No sms when connected to 4g - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an h815 totally stock on metro pcs. It always worked fine until about a week ago when I received the v10f update and since then I can not receive text or mms when connected to 4g. If 4g is enabled all my texts come through while on a call or if service drops to H for whatever other reason. Disabling 4g has been my temporary fix which is fine but I really want my 4g back. Yesterday I received another update (v20c) which I was hoping would fix the problem but it did not. Countless hours of searching led me to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340464&page=9 which has been helpful in understanding what I believe may be the same problem, however that's for a different phone so I'm unsure if everything stated there would apply to me. Poking around the hidden menu I found "sms preferred set" with options of cs preferred and ps preferred, selecting either one returns a message of "set GW domain cs (or ps depending which one I hit) preferred success F!!" However regardless of what I choose the problem remains unchanged. Anyone have the same problem or any insight about what I can do to fix this?

The answering modem has disconnected. Help please!

Hey, so the other day my phone stopped getting reception of any kind. No phone calls or data connection, I just have the No Service symbol in the task bar. I have taken my phone all around the city, and it still says no service. It has been like this for a couple days now, so I doubt that T-Mobile is having a massive outage in my area (Pittsburgh). Does anyone know anything I could do? I've tried many soft resets, a couple hard resets, flashing different ROMs, and flashing different radios. I also checked my payment info and I'm not late for a payment or anything. So any help?
Also, the error reads "Dialed: The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings." I looked around in settings and I wouldn't know what to change.
I had the same problem with ATT, it turns out some how I had no data settings on my account, so the network couldnt talk to my device, called tech support, they asked for my IMEI number, added me back, problem disappeared. every 3 months the networks send a request for phones to answer back at times the main frame then checks the IMEI numbers against whats on your account, if they dont match the data part can be dropped which stops the phones from communicating with the network. In my case my phone worked fine, but any txt msgs sent or pix msgs would always come back with that error, or after every hangup of a call.
Ok thanks. I'll try calling them later today

Evo 4G Always Digital Roaming and Slow Data (Help?)

Precursor: I recently purchased an EVO 4G online and had it shipped up here to Canada and after some phone calls/fiddling I managed to get it onto the Telus network. I can make and receive calls and send/receive sms with no difficulties. Data seems to be working (I get the 3g icon with up and down arrows and can surf the net), and mms seem to be sending.
Which brings me to the issues at hand:
1) My 3G speeds are super weak (between 100kbit and 140kbit down and 100-600kbit up). If I stand in the same place and use my Touch Pro 2 (they both show the same number of bars) I get 800-900kbit/sec.
2) My EVO 4g -ALWAYS- says "Digital Roaming". I've updated the PRL with the latest Telus one (off the internet) as well as the one off my Touch Pro 2 but see no difference. I don't incur any roaming charges, but the phone always thinks it's roaming.
3) Last but not least, I'll often get a pop-up that says Data Call Failure Error Code 67. Sometimes I'll go for hours without seeing it, and sometimes it'll pop up every 5 minutes.
Any input/insight is welcome!
-Xan
P.S. If you want tips on how to get your EVO onto Telus, drop me a PM.
I will love to have feedback, as I get the "data fail" error often while roaming...
Update: It seems that when I force my phone to use only EVDO, the Data Call Failure Error Code 67 goes away. Perhaps related?
Just following up on my own thread: It seems the Error 67 is because my 1x data login details are incorrect (a side effect of the sprint radio).
Still wondering on the other questions, anyone?
Xan, how did you get HTC Evo to work on Telus? I'm almost at the point of returning this one that I got from Texas. I have tried for 24hours to no avail.
Please help!!

I just had the same issue. Luckily I downloaded an app off the market called 2g 3g switchand it resolve several issues I had including yours. There are three options one of them is the cdma NAM switch in which you could select NAM 1, another option is to leave in automatic, and third if you have any 2g and 3g switching issues you can select hybrid. Note after switching wait probably 5 minutes and sometimes try again, also you may have to reset.

[Q] [SOLVED] T-Mobile G2, no service anywhere, error while searching for networks

I've been struggling with a problem that I just solved in a stupid way so I'm posting to help other googlers.
As I was using my phone recently, I lost service like I had gone into an area devoid of towers, but service never came back. I verified that another TMobile phone (similar plan) found towers and service just fine. I tried everything I could think of from upgrading Cyanogenmod and the radio to reverting to the stock firmware. No matter what I did, the phone would not get signal. When I went to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network operators I would simply get "Error while searching for networks".
It turns out that the SIM card had seen the end of its days. I went to the TMobile store and had the SIM card switched out for a new one (free) and everything worked again.
The explanation I was given was that old "legacy" SIM cards sometimes will just stop allowing you to connect to the towers with no other symptoms.
TL;DR: If your TMobile (maybe other carriers too) phone isn't connecting to the towers anymore, don't panic. You probably need a new SIM card and you can probably get one for free.
Seeing the exact same problem in the last few days
Found your post by googling the error message - I've got the exact same situation on my G2, the behavior started this last weekend. The phone sometimes connects but is very, very inconsistent. I'm missing almost all text messages, or getting them up to a day late. I guess it's off to a t-mo store for a new SIM card if this doesn't stop. Funny thing is this phone was purchased with a (supposedly) new SIM card - hard to call it "legacy".
Thank you, I just stopped getting service today randomly and nothing I did could get it back. I went in to panic mode and was flashing and wiping and everything I could think of then I saw this post. I didn't think it could work but sure enough it did.
way to be....i learned my fact for the day.
mine just bit the dust.
called t-mobile and they suggested a new SIM as well.
ah well
I had the same issue and after doing tons of troubleshooting i seen that there was a space right under the keyboard that was fully flush with the phone. I lightly pressed until both sides snapped back into place and full service returned. So if you have this issue check to see if there are any spaces open and snap it closed.

Mine has been doing this sporadically, it comes and goes and sometimes I cannot get it to find a service provider. I have to keep doing it over and over and over. Sometimes I have to set phone down and come back in a few minutes to do it again and it finally shows a provider.
The question I have is if you take your phone into Tmobile store to have sim. card replaced do you have to revert phone back to stock G2? Will they say something to you if you are rooted and running CM?
This problem happened to me too and a SIM swap fixed it. They don't check if you are rooted- they might ask you to reboot and change some settings to rule out the obvious stuff like airplane mode, correct carrier, etc.
Maybe not same issue, but also have a soultion for similar issue on G2X
Maybe I didn't have the exact same issue, but I had the exact same symptoms, so throwing my solution up here for other Googlers trying to troubleshoot this as well...
I actually have a G2X, went to Canada where I disabled roaming data and used the t-Mobile wifi calling stuff primarily...
When I got back home to the USA, I couldn't get a signal, but I also didn't have the little x next to the icon... When I went into my settings, I couldn't seem to get the "Use 2G Network" setting to stay off, and of course I couldn't make calls or anything over the mobile network...
So I figured I just needed to force the phone to register on the local network, maybe all the roaming got it mixed up or something, but when I went to the "Network operators" setting, I couldn't "Search Networks" and "Select Automatically" didn't work either, I kept seeing the error "Error while searching for networks".... spent some time playing with libril.so and friends, but it made no difference.
Anyway, long story short, it turns out that there's a setting in the T-Mobile "Wifi Calling" app under "Connection preferences", if you select "Wifi Only", it applies to your setting all the time, even when wifi is disabled, disconnected, and even if the "Wifi Calling" app is disabled too !! So just change that setting back to something else when you're done requiring that behavior and everything will work again, Yay!

I can verify that this is the solution that works. I have the LG G2 w/ T-Mobile. I hadn't had any problems until today. Stumbled upon this thread after the T-Mobile chat support couldn't help me. Went to System Settings and turned wifi calling off completely. Back in business.

A few questions about the GNex - Network, Mail etc.,

Hi Guys,
So, I've been using the GNex for about a month. I moved to this phone from a Moto Atrix and here is what I have noticed and have looked around but didn't see any good answers to these questions I am having. Hopefully I get some answers here.
Device info:
GNex GSM version on ATT.
Running JB 4.1.1 Stock with Trinity Kernel (rooted and bootloader unlocked).
Issue #1: I get really bad reception at work. But, when I leave the building, my phone doesn't automaticaly connect back to the network. Sometimes, if I don't check my phone, it's been like that all night long until the next day when I have tried to make a call and it said "No Network Available" and I have to either reboot or toggle airplane mode to get back on the network. Am I missing something? In my past experience with other devices, they try to automatically connect back to the network when they loose connectivity. Also, if I get in an elevator during a call and the call gets dropped due to network unavailability, it doesn't connect back to the network and I have to toggle airplane mode. Has anyone else had this issue?
Issue#2: This is with the stock mail app. Specifically the search in this mail app. No matter what, it always returns zero results. Has anyone had this issue with the Mail App? If I use the Gmail app, it works fine. That's what I am using now, but am curious as to what I may be missing that make it not return any search results in the stock mail app.
Q3: Speed Dial: How do you set speed dial on the dialer? Is it even supported?
thanks in advance,
vG

it could be to do with your radio, what version is it? baseband version in about phone. im no expert but when i flashed a jellybean rom i had to update my radio afterwards cause my signal was dropping alot. i also had the same problem later on but that was down to my network operator. before i realised it was them i googled my problem and a few forums suggested that my sim card was goosed. so maybe check those three possibilities? i cant help with the other two issues unfortunately but good luck sorting it out!

Duplicate Text Messaging Issue?

I've had my phone for just over a month now, and I got a text from T-mobile saying that my credit card was charged and my account is good for another month, blah blah blah... However, I've received this message at least 40 times since the plan renewed on Friday the 11th.
I've done some searching around and found this thread on the Tmobile forums:
https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/86838?start=0&tstart=0
It sounds like Tmobile support will give the standard "tun off your phone, take out the battery, etc" and "do a factory restore" responses, that apparently don't fix the problem. Others have posted that it may be a Wifi-calling issue, but turning off Wifi/Wifi-calling only helps temporarily.
So I'm wondering if anyone here has had the issue and knows a solution that works. I'm on stock, unrooted and at he latest software update, 20e.
Thanks!

I had this problem with TMO a few months ago. Forums seemed to indicate that calling support might help, but I just waited it out and it fixed itself in a few days. Since then, I've only seen one duplicate message.

Thanks for the quick response. So do you use Wifi Calling a lot by chance? Were the dupes happening when you were on Wifi?
Some have theorized that it's caused because there isn't a "received" signal being sent back to the sender when on wifi calling, so the messages get sent again and again until that signal is received. And that turning off Wifi (or Wifi Calling) for a while will let this signal go through.
I haven't had a chance to try this, as I get very poor reception at both home and work, so Wifi Calling is a necessity.
I'm going to answer my own question since I think I've figured things out, although I don't really have a solution for my problems...
Basically, whenever I use Wifi Calling, then go off of Wifi, I get no voice service even though I have plenty of bars of signal and can use the data connection. This means I can't make/receive calls or send/receive texts. There's no 100% method that fixes this issue, sometimes I can just toggle the Data connection on and off, other times I have to reboot the phone.
Since I've had Wifi Calling on for the last week or so, I haven't gotten out on T-mobiles voice network. And for whatever reason as I stated above, texts coming in on Wifi Calling will continue to come in as duplicates because the sender isn't getting a "received" signal back. (This is still just a theory, but I've sort of proven it.) Yesterday I turned of Wifi Calling, restarted my phone and left Wifi Calling off. I got one more copy of the text message I had already received 50 times or so, and that was it, no more dupes.
So my main issue is still that my phone doesn't switch back to T-mobile's network fully after being on Wifi Calling. If it did so, the duplicate texts wouldn't be as much of an issue because they'd go away once I was on the mobile network.
TLDR:
It seems that Wifi Calling is stopping my phone from switching back to the Tmobile network when I'm out of range of wifi, and the duplicate texts are caused by Wifi Calling.
If anyone has a solution to this issue, please let me know. Thanks!
