was just to help unexperienced users (like me). The App Deployment tool just gives an error number if you forget to unlock...
I don't think my post was completely senseless (thinking of users being new to the topic) but...sry for the noise

Can this save you from having to pay extra for Internet sharing if you purchased a Focus S? Or will you still have to call and have it provisioned through att? Thanks.

Yes, if you use this it will get rid of the message that pops up telling you you need a new plan for it. I just tried it on my Focus S. However I would be cautious though, I used to tether my Focus all the time and AT&T caught on and now if I tether at all again they will automatically switch me to a more expensive 4GB tethering plan from my unlimited plan.
And thank you OP, I interop-unlocked my Focus S and it has been a pain getting getting my AT&T settings configured again. I tried all the methods from the interop-unlock guide, with the exception of SIM unlocking my phone and using the Network Profiler app, and none of them would work. I also tried editing the APN but that doesn't give you options for MMS. This xap was the only way I was able to edit RunADC successfully and now everything is perfect. Thanks a lot!

I also tried editing the APN but that doesn't give you options for MMS. This xap was the only way I was able to edit RunADC successfully and now everything is perfect. Thanks a lot!

OK, thanks much for that. Maybe I'll try it. It's for my brother's phone, so not sure how much tinkering he's willing to put up with.
Revert Back
Is there a way to revert this ? I am getting lot of Inertop Exception with many other apps.

Install old Skype on Windows 10 phone?

Hi, guys! Do you know if it is possible to install the old Skype app for Windows Phone 8.1 on a Windows 10 phone instead of Skype Preview? I hope there is a way to do it, as Skype Preview is cr*p right now. It makes more problems now than few months ago. Since one month ago it has issues with video calls, and since less than a week it has issues with audio too.
I have tried to usual Skype from here, but it would always give my this error message.
Can't install app
There's a problem with this app. Check the package, or contact there person who gave it to you for help.

Thank you in advance!
It won't connect to the serwer anyway
Are you sure about that? Because my father still has Skype on his Windows Phone 8.1 phone, and it works really well for him. Maybe some older version won't connect right now, but there latest version should work fine. The version for which I have found the xap file is 2.32.0.48. This entry entry at appx4fun was updated in December 14, 2016.
I too expected the old Skype to stop working by now, but it's still alive and kicking, while I'm seeing issue with the Skype Preview app on daily basis.

I am not sure that is why I did told it to you
I still think that it should be possible to make the old Skype work on w10m. Maybe it's going to be shut down soon, maybe it's going to work only few more weeks, or perhaps even less, but even that would be better than having to deal with that buggy hell of Skype Preview app...

sure, waste more time
I understand you point of view, but if somebody knows how to do this, or if somebody has the correct .xap file, I don't see how would that be a waste of time. With the right file I'm asking for it would be done in few minutes.
Please, if there is somebody who can tell something helpful, please do. Of course, an answer like "that can't be fine because of that and that" would be useful too. Only as far as I can see, djtonka doesn't know whether this can be done or not.

1 - Version 2.32.0.48 is the last for WP8.1.
2 - I have no issue to deploy Skype 2.32.0.48 on my 950XL.
3 - Your phone is interrop unlock because xap use ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES.
Thank you for your reply! So what I need to do is to get the latest InteropTool, install it on my phone, and then within the InteropTool which will show up in the Settings to enable installing apps from xap files? And then it should work?

not needed, just interop unlock cap enabled
And for that I'm gonna have to download Application Deployment tool? Asking just in case, to know if there is a quicker way.
Thank you very much for helping.

Oh, and can you tell me his to do it? I tried it with interop Tools, but that would only work for x5x devices.

Did you ever deployed xap from PC to phone?
No, I have never done that. By the way, I have noticed that you have replied to me in the thread vcREG: lumia reg editor + interop unlock. Now Supports X50 device interop unlock too, so I will keep the discussion there from now on.

Could you share with me the xap file for Skype which you have used? Just in case if there's something wrong with mine, which was downloaded from appx4fun.

So it really always that I need to use another xap file. As dxdy suggested in another thread, it could be that this xap file is encrypted, and that I need a patched xap file.
Does anybody hear have a patched Skype xap?

Microsoft Skype_v2.32.0.48.xap
Thank you very much for this xap file. I have tried to install the old Skype on the phone right away, but Skype haven't shown up in the app list. I just copied the xap file to the SD card, and tapped on it, and chose the option to install the app. I haven't seen any error message this time though. I tried it several times, after restarts, and with different settings in Interop Tools. Still not showing up.
I have also tried to do this with Skype Preview being uninstalled. How about you, do you have both version of Skype on your Lumia 950, or you had to choose between those two? Or you chose not to use Skype Preview after making the old Skype work.
Could that be that I the phone hasn't been interop unlocked yet?
Again, thanks you very much, guys, for helping!

no, you must deploy XAP file from PC to phone (phone must connected via USB)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71269427&postcount=264
use tool from step 4
And in that case interop unlock wouldn't be necessary? (I mean hypothetically.)
Thanks, I will look into that tomorrow evening, or the day after. I won't be able to try it sooner.

rollback from Creator's Update on w10m ?

Hi I'm using the HP Elite x3 how can I roll the phone back to a build before creators update, and leave it there? I.e. Stop updates.
Thanks

Flash another w10m version, or use WDRT to get the version your device came by factory(should be 14393 or so) and then disable the service wuauserv(windows updates).
14393.1066 and CU are the best builds in my opinion... If you are having problems with CU, just make a hard reset which will allow you to delete some sysapps at start(to do this enter the store and quicly disable automatic app updates, if you don't disable it, it will update some apps that will block the privilege to uninstall them i.e. outlook) or use interop tools to delete what you don't want. Making the hard reset will leave your device with a fresh CU.

Hi @xxJMarian thanks for the tip, this worked . I used WDRT and got back to the build I want, 10.0.14393.953, this was before CU which took away app corner and social integration. Now I have the build I want and DO NOT want CU.
My phone is on airplane mode until I figure out how to prevent it from updating again:
1. I went into the store and turned off auto updates of apps
2. there is no "phone update" option in background tasks for this build...
what should I do next? I would be happy with the x3 for another year if it doesn't update; willing to miss out on patches and security maintenance.

Get interop tools, do all the proper unlocking and disable the service wuausrv using the registry to stop updates. This will also affect the store, since it uses the windows update service aswell. Once you disable the service it won't search for system updates nor apps. What you can try to do is setting it to manual instead of disabling it so it only triggers when you search for updates instead of automatic. The service registry location is HLKM -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services
